    Empecemos claro: no existen juegos actuales de 10 y Zelda: Breath of the Wild, como todos sus contemporáneos, no es un juego de 10.

    A pesar de sentirse fresco, espectacular e inmenso, hay algo en la suma de sus partes que no termina de cuajar. Quizá sea su narrativa que, pese al cambio de esquema de lo lineal al descubrimiento segmentado, nos deja con graves huecos argumentales. Los    Empecemos claro: no existen juegos actuales de 10 y Zelda: Breath of the Wild, como todos sus contemporáneos, no es un juego de 10.

    A pesar de sentirse fresco, espectacular e inmenso, hay algo en la suma de sus partes que no termina de cuajar. Quizá sea su narrativa que, pese al cambio de esquema de lo lineal al descubrimiento segmentado, nos deja con graves huecos argumentales. Los nipones pudieron haber creado la experiencia más redonda de toda la saga, pero desperdiciaron una oportunidad de oro y nos entregan una historia cumplidora pero nada espectacular. De hecho y pese a todas las referencias y easter eggs, me atrevo a decir que es uno de los episodios más ambiguos en este apartado. Toda una pena pues el juego cuenta con algunos de los personajes más carismáticos y mejor diseñados de toda la serie (menos Zelda que ni por asomo es tan encantadora como la de Skyward Sword).

    El mayor mérito del juego es sin duda la libertad que ofrece al jugador. Es este terreno Breath of the Wild es impecable. La opción de poder hacer casi lo que queramos desde el principio no tiene parangón alguno en la industria (al menos en un juego de aventura con ambiciones similares a este Zelda), aunque los más nostálgicos de la fórmula Ocarina of Time echarán de menos los artefactos que conseguíamos en cada calabozo. Pese a esta sensación de querer más cachivaches, debo admitir que los que ofrece el juego son útiles en casi toda la aventura, a diferencia de anteriores entregas donde sólo se requerían en momentos específicos. Estas mecánicas incentivan la experimentación y el ingenio del jugador. Al principio, el sistema de armas y escudos que se desgastan y rompen podría molestar a más de uno, no obstante, el sentimiento de urgencia se ve superado por un plano de estrategia y versatilidad al jugar, dada la aleatoriedad y dificultad de algunas situaciones,

    Visualmente es un juego hermoso. A pesar de las limitaciones técnicas de la Wii U, Nintendo hizo valer cada día esperado desde aquel ya lejano anuncio en el E3 2014. Es un producto hecho con mimo como muy pocos en la historia del medio. El diseño artístico es único. Cada paisaje y pueblo es un agasajo. Detalles como la dirección del viento en el pasto, las sombras, los animales, el cambio de clima son elementos que sugieren una inmersión total.

    La jugabilidad de Breath of the Wild es el diamante mejor pulido de la saga. No importa si usas el Pro Controller o la Gamepad, el esquema prácticamente se funde con tu cerebro. Es muy intuitiva y responsiva. No imagino un mejor sistema de control para Link.

    Como mencioné anteriormente, los juegos de 10 ya no existen para mí. Puede que después de tres décadas de videojugador me he vuelto cínico y escéptico. Quizá sea porque mis mejores impresiones en este hobby se quedaron en Super Metroid, Metal Gear Solid y Ocarina of Time y que, aunque el medio se ha pulido con experiencias de excelente manufactura como The Last of Us, Shadow of the Colossus o Xenoblade Chronicles (por mencionar sólo algunos), definitivamente siempre se puede entregar un mejor producto. Zelda: Breath of the Wild no es un juego de 10, pero vaya que se acerca bastante. Totalmente recomendable y quizá el mejor juego de los últimos 5 años.    … Expand

    Only thing that keeps this from being a 10 is the lack of Gamepad integration and the lack of enemy variety. Possibly the best video game I've ever played.

    Finally completed and I must say that this was the most 7/10 game I've ever played. Going to keep this spoiler-free

    It took me a while to get hooked to the world of Link who can easily scale mountains but struggles to sprint from shop to shop. Abilities spiced it up along with easy cooking and fun traveling methods (Those sand seals were the best). But the way horses were handled was    Finally completed and I must say that this was the most 7/10 game I've ever played. Going to keep this spoiler-free

    It took me a while to get hooked to the world of Link who can easily scale mountains but struggles to sprint from shop to shop. Abilities spiced it up along with easy cooking and fun traveling methods (Those sand seals were the best). But the way horses were handled was just bizarre as you can only call your horse if it's close enough (Realistic I guess?) but you could still get the very same horse you left to 100km away if you happened to be at one of the stables (It's like 2 different people created these mechanics).

    Combat felt a bit airy every now and then but with that also a way more flexible with instant weapon switching and dedicated bow button (Infinite bombs are cool too). Boss fights also felt great (Counting out 1).

    Infinite bombs, unbreakable armor and teleporting to any shrine/tower aside the weapon durability system was terrible along with the lengthy ability cooldowns.

    Those were all things that mattered to me. Never take in just one review and call it a buy.

    PS. Curse those towers. I hope they disappear from gaming as soon as possible.

    One of the best gaming experiences of my life. It is hard to describe in words and I can see why some people would feel very salty about not being able to play this game. Masterpiece.

    The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a great game. Some may even call it the greatest Zelda game of all time or the greatest game of the year. I respect whoever may say that.

    The game opens up and you are on the Great Plateau. Once you get off of the Plateau, you are free to go wherever you want. Do you want to go to Death Mountain? Sure! Do you want to go to Zora's Domain? Sure!    The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a great game. Some may even call it the greatest Zelda game of all time or the greatest game of the year. I respect whoever may say that.

    The game opens up and you are on the Great Plateau. Once you get off of the Plateau, you are free to go wherever you want. Do you want to go to Death Mountain? Sure! Do you want to go to Zora's Domain? Sure! Do you want to go to Hyrule Castle? You'll likely end up dead but sure! You can go literally anywhere you can see and that opens up so many opportunities to the players.

    Instead of heart pieces, the game gives the player something called shrines. Shrines are like minidungeons scattered across Hyrule. Every shrine gives you a new challenge to complete. Whether it is fighting a killer robot, activating switches, or something else, it is always fun. Once you complete the shrine, you are given an item called a Spirit Orb. Gather four Spirit Orbs and you will be able to trade it into a statue of the goddess, Hylia to gain a Heart Container or Stamina Vessel. A Heart Container increases your maximum health and a Stamina Vessel increases your maximum stamina. Heart Containers can also be found once completing the four Dungeons. This system compared to the old Heart Piece system is much better, as it makes it a bigger challenge to get heart containers.

    Dungeons are very different from the dungeons in the old Zelda games. One thing that is different is that you don't have to do the dungeons in any specific order or even do the dungeons at all if you want to. Another thing is the difficulty. These dungeons are much easier than typical Zelda dungeons. In fact, they barely have any enemies whatsoever apart from a few robots and floating heads. Even the bosses are much easier. Another thing that is different is the set up. You get to explore the entire dungeon as you go through it and once you get the map, you are able to change the dungeon itself at will in order to complete it. You don't make your way to the boss room, you make your way going around to terminals to unlock the boss to fight. There is also no special items or miniboss in these dungeons. I truly do like these changes better because it makes being in the dungeon seem like an exploration.

    Despite the fact this might be an amazing game, the story is absolute crap. The story doesn't have the emotion and beauty as a normal Zelda game. The only emotion I felt in the story was with a character named Mipha. There are also emotional moments having to do with memories but that doesn't actually have to do with the main story. The story also gets repetitive at times when you are at the point where you have to do the four dungeons.

    Hyrule may be big, but it is empty. Outside of towns and stables there isn't much to do besides complete shrines and towers over and over and over again. It gets very repetitive so I wish they gave us more to do out in the wild, like more people to run into, more towns, etc. There is nothing out there. I tend to just hang out by towns because there isn't anything to do anywhere else.

    Those are the main points I wanted to explore, but here is my scores for things in a nutshell:
    Graphics: 8/10 (Very fitting for the style of game)
    Story: 4/10 (Very lacking)
    Voice Acting: 5/10 (Good but very unfitting for Zelda, Mipha, Rhoam, and Impa. Other characters are nice.)
    Characters: 5/10 (Zelda is a near perfect character although the other character needed more. Most barely showed up to do anything throughout the entire game except help out with the dungeons.)
    Gameplay Mechanics: 10/10 (Very innovative)
    Open World: 7/10 (Wonderful but very empty)
    Fun: 7/10 (You will not bore easily)

    In Conclusion:

    My cons with Zelda Breath of the Wild after 200 hours.
    ---> the story is bad,, nothing is epic, the sandbox takes all the space.
    ---> We don't care about the NPCs, not even their names like we used to in previous Zelda games. You can skip them and if you come back later to them they give you outdated news like "oh, there is a Shrine above Kakariko" (oh really?). They are not even in danger, they are not miserable, the 4 divinities are not dangerous, they should be used to them now, they have been corrupted for 100 years! 100 years!! 1 or 2 generations and yet they still complain about them!!. Those NPCs have no background: Hyrule has been destroyed recently and no one talks about that! They don't even know Link the knight of Zelda! Again, the story sucks, not even plausible. Miyamoto said he didn't care about the story. You see the result. How can you feel a Heros, there are nothing to save, no Ganon if you don't go and meet him. Zelda is more than 100 years old like her horse. Ok.
    IMO, Link should have been 10 000 years old, woke up naked in a forest, with no memory and he would have made his own destiny from here.
    Ocarina of Time & Majora's Mask are way better in term of story/pace/emotion.
    ---> You can't go fishing, like on a lake, with a boat. You don't meet an old sea dog who would tell you about a monster in the lake. NO, here everybody can see dragons flying in the air every day. Everything is fine. All the more those dragons just belongs to the farming system of the game. Woohoo!
    ---> No undergrounds, no caverns to explore. The only dark area sucks (bird statue temple to get another shrine)
    ---> You can't dive with the Zora outfit.
    ---> Infinite bombs. Bad idea.
    ---> Uninteresting side quests even if there were a few good ideas.
    ---> a lot of food for nothing. You always make the same easy and efficient recipes. There are not even a book in your inventory to remember them.
    ---> make a fire and change time is mainly useless. It could have brought a survival system (sleep/eat).
    ---> 900 korok seeds. I understand why but, there were better to do. More complex conundrums with bigger secrets, not trinkets behind a breakable wall (...)
    ---> few enemies, they all look the same like their camps.
    ---> there were farmers outside villages in the first presentation of the game.
    ---> No obstacle linked to enemies, or any events. Camps protect nothing, Lynels protect nothing. They are just idiot monsters doing nothing. And why can you climb everything in the first place. The game give you everything, all the powers. The endurance jauge is not a real issue.
    ---> That's why you leave your horse so often, climbing is better. Climbing should have been given later.
    ---> no hidden Temple, protected by magic like the two sphinx statues in "The Never ending Story" for instance, no "Great River of Wilderlands" with giant statues like in "Lord of the rings". Everything is open, dammit!
    ---> Bosses suck. Ganon is a shame. His second form is pathetic. A awful rip-off of Nago in Princess Mononoke.
    ---> 4 forgettable & easy dungeons.
    ---> Shrines may last 1 minute or 10? 20 of them are trials of power. 20! Too much.
    ---> Kakariko village famous tune is gone. No graveyard, no link with previous Zelda games unless the name of the regions (by the way, the ruins of Lon Lon Ranch are recent, it makes no sense again).

    Not a bad game of course, exploring the world is great, sure Nintendo worked hard on the engine. but it could have been way better. Zelda is not epic anymore since Wind Waker. I hope it will be a good basis for the next one. At least it is way better than Twilight Princess & Skyward Sword.    … Expand

    Let me add my addition to the truckload of 10 scores. I got this game recently, and have just beaten it a few days ago, and I'm going to say that this game is one of the best games ever. How, you might ask. The world is massive, with almost too much stuff to do, but yet it feels just empty enough to make you excited when you see something new. I got this game recently, and have just beaten it a few days ago, and I'm going to say that this game is one of the best games ever. How, you might ask. The world is massive, with almost too much stuff to do, but yet it feels just empty enough to make you excited when you see something new. The Great Plateau is glorious, feeling familiar yet distant, making you want to not want to leave it just yet so that way you can explore it all(and when I used Hero's Path mode about a month later, I found that I hadn't even explored that much of it. I honestly think the Great Plateau is the best "tutorial" area(it's more of a starting area), and rivals the genius of 1-1 from Super Mario Bros. Also, the characters are great and bring some variety, there are a whole bunch of mini-games, but you'll probably only play those a few times before you're bored. Then there's the shrines and Korok seeds. Now, I'm not a fan of the Legend of Zelda series because of the massive dungeons that take forever, they drain me, but with shrines, you go in, solve some puzzles for 5-10 minutes, and walk out with a Spirit Orb, which you only need 4 of to increase either your health or stamina. The Korok seeds are even smaller puzzles, taking only 2 minutes at most, and you need more of them than you would need Spirit Orbs to increase your inventory slots. There are 120 shrines and 900 Korok seeds, so you'll be playing the game for a while. The combat is great, with a ton of weapons and an amazing system. People usually complain about the enemy variety or the weapon's durability, but they aren't big problems. After about 10 hours into the game, I had no problems with the durability, and with the enemy variety, that wasn't an issue, since you learn what each type of enemy does and how to fight them. Two things I don't like are how you become super over-powered after you're 6-10 hours into the game(you can basically just hack and slash enemies, no strategy), and how the game bombards you with silver Bokoblins(the strongest type by a long shot) once you get far into the game. Silver Bokoblins aren't hard, they just take a LOT of time to beat(they have 720 health, don't give you the best of rewards, and have a less than mediocre weapon). It just isn't worth the time, so you just run past them. Okay, I forgot one last positive thing, the stables. The stables are like mini-towns and they're in a lot of places, and they mean that there's a shrine very near there, so it's an awesome find. So, is Breath of the Wild perfect, no, but is it amazing, you bet it is. Seriously, some games felt boring after playing this one, and you should definitely buy it if you have the means too.… Expand

    This game is not the best Zelda game in the franchise, but it is still good. There is a good background, and the open-world idea is fairly good. However, I still prefer the traditional style of Zelda games. Although there were 120 shrines, trying to complete all of them was tedious and boring, as there were too many of them, and they were too short. I did enjoy the side quests, however, I felt as though the game relied too heavily on the open world, shrines and side quests to make it longer. Yes, Majora's Mask did the same thing, however, it was done so that the side quest all helped with the main quest. In Breath of the Wild, the side quests were just for the sake of it. I also missed all of the regular items.
    To conclude, while I enjoyed Breath of the Wild, I hope that Nintendo revert back to the more traditional style of games later on, as I believe that they are way better.    … Expand

    Great game, a lot of fun to play. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is an awesome game. There is a lot of new features and the universe and the map are extremely large. This version give us all the power of WiiU. An Epic Game. Negative point: no voice acting for the main character Link.

    The world of Breath of the wild is as vast as the ocean, it's truly huge but sadly about as deep as a puddle. Granted I've only played around 10-15 hours and I won't be picking it up again, it doesn't take long to realise that despite the size of the world the only things you find are shrines, korok seeds or mobs with a chest that will have some item you can manage without if you want. IThe world of Breath of the wild is as vast as the ocean, it's truly huge but sadly about as deep as a puddle. Granted I've only played around 10-15 hours and I won't be picking it up again, it doesn't take long to realise that despite the size of the world the only things you find are shrines, korok seeds or mobs with a chest that will have some item you can manage without if you want. I simply skipped almost every fight since there is nothing to be gained from them.

    The biggest problem I found is that there's little point to doing anything other than the shrines, why kill those mobs over there? to get some arrows or a weapon etc which I will find something better of in a shrine most likely. Why look for korok seeds to increase my inventory when I'm already holding weapons that I'm just going to throw at something?

    The world itself I found really detailed and beautiful to look at but that's as far as I cared about it. Comparing it to something like Skyrim BotW is lacking, Skyrim has a massive world where talking to npc's can give you quests that take you into whole other worlds and can lead to some really interesting story or lore, investigating a statue would lead to dealing with a god and being rewarded or punished in some way. BotW however rewards you with little to nothing for your efforts, the story I class as nearly non existent, npc's may point you in the right direction, or hint at some shrine nearby etc but it's all the same thing over and over, I'm sure I could look up online all the shrine locations and just grind them to get the hearts and then do the divine beasts and ganon and I wouldn't loose any of the experience it would simply be easier. When I was playing Skyrim and looking up guides I still really enjoyed the adventure, BotW lacks that.

    So to summarise the world is nice to look at and theres' collectables to be found (bugs, plants etc) but ultimately gives no good reason to want to explore it once you've seen the basics.

As of April 15 2017 and over 10,000 user votes on both platforms, an analysis of the number of people who rated the game positively (rather than mixed/negative) relative to other Zeldas showed some interesting findings Nintendo should take on board. 1 in 3 people, globally, didn’t rate it positively compared to 1 in 10 for major 3D ZeldaInteresting what the Metacritic user data shows. Older titles like Link to the Past and its modern sequel, Link Between Worlds, are both also ranked at only 1 in 14 and 1 in 10, respectively, not rating it positively. This clearly shows that age or format of a Zelda game is less important than whether it employs a winning formula—a formula for enjoyment, satisfaction, and fun. Breath of the Wild along with Skyward Sword are the LEAST-LIKED major 3D Zelda games Nintendo have ever released by a substantial margin according to these figures, despite what the North American-centric internet media headlines claim, or what the numerically insignificant ‘critic’ reviews suggest. Good gaming formulas work; trying something new for the sake of it using the Zelda IP, just because a few loud mouths claim the ‘Zelda formula’ is ‘getting tired’, is a recipe for losing respect. After two poor major 3D Zeldas in a row now, I personally can’t buy another one until I’m convinced that it’s good from other sources. It’s a good job the astoundingly enjoyable Link Between Worlds was released recently, otherwise I’d have lost all hope for the series. LttP is an utterly marvellous experience; take note of why and please use that in future Zelda experiences. The game was legendary because of the stunning quality of the musical composition and scoring, the gameplay pace, and the rate at which fun things happened during uninterrupted gameplay. It was tight, original, had a very high ‘fun-density’, and oozed character—all completely absent in SS and BoTW…

    Really didn’t enjoy this game despite being very open-minded about it in the run up. It was a mediocre game in itself, and a very, very poor Zelda, relative to the best of past games, new and old. The Metacritic user data also shows this to be the case.

    My biggest complaints are:
    • No sense of designed adventure; felt more like a large complex technical demo than a well-crafted adventure experience. Like Skyward Sword and unlike any 3D Zelda game before it, I established no emotional attachment. This was principally due to the lack of a high quality, emotive, lyrical musical composition written by a master composer who understands the emotional language of music. I can’t stress this enough. Kondo was clearly inspired by the work of geniuses Goldsmith and Williams in the mid 70s-mid 80s in the movie world, and is himself a genius, with strengths in lyricism. This game was emotionally dead and I didn’t bond with it at all.

    • Didn’t feel like I accomplished anything meaningful while playing. Felt like a repetitive grind-fest or a slow, arduous, boring trudge through a mostly baron world. Climbing in particular was absolutely not fun; it was slow and often frustrating. Wandering around collecting stuff for the sake of it, to later grind blindly into materials for things which wear out in 2 minutes. Many gamers around the world don’t like farming—certainly not in a Zelda game! Of the 140 hours sank into this game to achieve 99% completion, about 120 were grinding and walking around/climbing in the empty world, not enjoying myself. I forced myself to get through it because I’d paid so much for it.

    • Cut scenes added very little and voice narration was disruptive to any emotional attachment. Due to the do-anything-without-restriction approach, I also saw them out of order; I saw key characters before I’d met them and lost any sense of story linearity—much like reading a book random chapter at a time.

    • Being one hit-killed, even when experienced, was deeply frustrating. Making a game challenging doesn’t mean the fun has to be taken out of it. This was just bad design.

    • The Wii U features being dropped (causing a delay in release) so they wouldn’t outshine the retrograde Switch console version was offensive and the game suffers for it—particularly when you contrast to how the beautifully done Wind Waker HD remake utilised the second screen.

    This game is indeed everything people hyped about. It's majestic world always keeps me entertained, the game is designed so I gotta look and explore every single inch of the map. I really love how the environment is alive, there are almost no "fake decorative" objects, everything is interactive and has physics on action.     The game counts with a vast variety of mechanics, collectibles, side quests, fauna, flora, weapons, enemies and places to explore that is hard to get tired playing this game even after beating the main quest and exceeding 100 hours of gameplay.

    The soundtrack fits perfectly with the scenario where you're exploring/facing/adventuring and so it must be considered a plus.

    It's important to note that because of Hardware limitations, the draw distance of the details are reduced, and some texture like the one's used on mountains might look low resolution and some times the game might run into several frames drop, but given the magnitude of the game, it's not even worth to take in consideration on the review note.

    Dungeons - Previous Zelda games had intricate dungeons.    I'm certainly in the minority here, but I found this game very tedious and boring. This game does not at all represent what I look for in a Zelda game. It is upsetting that the game is getting such good reviews since it means the Zelda formula I so enjoy is likely gone forever. Below are the details on what I'm talking about:

    Dungeons - Previous Zelda games had intricate dungeons. This game has for the most part traded them in for shrines. Though there are many more shrines than there have been dungeons in any Zelda game, the shrines tend to have very simplistic puzzles. Most can be finished in about 2 minutes and require very little thought. A few of these shrines involve combat, but it is always against the same boring enemy. A few of these shrines require solving a puzzle to find in the first place, and a number of those, the puzzle is basically to wait until the right time of day, then perform a menial task like shooting an arrow. For me, a game that is making me stand around and wait for something to happen is restricting my freedom and inflicting boredom.

    Exploration - For most people exploration is the big selling point, and it's true that there is a vast world to explore. Unfortunately I find that there are only a few different types of things to find, so it feels very repetitive. I always enjoyed the fact that in previous Zelda games you would notice areas you couldn't get to until you had the right item, and the excitement of returning once the item was found. This game doesn't really stop you from going anywhere once the initial couple of hours are done, and the few skills added after don't really offer anything that changes the gameplay as previous Zelda's did. Again I'm in the minority and obviously people love the fact they can do whatever they want...but to me it goes against one of my favourite things about Zelda games.

    Combat - Due to weapon durability, I was inclined to skip combat. It was boring and repetitive. There are a few bosses to fight but they don't require any thinking/ingenuity or special item usage like previous bosses.

    Very little traditional Zelda music - this speaks for itself.

    Conversations and cut scenes - More tedium. Most conversations take too long. I shouldn't have to wait for text to catch up with my reading speed, or wait for cheesy character animations or horrible voice acting.

    Climbing and Movement - This was incredibly tedious! So much of the game revolves around climbing, and the climbing is soooo slow! Not only that but you can easily spend a couple minutes climbing and then run out of endurance to reach the top... what a waste of time. The same applies to swimming - if you can't make it to shore it is game over. Walking/running speed is very slow too, but at least you don't get game over from it. You can upgrade stamina, which improves things a bit, but it is still very tedious. The worst feature of the game is the rain. Climbing is required all the time, and if it rains you can't climb... forcing you to switch gears and do something else, or just wait 10 minutes for the rain to stop.

    Lightning - When there's a lightning storm, you have to remove all your metal gear. Some people would label this as 'attention to detail', and maybe it is... but it doesn't change the fact that this is a super annoying gameplay mechanic. Like rain, this game is full of these kinds of annoying things that prevent you from doing what you want to do.

    Overall, this is my least favourite Zelda for the reasons stated. I really hope Nintendo does continue down this road for future Zelda games. Unfortunately they are really losing me as a fan... hopefully they don't ruin Metroid in the same way.    … Expand

    I know it's hard to criticize Zelda games but if it shouldn't be really. If you love something you want it improved. And you have it improved by removing the flaws.

    1. There is opportunity for excessive grinding. That is not bad per se, because it is purely optional, however, it is not made very clear to the player themselves that the grinding is purely optional. As a result it may take you about 40-50% of the game length at least until you realize "hey, I don't have to actually grind everything", if you are not into that kind of thing (of completism).

    2. The Z/L-Targetting system of Zeldas is still quite imperfect. Since Ocarina Of Time, it offered opportunity both to be easy to use but also to be clunky. Sadly, even in 2017 this problem has not been completely eliminated. Certain enemies might not be targeted exactly as the player intended or they may lose focus unintentionally. The optimal way to use it is to use it too delicately for its own good.

    3. The avoidance mechanic has a flaw which is not apparent at first. While technically it is flawless, it is in practice, because it depends on the animations of the actual enemies. As a result you may either misjudge how you need to dodge an attack without being necessarily your fault, or learn every animation and its response in the game by heart which is not usually fun.

    All in all the game still gets a 9 out of 10 of course. It is way better than 90%+ of games out there. But if you don't see its faults the series may devolve into being worse.    … Expand

    Beautiful, simply beautiful.
    The history of this game is magnificent, I have pc gamer, play 4 among other video game consoles, and I never entertain as much as with the zelda, as this design is made, it is a true work of art, a board does not play it with guides , At the most food guides, or else you miss a little the magic of descrying the mysteries of this work of art.

    Despite the occasional technical issue/lag spike, this is by far one of the best games I have ever played. The only other thing I could think of that holds it back is the lack of button remapping and the atrocious English dub, which can thankfully be changed to the original Japanese track after a free download. It deserves all of the praise it has been getting. Kudos to the developers.

    In terms story, I felt it fell short in regards of what I expect from a Zelda game. The story passed the buildup and placed you directly into the conflict, but the conflict didn’t seem like much of a conflict. Outside of the dark castle at the center of the map, the occasional blood moon, and the random goblins scattered about, the world seemed at piece. There was no great turmoil in the towns. The divine beasts were mostly a nuisance, not a threat. There was no sense of urgency for Gannon to be stopped.
    The open world aided to the feel of a lack of urgency. It was great getting to explore a massive open world, but with the vastness of the space I felt were not many memorable areas. Most of the game was identical looking. Green hills, brown dirt, rocks, lots of grass, trees. Very few locations stood out. The lack of a memorable soundtrack greatly aided in this. My biggest disappointment was the soundtrack because, well, there wasn’t one. One of the most memorable aspects of the Zelda franchise. Throughout the game there is only a handful of soundtracks, the most memorable being the cooking one.
    In addition to this, there was no real progress. Free the divine beast in no particular order, do every shrine you see, fight Gannon. It was mostly a check list. In addition, gear progression was the same. I never got attached to any weapon I found because it would just break. I used twigs and skeleton arms for most of the game. The gear didn’t feel all that special. I farmed the ancient soldier gear only to find that the barbarian gear from the labyrinth shrines was better, which was also a disappointment.
    The additional quests were also lackluster. They had an MMO style feel to them and most of the quest I completed had rewards of little worth, or you spent more in terms of time, food, equipment, and arrows completing the quest than you were rewarded. In addition, the quest felt like they had no impact on the world, did not aid in progression, and were essentially put in the game to make it feel more like an RPG.
    The Art direction of the game also had some issues. Whereas it was unique and beautiful, the highly saturation colors provided little contrast. This made it hard to see in many situations where sight was crucial. I adapted to it after some time, but the game could defiantly use more contrast.
    For those not trained in art, this may not make much sense, but when you look at an image it has something called a tonal range. This maps the value of color according to its relative lightness and darkness compared against black and white. An image with a realistic tonal range should have value all the way across, ranging from deep blacks to bright whites in highlights. A low contrast lacks both of these, and bunches them in the middle. After taking various screen shots from the game I confirmed this was the case by placing them in Photoshop and looking at their tonal range. A vast majority had no dark or light points, just mid tones.
    Over all the game is good. It is worth playing to experience the excitement and fun an open world RPG brings, but for those expecting a rich world filled with excitement, adventure, and amazing story telling you will walk away shot handed. This is their 1st open world game of this caliber, and they were successful in their endeavor, but I just hope they manage to incorporate a bit more of the magic of the Zelda universe into the game next time.    … Expand

    After almost 2 months, I completed the game. My opinion is that it's a flawless game. It's because it's endless, I had a lot of fun playing it also during travel. The CEL Shade is perfect. Couldn't take my eyes to other things. This was the game I only played for 1 month and 25 days. The combat is very good, it isn't dull. There are a lot of mini-games that I used to play a lot in thisAfter almost 2 months, I completed the game. My opinion is that it's a flawless game. I felt like I needed to write this review (ramble) because of all of the negative reviews this game has.     Nintendo decided to change its approach in terms of game structure for the latest Legend of Zelda game. The series has always been an open world adventure but with a regular path of progression which spurs the storyline forward. Aside from various skips and breaks, the game progresses in a certain order. Breath of the Wild (BotW) takes the open-world approach to the next level. When I first booted up the game I really wasn’t sure what to expect. Having seen the previews for it, I had a rough idea of the gameplay style but nothing could have prepared me for what I got from this game. Upon stepping out of the Chamber of Resurrection and seeing the massive world Nintendo had put before me, I was left speechless. Normally with open world games there is so much to do and explore that I often find myself feeling overwhelmed. But this was different. Instead of feeling brain-cramped with everything going on, I felt a surging sense of excitement.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Be careful not to buy into the hype on this one. While the world is mostly beautiful and the gameplay is fresh for the franchise, it's not "the best game of all time." There are plenty of games prior to BotW which deserve higher praise.

    As an open world game, it falls for many of the trappings one would expect from it. The map is wrought with towers to reveal hidden areas and there are plenty of repetitive tasks to do.

    The world is vibrant and full of interesting locals and NPCs to help build up a believable Hyrule. This is the games strongest aspect. Unfortunately all of the locations are the same as usual. You have the forest, desert, ocean and volcano zones. Nothing surprising there.

    The combat is great, but not as great as Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, though. Every enemy encounter feels like a challenge. The game isn't well balanced, though. Some enemies in the game are too powerful. This is especially evident at the end where you get hit once by a low level enemy and lose most of your hearts. This results in you being forced to open the menu and use a healing item... every single time you are hit. Let's not mention the stupid weapon durability system.

    Another annoyance is the over abundance of the SAME enemies in ALL areas of the game. Most Zelda games pride themselves on interesting enemy designs that fit to their dedicated zones. NOT in this one. From beginning to end you're fighting pig men, lizard men and robots. Even the bosses are the same creature every encounter.

    The dungeons, if you want to call them dungeons, are interesting little puzzles that are executed neatly. That's all I can say about them. The lack of real dungeons is a serious omission.

    The open ended nature of this game is both its greatest element and its weakest. For example, Hyrule castle is presented as an enormous challenge. To get through the gate, one must defeat an onslaught of tough enemies JUST to get a chance at fighting Ganon. There's one way around this... if you take what you learned from the game (which is to avoid difficult situations completely) then you can easily climb a pillar behind the castle and glide directly to Ganon's chamber. This mechanic is game breaking in many situations like this. Instead of forcing the player to take the plunge, it just gives you the tools to ignore it entirely for the easy way out. This is not good game design. It's intentions are to give the player freedom, but there's a TOO much freedom here.    … Expand

Not only is it completely immersive in a massive open world, but the exploration gives a sense of freedom in what you want to do. The main dungeons are perfectly crafted, the shrines are very clever and the game mechanics are clean and simple to follow. This place is so believable, and it is so easy to get hopelessly immersed inside of it. Exploring never feels tedious or repetitive, and there's always something to do or discover. Also, this game contains one of the most incredible physics engines ever created. Things move around and react to stimuli so realistically and it is so fun to play around with. For example, wind dynamically moves around grass, and if you cut down a tree, it falls in the direction you hit it. The game also has a very dynamic and satisfying combat system, which is simple at face value, but has a lot of interesting and complex possibilities in practice. This game's soundtrack while exploring is largely quiet piano cues from time to time, and while its very subtle, its beautiful and captures the experience perfectly. Town themes are very relaxing and well suited to the location and combat makes use of dynamic music, which perfectly compliment the actions inside battles. Some standout tracks outside of those include the exciting and tense Guardian encounter theme, the catchy accordion melody of Kass's theme, and the game's phenomenal new main theme. Another thing is the visuals. While its not extremely realistic, it doesn't need to be nor is it supposed to be. It has a uniquely stylized look with a vibrant and rich color palette, topped off with stellar lighting and shadow engines. One of my favorite features in the game are the 100+ shrines, which are like mini-dungeons, scattered across the map. Finding them is a blast and inside are some of the most deviously clever puzzles in Zelda history. I don't want to give away anything, but the story, while not a huge focus this time around, is pretty darn good too. And lastly, this game just induces some of the most indescribable feelings I've felt playing a video game. Just walking through the massive landscapes as the sun is setting, and the wind blows through the grass, I just feel happy and at peace. I know that sounded really pretentious but that's the only way I know how to communicate that. At times, it almost feels like a disservice to call this a video game. Breath of the Wild is truly an experience. It has been so long since I've felt so strongly about any piece of media. Every action I took was done when and where I wanted - absolute freedom to play in Hyrule how I wanted.     The fact that BotW is so personal to whomever plays it is likely one of the contributing factors for the rating a player gives this game. I personally never came across any game-breaking glitches, and don't actually recall having any frame-drop issues. But, that might be due to the way I chose to play the game - little to no combat, high stealth, and lazily walking everywhere I went. I can see how another player who chose to take on BotW in a completely different way might be confronted with different issues, which in itself challenges the "freedom" granted by this game. If choosing to play BotW in certain ways results in a higher likelihood of problems, then it seems to restrict what players can actually do in the game.

    As an avid Dark Souls/Bloodborne fan, I enjoyed the flavor of combat in this title. Battles had weight, with enemies dealing HEAVY amounts of damage, and weapons being all-too fragile when in a pinch. The score is thoughtful and subtle, the world is gorgeous and varied, and the story (though thin) has a pretty heavy ambience to it that felt darker and more oppressive to me than it likely did for most other players.

    BotW is not without its problems. The voice acting is bad, but not even in a charming "so-bad-it's-good" way ala Silent Hill 2 or House of the Dead. The monotony in a large percentage of the shrines can grind gameplay to almost a halt. The lack of ANY non-breakable melee options is frustrating; even something like a broken hilt or weak knife would be better than being completely unarmed without breaking the game's difficulty. Other players have found ways to break combat with armor buffs, but a casual playthrough like mine didn't see much opportunity to increase armor stats.

    In the end, a 9/10 is my subjective score for this game. I have so few issues with it, and can't wait to return to it. It's hard to give an objective score because BotW, like the rest of the Zelda series, is very personal. For those who enjoy BotW, they love it. For those who don't, they, well, don't. If you have a WiiU, there is really no reason to let this one go untried. Rent it. Buy it. Borrow it.    … Expand

    For such an impressive and massive exploration of game design and creation, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is truly a testament to Nintendo’s commitment to quality experiences in perhaps what is their greatest series ever. There are a few technical issues at times and yet for the life of me I can think of no other detriments to the overall experience that Breath of the Wild offers- which is truly astounding in such a large game, as the majority of even the most finely tuned experiences such as The Witcher 3 have had their fair share of dramatic bugs and glitches over the years. All things said and done, where you’re a long-time fan of the series or a newcomer altogether, if you have a Wii U or perhaps the Nintendo Switch, I implore you to give this game a whirl as it’s a truly unforgettable and worthwhile experience like none other. It’s way too soon to tell for certain, but compared to even the greatest iterations of the series, Breath of the Wild will be remembered fondly.

    Concept: Meld traditional elements of The Legend of Zelda series into a truly open world design that tasks players not only with survival but exploration for the sake of progressing through the experience.

    Graphics: It is not the gritty experience that Twilight Princess was in its more realistic art direction and yet Breath of the Wild’s design is flawless and fits perfectly with the tones present throughout the narrative.

    Sound: From nature’s call to the subtle yet fitting melodies that ramp up with each new discovery and encounter, the themes are slightly different from past soundtracks in the series and yet they work just as well.

    Playability: Forget past issues with motion control and sometimes finicky elements on the Wii and Wii U, as far as I am concerned the mechanics and controls handle better than they ever have before.

    Entertainment: Whether you choose to mix story and side elements or pursue one solely over the other, Breath of the Wild is a thrilling and compelling experience and one that you will surely remember for a long time to come.

    Replay Value: High.

    Atmospheric and fitting soundtrack, with some nods to the soundtracks of previous Zelda games. It fits the game nicely, and it is well produced, but I wouldn't listen to it outside the game. It is ultimately just background music, and it can be rather forgettable.

    Story: 3/10
    Breath of the Wild is not a story-oriented game, and it shouldn't be reviewed as one. The story really doesn't have much going for it, but that doesn't detract much from my opinion of the game. This is an exploration-oriented adventure game, and it doesn't need a good story. However, if you are considering buying this game hoping for a good story, you might want to reconsider. It's basically a 30 minute story in a 200 hour game. Every other Zelda game I've played since and including A Link to the Past, has had a better story. I won't spoil anything, but the game starts with Link waking up after a long slumber, and he has lost his memory. The problem is, all the story bits happened before Link wakes up, i.e. before the game starts, i.e. it's all exposition. This exposition is told to you mostly through short memory snippet cutscenes. The cutscenes are quite nice and enjoyable, but they don't make a well told story. You start playing the game in what is technically the final resolution stage of the story.

    Gameplay: 9/10
    This is the most important aspect of a game, and I believe it is the most subjective aspect to review. For me, Breath of the Wild has excellent gameplay. The world is filled with interesting places to explore, weapons to wield, enemies to fight, and things to do. You can even help build a new town! The game rewards exploration, which goes perfectly together with the large open world. The combat is very fun and not too complicated, and the difficulty level is perfect in my opinion. However, there is one mechanic that directly obstructs the exploration-focused gameplay: rain. Specifically, the fact that rain makes climbing nigh impossible. This is implemented intentionally at one point during the game, to prevent you from taking shortcuts through a certain area. And that's perfectly fine. But the random rain that occurs throughout the game is anything but fine. Exploration is the key focus of this game, and climbing is one of the key methods for exploring the world. It should NOT be compromised for the added realism of a random rain mechanic. That, along with some recurring frame rate drops, keeps this game from getting a perfect 10 for gameplay.

None of those experiments, however, were as comprehensive as Breath of the Wild. From Ocarina of Time's 3D revolution to the touch-based DS experiments, Nintendo's flagship adventure series has tried quite a few new directions, with varying levels of success. None of those experiments, however, were as comprehensive as Breath of the Wild. And none of them were ultimately as fantastic.

    This sense of newness is made clear from the beginning, in which the player gets immediately cast as a long-slumbering Link, without any sort of exposition. The character has no memory, and only wakes up from his ressurection chamber following a mysterious voice echoing in his head.

    The first moments of the game are spent exploring the Great Plateau, a location in central Hyrule that serves as an introduction to the game's main mechanics. However, after you're able to exit the Plateau thanks to your paraglider and tablet-like sheikah slate, you can go anywhere you please, including straight to the ruins of Hyrule Castle, where Calamity Ganon, the entitity who brought the world to ruin 100 years ago, waits. For a series that has become heavy on hand-holding, things are off to a great start.

    The astounding level of freedom given to the player is only possible thanks to Link's game-changing ability to climb almost any surface. Previous Zelda titles would separate areas of the game by throwing unpassable mountains between them; here, each mountain is simply a new invitation to explore. The full-fledged physics engine, meanwhile, makes traversing each area even more addictive, as things just click together in a very organic way.

    As someone who loves seamless exploration, I can get frustrated by intrusive story-heavy sections, all-too-common in releases nowadays. Breath of the Wild eschews this approach in a genius way: Link is soon able to recover several pictures in his sheikah slate, apparantly taken by Princess Zelda before the calamity. By finding the spots in those pictures, he can recover his memory piece by piece. This makes the story essentially a collectible, to be experienced according to the player's investigation skills, and one of the many reasons to thoroughly explore the world.

    The game's Hyrule is a character unto itself: a post-apocaliptic world with signs of war and destruction at every corner, but which manages to also be extremely inviting in its pastoral beauty. Scattered over 15 seamlessly-connected, sprawling regions are plenty of ruins, but also towns, stables, landmarks, quirky characters, enemy camps, and (of course) a large number of secrets to uncover. Curiosity is always rewarded, sometimes with weapons or smaller collectibles, sometimes with large boss-like enemies or shrines.

    Oh yeah, the shrines. You see, one of the longest-running Zelda traditions are its dungeons. You'd get to them (usually in linear order), solve their puzzles, collect treasure (including the special items needed to complete them), and beat the boss at the end.

    Breath of the Wild, however, completely reimagines how this works. There are 120 shrines to find, and those are like bite-sized dungeons with puzzles and treasure chests. At the end of each of them, you get a spirit orb, needed to permanently increase energy and stamina. I'm of the mind that some Zelda titles can overdo dungeons, making them interminable sections of puzzle after puzzle in which I'm unable to even save and continue from where I stopped; for that reason, this new approach was a huge breath of fresh air. It also helps that the puzzles here are modular: many of them have several possible solutions, depending on how creative you want to get.

    Of course, dungeons had an imponence that smaller shrines just can't match. This is where the actual stand-in for dungeons come into play. There are four of them, and they are probably the most epic thing I've seen in any Zelda game, ever. They have some key differences from traditional dungeons in how they work: each is one giant puzzle you need to solve progressively, and the ingenuity of their interconnected designs made me feel like an engineer at times for mastering them.

    Speaking of story, this is a series-best. The melancholy of a devastated Hyrule can make each memory you recover extremely bittersweet, as you meet the champions that were supposed to fight the calamity, each with their own particular relationship with Link, and delve into the most well-developed Princess Zelda character we've ever been graced with.

    it's weird to admit it, but Breath of the Wild single-handedly makes the entire catalogue of previous 3D Zelda games somewhat obsolete. Going back to the old approach would mean abandoning the extreme sense of freedom that pushes this game so much above everything else that's out right now. Either under the lens of the Zelda series, the open world genre, or gaming as an art form, Breath of the Wild is nothing short of a masterpiece.    … Expand

It isn't bad, but could be a lot better. the music only play sometimes, with a melancholic piano to give us the felling of being alone in the big world. because of this, the game have just a fell memorable musics. again isn't bad, but the franchise had a better soundtracks. about the other topics, the game do everything perfectly right.     Good: a truly excellent open world, beautifully designed, artistically gorgeous, endlessly explorable. It brings fresh life to the now-standard idea of an open world. The new Link is full of personality for a guy who never really talks. NPCs are charming, quirky, and often funny, and exhausting their dialogue options is always worthwhile. Kass and Paya are personal favorites. The physics engine was incredible! One thing they really did right was in all the little details. There are plenty of joyous surprises for those who want to experiment and explore. So let me repeat--this is an excellent game, and it's worth you time. A superlative game, compared to others on the market. It is not, however, without flaws, even quite serious flaws.

    Bad: The enemy variety is uninspired. A handful of enemies that are repeated endlessly, with different skins and colors. Unlike previous Zelda games, you won't find any redeads, wallmasters, poes, or any unexpectedly terrifying monsters like Dead Hand from OOT. No scary enemies or creepy dungeons where you might hear the telltale shriek of a redead paralyzing you.

    Hand in hand with that is the boss variety. Unlike previous Zelda games, there aren't new and exciting, visually impressive bosses that challenge you to use the skills and tools at your disposal. You fight the same boss 4 times, and then again as the end-game boss. Over and over, with slightly different elemental powers. The final boss looks like it's trying to pass for a monster in Yharnam--but if I wanted to fight Yharnam monsters, I'd be playing Bloodborne, not Zelda. It's nothing like Ganon. It doesn't have the crushing difficulty to match a Bloodborne enemy anyway.

    Combat quickly becomes lackluster with the frustrating weapon durability mechanic. Rather than encouraging variety, it encourages you to use your worst weapons the whole time for fear of losing your good ones, or the ones with elemental powers that you need for special enemies. The master sword's "energy limit" is some serious garbage too. A breakable master sword? Really? In the end, the durability mechanics turned the MS from the Blade of Evil's Bane to the Blade of Chopping Down Trees Because I Don't Want to Waste My Other Blades.

    The story is often charming and could have been great, if they had put more focus on developing a compelling story. But, like the music, it's so downplayed it's barely noticeable, so that when the occasional familiar Zelda element slides in, it feels weirdly out of place.

    The music is not very memorable, and nothing like the sweeping epics of its predecessors. Once in a while, a familiar tune will play, and in the final castle, it finally comes in full-force. But it feels like a fun musical Zelda reference in a non-Zelda game. Jarring.

    Dungeon variety is woefully nonexistent. Arguably the most impactful element of the franchise's incredible legacy, sprawling, complex, rich, and sometimes nerve-wracking dungeons are part of what made the series so famous. They're iconic. But they're totally excised this time. You have shrines, 120 samey mini-dungeons with repetitive puzzles. And you have divine beasts, 4 samey, slightly larger mini-dungeons. There's no variety to them at all, nothing to make them even visually distinct and interesting. Even exploring the beautiful open world begins to lose its appeal when you realize that the only rewards you will find are shrines and korok seeds.

    I could go on. But it boils down to this one sad, strange feeling. There's a difference between shaking up convention and straightforward iconoclasm. And this game falls too hard toward the latter. Utterly gutting the series icons gave us a breathlessly beautiful product, with nothing under the surface, least of all a Zelda game. Maybe it sounds trivial, but I find that Link's redesign is not only one of the worst offenses, but emblematic of the underlying problem. They took Link's iconic green outfit with his pointy hat away, reportedly because it doesn't "look cool." Sure, in isolation, there's nothing especially cool-looking about the green tunic. But it DOES look cool--because it looks like Link, from the Legend of Zelda, and Link is cool. He makes it look heroic. There are lots of cool-looking video game characters out there, but there's only one who looks like Link. The attitude among the devs that said Link isn't cool-looking enough is the same attitude that said Ganon needed to look like a Soulsborne villain. It's the same attitude that took away deep dungeons, exciting bosses, creative enemy designs, and cool weapon variety. It never felt like I was playing Zelda. As an open-world RPG with a barely passable Zelda skin, it was neat. But it soured so fast I was feeling heartbroken by halfway through the game. It's sad to see the devs disregarding the legacy of such an important series. In the end, what makes Zelda so special was gone, and that, for me, outweighed the joys.    … Expand

Solo hice dos mazmorras y los "puzles" que había en ella, si se pueden llamar puzles a eso que era más fácil que pegarle a una piedra con un palo, puede que se pongan más díficiles al final, pero viendo las del principio, no tengo esperanzas de que los puzles supongan un reto de habilidad real.

    2. La segunda, su mundo está vacío!!!! Solo hay hierbas, unas cuantas ruinas desperdigadas y nada más. Vi a un Jabalí al inicio del juego y tras 5 horas no he visto nada más, ni un misero pájaro ni nada, ¿de donde sacan los Bokoblin la carne? De animales no por que no hay, solo hay Bokoblin, ruinas y hojas. El mundo de Hyrule está muerto, no tiene vida, y desconozco si tenía clima (lluvia, tormentas, etc.) pero me da que el clima lo indicaba la zona y era siempre el mismo. Me daba siempre la sensación de sitio vacío.

    3. Las armas y su sistema de rotura. Esto ya puede ser variante de una persona a otra. El sistema de armas y que se te rompan siempre hagas lo que hagas (pensé que se podían reparar pero no) a mi no me ha gustado, ya que implica dos cosas, primero que yo no puedo usar siempre el arma que me guste porque se me romperá, y segundo es que es seguro que tendrás que ir recolectando armas como si fueran meros objetos de usar y tirar, por lo que estoy convencido de que conseguir armas en este juego no es difícil, seguramente llegas a un sitio nuevo y te las encuentras en cualquier lado sin esfuerzo. Tampoco me gusto el sistema de la tableta esa que te dan al principio, que es una llave para abrir cosas.... vamos a ver si te dan la llave para entrar a todas las cosas al principio del juego obligado... ¿para que demonios la cierran? Que las dejen abiertas y que no necesite ese pase raro, o que se necesite de habilidades especiales para entrar en las dungeon como en otros zeldas.

    4. El Hype y la critica del juego. Espera un juegazo que me hiciera ver las estrellas y que dijera que bomba de juego, ojo el juego no es malo, pero esperaba muchísimo más, no un Sandbox de apartado técnico cutrillo, con una historia que ni fu ni fa, con un mundo sin vida y con un sistema tan fácil de mientras recolectes y lleves toda la mochila llena de comida y armas (que las encuentras sin esfuerzos y a patadas por el mundo) eres Dios y no morirás, aderezado por unas dungeon y puzles que hasta para niños sería fácil.

    Para dejarlo claro, estaba jugando al Ocarina of Time y al Windwaker y los deje parados para ponerme con este... Prefiero los otros dos sin dudas, al igual que también prefiero en Skyward Sword. Me falta jugar al Majora Mask y al Between Worlds. Eso si no es el peor de la franquicia, mi lista sería:

    Abstract:

    A Sandbox of Zelda is very easy. The world is dead, no animals, no clima, all is empty. Tecnichally poor but beatiful (but poor). With food and weapons (you can find easily in any place on Hyrule) you are God mode, and you cant die. Very easy game. The Story... regular.

    Good game, yeah, good, no perfect or the best in the world.... o no, only good. My list of game of zelda, in order I prefer, is:

    This is a game that made me remember that a good game doesn't need to render in 4k at 60fps to be fun.

    As this game remembered me, a game should entertain you, and this game did it for me. It made me come home wanting to launch the game and explore some more.

    I understand if Zelda fans find missing things or if someone doesn't consider possible for a game to be great of it doesn't look photo-realistic.

    But taking into account that this is a Wii U game (and not a XBox Excorpio tech demo) I find all about it really beautiful and enjoyable.

    I now this is not a real review, but you have thousand of those online.

    In the end I think all you need to know to decide if this game is for you is:

    * It is open world from minute 2. If you don't like that, you still might like this one, but less probably.
    * If you are all graphics, graphincs, graphics, you don't own a Wii U and you are not reading this, so...
    * If you are ready to be challenged to think to solve your issues instead of given a yellow brick road... You'll love this.

    Excelente juego , la wii u no fue la mejor consola para muchos pero este juego la redime a pesar de haber salido en switch , los gráficos son espectaculares pero el juego sufre de caídas de frame a veces . el arte es asombroso y los detalles te dejan sorprendido , después de 100 horas jugándolo y de haber terminado la historia principal debo decir es uno de los ,mejores juegos de la historia .

    Coming off the bad Skyward Sword, I was a bit skeptical about Breath of the Wild. But it has now been held up as the second coming of christ. I was going to play it anyways because I am a fan but I picked it up opening weekend.
    First impressions were bad. My favorite Zelda is Windwaker because that's still the only Zelda game where Link was a recognizable human other than a hero cliche.    Coming off the bad Skyward Sword, I was a bit skeptical about Breath of the Wild. But it has now been held up as the second coming of christ. I was going to play it anyways because I am a fan but I picked it up opening weekend.
    First impressions were bad. My favorite Zelda is Windwaker because that's still the only Zelda game where Link was a recognizable human other than a hero cliche. Breath of the Wild opens with you coming out of a sacred bath and being told that he is the ultimate hero that is destined to save the world. An overlong tutorial lasts for a whole hour and then the King of Hyrule disguised so obviously as an old man reveals himself.
    Once i got past this and got to explore the world, my impression of the game got better. The world was very enjoyably open and felt epic. The world is so large(By Zelda standards) that its easy to get confused about where you are supposed to go. It took me a full day to realize that getting shrines wasn't the goal of the game. But this revelation actually made me enjoy the game more because I can explore to my hearts content.
    My second to last major issue was with the Divine Beast in the Desert. It drove me to the point where I decided I wasn't going to worry about getting another Divine Beast until I got the Master Sword. I like that you have to get enough hearts to get the Master Sword and finding it was quite fun. But once I got it nothing was a real challenge because the weapon degradation system is frickin terrible.
    My biggest problem though is with the story. Because it's terrible. No character has any real personality. A lot of the side characters have a single quirk that they just repeat over and over again and are generally not funny. Also the world may be gigantic but every revelation amounts to a shrine which was massively disappointing.
    Overall this is still a really good Zelda installment. It isn't the masterpiece that is has been hyped up to be but it's still one of the better Zelda's in recent years.    … Expand

The music, which is a standard of quality in the series, here is just ok, and the main villain, while interesting in its design and fight. leaves a little bit to be desired in question to previous incarnations. For me, this game is an excellent one, one that any fan of zelda, nintendo, open world games, or just games in general have no excuse of not playing (even for Wii U), but there are some aspects that perhaps could have been more up to par to truly be a masterpiece like some games in this series have been in the past. I really enjoyed this one, and I believe that this is the foundation for the franchise forward (including the voice acting, that while not that good, really didn't angered me at all) and with this in place, for the next one is time to truly combine this new aspects and really go full out, a fully voiced acted game not only cutscenes, a more complex storyline with truly great and complex dungeons and bosses and music in the truly legendary standard that this series is used to.
    PS: What the hell nintendo, Why make Epona a pay up priviledge only if you have the Smash bros link amiibo, that's Capcom levels of greed.    … Expand

The moment you hop out of the shrine of resurrection and view the vast depths of Hyrule is mesmerizing. I believe this moment is iconic. The Great Plateau is a game design marvel. The Great Plateau teaches you about shrines, towers, Guardians, and combat. It has an abundance of detail so exploration in it makes it enjoyable. It's the most linear part of the game yet it still feels non-linear. You can attack the shrines in any order, discover enemy encampments and gear at any point. I appreciate how the game sets up props you can use in combat situations that highlight the superb physics engine.

    After The Great Plateau, the game truly opens up. The fact you can go and destroy Ganon at any point is amazing because it lets you play the game at your pace and skill. I think Hyrule is a regionally very diverse and it contains so much to explore. I'll admit after 70 hours it becomes a little repetitive because you just go finding shrines, korok seeds, and towers. However, those first 70 hours are magical. Finding overworld bosses, watching enemies detailed animations, finding crazy loot, and discovering wonderful landscapes is so addictive. Climbing, especially, is extremely fun. Breath of the Wild is at its best when this beauty of exploration glistens off the screen.

    Combat in this game is overall pretty good. The environments in the overworld when you use the physics engine for creative kills is super rewarding and fun. The normal swordplay with the 3 main variants of weapons is fun. The one-handed sword, spears, and two-handed heavy swords are fun at first. The perfect shield bash has fairly strict timing, especially compared to Skyward Sword's mechanic. The problem with combat is the perfect dodge. It works really well with swords and two-handed swords however with spears the timing feels bugged and too easy to use. The flaw in the perfect dodge is apparent to the final boss. I won't spoil anything but I will say that many times I found I performed a perfect dodge that didn't deserve to go into the cool matrix-esq animation. The main flaw with combat is weapon durability. I found that in early the durability was fun because you could smash your broken weapons into an enemies skull and pick up other weak weapons on the fly. However, in the later game, you have really strong weapons that feel like they break way too quickly and sometimes it's hard to find equally rare weapons. I understand the reason why durability is in the game. It makes you master a multitude of different weapons and I think it does achieve this. I don't think durability is as bad as people make it out to be but it does have some flaws. The bow combat is snappy. On the mention of quick and snappy, the UI, at least for hot keying weapons, is very fast and efficient. Overall combat in the game is good but there are some things the developers could have done to make it better.

    The shrines and dungeons in the game are a mixed. The incentive to beat them is basically to obtain new skills and increase your heart and stamina capacity. Too many of the shrines are combat oriented. They become stale really fast. There are some really astonishing puzzles in the shrines and I found the main bulk of them to be excellent. I especially appreciate the ones that can be broken by using the mechanics the game gives to you. The mechanics the game gives are the runes. All three of them are used very well throughout the world, however, sometimes Cyanosis is a tad underutilized(but just a little). Anyways, I think it is a positive when you can use them to break puzzles because it highlights the beauty of multiple solutions. My main gripe with past Zelda games is that too many puzzles are one solution based. So this is a positive. The negative however are some of the shrines that having nothing but a chest. These shrines are good sometimes when a quest getting to them is really long and strenuous. Yet, some are a little too easy or short thus making the reveal of the shrine being a chest one kind of underwhelming. I won't spoil too much but the dungeons are really good puzzle wise, Length wise they are disappointing especially if you are a hardcore Zelda fan and have experienced some long amazing dungeons. The design of these dungeons is amazing, however somewhere in development length was discarded. The bosses are pretty good and don't rely on using the one dungeon item to beat them, like other Zeldas that are infamous for doing that.

    I won't go into the story much but it's pretty shallow. For a game like this, I think it overall works because with such a non-linear structure it is hard to create an engaging story. It's not terrible but I still think something was missing to make it good.

    Each piece of the map seems to have it's own character in terms of unique challenges, and side quests. The side quests are much improved over Zelda games of the past IMO. These are combat, problem solving, exploration type quests. Mostly gone are the bowling, fishing, shooting, arcade style quests which never held much excitement for me.

    I love that the game has been re-imagined. To me the franchise had grown a bit stale. When I played Wind Waker for the first time a couple years ago it was literally a chore to get to Gannon. I was actually glad to be done with that game. This is very much a fresh start compared to what had become the Zelda formula. I had a problem initially with the way the game looks, but the freedom and excitement the open world provides has swallowed those concerns. I'm truly looking forward to playing this thing for another 100 hours.

    There are tons of reviewers complaining about the breakable weapons, and shields, so I'll address that. There are loads new weapons which regenerate constantly. If you have a favorite weapon you can easily grind more of them. The breakability is neither a plus nor a minus to me. I like the suggestion one fan had to allow players to increase the durabillity of their favorites through upgrades. but I don't think the weapons should be unbreakable unless you make them that way.

    Another very common criticism has been that there are not enough monsters, or that there are only a few monsters in the game, and they are re-skinned again and again. I really don't get that at all. The monsters are excellent, have distinct personalities, which give the game tremendous variety, and if any of them are being re-skinned more than a couple times I have not noticed it. This is no different than in previous Zelda games where monsters like Lizalfos are re-represented at night as skel monsters, and monsters like the chu-chus have a handful of different species. This criticism is the most baffling one for me. One reviewer wrote that there are only about eight monsters in the entire game which are re-skinned again and again. I immediately counted 17 different types off the top of my head, and I'm sure that I forgot tons. The great thing about the monsters in this game is that each species has its own unique personality. Lynels are smart and incredibly tough. Lizalfos are idiotic and will actually go sniff bombs that you throw at them from a hiding place. I have had hours of fun just tossing bombs at them from behind rocks and watching their reactions.

    It's the gameplay that stands out and makes this game fun. I've been kinda bored(not totally bored, but a little bit) with some of the recent Zelda titles I've played, because they all tell essentially the same story, and they all use the same formula: obtain some fun tome and use it to traverse a dungeon and defeat a boss, rinse, repeat. BOTW makes the story seem fresh, and interesting. The dungeon formula is gone. This is something new and interesting. The open world gives you more freedom to have fun in a variety of ways, and to do it in my favorite way which is to come up with a strategy to defeat the enemy you want to go after. I like grinding or farming a bit to get the things I need before overcoming a boss. For me, that's the difference between a subdued "cool" and a "yeehaw" with both fists raised in the air. The enemies are often tough enough in this game to make it feel like you have truly accomplished something when you beat them down. Prior to this game the Zelda franchise didn't make that part very fun for me.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A much-needed change from the standard 3D Zelda formula. Arguably the biggest (pun-intended) change from past installations in the Zelda franchise is the massive open-world map: a veritable playground for the curious and adventurous. Virtually any point you see on the map, you can reach. The stamina wheel from Skyward Sword makes a return, though this time it is upgradeable, and link can climb any surface to any heights he has the stamina to reach, which really opens up the door for exploration in an entirely new way.

    The magic of Breath of the Wild lies in its insistence in letting the player experiment and figure things out on their own, rather than guiding them down a scripted path for them to follow. Wanna go to Hyrule Castle as soon as you're off the Great Plateau? You can! For starters, the entire world map is obfuscated from the player's view at the beginning of their adventure. You reveal portions of the map by climbing watchtowers and surveying the area around you. I know what you're thinking. "Ugh, yet more towers in an open world game!" and I was right there with you the first time I saw one of these giant glowing orange monoliths. Though, where any other open world game would fill your map with mission objectives and icons once you climb the tower, attempting to force some sort of urgency on the player for plot reasons, Breath of the Wild takes a different approach in simply revealing a portion of the map to the player, nothing else. Any sidequests or treasure or points of interested will have to be marked by the player themselves. In this way, the game is excellent at fostering a desire to explore within the player.

    Perhaps the most controversial decision was that to generally eschew the traditional gameplay loop of "explore overworld, complete dungeon, repeat", and it's a decision that I was on the fence about for a long while. Though there are a few traditional "main" dungeons to play through, the majority of your puzzle-solving will be done in shrines, a sort of short-form dungeon with their own respective puzzles. The upside is that any of the shrines or "Dungeons" are able to be played in any order the player chooses, which gives real weight to player choice during the course of the game. You can do as little or as much as you want before taking on the final boss of the game.

    I think this is where the playerbase is split. 3D Zelda games to this point have been (for the most part) aggressively linear and scripted, leaving less room for player experimentation and choice. Traditionally, the story only plays out one way, and you must follow that. While some people are looking for this more focused, linear experience, others are rejoicing at the sheer joyfui experimentation that Breath of the Wild so heartily encourages. And while Breath of the Wild does have its problems, they're so few and far between that any frustration I had felt playing the game was always so quickly replaced with the wonder and joy of discovery.

    TL;DR: If you love setting the own pace of your adventure and freedom of choice (elder scrolls anyone?), there's a good chance you will have a blast with this game, while if you're looking for a more focused, streamlined and directed experience, you might find yourself bored with nothing to do.    … Expand

It wasn’t until the latest entry Breath of the Wild that we were able to take hold of the reigns and, in fact, lead Link, through an epic adventure across Hyrule.

    Breath of the Wild’s Hyrule, a land filled with inevitable deaths, thrilling environments, and puzzles that will require some serious critical thinking. And remember to dress appropriately, the weather in Hyrule is the least bit predictable. I recommend you refrain from wearing that plate armor during a thunderstorm. That’s right, physics and logic matter in this Hyrule. Not only do they matter but they coexist in a way that is pure chemistry. A light rain while climbing a sheer mountain face, or even pulling out an explosive arrow next to open fire, mistakes that you wouldn't naturally consider in a Zelda title, now dangers that are all too real for Link.

    The fighting mechanics in Breath of the Wild are exquisite. Each weapon that you’ll find throughout your adventure will have a mortality rate, so swing, slash, shoot, and bash wisely. Original Zelda weapons such as the bow, bombs, and the boomerang, make a much-welcomed reappearance. However, the new functions of these weapons are anything but classic. Bombs come in two separate shapes along with being unlimited. As for the bow, the Switch platform has the option to use the gyration within the controller to help with precise aiming; and the result is a surprisingly accurate and satisfying long range gameplay. Which leads us to the boomerang, I can't get enough of this weapon. Players no longer have the luxury of carelessly throwing their boomerang with the unquestionable certainty of its return. Rewarding and incredibly pleasing to use, it is now the player's responsibility to ensure a clear path of trajectory as well as timing the catch, making the boomerang more of a specialty weapon.

    As soon as the player gets thrown into this new and hostile Hyrule, we are presented with the quest to "Destroy Gannon.". A task that at the time seems to be an impossible one, you, garbed in worn down cloth while wielding a tree branch in place of a sword. The game is about preparation for that climatic moment, and depending on how prepared you are, will be the outcome for the difficulty of the task at hand. Gannon's castle sits almost constantly in your peripheral as the lingering reminder of what's to come.

    Exploration plays a huge role in Breath of the Wild. Scaling any mountain in sight never gets old with the game's precise and consistent climbing mechanics. Finding locations to paraglide in itself is a fun way to spend your time in Hyrule. Between these two features, it's clear that the game developers were confident about players exploring each nook and cranny of this world, in fact, they encouraged it. After a short time of looking around at Hyrule’s magnificently vast and detailed landscapes, you will quickly understand why. Stories are told without words when you stroll upon a sweeping meadow occupied by a terrifying amount of dormant vegetation engulfed Guardians. Frozen in time, they rest peacefully in this graveyard of twisted metal. You may find yourself curiously scavenging for ancient parts from decrepit machines and wondering what could have caused this devastation. It’s moments like this, which make Zelda: Breath of the Wild such a powerful work of art and a delight to play.

    The Zelda franchise is finally capable of being what our imaginations let us believe it was, over 30 years ago. From the controls, all the way to the musical scores, each aspect that comprises this game perfectly compliments the next. For these reasons, it is close to; if not a masterpiece. What captivated me most about this latest Zelda entry was its expectation of my intuitiveness. Never have I played a game that respected my use of logic and reasoning in such a way to make dull moments during playtime, few to nonexistent. Breath of the Wild doesn't attempt to embody an adventure; it offers a template for a journey and leaves the illustration of Link's epic quest to the player. I met an unexpected sense of responsibility after defeating Gannon.     A long time ago, my Aunt gave my family the original Legend of Zelda for the NES. It was like nothing we'd played before. There was a vast world to explore with little direction. We spent months adventuring in that world and sharing our discoveries with each other (this was long before the spoilers of the internet). Since then there have been a lot of Zelda games and I've finished most of them. They've all had excellent elements...but none of them came close to offering the same sense of wanderlust and exploration. Until now. Breath of the Wild is a return to the series roots with the benefit of modern technology and game design...and somehow it manages to feel as revolutionary as the Legend of Zelda did back on the NES despite the prevalence of open world titles.

    Let me be clear. Breath of the Wild is not a perfect game. There are some performance issues, especially in this the Wii U version, and there are some weak points in the storytelling. But, despite that, it still manages to be one of the best games that I've ever played and will set a standard for decades to come. It's an instant classic that demonstrates what Nintendo can do at their best. One of the most fundamental differences between this game and other open world titles is that it's not about conquest. The vast open world isn't there for you to conquer. It's there for you to explore. Most loot is expendable. Enemies reincarnate. But with 120 shrines and 900 seeds to find, there's always something you missed another each corner...even if it's just the scenery. The inclusion of the stamina bar - which I loved in Skyward Sword - makes getting from here to there across the varied terrain a fun challenge rather than a boring march. It put the joy back in travel. It's an open world title that is full of life (many settlements, towns, wanderers, and wildlife). And, unlike most previous Zelda titles, Breath of the Wild goes back to the NES era in regards to difficulty - you'll find little handholding here. It's challenging but in a fun way. The combat reminds me of the Witcher, even fully equipped you need to prepare for most fights and approach them strategically.

    In general, the game ran well on the Wii U. It takes time to load...but performs far better than titles like Lego City Undercover and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze (which doesn't make any sense). Compared to Xenoblade Chronicles X, another vast open world title, it manages similarly robust technical performance. There are slowdowns in towns, during particularly complicated fights, and some weather (lighting storms in certain locations) but none of this distracted from the game. I haven't played the Switch version but I've read that the Wii U version has one plus - the shrines load slightly faster, good for you speedrunners out there. My only real gripe is that the Wii U specific functionality was cut from the game. After Windwaker HD and Twilight Princess HD, it took some time to get use to no inventory management or minimap on the gamepad. The game was clearly built with a second screen in mind only to have it removed late in development. A shame to limit Wii U version in such a way.

    In any case, I finally finished the main quest and am enjoying exploring Hyrule. There are still so many secrets, fun locations, and sidequests to discover. I'm looking forward to the DLC and seeing the games that this inspires down the road. This is the Zelda game that I've been wanting since the NES era and I hope that we'll see more in this vein now.    … Expand

    Though there are no traditional dungeons that I have found so far, the shrines are a mini-type dungeon which usually involve solving a small puzzle or two, maybe a little combat, then you receive a reward, though I would argue sometimes even getting to a shrine is a puzzle in itself and finding the shrine for a fast travel marker is reward enough.
    I love that I constantly have to scour the wild for new weapons, bows, and ingredients. Cooking is fun and absolutely necessary to keep your hearts up on your sojourn. The few towns that I have visited are full of life, and the people have a lot of different dialog depending on where they are, the weather, what you're holding, etc. Some side quests are only given under certain circumstances. The enemies are smart and difficult, especially if you have poor weapons and armor, which you will in the first few hours of exploring.
    The graphics are glorious, not realistic, but the art style is fun and colorful. animations are cool. The music is great, a little minimalist, but still with emotion and catchy tunes when you open chests, receive new items, enemies abound, the weather changes etc. Subtle and moving.
    I will address all the negative user reviews, and point out that 99% of them have not reviewed any other games, yet give breath of the Wild a zero. Some even say in their review that this game deserves a 7 or 8, yet still give it a zero. My hypothesis is most of the negative reviews are submitted by non-gamers, "fan-boys"(which I despise using that term, more like "imbeciles with blind hatred to an opposing brand name" I will not rant about it) or people who do not want the user ratings of the game to be high, so gave it a zero just to lower the average. This game in my opinion deserves the rating I give it. It brings back a childhood wonder of playing a video game and exploring that I have not felt in over a decade. I am constantly finding new ways to approach things in the game, discovering secrets and shortcuts, and genuinely loving the game. Even my wife, who is not a gamer at all, can't put it down. This game is highly acclaimed by critics for a reason, so take the user reviews with a shaker of salt.    … Expand

    - Weapon's break too quickly. I don't mind weapon durability, but most of my weapons seem to break in a few swings.
    - Shrines get very tiring after completing 40 - 60 of them.
    - Only 5-6 types of enemies/ mobs
    - The only reason this game is hard is because enemies can one shot you.
    - Music is not as good as the previous Zelda games.

Or if I have to run if I have no weapons. I also like how every weapon does a different amount of damage. Almost everything in this game is climbable. Ranging from tall mountains, small rocks, and especially large enemies. You can also tame not only horses, but you can tame other animals as well.

    Breath of The Wild is a landmark game not only for Nintendo, but for all of gaming. With it's gorgeous graphics, great gameplay, and large open world, you'll want to take days off of work for this game.    … Expand

No open world/sandbox game even comes close to this one in terms of its exploration. The world around you feels both alive and yet dead at the same time, giving a real sense of depth to the events the games tells you about through it's story that lead to Hyrule being in it's current state. The characters are all wonderful and filled with personality and the weapon durability system is fine, despite what many have said.

    There's plenty to discover and do in this game and along the way you're accompanied by a very ambient soundtrack that isn't too intrusive or out of place, but definitely isn't like the music you remember from older Zelda games. There are very few big dungeons but there are 120 small shrines, which are each a puzzle of their own. Every area of breath of the wild feels different from the scorching hot Gerudo desert to the extremely cold and snowy tundra. Each area has its own positives and negatives, with certain enemies native to certain regions and the cold and hot both being able to damage link at there most extreme.

    It took me 150+ hours to do everything this game had to offer, which I would say was more than enough for this kind of game. Not a single second of that time I consider wasted. I feel like this game provides everything necessary for a full fledged Zelda experience in an open world.

You can hunt for Korak seeds, battle guardians to collect rare materials, or upgrade your clothing and armor in various different ways.

    The beautiful stylized graphics really help this vibrant world pop and set itself apart from other open world adventure games.All the enemies have a unique design and are color coded to help determine the difficulty. Red enemies are typically easy while silver variations are difficult but chock full of goodies as a reward for defeating them. You can easily climb up this enemy food chain by defeating them and stealing their weapons and become a powerhouse.

    The combat is very fleshed out as well. Bows and arrows, swords, bombs, special abilities gained from taming the divine beasts, and even your shields can be used as weapons to deflect enemy projectiles. The targeting is great and never locks on to enemies you don't want them to. Many enemies have their own unique way of battling them. It's not just charge in and mash the attack button. You'll get killed if you do that!

    The amount of variety, content, and detail in this game is incredible. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (as of now) definitely deserves to be game of the year!    … Expand

    In just one month and with a full time Job i managed to put well over 135 hours into this game, I'm not even close to being done with the game and i don't want to be because this game is so so good, I'd recommend it to new/old, casual and hard core gamers alike.     If i have to pick up some disadvantage of this game. I would said this game lack of enemies type, i almost feel there is only bokolins and ancient machine in this game.
    The FPS is not a big deal for me.

My only complaint is the lack of dungeons, i wish it was set up like OoT. Having four total, if you want to include hyrule castle then five.     the fact that the game was originally being developed for this console makes me think that the only reason to not make use of the wii u gamepad is to not make it look better than the switch version.
    also, voice acting being only 1% of the dialogues is a let down.
    besides this, it's a very good game. not perfect but way above the average of recent releases.

Also, I like the story, but unless you get every memory you will not understand it, my recommendation is to find every memory first, and then go fight Ganon.     How many Easter eggs, and throwbacks the game has. For example the thre dragons that you can find in the game, the ruins of famous places, and many other things.
    Other thing that I found great is how realistic the horses are, and the vatiety of them, how each horse has different attributes, I can see that they've put a lot of effort in making the horses look realistic.
    All the tedious thing that you have to do to complete the game 100%, collecting the 900 korok seed, or Finding all the hidden shrines, and taking a a picture of everything for example.

    What I don't like that much is that there are some creatures that are much harder to kill than ganon, for example the lynels, also I don't like that much how fast weapons break, like literally, with 10 swing almost any weapon breaks, other think that id didn't like at all, like not even a little is what happens after you defeat ganon, and no, I'm not talking of going back to the entrance, I'm talking about the story after you defeat him, also, I HATE that there is no after story (yeah, I know that many games don't have one, but they could have changed that). What I would do is add an after story where you can live with the princess, or find something to revive everyone, or a mission to help build the hyrule castle back or at least see the caste cleaned and beatiful, and last but nor least, the creatures may be tough at first, but then they are to easy

    This is my new favorite Zelda game. It brings me back to my childhood of playing outside and exploring the forests, streams, and even climbing trees and picking up bugs.     By my own estimation I'm about 10-12 hours into this game and I absolutely love it! I see a lot of these Zelda traditionalists complaining:

    To those "traditionalists" I scoff at thee! From the very beginning, the game seems to say, "here's your sandbox, go crazy!" I feel a lot of that feeling I got when playing through Skyrim for the first time. That sheer sense of wonder and awe that the world was this expansive and chock full of stuff to collect. The combat takes some getting used to since the enemies are actually tough and the combat isn't as formulaic as in past Zelda games. Weapons can, and will break and certain enemies are capable of destroying you if you aren't careful. Even a low level Bokoblin can pose a threat if you aren't careful, that is if you don't have any sort of armor, or food to buff your stats. Speaking of food, you have to gather every ingredient you can find, because you never know what might combine to give you that diamond in the rough. The best part is, this is nothing like any open world game I've ever played. In others (Far Cry 4, GTA 5 etc.), it felt like you had the power, you owned the world. Nothing was too great a challenge because you were just too overpowered. Or in others, (the Phantom Pain) it was open, but there was no reason for it to be. That world was simply very bland. With this you are at the mercy of your environment, not the other way around. Frame rate hiccups and other problems (like a lot of these low scoring reviews) are nitpicky Overall, based on my short time with it, this is already one of my favorite games of all time! Play this on Wii U because there's no reason to spend $300+ just to play one major title. This is Nintendo's last hurrah on the Wii U, and without any doubt its best!    … Expand

In other words, the game doesn't hold your hand. It gives you what you need to win and tells you, "figure it out or die." That makes the combat challenging, but not impossibly difficult. Nintendo wasn't interested in coddling its fanbase, and the combat shows it.

    I'm not going to pretend the story is anything "inspired." It's relatively simple, but the (mostly) great voice acting and the dialogue bring the main characters to life and tell the story in a perfectly adequate way. But the main focus of this game was not meant to be the story, which is obvious by how much effort they put into the open world.

    No matter where you are on the map, there is always SOMETHING to do, whether it's fighting an enemy, clearing a shrine, finding a Korok, or shooting pieces off of a flying dragon. The developers ensured that they made use of every bit of that open space, which ensures players are never bored.

    Which brings me to my next point. The open world is absolutely gorgeous. The colors are vibrant where they need to be and equally dull when the situation calls for it. The designs of the important characters (Link, Zelda, the Champions, the Great Fairies, etc.) are each unique enough to make them stand out in our minds.

    If I did have one gripe about this game, it would be how emotionless Link seems to be in most cases. Awful things are happening all around him, but he hardly seems concerned. And if this were like the other Zelda games, this wouldn't be a problem, but there is full-fledged voice acting in the cut scenes. That makes the emotion of the other characters come out, which, in turn, makes Link's trademark silence stand out a lot more than it normally does. But that's more of a nitpick than anything.

    Overall, I haven't been able to find a single thing wrong with this game, so it gets a 10/10 from me. Believe the hype. This game is amazing.    … Expand

In FC, skyrim and horizon, you have loads of unlockable side quests but the main quest is still linear. In breath of the wild you can run straight up to the main boss in your underpants, if you please. Alot of complaints are about the "emptiness" of the world. There is no emptiness in the overworld. There are 120 shrines to find and 900 koroks, well hidden throughout the map. And besides that, you can always find resources for elixirs in the tall grass. Critters like hightail lizards and restless crickets. Or even chop some wood or farm some wheat or rice. Mine some ores and gems. Clear enemy camps for treasure. It's riddled with things to discover.

    The durability system is somewhat irritating to start, but quickly becomes a nuisance. Enemies always drop weapons, you learn where to find the good ones *cough*sheikahsensor*cough* + the legendary blade.

    It's not a perfect game. There is none in existence. I'm not saying you should buy a switch just for this game if you're not THAT into zelda or open world/non linear games. BUT I will highly recommend this game to people who have already bought a wii u or a switch. And maybe to people who have a 200$/€ to spare for a wii u and zelda. I understand that the rain is for the immersivity, and the Blood Moon is to give a challenge, but when it rains you can't climb a damn thing, which you kind of need to climb a lot in the game, and if a blood moon shows up have fun trying to get anywhere. Eight, the ragdoll physics feature would be cool if every time you hit a enemy they didn't fly 5 damn feet away from you. I could go on and on, but I'm just going to stop here. I know they wanted to make the game more challenging, but all they did was make a lot of the game's features annoying. The game would be good if it wasn't an annoying laggy mess.

    TL,DR Version: If you're going to buy it, buy the Wii U version. The Switch version is lag fest. And also if you're going to buy it, be prepared to get very annoyed having all your new weapons break in under 2 minutes of use, and a lot, lot and I mean LOT of traveling in a straight line to very far away objective points on a map too big for it's own good." -Quail, My good friend.

What was good about the dungeon system in the older Zelda system was that all the puzzles and rooms made up the dungeon so that it was all in one spot. The dungeons in this one are all short and uninteresting. The mechanics for puzzles is over simplified with much less tools then in older games.
    Combat is interesting in how unbalanced it is. Many enemies will one shot so that extra hearts have little impact. Weapons break in several uses and as a result most enemy's are not worth fighting. Using limited weapons to get more weapons that are limited is a waste of time and is more often than not unnecessary. I also seemed to run out of arrows often.
    This game would be great if the shrines did not involve looking around for so long. The Ubisoft type towers should show where they are. The combat system could use some more polish. Older Zelda's had better dodging and blocking mechanics that were missed. This game didn't leave a lasting impression on me like other Zeldas have.

    Its unfortunate that big game reviewers have to give high scores to big budget games or they will lose funding or get boycotted by Fanboys.    … Expand

    Story: I know after doing research that Zelda games follow a similar story format, but this one was done with a unique twist that I thought was very creative. I loved the mystery behind what happened to Zelda and especially love the Memory quest. This quest unlocks specific memories relevant to the story, while also nudging you into more of an exploratory mode. 10/10

    Music/Sound: The music fits very well with the landscape of the game, with vast periods of openness complemented by a more empty score. However, I have always loved LoZ's music (Being a composer and studying the scores) and this score lacks the amount of memorable themes of titles past. It is understandable given the nature of the game, though, and complements the game quite well. Voice acting is wonderful as well, with interesting dialogue for many of the main characters that don't bog you down with tons of verbose lines (Looking at you Witcher 3) Most of the sound effects are wonderful in the game as well, though there could be a little more variation in Link's climbing and attacking sounds. Overall an above average sound package! 8.5/10

    Art style/Graphics: I love the art style in this game. Beautifully done in every aspect. The landscapes are what shine the most in this game. Everywhere you look is not only unique to its area, but exquisitely beautiful. Characters have a beautiful style to them as well. Not quite fully cartoon, but definitely not realistic looking. I love the environments, and often spend several minutes admiring the beauty. 10/10

    Gameplay: Very smooth for me. I haven't had too many issues with FPS drops, and the new patch should fix any lingering ones. The rune system is very intelligently done with uses not only in the shrines, but throughout the world. Speaking of shrines, I never feel they are too repetitive, and while puzzles usually aren't my favorite thing, I never get frustrated with them! Climbing and paragliding are two amazing features I wish could be available in all future open world games. They make the game feel a lot more accessible and immersive. Not having to jump glitch everywhere is wonderful. I also like the overall immersion of the game. Having to wear warm weather gear or cold weather gear or even swimming/climbing gear, really makes you rethink strategies! Cooking is cool and wields very rewarding results too! Weapon durability is not a problem for me, as it teaches you to strategize what weapons you use and when you use them. If I had any complaints it would be the relatively low amount of variety in monsters (compared to a game like Witcher 3). Overall, I thin the gameplay inhibits players from mindlessly playing the game, which I think is a great thing! 10/10

    Overall: 38.5/40 (96.25)

    This game has moved into the top of my favorite games list, through excellent gameplay, graphics, and story/immersion. It is not one of my favorite video game scores, but still very well done!     Well, to get started, The game has almost no interior locations. Yeah, it's got houses, Shrines, Hyrule Castle is indoors, but, think about Skyrim (A game I have played a lot of, so my opinions count here. Also, Skyrim's execution isn't perfect, either, but that doesn't mean botw couldn't do it better), in Skyrim there's a bunch of ancient tombs, full of monsters, and one time, I was wondering through an abandoned prison, where I found out how the prisinors escaped, which was how I got out myself, and there's much more interesting interiors, more Castles, taverns shops, blacksmiths, which you can use to make your own weapons, which is one of my favourite parts of that game. But enough about that, this ain't a Skyrim review, but I wanted to make my point about interior locations, and how BOTW didn't have enough.

    Now for somethings I like: This game is BEAUTIFUL, one of the best looking games I've ever seen. Just the way the lovely enemy designs, the beautiful cosy-looking houses, it just looks amazing.
    And the game's story is lovely. Not AMAZING, but very well done. I loved the voice acting, if a bit stale sometimes, the characters were great, all different, with their own personalities, which makes every divine beast a treat! Not because the dungeons are amazing, (But will come to that later) but because the characters are great, and I enjoyed meeting all of them. Maybe except for the Zora, but yeah, all great.

    One thing I talked about was the graphics, which are good, but cause a lot of fps drops, on Wii U, which I heard they patched out, but I haven't tested that yet, so just thought I would mention that, even though I don't care about fps drops, for some people they might be a game breaker, so yeah

    Also, it feels like a lot of the travel feels empty. Whenever I'm going somewhere in other open world games, what would normally take me 10 mins+ of travelling, takes me HOURS, because I'm always finding new, interesting things. Dungeons with interesting, enchanted weapons, small settlements, Dragons, (In Skyrims case) and so many other things. Like, one time I'm playing morrowind, and I see a lady by the road, who was just robbed, but fell in love with the highwayman, and you have to go find him, and tell him, and tha's just really cool. But I didn't see anything like that in Botw. I didn't get sidetracked, because yeah, Shrines are cool, but, I just talk to Beedle, get some Hearty Lizards, cook em up, and bang, +8 hearts, on top of my 10, so that keeps me ok. For instance, I beat Ganon, and at the time I had 15 hearts, but I just cooked some hearty foods, instead of waste my time with shrines, which aren't even that fun. Sorry but I just found them too easy once I put 10 hours into the game, so I saw them as a waste of time. So BOTW has a lack of things to sidetrack me, to get lost in, to spend hours doing things I didn't even plan, and that's just not good open world design to me. Sorry, but it isn't.

    Also, the music is *good*, but not very memorable. I used to be able to remember a bunch of songs from other zelda games, and just other games in general. I do LIKE the music, it's just feels more made for ambience, and just not as grand as the previous games. So, yeah, that's there, and that's just more opinion based on what music you like.

    I feel like the weapon system is a bit pointless, because it isn't even that hard to get good weapons, so the weapons breaking that fast, is just pontless. You could make really cool weapons last longer, so that if you find a great flameblade, it doesn't break in 20 hits, and then you could make common weapons, like Boko clubs, Soldiers Swords, and other weapons that to under a certain amount of damage break faster, because they're more common. And doing that would make the whole system better, so that you HAVE to save your good weapons for more difficult encounters. (So the whole complaint about brittle weapons would be solved this way, too)

    And that's about the end, hope you found this interesting. I would continue but I've typed 4500 characters, so that's the end of this review. So......

    Fun game very nice, I would go over more positives, but there isn't enough space, so, if you are thinking of getting it, and my points don't fase you, buy this now. But, if my points make sense to you, I would wait and look into it a bit more. (after all, it's like 50 pounds, so, lotsa money)

    Also, I have beaten this game, I haven't put in 100's of hours, but I have played it, done 60+ shrines, and a good bit of side things. And I have but a lot of hours TES games    … Expand

This is an amazing copy of the game and, with full DLC support down the road, I'd call it the sole reason not to buy the Switch, IF you already own a Wii U for now. I won't bore you with all the details other then that it's amazing. It's like Nintendo took the base of Ocarina of Time and modernize it to make it look like this game over here. This is why Nintendo will forever remain in my heart no matter where it all goes. I'm telling you this, Breath of the Wild hasBreath of the Wild broke a lot of records in the history of gaming. By that, I mean it is most likely impossible to find one thing wrong with this game.     The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an absolute joy to play as it's an undeniably rewarding adventure set in a deeply immersive world. Although the experience is weighed down by a few minor problems, the overall journey is one that no gamer will soon forget.

    Breath of the Wild can’t be compared to the likes of The Witcher 3 or Skyrim because it’s not trying to be those games -- it’s a Nintendo game -- and series -- all grown up. It has a lot to offer and will keep you engaged for lengthy periods of time. If you’re playing on Switch as you absolutely should be, then you can also Zelda wherever you go. It’s arguably not the best Zelda game, but damn, it might be the most polished, and the most ambitious.

    Does it have the best combat system in the world? No. Is it the best looking game out there? No. Does it have the best RPG soundtrack ever? No. Can the game make you feel like you are eight years old again? Hell yes. It certainly had that effect with me. It has been a long time since exploring, fighting, and adventuring has so consistently brought a smile to my face. Breath of the Wild is such a wonderful experience that once you play it, you will likely never look at open world games the same again.
