While the ‘shoot-em-up’ genre isn’t new, Shutshimi has managed to take an age-old formula and make it its own.

Shutshimi manages to make a delicious dish out of what could have been a forgettable fish tale. [Issue #20 – March/April 2016, p.21]

While Shutshimi is obviously meant to be a party game, it’s very fun for the solo gamer as well. Once you start learning what items do what, you’ll be able to avoid the ones you dislike and grab the ones you dig. Shushimi is a nice surprise—I highly recommend it.

While the gameplay isn't terribly deep and it gets repetitive in longer sessions, there's plenty here to keep gamers coming back for more. We'd recommend that you pick this game up, it's a great retro shooter with a neat twist.

Shutshimi is a simple and very addictive fast-pace shoot'em up that presents itself in an old school-style and which will strike a chord with enthusiasts of intense scrolling shoot'em ups. So intense, in fact, that its experiences become too short-lived and its lifespan quickly falls behind when played solo, rather than on multiplayer.

He has big muscles, so winning fights is not a problem, but acting fast, before the memory goes off is a must.

The game may resemble classic shooters like Parodius and Cho Aniki, but the action here is fast, you will shoot a little and then back to select and upgrade powerups, and then back to the action.

There are a lot of different enemies, gameplay is smooth, and the bosses are challenging. It looks great on the Wii U controller screen.

The game has local co-op mode, so it’s twice the fun if you invite someone around who was just watching you play. It has that nonsense retro feeling some games have lost or try to have, without success. So, if you like shmups, go and buy it!
