NES Remix 2

While there are a few less than stellar games among the mix of new titles, it’s hard not to recommend NES Remix 2.

One things is clear with NES Remix 2. It is absolutely superior to NES Remix. The assortment of offered games, inclusion of a modified version of Super Luigi Bros., and Championship Mode assure it. Yet, the lag that plagues many of the challenges can be criminal and it's a shame that the emulation issues are present.

Simply stated, NES Remix 2 is a real sequel’s sequel, with stronger games, weirder remixes and better bonuses. Players who’d like an interactive history lesson and anyone with fondness for old-school Nintendo could do far worse than romancing these ROMs.

It's more or less the same tribute to Nintendo's 8 bit era as the first NES Remix, but this time the game selection is stronger and the level design a bit better.

Oh, sweet memories. NES Remix 2 knows, just like the first, to make gamers dream about those days when they we're little, playing Mario et cetera. NES Remix 2 has a bit too much of that Mario, we would have rather seen some more other classics, but other than that it is a great game to play (off-TV). It is very addictive to make sure to complete all mini-games with three stars, and in some cases very difficult just like NES games are supposed to be.

Given the list of games provided and a creatively solid reconstruction, NES Remix 2 is the ultimate challenge compilation of 8-bit cult classics from Nintendo.

It revived my love for a number of classics, and showed me precisely how and why they worked so well. There's life and depth to these titles, and that shines particularly well when they're so artfully and cleverly jumbled together.

NES Remix 2 is another classic easy to learn but challenging to finish. Better game selection with some of the best NES games. However, isn't better in terms of minigames.

After NES Remix, I knew I wanted more. NES Remix 2 is definitely a step in the right direction, but due to featuring fewer games than the first Remix (which had 16 as opposed to the sequel's 12) and not including the best from the first, there’s still an air of incompleteness about it.

A love letter to the Nintendo Entertainment System and a wonderful introduction or reintroduction for gamers of all ages, NES Remix 2 expands on the entertaining original by providing challenges based on some of the best first-party games ever released on the system, making it a more complete package than its predecessor.

NES Remix 2 is a solid follow-up with more "must have" games and a few extras to sweeten the deal.

The fundamental premise of NES Remix 2 remains sound, but the shift in focus to more complex source material crimps its style somewhat. Thankfully, the bonus modes go a long way toward restoring some of the shine to its star. It's not quite as essential a play as its predecessor, but it offers an amusing, self-referential distraction nevertheless.

Twelve more games, and a frankly better selection than the first one, for all the people who want to explore the remote past of videogames.

This one is for the nostalgic fans out there that grew up with and respect the 8-bit era. Nintendo has put together some solid mini-games and remix levels from some of their strongest NES titles. You’ll find a lot to love about NES Remix 2. Just beware of the occasional frustrating moments.

It turns out that better games don't necessarily make for better remixes.

A good collection of mini games becomes a great experience if you’re old enough to feel nostalgic.

Another fun and massive minigame collection for hardcore gamers. Maybe lacks in the innovation side, but still a very addictive experience.

It’s good to see Nintendo flexing the strength of its back catalog. NES Remix was a nice start, and NES Remix 2 is an improvement. Plenty of people, including me, love this era of gaming, and this game does a good job of capitalizing on that.

There's nothing particularly amazing to NES Remix 2 if you didn't grow up with any of these games, but for those of you out there who have fond memories of these games, give NES Remix 2 a shot, it offers a short burst of some sublime gameplay.

The best games from the two episodes of Nes Remix could have been used to create a fantastic experience. Instead, Nes Remix 2 shows the same problems of the first one: an inconsistent selection of some wonderful masterpieces and some other totally forgettable products from the Nes era.

NES Remix 2 is a better attempt at doing bite size challenges of NES games by expanding the quality of the games included.

Nintendo keeps using its legacy as a way to boost its presence and while NES Remix 2 does strike a chord with the nostalgia crowd, it also shows its limitations by not expanding the pool of challenges beyond that of the original title. For this reason and also for the lack of a real online interaction, Remix 2 does not stand out as it should.

Thanks to a selection of greater games, NES Remix 2 provides a more exalting experience, from both a pedagogical and nostalgic point of view. But some remixes still lack inspiration, despite indieZero's efforts to create varied tricks. There are a few wonderful ideas though, proving that quality was chosen over quantity. And this is a clever way to revisit such old, yet relevant games today.

I enjoyed my time with NES Remix 2, but it’s ultimately a shallow experience.

Challenges tend to strike the right balance of brevity, the game library is varied and mostly wears its age well, and the Remix stages offer a much more interesting and enjoyable bag of tricks than before.

NES Remix 2’s superior selection of games means it should maintain your interest longer than its predecessor; only rarely will you curse the controls that mean the more exacting platforming challenges can be infuriating to master.

Nothing here works as a replacement for the original material, but this is still a delightful experience whether you remember blowing the dust out of 8-bit cartridges or not.

The sequel is definitely stronger than the original, but the improvements are incremental, and I can't help but wonder what a strong game we might have had if Nintendo had combined the best parts of both.

The cynic in us says it's more like an advert for the Virtual Console than a full game, but the veteran gamer in us can't help but rejoice at the happy memories it conjures up. [July 2014, p.79]

NES Remix 2 offers several entertaining ”what if” scenarios, where different kind of games meets in ways that’s both interesting and fun. Unfortunately it comes with way to much pointless gameplay. If Nintendo wants to compete at the same level as the best arcade games on Xbox Live Arcade and PSN they need to do something else than just remixing old stuff.

The component games are better than the first time round but less well suited to the mini-game format, resulting in two unsatisfying halves of what could have been the perfect retro compilation.

Remixes can be irreverent or sacrosanct, but more than anything else they must disrupt their original context. NES Remix 2 fails this test. It’s not a new way of experiencing old ideas; it’s a highlight reel. If NES Remix were a DJ, it wouldn’t be Danger Mouse tearing up The Grey Album—it would be that guy in your dorm who insisted on DJing at college parties but couldn’t bear to play a single song all the way through.
