    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am a longtime fan of the Pikmin series. I have been hoping for a third entry into the series since I finally finished Pikmin 2 only a few years ago. After preordering and picking up the game earlier this year, I can say I wasn't disappointed with it. The game looks beautiful in HD graphics. The objects appear almost lifelike within the game, from the fruit, to the characters themselves, while cartoony in appearance, they look great, and have an improved look compared to captain models from the first two games. I enjoyed many of the features the new entry, the WIi U Gamepad provides a great map view of the world, and is very useful in tracking down stray Pikmin, I had an issue with that on Pikmin 1 and 2, as night would fall as I was searching for said Pikmin. I found the 3 captain controls very helpful in the mission modes of the game, having the ability to send one captain to one area while focusing on another was a genius idea. While I was a bit distraught over the absence of purple and white Pikmin from the campaign, I was glad to see them in the mission modes, while they were replaced by rock and pink Pikmin that fly. The rocks are great for taking enemies out quickly, and the pinks are good for attacking enemies that fly above so they can be brought down for the other pikmin to finish off. The game did have a few flaws though, the campaign, while enjoyable and fun, was rather short in length. There wasn't that many mission levels to begin with, but that was made up for through the addition of DLC, all of which I have bought, and will continue to purchase as long as they keep coming, and creative levels are introduced. While I did understand that the story focused on the 3 captains from Koppai, I was somewhat disappointed from the lack of appearance from Olimar in the game, aside from the data files that were left behind. I was kinda surprised to see that all Pikmin types are allowed to carry Bomb Rocks (I am glad that this is a feature that returned) now, instead of just yellow Pikmin alone. It's what made the yellows stand out, aside from their electricity resistance, which they also kept from Pikmin 2. I liked how they implied from the beginning that Olimar was dead, that alone brought me off my seat, and beat my childhood over the head in the process. I can't say what exactly sucked me into the game, but I know for a fact that this is a great game for Wii U owners, current and future, to pick up.… Expand

    I really did enjoy this game. I'll be frank: I didn't enjoy it as much as previous games, however that doesn't make it a total failure. It really only had a few problems with it.

    Yes. The controls were a little bit more complicated than they needed to be, however Im not going to be that jerk who writes a whole review about how they couldnt grasp the controls.     My only other two problems with it were that they removed purple and white Pikmen from the story mode and they shrunk the maps down, both of which I think added a lot of difficulty to some of he puzzles. The puzzles were just too easy in Pikmen 3 was and it was lacking in comparison to Pikmen and Pikmen 2.

    The graphics however are beautiful and the multiplayer is great! The game is totally emersive and it totally deserving of an 8.    … Expand

    Just bought my Wii U with Zelda HD and Pikmin 3. I'm a new comer to the Pikmin Universe and my first impression is that it is awesome! To be honest I currently suck at the game but I can't wait to get better and fully experience what Pikmin 3 has to offer. A must buy for the Wii U.

Graphics are beautiful and respect the world of pikmin, the game is pleasant and joyful, but it's quite poor for something we have been expecting for 9 years...compared to pikmin 2, the game doesn't add that much things, and it affects its length. The missions are good though and can brings more hours of playing. In conclusion, it's a bit disappointing forPikmin 3 is a really nice game.     This is a really good game, there are bad things added in this, and good things. A bad thing is that, when you go in a cave, theres no sublevels and just a room or 2. Plus, when you fight a boss in a cave, the time still goes down, so you might have to fight the boss again the next day. A good thing is, for me at least, how you have a fruit supply to get, and how it is real fruit, likeThis is a really good game, there are bad things added in this, and good things.     Gameplay

    The strategy involved in Pikmin 3 is what drew me to it and, that mixed with the puzzle like approach to areas, which you will be able to unlock over time once you discover more Pikmin species, is a very fun and rewarding process, and its nice to be able to go back to locations you visited and discover new items, and areas. Managing your Pikmin, and resources is the key to the game and it works well cycling through them to fight enemies, I only wish the game pad controls were a little less wonky, which they could be at times.

    Graphics/Presentation

    This is probably one of the prettiest games i have played on the Wii U, specifically in terms of the lighting effects, and level of detail put into the world. The game as expected from Nintendo runs very smooth, and I experienced no slowdowns or hiccups throughout my play-through.

    Overall Pikmin 3 is a must buy for Wii U owners, and is a very unique game to the platform. The strategic element to the game works well, and it is such a delight to play and explore its world.    … Expand

    Pikmin 3 is a great example of what HD was made for; the gorgeous woodlands, ponds and tundra spring from the screen teeming with life of Pikmin and other strange creatures. The third game in the series does well to have a much more relaxed pace to full take in the scope; this and the refined gameplay mechanics make it even more of a calming experience.     There is no other game that is more precise and finely crafted than this instant hit. I enjoy the graphics, music, and even the story line, when usually one or all three of those fail to impress. The best thing about it is the replay value as well as a large amount of inexpensive DLC.

Very endearing and memorable game, one of the most unique emotional experiences I've ever had brought on by pixels. What makes me give this a ten is that it actually never pissed me off, always engaged, was beautiful, the sound was organic instead of produced, and there is this weird connection to another world that feels completely normal. What's not normal are these mysterious bits of loose Human detritus. There is no human presence, and these wonderful Pikmin beings have evolved to be both plant and animal in an eerie post-apocalyptic world where everything is gorgeous including the baddies. The unique play style takes very little getting used to for young and old alike. Seriously one of the best games ever made.    … Expand

    Holy **** That was totally amazing. I was hooked from the start with the games absolutely gorgeous graphics and beautiful world that this was going to be a game that should make Nintendo proud no matter how amazing their past has been.

    The difficulty level was also just perfect. Some parts just seem easy, but most of it was rage inducing hard. Not to mention how what a good feeling it gives you about the Pikmin, I felt responsible for probably the first time I ever had in a video game, and I found myself risking it all just to save one Pikmin, and it was such a sad feeling when you would see one die and you would want to get revenge on whatever killed it.

    All around Pikmin 3 was an amazing and gorgeous experience, which makes you feel emotions you may never feel again. It is a must buy and unhateable.    … Expand

    Really good game. I never played the first two but I regret it now considering how good this game is. One of the best games not only on wii u but for next gen consoles as well.

I have not played the first two Pikmin games, but this one is not only beautiful to look at, but has a unique style of game play.     There was literally no way I could've enjoyed my Wii U better. Well, after WindWaker HD and 3D World came out, I enjoyed them more and played them more, but still this was the first game I greatly enjoyed for Wii U. I honestly would like to give it a 9.3, but it was either a 9 or 10 and isn't good enough to be a perfect. It's very close though. I can tell I'll be enjoying this for years to come.

The story is pretty interesting, though it meanders a little sometimes. The ending was very solid. The controls were oddly laid out, with the main action (throw/pick/attack) being hooked up to A (rightmost button), while the button where I would expect the primary action to go (B, the bottom most button) was set to dismiss your pikmin. This is bad because when someone holds the controller, their thumb rests on the B button naturally, so you would expect the main action to go there. Another thing is that the B button doesn't always dismiss your pikmin. When locked on, it makes them charge. I would not have expected the same button that dismisses (a very passive, non-aggressive move) to also function as an all in attack when locked on. It made for some very tricky situations when I wasn't fully locked on, and I accidentally dismissed all my pikmin in the heat of a boss fight. So, good game, but bad controller layout.… Expand

I was saddened however, by the lack of treasure like in Pikmin 2, the lack of caves, and that in the story mode the 2 new Pikmin types we met in Pikmin 2 are not present, and are basically replaced. I haven't played the other installments in this series but I may now, after enjoying this one. The mechanics of the game, while simple, are effective and satisfying.

    This game is gorgeous, really fun and the graphics are great. It's a complete new story that every wii u owner should try out. It's simply the best on the franchise and it deserves more love.

    i love this game, got recommended this game after i purchased the Wii U. the game play is simple yet challenging, you can use the Pikmin as fodder in battles and just keep sprouting new ones or try and save everyone with a furious panic to locate the missing ones before the day ends.     Pikmin 3 is my personal Wii U game of the year for 2013. It has great gameplay and visuals. There is lots of collectables and the exploration is fun. The music is great and the boss battles are the best of the series. This game is worth the full $60. Every Wii U owner should own this game!

    This game is an absolute gem and once played I was so addicted I bought and played the first and second game in the series as well!
    If I was Nintendo I would be working on some dlc levels not battle and most defiantly the fourth title!

    Gameplay: Pikmin 3 introduce many new enemies, features, and 2 new pikmin to use. It also contains a small amount of puzzles from here and there, but its mostly a RTS game with action thrown in. If your familiar with the Pikmin games, you can easily adopt to the changes, If your new, don't worry, Pikmin 3 will teach you what you need to know, and data files can be found all around, providing hints, and tips for newcomers, they are optional to grab, so you can learn at your own pace. Also, with many different control options, you will find a comfortable way to play. In a nutshell, Pikmin 3 gameplay is great, its user friendly for newcomers, but is still a bit difficult for expert players.

    Graphics: Pikmin 3 graphics are amazing, one of the best looking Wii U games, Pikmin 3 will amaze you with its graphics. The environment looks awesome. Flowers, fruit, and other plant life looks very realistic, with many details added! The best is the water effects. Running in the water creates realistic effects, like the ripples, and even distort anything underwater, like in real life! Even aquatic creatures create ripples!

    Music: Pikmin 3 is filled with a beautiful soundtrack. Each BGM (background music) fits the environment perfectly! From calm soundtracks like in the wintry Distant Tundra, to a upbeat tropical soundtrack for the summer time Tropical Wilds! All of it will amaze you! Also, the music in Pikmin 3 (as well as in the other pikmin games) changes slightly, depending on whats happening. If you fight an enemy, a new piece is added, to make the music sound more intense and louder. If you carrying something, a soft piece is added, to make the music sound more peaceful. When working, the music gets lively, and once sunset approaches, the music gets very quiet, and calm! You will enjoy this game's soundtrack.

    Problems: One big problem with the game is, its a bit glitchy! Glitches can easily be exploited, good or bad. Also, the game is pretty short, but its made to be short, as its a speedrun game (A game made to be relatively, so it can be played, over and over again, for speedrunner). Also, the bosses aren't very tough. You may find them difficult at first, but after finding their weakness, they're a complete joke! The final boss however is quite difficult! Also, there's no real online play, just a simple leaderboard.

    Overall: Pikmin 3 is a awesome Sci-fi adventure, in a beautiful environment filled with many different odd creatures. Its mainly a RTS, mixed with a bit of puzzles, and action, that can be enjoyable for anyone, even newcomers. It is a bit glitchy from time to time, and once you find out how to beat a boss, you can easily destroy them after, once you find their weakness. Also there is a lack of online play, but the game still holds up as a gorgeous game with a calm atmosphere, and great music. There's even a 2 player mode, to try it out with a friend.     i have played all the pikmin games from the gamecube to this one. The idea of fruit juice i found different however it seemed a little similar to pikmin 2. With the use of the game pad or screen players could play on whatever surface they wanted. The game could have ended up getting a bit more challenging but it ended up being fun.

    It has a happy atmosphere, simontaneously making you grief every time your pikmin army takes a heavy loss due to a bad descision of yours, or that you did not collect any fruit that day, making you live off your already suffering planets resources.     The vissuals are stunning, and very varied, I always wanted to explore everywhere for fruit. To see the world from these small guys' perspective is really neat.
    The boss fights are very unique, well designed and fun.

    The gameplay of Pikmin 3 is not like anything I've played before. It is a must play. It is not challenging being able to beat the game, but if you do not manage your resources properly it will take you many more in-game days to complete, and more fruit is wasted. The gameplay you must experience to udnerstand.

    The only drawbacks I have for this game are that the main story was semi-short (not by today's standars, really), lasting about 10 hours. If you are to collect all of the fruit, and aditional modes, it'll lst a lot longer though. I personaly used a wii remote for playing, which worked really well, but it forced me to use the gamepad once in a while. It would have been nice to get the option not to use it. If you put it in your lap, or on a chair next to you it will prove very useful however.

    The multiplayer is also fun, but nothing I feel like I could get more than 10 hours or so out of. basicaly, I will buy the rest of the series. That is how fun it was.    … Expand

    It's a good engaging game, although I found the controls to be a little confusing at first. I haven't played it all the way through as yet as I started to bore of it after an hour or so.

    It's true that some Fanboys thinks that The Big N doesnt have more tittles than Mario and Zelda, and thats a shame. Pikmin 3 its a big game with a great concept that can give hours of fun. The franchise its litte undeground, and i just dont know why its not more popular.

    This is a really fun game! Single player is a little too linear; it's pretty straight forward following the mission objectives, and there aren't really any side quests except trying to find any fruit you've missed, but it's still fun and a decent story. There are 5 different kinds of Pikman and each has its own ability, which leads to some interesting puzzles as you have to figure outThis is a really fun game!     IMO the game really shines in multiplayer co-op, as you work with a friend to either "defeat all enemies" or "collect all treasure" against the clock. You have to master patience and teamwork if you want to earn the platinum medals for most of these levels! The downside to multiplayer is that there are a limited number of levels, so once you beat them, there isn't much else to do. There is DLC to get a few more levels, but even then, it's still not a lot.

    Would have been great to have the ability to play the single player campaign in multiplayer mode (and it doesn't make sense that you can't, since there are 3 characters to control), but sadly that's not possible.    … Expand

It's not the level of graphics of your typical first-person shooter, but it looks gorgeous especially whenever it rains and you can see water on the ground. I can't tell you how many times I was amazed by the visuals.

    The gameplay in the game is the same as all the other Pikmin games. Usually you have a specific goal to accomplish in a certain in-game day and you must use the different types of Pikmin that have joined with you to complete the goal. There are many types of Pikmin in the game: red (defends fire), blue (can survive in water), and yellow (can withstand electricity), as well as the new rock (can break objects) and winged (can fly) Pikmin. The purple and white Pikmin do not make an appearance in the main mode but they make a return in one of the game's side modes. The gameplay is simplistic and fun and while you may not accomplish what you want to do in a day, you always have the next one.

    The Wii U GamePad is used as a map in the game which can be both helpful and confusing at times. The map's overall layout is a bit confusing but whenever you're trying to round up Pikmin at the end of the day, it's extremely helpful. There are many bosses to fight in the game and to me, these bosses are always an important factor when scoring a game. Thankfully, the bosses are incredibly unique and all require the Pikmin to work together to beat them, making the bosses a true highlight in the game.

    Overall, Pikmin 3 is a must-have for any Wii U owner. It has great visuals, engaging gameplay, amazing and creative bosses, and a helpful GamePad feature. Look for it before it becomes rare!    … Expand

Alright so first off, this is one of the most beautiful games I have ever seen and the music and visuals go so well together and it makes it that much better. Ontop of that, this game actually have a constantly flowing story which is a little unoriginal but it has very charming moments and a fair share of plot twists. I played this game using the wii remote and nunchuck while the gamepad acted as a map for me and I believe this is the most efficient way of playing. The motion controls are simple and on point (which hasn't been a problem in the Pikmin series anyway). The levels in story mode have tons of collectibles which consist of : Fruit, Journal logs, and hidden suit upgrades. All of the levels in pikmin three are each very unique and different from each other. Not to mention that all of the levels are quite massive! There are five different types of pikmin in the story mode and 7 in bingo battle and mission mode which are all very unique and fun to use (but I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't already seen them). Bingo battle and mission mode are the two extra multiplayer modes in pikmin 3. Let me talk about bingo battle mode first. Bingo battle is a versus mode in which two players must try to fill out a bingo card at the bottom of the screen by carrying the items listed back to their base (whether it's the body of a monster, a fruit, or marble). The players can try to stop the other players from winning by having their pikmin battles each other, stealing the item they need to win, or (my person al favourite) by using a cherry to spin a roulette wheel to somehow buff your army or screw up your opponent. Each map uses two different types of pikmin (which are the same for both teams) which are best suited for the environment (for example a map with water on it will give you blue pikmin). There are 12 maps in total which you can unlock through playing on each map once. The last mode is mission mode which is split up into three smaller modes: Collect treasure, battle enemies, and defeat bosses. The titles are pretty self explanitory but i'll explain otherwise. Collect treasure is a mode where you are given a set number of pikmin and you must try to bring as many things as you can back to your base before the time runs out. Everything in this mode is worth money to try to bring everything back while being efficent and productive. "Battle enemies" similar except this time you're just fighting monsters and bringing them back to base before the time runs out. In "Battle Bosses" you fight the previous bosses you've encountered in the games story mode while trying to beat your previous record (by trying to lose less pikmin and by beating your time). the game also has DLC in the form of more missions for mission mode which I'll admit I haven't bought yet. All in all pikmin is a great game and series and this title doesn't disappoint. It's a little on the short side and I wouldn't pay the prices they're selling it for online (I bought it on release), but this game is worth the digital download and definitely worth your time.

    Great graphics make this game a pleasure to play. It requires a little bit of strategy and thought but is not too difficult for kids. The boss battles are good and varied. It is really good fun and worth getting. A highly polished game and the time limits mean it does not drag on too long for each level.

    It would've been nice if the White and Purple Pikmin hadn't been pushed off to the side, sure. The game could've had a few more items to collect for a really hard challenge. But overall, I couldn't be more happy with this game. If you have a Wii U, you should have this game. If you don't have a Wii U, you should have a Wii U and this game.

    Years after the second one we just got rehashes of the gamecube one but now pikmin 3! I thought this wouldn't be as good as the 2 original and it was but this game is still perfect!

    A gorgeous game that is a REAL treat to experience. I loved every darn minute of exploring the Pikmin 3 world. A few control irritations, and a slightly baffling final boss fight were the weaker moments, but they were lesser parts of an otherwise excellent whole.

However, a part of the main experience of pikmin is collecting objects. In the first game, it is the ship parts, and the second, hundreds of unique objects which tally up to a total to let your progress, the parts are a requirement to progression. this is one of the most important parts of the game, and pikmin 3 has failed at making it interesting and essential. In pikmin 3 you collect fruit, and this fruit is supposedly essential to the main plot, but all it does gameplay wise is make sure you dont fail, and run out of food to survive the game. This is a bad decision on many parts, the only addition the fruit adds is more time, fruit is not required and adds nothing other than more days to get to the linear goal, which is always solving puzzles to get to a single boss fight. this leads all of the game to be set on a linear story driven path, where nothing you do except following it progresses the game itself, which is a downside to the very nonlinear setup of the first two games. The collectables are also boring: in the first two games the collectables were interesting and unique, the ship parts had a cool look and were unique in their own way, and pikmin 2 had you collect stuff you knew, chapstick, but in pikmin 3 you collect the same type of fruit, and alot of them are repeats. this is detrimental to pikmins core design and hinders the experience. I play pikmin to explore and collect, but I am not incentivised nor required to do so to progress the plot, and the game loves to stop you to force you to do something. The game is very linear, and its short too. The biggest part of the two pikmin games was collecting and here it serves no purpose to progression other than letting you continue the linear path it has set for you. in the first two you had to collect and find stuff to continue, and that was where most of the strategy came.. but all it seems like now is the puzzles and combat, which are done well I will have to give credit. In my eyes pikmin 2 is a stronger title than this but if you want to ease into pikmin play this game first.… Expand

Pikmin 3 is the first installment in the franchise to replace Olimar as the protagonist, having you play in the shoes, (or, rather, "space suits), of three astronauts from the planet of Koppai, Alph, Brittany, and Charlie. The new crew is just overflowing with personality and charm, and as the plot constantly separates and reunites its members, Pikmin 3's story provides a rollercoaster of enjoyment. I'm not going to spoil anything, but the ending sequence was a bit tedious, though that's my only "big" issue with the game.
    Aside from story, aside from that end sequence I just mentioned, the gameplay and level design is absolutely superb. Like I said, the core Pikmin gameplay is beyond satisfying to me, and the levels you traverse are so well crafted that it's hard for me to believe that Pikmin is a relatively niche series. One of the main goals of Pikmin 3 is found in collecting fruits, and you get these by either simply finding them in the world, solving a little puzzle, or defeating a boss or mini boss. There are 66 fruits in all, and they were almost universally fun for me to collect.
    On top of gameplay and story, Pikmin 3 runs perfectly on the Wii U, and has some of the best visuals you're likely to find on the system. Some of the environments are absolutely breathtaking, and they even sport a good visual variety.
    When you add Pikmin 3's two incredible bonus modes to the mix, you're left with one of the best games I've ever played, and one of the biggest recommendations I can give you.    … Expand

    Hago esta review después de no poder acabar el juego porque a mi Wii U le ha dado la santa gana de borrar el juego y sus datos de guardado cuando iba a entrar en el último planeta del juego. También decir que era el primer Pikmin que jugaba y, la verdad, me lo estaba pasando como un niño.

    A wholesome and fun experience on the Wii U, The greatest console. Some parts are a bit soggy however.

    Pikmin 3 is the best game of the Wiiu Nintendo games the graphics and the characters and the controls are better the missions to kill enemies are easy and normal and collecting the money is difficult well I liked it I give it the criticism: 10/10.

    Pikmin 3 is the best Pikmin game. Pikmin 1 and 2 are excellent, but Pikmin 3 is the finest game of them all.

    I think the switch version is much better but. Still a very good version of the game with a well told story unique characters with the story being very good and compelling to see unfold. The man characters are not bad and are actually quite likable in my opinion. a high recommend for anybody who liked pikmin 1

    Pikmin 3 combines RTS elements, direct action and light puzzles. The result is a quite endearing scifi-adventure despite some control issues and bland splitscreen multiplayer. There's also no real need to develop special tactics for bosses. [Aug 2013]

    Pikmin 3 is a cute game with plenty of soul. It takes the concept from the two previous games one step further with the way it combines tactics with roleplaying. In terms of graphics this is probably the most beautiful game the world has ever seen on a Nintendo console.
