Jun 24, 2013If you’ve felt like some of the old-school magic has been missing from Super Mario games lately, let Luigi guide you through some of the most satisfying platform gaming ever designed.
-
Jul 15, 2013Luigi’s expansion is as big as a whole new game filled of playful and innovative level design. The significantly higher difficulty level is welcome and feels like atribute to The Lost Levels, and if you’ve ever liked challenging platform games New Super Luigi U is a must have.
-
Jul 4, 2013As a "DLC" and at a price point of just $20 New Super Luigi U should already be on your hard drive. Yes, it's that good!
-
Jul 3, 2013You get a whole new slew of 80 levels that takes about as long as the main game to get through, and has even more to do because it’s just so amazingly difficult. While some of the visual elements feel a little pasted-in, New Super Luigi U adds enough fresh things to an already excellent base game to be more than worth your time.
-
Sep 16, 2013If you have some resistance against frustration and want a short but intensive trip into the New Super Mario Bros. Universe, you should keep that addition in mind.
-
Jun 21, 2013New Super Luigi U is the kind of game the Wii U needs. It’s familiar enough to bring in long-time Nintendo fans; it’s new enough to bring in the newcomers; and it’s challenging and rewarding enough to keep people playing.
-
Pelit (Finland)Oct 5, 2013Luigi's own adventure is probably one of the largest DLC packets on the market. The whole New Super Mario U has been remixed, the difficulty level has been tuned, and the slim main character is totally different from the plump plumber. This add-on is well worth the money. [Sept 2013]
-
Jul 10, 2013Luigi U is absolutely worth playing if you enjoyed the original Mario U… or any Mario for that matter.
-
Jul 1, 2013This is a big DLC. It's so big that, graphics aside, it could very well be a standalone platform game. The price isn't cheap, but there is a lot of high quality content. Nintendo's level design is inspired and there's a lot to chew for hardcore platform fans.
-
Jun 26, 2013Never have levels been this short, nor the emphasis on perfection so explicit, and these elements work in New Super Luigi U's favor.
-
Jun 25, 2013Luigi is absolutely the guy. This game is cheap and a must buy voor Wii U owners.
-
Jun 24, 2013Despite a shorter adventure, the sense of challenge and the high density make this Add-On highly recommended.
-
Jun 21, 2013New Super Luigi U is an awesome DLC, a collection of 83 fragments of pure game design that is able to amaze, frustrate and, in the end, satisfy every gamer. It seems that every level is packed with content, but maybe it's just the forced fast pace that gamers have to embrace.
-
Jun 30, 2013The adventure may not have changed, but the challenge sure has.
-
Jul 12, 2013If you rush to the goal for each level you’ll be done with this in a few hours, give or take a couple hours for your level of skill. But if you’re a big fan of Mario platformers, and have been looking for some amped up difficulty, New Super Luigi U certainly does the trick.
-
Jun 27, 2013Challenging, classic, colorful: Luigis Add-On brings a new feeling to the retro-platformer, but frustrates with its inert controls.
-
Jun 21, 2013Nintendo shows that they also can create good additional content. 82 completely new levels with a slightly improved difficulty and a smarter design. Highly recommended for skilled gamers and people that needed more platformer fun in their Wii U consoles.
-
LEVEL (Czech Republic)Sep 19, 2013An unexpected expansion pack for the New Super Mario Bros. U brings new levels, a new hero, more intense gameplay, and higher difficulty level. It's a shame the multiplayer game is a fail. [Issue#232]
-
Sep 10, 2013Even if the contents of New Super Luigi U reminds you of the original game that is really not a problem. This expansion is filled with great new material in the form of challenging and well designed levels and the simple yet game changing Luigi controls. A must own for all fans of platform games.
-
Aug 11, 2013New Super Luigi U is a great idea from a Nintendo still trying new ways to make DLC and one that works really well for its purpose.
-
Games Master UKJul 29, 2013New Super Mario Bros U crushed into a nugget of pure challenge, but at a cost. [Sept 2013, p.74]
-
Jul 10, 2013With New Super Luigi U, Nintendo showed us once more that game design is its main concern. Even though it seems that the developers only tweaked small bits of the game, like Luigi's movement or the length of some levels, at the end those small changes really impact the whole experience. This DLC adds a lot of content to the original game, although some things feel rushed, like the story that justifies Luigi's being the protagonist in the first place.
-
Jul 10, 2013New Super U Luigi provides no other modes and no additional challenges that can be found on the Super Mario version, which limits the content of the game. However, as an expansion, the 82 levels provide plenty of hours of fun with a greater difficulty.
-
Jul 9, 2013A rather expansive DLC pack, New Super Luigi U actually stands up well on its own. It offers up a healthy challenge and plenty of fun for those who enjoyed New Super Mario Bros. U and games past.
-
Jun 30, 2013New Super Luigi U is a big expansion. You get 82 redesigned levels and extra challenging gameplay for twenty Euros. Controlling Luigi takes some getting used to though. But when you hit that ideal line through the levels it does deliver on satisfaction. You do finish these levels much faster than in New Super Mario Bros. U due time limits, so don't expect it to entertain you as long as the original.
-
Jun 27, 2013He's a mean, green, Goomba-stomping machine. And you're gonna love playing with him.
-
Jun 27, 2013New Super Luigi U is a fantastic package for the $19.99 price tag. There are a ton of new levels, and the unique mechanics create a whole new experience.
-
Jun 25, 2013New Super Luigi U doesn't necessarily improve on New Super Mario Bros. U, and we wouldn't recommend it for those who didn't get on with the original. As an expansion for a Wii U launch game that might be gathering dust, however, New Super Luigi U introduces lots of wonderful levels and an increased challenge.
-
Jun 25, 2013It would have been nice to see more additions, perhaps a few new areas and some different bosses (all the boss fights are the same as in the parent title, which is disappointing), and an extra 50 seconds per level might not have hurt to have a dawdle for secret areas and star coins. Despite these caveats, it proves just how smart and ahead of the pack Nintendo are with level design and gameplay.
-
Jun 24, 2013Nintendo has always lagged behind when it comes to online offerings, so the quality of New Super Luigi U is reassuring. It may recycle tons of content from the main game, but more Mario platforming action is rarely a bad thing. As a fan of New Super Mario Bros. U, I enjoyed these new twists on the decades-old format.
-
Jun 24, 2013For the price, and if you’re up to the challenge, you can’t go wrong with New Super Luigi U.
-
Jun 24, 2013New Super Luigi U is just Nintendo all over - a quality package that has had some thought, care and offers solid value for the asking price. It may sound like just additional levels at a glance, but the new mechanics coupled with tough, yet rewarding, designs create a must-download package for fans.
-
Jun 24, 2013The sense of the old is thankfully tempered by a fresh feel and clever level design, however, and even if the adventure won't last long for those without completionist instincts, it's fun while it lasts.
-
Jun 21, 2013New Super Luigi U makes for a package that feels more like a full expansion pack than just another piece of DLC.
-
Jun 21, 2013If you loved New Super Mario Bros. U., getting Luigi U is a no-brainer, as it features a collection of superior levels and an interesting re-work of Luigi as a character.
-
Jun 21, 2013New Super Luigi U is a great DLC for fans of the classic Mario games. More than 80 new levels with frantic, deep and complex design, new Luigi's control and the same great coop like the original game. However, this downloadable content doesn't have new tools or visuals improvements.
-
Jul 7, 2013The platforming equivalent of rubbing your tummy and patting your head while your childhood enemies tickle your armpits with a dead pigeon. Luigi U is cute, but scattershot in its approach. Mario remains the 2D king... for now.
-
Jul 7, 2013For 20 bucks you get some intense and challenging playtime, and that is not a bad deal at all.
-
Jun 25, 2013Overall, if you can accept the difficulty of New Super Luigi U then you probably will love the additional challenges, 80 levels and complexity of it all. Nintendo did do a lot to this DLC, far more effort than most companies would have put into their own DLC. Give them credit for delivering the goods the way you would expect Nintendo to deliver them -- except with a little bit more difficulty included.
-
Jul 22, 2013At $49.95, Luigi U is still pretty steep as far as DLC goes, and it’s probably not vital unless you really love the original game and just can’t get enough.
-
Jul 3, 2013This is a Mario platformer in which multiplayer – as in multiple characters on screen at the same time – isn’t much fun.
-
Jun 30, 2013New Super Luigi 2 is actually a completely new game with dozens of levels. The abruptness of the shorter levels won't sit right with everyone, but do ramp up the difficulty. It's a shame though that it reuses all of the New Super Mario Bros. U art-assets and doesn't offer any new environments. This can be looked over though, by whoever can't get enough of qualitative strong platform adventures.
-
Jun 25, 2013A great addition for those who enjoyed the original version. It may be expensive if considered a mere DLC, but it holds many, many hours of fun.
-
Jun 25, 2013New Super Luigi U manages to show some clever ideas in terms of level design, but its quick run based structure and déjà-vu feeling makes it a good - but not astounding - content to play.
-
Jun 27, 2013Its smaller levels, restrictive time limit, and floaty physics work well as a challenge mode add-on to an already terrific game. But as fun as it often is, this still feels more like an addendum to NSMBU – a remix, rather than something new that stands on its own.
-
Sep 2, 2013At first glance, New Super Luigi U looks exactly the same as New Super Mario Bros. U. New Super Luigi U feels almost the same as the prequel, but with shorter levels and less time to finish them it has it's strengths in the levels with high amounts of speed and timed jumps.
-
Aug 12, 2013New Super Luigi U offers a far greater challenge than any of the previous entries in the New Super Mario Bros. series but little else new beyond the altered physics.
-
games(TM)Jul 28, 2013Merely an expensive luxury. [Issue#137, p.119]
-
Jul 22, 2013Too me, all platformer releases from Nintendo should be a direct feed to the best innovation the company can offer. This gets someway up the flagpole but falls short of hitting the top.
-
Jul 14, 2013In this case, downsized levels and curtailed countdowns hardly equate to a lessening of comprehensive value. Luigi in the hero role, especially with his irregular locomotion, may still take some getting used to, but in the case of New Super Luigi U, the irritations are well worth the rewards.
-
Jul 4, 2013Mario is missing but that doesn't necessarily makes Super Luigi U a bad game. On the contrary, his absence makes some room for Luigi so that he can express a surprisingly hardened personality through diabolically designed levels.
-
Jul 3, 2013If you’re ready for the heightened difficulty of solo play in New Super Luigi U, then you’ll find it rewarding. Otherwise, it’s a taxing platformer that’s only made more rage-inducing in multiplayer.
-
Jul 2, 2013Only for fans of the original New Super Mario Bros. U that still enjoy Nintendo's extensive know-how about making 2D platform videogames.
-
Jun 26, 2013New Super Luigi U is a faster, more hectic ride through things we've seen before. This was supposed to be Luigi's big chance for the spotlight, but he's once again settled for playing second fiddle to his brother's adventures.
-
Jun 28, 2013Luigi deserves better than this truncated take on the Mario platforming formula. While the level-design enhancements are a nice touch, too much remains unchanged when it comes to boss encounters, and the ridiculously short time limit in every level destroys the real draw of a Mario game: patient exploration.
-
Jul 19, 2013Gamers who love a good challenge are bound to be satisfied with this collection of levels. Anyone else - whether they're as casual as it comes or even longtime fans of the series - may not be so enamoured with the spike in difficulty and lack of originality.
-
Jun 25, 2013A strange set of priorities and a peculiarly high price make Nintendo’s big DLC experiment a hard sell for all but the most committed platform fans.
-
Jun 24, 2013At its best, New Super Luigi U is an exhilarating test of skill, but on occasion it dangerously approximates a fan-made ROM hack, mistakenly believing that an increased enemy count equates to satisfying design. Some will undoubtedly find its challenge inviting, but others will rightly expect more ingenuity from Nintendo than this.
-
Jun 24, 2013It's not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination: the level design is still a cut above so many of Nintendo's peers. But by the series' consistently high standards, it qualifies as a disappointment.
