    Previous Lego games have failed to excite me much, for a simple reason: if I'm gonna play a Harry Potter game, for example, I want it to be Harry Potter, not Lego. Same goes for Indiana Jones, Batman, Star Wars. Yes, the Lego twist is often adorable, but the games end up feeling more like harmless diversions than memorable experiences.

    Lego City Undercover changes this panorama drastically by focusing on an original open world with original characters. As undercover cop Chase McCain, you'll embark on a journey that might just be (and I don't say this lightly) the funniest game I've ever played. The story is a tongue-in-cheek homage to cop movies, filled with light-hearted jabs at every single cliché we've come to expect from them. The hilarious character roster is beyond adorable, easily having what it takes to develop into a whole new franchise on its own right.

    The gameplay strikes a balance that is rare to see: while the main storyline is very straightforward, and should be perfect even for novice gamers, it hides a much deeper experience that will hook even the most seasoned players. That's because of the ridiculously huge number of game-changing collectibles, which include new vehicles, new disguises, and new power-ups for the gamepad's item-finding radar (which in turn helps you keep finding the remaining collectibles). Getting 100% in every borough of the city is going to be a daunting task, but an extremely fun one.

    The one significant flaw in the game are the long loading times, which can sometimes ruin the sense of immersion. The good news is that, as the exploration mostly takes place in a single vast open world, those loading screens will be few and far between. It's still annoying, but the positive aspects of the game more than make up for it.

    To sum it up: Lego City Undercover is an experience that is perfectly suited for all ages. It's like watching your favorite comedy animated series while partaking in a thrilling scavenging hunt, exploring a vast open-world city made of Legos. If you own a Wii U, do yourself a favor and go after this masterpiece. If you don't, let me tell you: this is the rare kind of game you should buy a new platform for.    … Expand

    If you like the concept of GTA, but don't want to be a "scum-bag" character, this game offers a great alternative. Don't assume that this is a "kiddie" game. Yes, it is a clean lego theme, but the writing is best appreciated by someone who grew up watching cop shows and action movies of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.     Yes, the screen loading times are very long but you just need to accept it and get over it. Think of it as a commercial break (like when watching sports) that allows you to go get drink or go to the bathroom and then you are ready for more great Chase McCain action.     I wasn't excited about this game but I decided to give it a shot based on all the positive reviews I read. Game and story are amazing. It is funny and entertaining! Exploring the city is so much fun! I had to knock off 1 point for the relatively long load times between scenes.     Take the role of chase McCain and explore a gta styled world made out of Lego Lego city undercover is an incredible game It's funny the graphics are beautiful and there's so much to do and explore this game is nearly flawless My only complaint is the load screen are way too long But overall but this game now

You can scan criminals, listen to conversations, use a map, and much more with the GamePad.

    LEGO City Undercover has a huge open world and it'll possibly have the biggest open world in LEGO games for years to come. It's extremely fun to explore with vehicles and airplanes alike. It really brings a sort-of Grand Theft Auto feel to the game, which isn't bad by any means. The only truly bad thing about the open world is that you can't explore it with a friend.

    Like with all LEGO games, there's a ton of replayability since there's so much to see and collect. Character tokens make a return as well as Gold Bricks and there's more than ever! Red bricks can be bought at the police station and they can give you special abilities. Speaking of special abilities, disguises play a huge role in the game. You can become a robber and use a crowbar, become a firefighter to put out fires, or become a miner and place dynamite in specific areas.

    Overall, LEGO City Undercover is a fantastic game and it's the first must-buy in the Wii U library. The GamePad is used greatly, there's a huge open world, and there's so much to see and do!    … Expand

    This game is amazing! My 8 year old son loves it and the very few times he has let me play, I have loved it as well! This is his new favorite game. He has a very short attention span, but has had no problem keeping his attention on this game for hours at a time!

    This Game is Awesome, finally a Lego "SandBox'' maybe it doesnt have the graphics of GTA or a Serious Story, but its Pretty Fun, it have one of the funniest scrips ever and it is totally worth your Money, and because its a lego Game it have a LOT OF COLLECTIBLES, a wii u most have.

    This game is by far the best Lego game yet. Ive played some of the other games in the franchise and they were really entertaining but Lego City Undercover beats them all. Lego City is pretty much a family friendly version of GTA but honestly I like Lego City way better. This is definitely the best game available for Wii U right now. If you own a Wii U then you should definitely get this game.

They truly did an outstanding job with this game, as always both adults and kids can have a blast playing this game, and I would love to see more entries in the Lego City series. However I do have some minor disappointments with this game. It's the first Lego game not two have two player co-op, which has been a big praise of mine in all Lego games, and the annoyingly long load times. But these issues don't detract from what is one of the Wii U's best games. If you own a Wii U this is a must play, heck it's a must play even if you don't own a Wii U! It's just that good.… Expand

    I thought seeing as I was 20 years old that I'd find this game boring and childish. I was pleasantly mistaken. Whilst this game was clearly made for the younger players I found a lot of enjoyment out of the story, humor and sandbox gameplay.     Hands-down the best LEGO game ever. It's a "sandbox" game at its finest. There's a lot to do in LEGO City, tons of collectibles to get and some cool Nintendo related easter eggs to discover. The story is well written. Characters are funny with each having their own personalities. One of the most Impressive voice acting I heard in a game.     This game is really amazing. It's got so much content and never gets boring. The story line is awesome, it's got great humor. You gotta buy this if you own a Wii U, its definitely the best game out there at the moment.

    Great game, took a while for my 5yr old son to get the controls right but he seems ok with it now....
    I like the game but i feel there is something missing, i just cant put my finger on it.
    But all in all its great for the lil ones and a must for lego fans

Good gameplay, nice atmosphere, free roaming city and funny cutscenes. There is just so many things to do. The gameplay is quit easy but still challenging enough to not to get bored. For example, if you are following the mainI bought this game for my 5 year old kid. And wow, what does he like this game. But the game is not for kids only. I like it as much as he does. The gameplay is quit easy but still challenging enough to not to get bored. For example, if you are following the main story line and decide to do something else for a while, you can explore the city and look for hidden roads that lead you ontop of rooftops and all kind of hidden passages. There you will find secrets that unlock for example new characters and other great stuff. You can visit stores and buy all kinds of things from your collected money etc. etc. etc. A lot to do!!

    Its by far the best lego game out there. This game is a perfect fit for the Wii U. It uses the Wii U gamepad on a nice and funny way too. The whole game feels very polished and is therefore worth the money.

    If you like you can follow the main story line, but there is so much to do becides the standard story line. Lots of secrets and bonuses to explore with even sometimes funny references to the mario francise.

    If you are looking for a game with a nice atmosphere, great gameplay, funny cutscenes and a game that can be played by all ages. Than this game is an instant buy for the Wii U system. There is no better lego city game available.

    I give this a ten out of ten because its such a nice and polished game. I also give it a ten out of ten because i think its the best game for the Wii U system at this moment. Maybe there are better games if you compare it with all the games out there (for all machines), but for a game that can be played by all ages its just the best out there.    … Expand

    The game starts with EVERY element locked, even the ability to use your gamepad properly. You HAVE to play through the very boring and monotonous story.

    The gamepad is used well, I'll give it that. You get calls, and the audio and video come out of the pad (but go to the TV if you have your gamepad turned down really good work on that one developers).

    All and all this game is trivial easy and clearly written for the maturity and complexity level of children. If you have kids, this game might just be one of the better experiences out there, but we're talking very young children. Adolescents are not going this game interesting.    … Expand

The load screens were quite irritating, but it may not have been able to be avoided. The jokes I hear in the game are quite funny, but they get annoying over time (some, not all). They are bothersome if they are in the police station, where you go to get new things. The collectibles in levels seem a little easy to get in this game, you just need to get a certain number of things in a level. This game isn't particularly difficult, but it does take a long time to finish. Overall, 8.5/10… Expand

    The map is small and the quests are the the same standard lego gamd mechanics. The only difference between this game and a normal lego game is that you walk or drive to your quests on an open map. You need to farm to get bricks, since there isn't enough else to do to get a good amount of bricks. Other than the people and small sidequests, the whole world is, well, empty.
    Combat is awesome, but lacks difficulty.
    The whole game lacks replayablility.
    Other than these issues, the game is great. Definitely pick it up if you're a fan of funny games with expansive environments. Oh, and cops. Cops are cool.    … Expand

    This is an action-adventure that is similar to the other Lego Games. With that being said, it is a unique Lego game because this isn’t based off some third party content. This is Traveler Tales story so they decide to compile several different action movies, cop movies and private detective movies. Was it fun? It was an enjoyable game.     This is an action-adventure that is similar to the other Lego Games. With that being said, it is a unique Lego game because this isn’t based off some third party content. This is Traveler Tales story so they decide to compile several different action movies, cop movies and private detective movies.

    Was it fun?

    It was an enjoyable game. As all Traveler Tale games, there is an element of humor. The one character Frank Honey is a bit childish (kids may find him funny) but I found him to be annoying at times.

    Are there any similar games?

    The other Lego games and comparable.

    Favorite Character?

    I liked the main character Chase McCain. He had several costumes that you would switch between. He was a civilian, cop, robber, fire fighter, construction worker, astronaut, farmer and miner. Of all the costumes, my favorite was Robber. It was the most useful, he could open up doors, open safes and he had a paint ball gun. You don’t get to shoot people with it (kids game) but it is useful.

    Would you play it again?

    Its not my game, I borrowed it from a friend. If it was mine, I may throw it in some weekend. Mess around with it and unlock a lot more. If you play this game to its fullest, you’re looking at a 60 hour game.

    Any Complaints?

    Best Lego game up to date. For the first time I wanted to get 100% and find all the secrets, because the gameplay just feels so genuine. The story is funny and told at a very good pace. The open world elements are OK - missing some mini games though. To get 100% you have to play through at least 2 times, but that doesn't feel as tedious as it felt in Lego Star wars or Lego Indiana Jones.Best Lego game up to date.     At first I thought: Only a Lego game. But then I played the thing. It is clearly the best Lego game out there an one of the best games I ever played. Seriously: This is a new standard for open world games. The games playing area is huge and full of wonders.

    Lego City Undercover still got the fun but exactly a great open world lego game I've ever imagined. Still the best lego game yet! The gameplay is still good, the graphics are amazing.

    The first Lego sandbox game and boy is it good. Great voice acting, Great use of the game pad, Great music and tons of replay-ability. I'd say that the only thing bad about it is long loading times but other than that it's a definite must buy.

    This has really improved onto LEGO games. They used to be just about a movie or series of movies, with less stuff to do and whatnot. This game not only improves graphics, but also adds a hilarious and interesting story.

    I got to admit, i was amazingly impressed by this game! This game reminds me of GTA version of a Lego game. This time your a cop going after the bad guys. It's open world, and you can buy different stuff like cars. you'll catch yourself just driving around for hours enjoying the graphics and interaction with IA's. great sound track, voice actors, and it's hilarious!

The humor will appeal to many different people, the combat, while starting out stupidly simple, progressively becomes a challenge. I purposely dragged the game on for a week because of how much i enjoyed it! I was really upset to beat it! With loads of stuff to do, you'll never be bored!

    I’m probably gonna complain about things you love
    But LEGO City Undercover is easily my favorite one to date
    The charm and humor here is the best I’ve seen in a Lego game, which is surprising considering it features a unique cast of characters..
    A few parodies thrown in there…
    But there wasn’t 1 character I met throughout the journey that didn’t make me smile in one way or another…
    I was in love with the first half of this 12 hour campaign…
    You’re driving around the Lego city to each destination, stopping along your way to collect new costumes, or cars from doing time trials if you’d like… destroying and rebuilding during the campaign to complete tasks and find keys…
    And slowly you’re introduced to different undercover identities…
    This is where the games potential starts to shine, but it’s also where the game starts to fall apart…
    There are 15 chapters in total here and the missions in these chapters are mixed between in city with car chases and climbing buildings and then there’s the sections of the game that are inside of buildings…
    And this is where the game comes to a crawl.. Especially later on in the world...
    For starters... this is where you have to deal with the slow and boring combat system of reversing, mashing the o button and throwing handcuffs on enemies..
    It’s a little fun for a while, but gets old pretty fast…
    At first I don’t mind these more puzzle platformer sections of the game...
    They’re a break from the fairly small Lego world...
    This stops that world from getting boring…
    And it extends playtime as you’re switching through the different identities to throw different switches and break different items…
    I’d get to some annoying spots where the game forces you to go collect a ridiculous amount of blocks to complete a super build, which isn’t too bad since there are special blocks usually pretty close and you can use your communicator to see them in the world so you have an idea of where to go..
    But by time you unlock the color gun. .all of it becomes just so overwhelming…
    The game doesn’t reserve 2 different characters for these levels...
    which would’ve been much better
    Instead they want to throw them all in... making you constantly switch through characters to make little progress only to have to switch back to another and another and another
    The fire fighter and the color gun just became obnoxious…
    The fire extinguisher hardly works and the paint sections are just time wasters…
    Where sometimes it isn’t even about changing the color of a switch,, its painting a wall so you can climb it…
    The pacing just becomes awful in the final stretches and it ruins the charm and feel of the game completely…
    The puzzly grind is sort of what Lego games are about..
    so Lego fans rejoice…
    But in general, while this game genuinely surprised me during the first 7 chapters and had me smiling nonstop, I felt it just started wasting my time towards the end just because…
    Don’t let the final bits scare you away though..
    LEGO City Undercover is a great game full of laughs and fun even if like me, you hate Lego games.

    Excelente juego de mundo abierto, un sandbox para todas las edades... ademas de ser muy muy divertido, ningun videojuego me ha hecho reir tanto como este juego. Altamente recomendado. Incluso despues de pasarlo querras seguir jugando pues es divertido hasta conseguir todos los logros. El final es espectacular. y divertido. :)

    PRESENTATION: Graphically the game is pretty good, all the places are colorful and nice on the eyes, there are certain effects, like the light from the sun and the water that just makes this LEGO world so live. The music is catchy and reminicent of those 80's police shows. Tho it's not perfect, the frame rate is pretty inconsistent in some occasions and there are a big number of load times wich are pretty long in some cases.

    GAMEPLAY: Gameplay is like a mix between GTA and lego, you have a really big open world wich you can explore to find many collectables around the city, you can steal.....ummm....borrow cars from other people to explore the city and to get to your next mission, the missions are super fun to play and they all have puzzle elements, they are mostly linear, but still a great time and you can explore every nook and cranny to find many things in the level, the main gameplay element is the UNDERCOVER part, basically chase will disguise as many professions, each with their own specialty, like the police one has a grappling hook, the robber can break doors, the miner can break rocks and use dynamite, etc, all the costumes feel so unique and useful and with the ZL and ZR buttons you can switch on the fly.
    This game also has humor and there reference everywhere, to many TV series to also movies.
    The uses of the gamepad are really cool, and i don't find them to be annoying like other people say, but that's just me.

    Overall this game is nearly perfect, , but they are negatives anyway, so with all that said i'll give this game a 9/10    … Expand

    This is an incredible game. I had played other Lego games, but none of them was as good as this one, at all. The story is good and the charisma of the main character is excellent. I'll give it a 10 because people don't realise what a good game this is just because it's Lego.

The story builds up from there, it’s an experience worth coming back to. The gameplay is an experience to play as, using the gameplay from other LEGO games, they added more into it. The visuals and music are very pleasurable. This game comes with really funny humor and memorable characters with impressive voice acting. The post-game content is large, it feels that you want to collect everything in this game and find it’s hidden secrets. Also there’s Nintendo references in the game! This game is full of charm and excitement. The only problem is the really long loading times and I think there’s a mission where I soft-locked myself (I don’t fully remember though...).

    This game is both kid-friendly and the LEGO version of GTA, I pretty much love this game and this might be one of the funniest games I’ve ever played. There are a couple of flaws in it, but those flaws are ignored since this is a open-world sandbox LEGO game and I don’t remember those flaws. This game is simply fantastic, so the score is... 9.2!     This game is hilarious for all ages and entertaining from start to finish. All the characters have great and funny moments, my personal favourite being Officer Dunby who is a mixture of all the stereotypes of a policeman.

    The only flaw is the loading times. They can take up to a couple of minutes which slows down the overall game experience. Aside from that, this game is filled with charm and memorable moments.
    A must buy on the Wii U

    And for the completionist, there are a ton of collectives to find and the way their found is unique in it's own way! The long downloation time between certain parts doesnt even bother me because I'm just too busy appreciating the fact    Masterpiece!

    LEGO City Undercover is a solid exclusive title for Nintendo’s machine; especially with the severe lack of software currently on the market. If you own a Wii U and can tolerate the shortcomings of the LEGO series it is easy to recommend. Those who have grown tired of the massive collect-a-thons though might find themselves rolling their eyes again at the tedium that ensues.

    LEGO City is a great game - but I do wonder just how many limitations the hardware had on the final product. Perhaps it has nothing to do with the Wii U, but for Traveller's Tales to omit multiplayer altogether? That seems an unlikely choice, considering their previous work.

    Lego City: Undercover brings legos to GTA style open world. I just miss co-op from the previous lego games and my kids didn't understand long loading times. They thought game dowloaded something from the net. [May 2013]
