Pokken Tournament is a watered down game with very little content and suffers from virtually the same problems that Street Fighter V does. However, because it's a Nintendo game Nintendo fanboys don't pretend this is a big deal. However, because it's a Nintendo game Nintendo fanboys don't pretend this is a big deal. Maybe it isn't, truly, and maybe other gamers need to quit being so critical of games based on their imperfections and take a note out of the Nintendo fanboy book.

That being said, Pokken Tournament does offer a lot of good things, and it does play in 1080p at 60 frames per second near flawlessly, but the lack of gameplay modes and lack of characters does hurt it a bit. This game is more fun to play with friends than alone. It lacks any real depth in the single player department. It does offer somewhat of an arcade mode, but since that avatars are randomly generated it doesn't offer any real in depth story the way something like Street Fighter IV did.

Overall, it isn't a bad game. It has its flaws, but it it's not a broken disaster. However, it isn't for everyone, and the people most likely to be pleased with this game are hardcore Nintendo and Pokemon fans while hardcore fighting game fans may be turned off to the game due to its lack of depth.

Graphics: 5/10 The graphics aren't very impressive to me. The detail is poor and the color is faded. I expected it to be a very colorful game for being Pokemon. The fighting visuals and effects are great though as I expected.

Gameplay: 10/10 The controls are very fluent for a fighting game and the mechanics are great. There's enough changes in the format of the game to make competitive gameplay amazing. I'm excited to see it a Pokemon Championships.

Characters: 5/10 The Fighting characters are diverse and each have very different individual stats, which would be worthy of a higher score from me, but unfortunately, the human characters in the game are awful. Especially Ria. She's so annoying. You can turn her dialogue off during the battle, but no where else. She won't shut up.

Fun: 8/10 Regardless of flaws, it's still a lot of fun to play with friends.

Camera: 2/10 There should be no reason the camera should be moving around so much during fighting, but Pokken does it way to much. It's at time nauseating and the two "phases" they added are more annoying.

    Overall: 30/50 or 6/10
Being a Pokemon fanatic, I wish I could give this a higher score, but there's too many major flaws that take away from my experience. I'm convinced that I won't be getting this game, but I'll be happy to play it on someone else's Wii U.

It's a very good game, with beautiful graphics, but I was expecting more combos, not just smash buttons to win. Also the online is hard but not hard because people play good, because they can spam a laser beam and I'm using a weak character like Dark Mewtwo that loses hp very quickly, and when I change my pokemon, they leave the battle. It doesn't deserve a 10 or a 9.

The core game is excellent, I've never played a fighting game quite like this. The game is fast and exciting with a small but varied selection of great characters. With a few friends, the game offers some serious fun.

However, I was disappointed with the single player portion, you have to rank up in each league before you can participate in tournaments and move onto the next league. It

It does fit the theme of Pokemon, having to train and rank up but I don't like the idea of level grinding in a one-on-one fighting game. The matches quickly become boring because you have to play so many fights at the same difficulty level and because of the limited roster, you're fighting the same pokemon over and over again. Once you get to the higher leagues, it may be more exciting but at the moment, it just feels like a chore.

The Wii U has been home to a lot of weird pairings that somehow work, and Pokken Tournament is the latest example. A Tekken game with Pokemon as the playable fighters. An off-the-wall idea that has all the right bells and whistles to be its own thing, and make no mistake. In a number of places, it succeeds with flying colors, but on the other hand, I can't help but think that this could have been one of the truly great fighting games if it wasn't so light on content.

Visually, Pokken is stunning. Pokemon have never looked this good in any other game, let alone in 3D. The fighting is just as polished as Tekken yet possesses all the flash we expect from Pokemon, letting you beat down opponents with as many crazy attacks as you can muster. The stages are just as gorgeous as the fighters (though they could stand to be more interactive like in Tekken or better yet its sister series Soulcalibur), topped off with some fantastic music. Sadly, that's where my praise ends, as everything else just left me scratching my head and wondering if they really gave it their all during development.

For starters, there's only 16 characters. For me, the sweetspot for fighting game rosters is between 20 and 25, and out of over 700 Pokemon, you'd think they're be more. While the single-player campaign is lengthy, it gets so repetitive that by the end I felt like I was just forcing myself through it. The paper-thin story peppered within it involving Shadow Mewtwo sadly doesn't help much, and in all honesty, I would have much preferred Ferrum League shortened into a basic Arcade Mode and the Story Mode lengthened to be more substantial while adding in other basic stuff like Survival or a sound test. Instead, what do you get for unlockables? Titles and avatar gear that in no way affect gameplay and outfits for the most irritating partner character this side of Zelda. Yes, you can turn of Nia's advice and mute her voice, but that didn't change her irritatingly happy-go-lucky personality, and by the time I stopped playing, I was sick of looking at her. Yes, there's stages and support Pokemon to unlock, but they unlock way too fast to feel truly rewarding, and without any real layout changes, all of the stages feel the exact same just with different backgrounds.

That doesn't mean I think you shouldn't look into this game. you should at some point, but it might be a better idea to wait for a price drop or find it used. Hopefully by then they'll have released some more substantial content. This honestly feels like the Wii U's version of Street Fighter V, but at least the online is stable

Pokken Tournament in the basics, succeeded in what it needed to. Good graphics and not completely terrible multiplayer experience as well as having decent controls, though it tempts to entice button smashing. Only issue is personally I hoped for a bit more from the story, roster, and an increased difficulty level for the story option rather than just on one of the uncommon used modes for single player fighting. Solid gameplay in general, but for me just falls short of living up to the hype, and may be forgettable after the year ends. Expand

Although this does add to the character roster temperaly, when I completed the story mode or "Ferrum League" All I unlocked was Shadow Mewtwo and regular mewtwo. Yes the roster is limited but the supports and leveling system made up for it. You have to spend a lot of time playing as other fighters in order to get them to be maxed out like in regular pokemon games. Although this game may seem to be a bit lacking in game modes I think this game has all it needs. The Online community is great and I can interact with my friends. Although I am at loss of what the codes are for though. The Local battling mode is way different though, I don't know why but when start the local battle set up process (Picking characters and stages) the framerate of the game drops by about maybe 30 frames per second. This would make sense for online battle but it seems the Wii U can't handle local battles for some reason. The Local battling is very similar to splatoon's system, One person uses the t.v screen and one person uses the gamepad. Both screens have perspectives on what player it is focused on. So I don't know why the framerate drops so low for this gamemode. As a pokemon fan I love this game, but there needs to be some dlc characters and updates for the framerate in Local Battling. Expand

The gameplay itself is good but this version is obsolete and was quickly replaced by the switch one, who got way more pokemon and is still getting updates and dlc. I do recommend trying this game, it is definetly worthy, but look for the switch edition of it.

    JUGABILIDAD:

A nice game, but you'd be better off playing another 3D fighter. This game can be very slow, and why did they pick the Pokémon they did? If you want to go around exploring and catching Pokémon, this isn't the game for you. Pick this up if you liked Tekken or Virtua Fighter.

Much like the recently released Street Fighter V, Pokkén Tournament is a fighting game that only really comes into its own if you plan on playing it in local or online multiplayer. Solo gameplay is fun in short bursts, but to get the most out of this one you’re going to need a partner to duke it out with.
