    This game is so amazing. It has a fun and enjoyable story mode, an addictive multiplayer, and many unlockables to keep you playing for a while. This game is definitely one of my favourites of the year. I highly recommend you buy it, it is a must-have on the wii u.

    Great game, very different from conventional shot games. And with charismatic characters in a whole new universe. All accompanied by a very frantic gameplay.
    The local campaign is a bit simple, but accompanied by some excellent bosses at the end of each stage, which will put even to seek their devils points.

    Great game, a lot of colors! For a non FPS player, it's really fun. Objective based gameplay. Kills help but it's not the main goal! Customization of you squid is fun, and the single player campaign is done really good!

    To all the people who don't like this game because of the missing voice chat: Nintendo didn't build in a voice chat because they didn't wanted and they don't want that the players offend each other. So please stop hating this game because of that.

    One of the best games in recent history, proof that there is always room to innovate in an industry where everything seems already done, and overdone, a must have for any Wii U owner and a reason to buy a Wii U (I did).

    The campaign is short (about 5-6 hours) but sweet with one of the best gameplay-wise final bosses IMO of all time, clever mechanics and beautiful level and character    One of the best games in recent history, proof that there is always room to innovate in an industry where everything seems already done, and overdone, a must have for any Wii U owner and a reason to buy a Wii U (I did).

    The multiplayer is just amazingly fun, you can play over and over just for fun or on a more competitive level with great dept.

    Some may argue the content seems "lacking" but there is a good reason for that, Nintendo is steadily releasing new content (maps, weapons, events) every now and then to keep the game fresh, Also there is no game in game voice chat, but there is really no need for that.

    If you want a great meaningful story you won't find that in Splatoon, but if you want cleverly fun mechanics, wacky characters, and lag free, fun, competitive multiplayer this game is for you.    … Expand

    Extremely addictive gameplay, you can pass hours on the online mode, great to see this game, maybe yhe game came with few characteristics, but every week we are seeing new weapons, accesories and stages.

    This game is amazing!!!!!!! Its one of the best games I've ever played. Its really addicting. The online multiplayer is amazing,but its even got a single player mode that's awesome!!!!!!!!

    One of the best online multiplayers to date. Reinventive, and makes you tilt and turn the controller on other consoles/shooters to get that perfect aim.

    Splatoon is nintendos best game ever and you know what it might save the wii u it's the best shooter ever because it's not that hard to get used to and easy to get at least decent at it and if you want to get into shooters try to start at splatoon

Auch die Auswahl zwischen Standardkampf und Rangkampf finde ich persönlich als ziemlich gut. Was mich beeindruckt ist, dass man diesem Spiel auch einen Funken "Jugendslang" verpasst hat. Am besten an diesem Game ist allerdings, dass ständig neuer Content (Waffen, Stages, Onlinemodi) hinzugefügt wird, damit hält man das Spiel ständig auf trapp. Auch die Splatfeste finde ich eine ziemlich epische Idee. Einziger Kritikpunkt: Die Disconects. Aber dieses ist meckern auf höchstem Niveau.
    Zusammengefasst ist Splatoon ein brilliantes Spiel von Nintendo, die mit ihrem ersten kreativen Shooter meine Welt begeistert haben. Für mich ein ganz klarer Must-have als Wii U Besitzer.    … Expand

    Splatoon is gaming at it's best: It dares to be different, it doesn;t try to hard to make sense, it gives the middle finger to realism and focuses solely on pure fun.
    The online works almost flawlessly and wait times are very tolerable.
    Reviewing this 2 months after release it is safe to say Nintendo made good on their promise to release more content and releases of new levels and weapons continues to flow. Splatfests, occasional competitive events are a hoot too.    … Expand

    Splatoon has totally revolutionized the shooter genre, with it's amazing paint based mechanics, and has delivered a knockout blow to the endless stream of cookie-cutter, rehashed games appearing on the other consoles.

    This is hands down the best game of the year. If you own a Wii U, you MUST own this game.

    When this game was announced I had a feeling I was going to enjoy it. But once I actually tried it, I was blown away. It looks amazing, plays great, and the multiplayer often becomes HIGHLY competitive (in a great way). This is, in my opinion, THE shooter (that isn't quite simply a shooter) to own on the Wii U!

    This is just AMAZING. This game is a fantastic online competitive third person shooter, what else can I say? I didn't saw this coming Nintendo, I was one of the "mah, this looks like an indie"... Well, I was so wrong! This game is, as I was saying at the beginning, Amazing.

    Que Call Of Duty ni que nada, este juego es colorido y divertido, nada de muertes, sólo hay que conquistar territorio, por lo que es más desafiante a que mates. Colorido y Divertido, perfecto para Niños... debería ser para los Niños Rata, es un juego para su edad, no Call Of Duty y esos juegos muy violentos y sangrientos, Splatoon, para Niños porque si.

    Splatoon is here and my goodness this game is amazing. You choose your gender, skin tone and eye color and then your ready to play (after a quick tutorial). You can go into Multiplayer straight away or try out the story mode. Very short but fun and gives weapon and gear unlocks. Multiplayer is where this game shines, After the very recent update we have over 10 stages 30 weapons and tonsSplatoon is here and my goodness this game is amazing. The maps are all enjoyable and offer fun fights my favorites being blackbelly skatepark, arowana Mall and Moray towers. The gear is fun to wear and give some great bonuses. Splatfests are another fun event, pick a side ( for example dogs vs cats) and do turf wars in the beautiful spaltoon world at night. The update also increased the level cap and added party matchmaking with up to 4 and private matches up to 8. The weapons feel balanced and the game is overall one of the best games Nintendo has ever made… Expand

    A: Music/Sounds Splatoon has some really nice music in it. Possibly even better than the Legend of Zelda series. Pretty much the society in the game is based around music. It is really strange, yet they pull it off brilliantly. The music is    Possibly the game that defines the Wii-U. Goofy, yet fun, cartoony yet beautiful. Nintendo, you've done it again! Let's break it down, shall we?

    A: Music/Sounds

    Splatoon has some really nice music in it. Possibly even better than the Legend of Zelda series. Pretty much the society in the game is based around music. It is really strange, yet they pull it off brilliantly. The music is so catchy, that I have caught myself humming to the tune all of the time. The sounds are amazing as well, but the music is absolutely astounding in this game.

    10/10 WITH my Thumbs Up of Approval

    B: Graphics

    The graphics in this game are actually quite simple, but they are so polished that you can't help but stare. Even the landscape in the game looks better than some modern PS4 games, and the PS4 is more powerful than the Wii-U. The graphics aren't realistic, but they aren't supposed to be. Even the unique patterns of the Ink Splatter really stood out to me in this game.

    C: Gameplay

    The gameplay and controls in this game are actually really well done, and definitely utilises the gamepad. If you are to play Online, you have to cover up as much ground as possible in the time limit. If your team has covered up more ground in the time, you win. Kills do not count, but they are useful as it can prevent the other players from covering up ground. You can shoot ink onto the ground, then actually turn into a Squid to hide from other players, easier transportation, go through girders, and fill up your ink bar. The battling system is easily much more fun than most realistic shooters - and stands out in the spotlight. There's even a huge variety of weapons that have unique stats and abilities, and can really make gameplay change. Even exploring the hub town of Inkopolis is fun, as you can meet suspicious characters and see what other people have been doing via miiverse. Every once in a while, they even have a thing called 'Splatfest'. This is where there are 2 options, and players get to vote between one of the two. For Example: Which is better, Zombies or Ghosts? - This is just one of the many little touches that makes this game worth getting.

    D: Online

    This is where the game truly stands out. The online community for this game is massive, and is thriving no matter what time of the day it is. It is extremely easy to get a match up and running, and you can even play a minigame while you wait for people to join! Pretty much 90% of this game relies on Online, so besides the Story Mode, I can't really think of anything that isn't online. Playing online is extremely fun, but after a couple of matches, it can get a little boring. There aren't too many gamemodes, but I'm sure that with DLC and updates, it can easily be fixed (As they have already started doing, by the way).

    9/10 WITH my Thumbs Up of Approval

    Now that we have broken down pretty much everything of the game (Except for Story, I didn't finish that) I can come to my conclusion. Splatoon is an amazing game that relies pretty much fully on Online. If you aren't able to connect to the internet, the game isn't much to look at besides the story mode. But if you can join Online, this game is possibly the best for the Wii-U. So, my overall rating - the second highest I can possibly offer...

    10/10 WITH my 2015 GOTY Award AND Wii-U Definitive Game Award!    … Expand

Pretty much every issue besides voice chat has been fixed. The only issue you could have with the game is that you can't select a specific game mode besides turf war.     One of the best multiplayer games of all time. Extremely addictive and fun, me and my buddy seriously can't put our controllers down and we have been playing for months already. A fresh new game in an oversaturated genre, this game should be played by all.

    Such a breathe of fresh air. As a fan or Nintendo's, I normally have to resort to PC or PS4 for competitive online fun. This game is so fun! A must have for any Wii U owner, and maybe the tipping point for those who have debated on purchasing a Wii U.

    Best family friendly shooter of all time. If you are looking for a way to bond with your teens and kids as a family, this is the game for you. Honestly, who needs family therapy when you have Splatoon! Laughs and fun for everyone. Gameplay is PERFECT.

    It won best shooter/multiplayer game of 2015 for very good reason. Campaign: Mario galaxy with guns and has epic boss battles. Multiplayer: Just insanely addictive. Also with tight excellent gameplay this is a must own game

    Almost 150h playing since it comes talk for itself, an incredible, fast and very agile controls set the new style on how to play a shooter (the two stick stile is in the stone age compared to the super agile gyroscope stile...), this title is like heroin made videogame, absolute adictive and tremendous fun, it goes straigh to your throath.

At first this game was about a 92-94, but nintendo showed ho dedicated they were in making this a phenomenal experienceA 10/10 is very hard for me to give out, and I wanted to give it to either Splatoon or Super Mario Maker, both are great games, but I enjoyed playing Splatoon more then any other game this year. This game is nintendo's biggest surprise and creative title in a long while. At first this game was about a 92-94, but nintendo showed ho dedicated they were in making this a phenomenal experience for everyone to play. Almost every time i've logged into a splatoon, there has been a new update, such as a new gun, a new bomb, a new map, or something else fun to play with. This game never seems to end, with new content coming out every week or so, and this gave the game a 96 to 97. The community of splatoon is very unique, very friendly and quirky, and makes the game that much greater. Things like splatfeast and other events splatoon provides to meet other splatoon players and have a fun time, makes the game a very fun community experience. The graphics are very fresh, the designs of the characters are very creative, everything in this game feels and looks so original and unique, you can't help but love it. The gameplay itself is unlike any other game. It's a shooter, just like call of duty or battlefield, but makes it unlike any other. Seriously, who else would of thought to make guns of full of ink, full out territory wars using squirds as soldiers instead of men with rifles. This is a very fun game, and is unlike any other game you've played before and it needs your attention just like many other games on the wii u that go unnoticed… Expand

    Es un juego novedoso y extremadamente divertido y adictivo, no puedes parar de jugar. Lo mejor es que, apesar de ser juego de disparos, no tienes que matar para ganar, sino pintar a diestra y siniestra para ganar la partida. Lo recomiendo muchísimo.

Not only do we get new weapons from updates every couple of weeks (that just recently stopped), but also Splatfest that entice players to never stop splatting. The motion controls, while they would be a bit of a red flag to people, are very well implemented and extremely responsive but if you still don't enjoy them can be turned off. My only complaint is more of a nitpick, but the single player stuff in the game is very underwhelming as the story mode last around 4 to 6 hours and the local multiplayer I half the time forget about. As the core focus of the game is multiplayer though, it's good to see the devs were able to focus on that main aspect. Multiplayer is also a ton of fun with four modes to play and a ton of maps. The regular battle mode Turf War is short, simple, and can be played whenever. The other three modes Splat Zones, Tower Control, and Rainmaker, can be played in ranked depending on which are chosen. The few problems with multiplayer are a lack of voice chat between friends and the choice to choose which modes and maps you play on. Those are set on a four hour rotation and if you don't get the maps or mode you care for then the only thing to do is wait, which can be annoying. Voice chat not being in the game makes sense since it is meant for children, but talking between friends would make sense as games like Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros Wii U have been able to do this. In the end, with the constant free updates of new weapons and maps to boot, Splatoon is an enjoyable experience just built around pure fun. It is easily one of my favorite games of this year and a must buy if you have a Wii U. And just cause it seems mandatory, TL;DR Splatoon is good. Go play it.… Expand

    The 4 vs 4 feels right for the size of the scenarios, and 3 minutes is right. If you want to have it more strategic, and more play time (usually), competitive mode becomes a must to play, where you find all the fun on this game. The variety of weapons is HUGE and still increasing over time, and the amount of scenarios finally reached a decent amount by the time I wrote this review. Definitely a game you must get if you own a WiiU, and I hope that this gets a sequel on WiiU (with an online mode that allow two persons in a same console to join a match in split-screen)    … Expand

    At first I was skeptical about this game, but first demo test fire event convinced me how good this game is. I've completed all the missions and have all the weapons and gear, but that doesn't diminish my enjoyment. Bought it on 1st day and I'm still playing it. That's how good this game is.

    This game is a real turn for the shooter franchise. It let's nintendo use the shooter name into a PG material. It's colourful, vibrate, and has great modes. The single-player is clever and the online worked to a extent.

Instead, I'll boot it up once a week or so, be excited when I see new content and enjoy playing the most fun shooter that I've played since Golden Eye.

    And don't think that I only enjoy this because I'm a casual gamer. I've played video games for over 25 years at this point - sometimes addicted, sometimes casually, sometimes with absolute wonder at graphical improvements and total immersion. This game isn't Earth-shattering. I wont explain the concept of splatoon since you can easily find a trailer or video review that will do that better than me, but I will say that the game does everything it tries to do extremely well. The weapons are surprisingly well balanced, and even with only a handful of maps and 2 multiplayer modes every game feels fresh.

    In    New IP from Nintendo and they hit it out of the park! I wont explain the concept of splatoon since you can easily find a trailer or video review that will do that better than me, but I will say that the game does everything it tries to do extremely well. The weapons are surprisingly well balanced, and even with only a handful of maps and 2 multiplayer modes every game feels fresh.

    In multiplayer lobbies fill up fast with 8 players then they get divided randomly into 2 teams. after the match is over the teams are shuffled, dropped players are replaced and you go again. Some people complain about the lack of voice chat, but in this case while i wont argue that voice chat could have been utilized well here, I honestly dont feel like it detracts from the experience. games are fast and maps are pretty tight, if you need to be told what to do, or tell someone else what to do its probably too late already.

    Ranked mode adds a nice refreshing take on king of the hill, its fast and frantic. This mode has more competitive matchmaking with a c- through a+ rating system. you gain more points and experience for winning but unlike in standard turfwar you will often gain no exp and lost ranked points if you are on the losing team. The only exception here is if the time runs out rather than the enemy team winning by holding the objective for 100 seconds.

    Lets talk single player. The single player here is a real unsung hero. The levels are well designed, the story surprisingly deep. The story mode teaches you everything you need to know about the games mechanics to jump into multiplayer, but does so without resorting to putting you in wattered down death matches with enemies. The turf war scenario or splatzone (king of the hill) mechanics are never used once in the single player. It has its own gameplay identity focusing more on movement mechanics, and platforming.

    So some will argue that the game was shipped "incomplete" because nintendo is releasing new content steadily over the summer (and presumably beyond), but honestly the game was solid out of the box. Dont get me wrong it wasnt the most robust experience ever, but Ive paid 60 bucks for way worse games with way more content and much less quality. This game was great out of the box and gets better with every content update.    … Expand

    The basic is that your are a squid/child. Changing forms to reload squid ink. You have a gun that shoots a coloured ink, you can turn into a squid to dive into the ink and reload your ink or you can run around as a child shooting. Squid form also allows you to scale walls providing it is covered with your ink. Sounds odd, it really isn't and immediatly makes sense.

    There are 2 main ways that you can play this game depending on your mood (currently). The first is via the single player mode, take on a variety of missions in puzzle based platforming using the ink in your gun. The second is via online play, Turf War mode the rules are to cover as much of the map as you can with your colour ink, if that means knocking off the opposition to do so then so be it.

    Where Nintendo have been clever is that they have managed to make a family friendly 4 v 4 shooter that isn't violent at all and is just different enough to appeal to the most avid shooter players. Yet again they have done the thing that they always do best, create a likeable character base and create a game that can appeal to almost anyone.

    I have been constantly playing this game since I bought it, over some other huge titles that I have also purchased. I feel that this would be a brilliant game for eSports as well.

    Where it loses a point and this is my only bug at the moment (which may well change) is it needs more maps and maybe a couple more modes as well. As there is an area that says MODE I do reckon that they is an intention to add more, i haven't read too much on it but I would love to see something new in order to keep it fresh.     There are a lot of negative comments about their being a problem with the fact that the WiiU doesn't have a head set so you can struggle without communication. This is apparent but the games are so short, i dont think there is really much need, the concept is so simple I dont think communication would help. The teams are mixed up each round anyway so it would be hard to put anything in place. I just dont think the WiiU is that sort of consoles anyway.

The simple mechanic of spraying ink to coat the floor is extremely fresh and the game exudes personality from every square inch.     Despite the lack of initial content, Splatoon is a killer app level title for the Wii U, once again proving that Nintendo has never exclusively been about Mario and Zelda. Get yourself out there and get this game!    … Expand

I would be doing Splatoon a disservice to call it a shooter as it may on the surface appear as one, it most certainly is its own genre. In true Nintendo fashion Splatoon is simple to play but as time goes on tactics will get exceedingly more advanced. I'm glad Nintendo made this game as it combines the cute style the company isColorful, inventive and, what most shooters today miss, fun. Splatoon does everything it can to show the cold, stagnant winter release lineup that it isn't afraid to splash in its own territory.

    Splatoon isn't without its issues however, there are less options in this game, for instance you can't change weapons mid-game or in the lobby, there also isn't voice chat and there are less maps out right now. Nintendo said they would be dropping more content soon. This issues are minor given how awesome and new this game is. Would highly recommend if you love have a Wii U, and if you are on the fence getting one, this title would should be your tipping point. 9/10    … Expand

    This game really rocks the mechanics, has a fun, enjoyable single player campaign, and has the ability to keep me saying 'one more match... One more match...' For many hours. I'm excited to see more as the game goes on and will be continuing to play this incredibly tight game for many months.

    This game really does find new and ingenious ways to play. Swimming along quickly, steathily, up walls, etc. You can creep up on people, go face on. Whatever you want.

    The attention to detail is sublime, as the ink grabs what moves over it - players, weapons, whatever.

    I love that teams get scrambled each round so that each game is different. The variety of weapons is great. Nothing I have come across yet is overpowered.

    For once it's not about K:D ratio. You win the game by covering the map in paint, not by killing the most.

    There are so many things this game does right, it's just so much fun.

    As for what it does wrong:-

    Can't choose weapons or kit between rounds.
    Should have map selection feature like in Mario Kart 8.
    Needs more game types (coming in a couple of months).

    As for what it does right:-

    Small teams.
    Quick rounds.
    High energy.
    Fast-paced.
    Well-rounded.
    Balanced.
    Easy to pick-up.
    Hard to master.
    Looks great.
    Use of gamepad is excellent (see the map covered in paint, launch to your teammates, etc).
    Focus on the map and environment, not on kills, although kills help your team cover the map in paint.
    Lots of customisation.

The lack of face-to-face interaction generally means I simply don't have as much fun as when I gather friends on my living room to play, for example, extended sessions of Super Smash Bros. What I am big on, however, is great gameplay, and in that regard Splatoon made me a believer. Thirty-five hours in, I'm utterly enthralledI have something to confess: I'm not big on online multiplayer. What I am big on, however, is great gameplay, and in that regard Splatoon made me a believer. Thirty-five hours in, I'm utterly enthralled by its endless stream of addictive three-minute ink-shooting matches, and I'm convinced this new franchise is going to be a massive player in the Nintendo IP roster going forward.

    As you're probably aware, Splatoon is a third person shooter with a focus on online multiplayer matches. When it comes to shooters, however, I don't think there's ever been anything that plays quite like it. You play as inklings, squid-human hybrids that shoot ink instead of bullets, and while you can (and certainly should) shoot opposing players, the focus is on covering the battlefield with ink. It's a genius approach for a couple of reasons: first, because it positions the shooter genre into Nintendo's family-friendly approach in a convincing and utterly addictive way. Secondly, the "shoot the environment" mechanic is a great way to make novice players feel useful even in a highly competitive environment, as it's more about clever strategy than it is about precise aiming.

    Splatoon was launched with only one online multiplayer mode (called "Turf Wars"), but has since gotten several free updates. As I write this, there are two other online modes available, with a few more planned for the next months. At this point, we have already experienced a "Splatfest": an online event that makes players pick sides and battle it out for their team on a big day-long stravaganza. All of this makes the game feel like a living, breathing thing, rewarding early adopters and keeping the hype ball rolling well beyond release. It's a smart strategy that has been compelling me to keep playing.

    Of course, the game also has an offline side: it consists of around thirty levels of inkling war against their hated octoling enemies. The level design is simply astonishing, throwing loads of clever twists on the ink-shooting formula as stages go on. There's an overworld to explore and find new stages, but most of those stages are very linear; some, however, are more open affairs, in which your character has to fight octolings in larger environments much like the online multiplayer modes. It's a mixture that certainly works, even if I'd have preferred more of the latter than the former.

    The single-player mode has another crowning jewel, though: the boss fights. They are five overall, and they're all so entertaining that I got genuinely surprised. When it came to the final boss battle, my expectations were through the roof... yet the game somehow managed to surpass them entirely. I won't spoil anything here, but suffice it to say that it's a lenghty, challenging, and massively fun war against what's probably my favorite character in the entire game. It's probably a bit early to say, but I'm guessing I'll forever look back to it as one of my favorite boss fights of all time.

    There have been criticism thrown at some of the game's quirks, such as the lack of online voice chat (which would be useful to some, even if it's not really my thing) or the poor local multiplayer options (and I fully believe a Goldeneye 007-like four-player split-screen mode could be absolutely fantastic). Taken for what it is, however, Splatoon is nothing short of a rousing success for Nintendo. It's innovative, it's addictive, it's got great graphics and music, and this is why it's probably one of the games people will always bring up in the future whenever talking about the Wii U. If you're on the fence, absolutely give it a shot.

    It's a great shooter with fun mechanics that feels intuitive and fresh! I really think this game deserves a 10, but some issues with the online is making me give it a 9 - disconnects issues. Hopefully it'll change with time! Overall, this game is really fun and that's what matters in the end!

    Absolutely great game with addictive online gameplay and fun single player campaign. Would be perfect with an optional online chat and a simultaneous 2 player online mode, like in MK 8. But hey, that can all be improved in Spla2n! :)

The vibrant colours, the sound of the paint splodging on walls and floors is brilliant. Thank you Nintendo for continuously sticking to your guns and making family fun games.     There’s nothing else quite like it, nor the cathartic dopamine jolt to be had when you squid-skim up a paint-smeared quarter pipe, an Inkzooka at the ready, leap over the edge, take aim with your weapon, and reduce a startled opponent to goo.

    We waited a bit before giving a vote to Splatoon, but after three months, the game is full of new weapons, has some awesome new modes, and it's still really, really fun. It's a WiiU killer app, one of those games that are not only extremely original, but so well made they utterly deserve a big and supporting community. If you have a WiiU and want an atypical shooter, this is the game for you.
