FAST Racing NEO is very close to perfection, it is how F-Zero Wii U should look like :) I'm just curious why Nintendo didn't provide F-Zero brand for this amazing fast racing game. In conclusion
FAST Racing NEO is must have game for almost Wii U owners especially for such miserable price.

    Peace :)

Such a gorgeous game, and fully exhilarating. The only thing that holds this back is the steep learning curve and intense difficulty. I really liked this game, the graphics are kinda "low res" (I usually play pc games) but the feeling of speed is awesome, my kids also love it :) I hope this also comes out on pc so we can enjoy it even more!

The game inherits the whole spirit of the F-Zero franchise and takes it to a whole new level. Great graphics, sound and of course the price! It´s like the best mix of Wipeout and F-Zero a fan could ask for.

For only 15 dollars you can have a great futuristic racing game. That should be enough reason for you to buy it. Although it has very few circuits, the graphics and gameplay are just so good... And it is completely addicting!

It's hard to imagine that a game like FAST Racing NEO even exists. With tight controls, varied courses, and a challenging, but satisfying difficulty curve FAST Racing NEO manages to impress with great success.

The game sets itself apart from other futuristic racing games by introducing a mechanic that makes you phase between two colors. If your color matches the obstacle you drive over you will get a boost, but if the color is wrong you will be slowed down. Mastering this tecnique is integral to doing well in the game, and offers a layer of depth that keeps you on your toes and simultaneously sucks you into the gorgeous game even more.

With a high skill ceiling, ten vehicles, sixteen courses, four difficulties, online and split-screen multiplayer the game encourages you to play it both as a competitive game and as a party game that will have you and your friends at the edge of your seat.

There are a few design oversights that might leave a sense of confusion or minor annoyance. With split-screen multiplayer you can only play full cups and not individual stages. It's a shame if you dislike some courses in a cup and would rather skip over them. There is also the occasional odd speed bump within the course that seem nonsensical and is not telegraphed. It makes it look like you are doing something wrong, when you seemingly are not.

That said, the minor complaints are so far outweighed by the positives of the game that it is hard to detract the game based on it. It is the first game I have played from Shin'en and I'm eager to see what more they have produced and will produce in the future.

first time I saw it I thought: Meh, F-zero ripoff.
But then I played it at Gamescom and I was hooked.
The game-play mechanic works very good and is a solid feature.
you might have to adjust to the speed as it is lightning fast.
    no easy game.
This is no F-zero ripoff, its the successor to F-zero.
Nintendo should have these guys make the next installment.

There is no difficulty level either, so if you aren't up to the challenge, prepare to repeat over and over until you get better. Levels are only unlocked as you take 3rd or better overall, so you will have to repeat them until you memorize the tracks. It will be a challenging game. Hope you are up for it. My patience just isn't there anymore for a game such as this.

Fast Racing Neo feels new and fresh yet it’s almost a clone of F-Zero. Fast Racing Neo does enough to differ itself from F Zero and introduces new concepts that I fell improved on the high speed racing concept.
Fast Racing Neo’s gameplay is fun, dodging meteors, avoiding explosions, and landing on platforms at high speeds always keeps the action exciting. When you're racing there are two different colored boost pads (blue and orange) that give you a boost when you're that color. To change your color you hit L1, if you're not the right color your vehicle will slow down. There are also Boost orbs all over the track that fill your boost meter when you drive into them. Other than that Fast racing neo is about mastering tracks and figuring out when the best time to boost is. As for the difficulty, it starts at Hard and gets harder depending on which sonic level your on. This game is not for a casual player. It is made for big time F Zero fans and racing game fans. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. Every race is close but when you go anywhere above the supersonic level the game becomes a one mistake then restart type of game which is a bit frustrating. The championship mode is where you unlock all the cars, circuits, and difficulty and plays out a lot like mario kart where each circuit has 4 tracks and there are 3 difficulty levels (in every MK except 8). Other than that it’s just racing and trying to have the most points at the end of the circuit. No story, no missions, no nothing unique or different that differs it from other racing games besides the gameplay. Another mode is Time Trials which is what it sounds like (if you don’t know what time trials are then you shouldn’t play racing game). The next mode is hero mode which is only unlocked when Hypersonic difficulty is unlocked which sadly most players won't get to due to the insane difficulty. Hero mode is even harder and makes the boost meter also act as a shield meter making it easy to blow up. There also is a multiplayer option to go against friends locally. While there were two players on the screen the frame rate dips at times but for the most part maintains the normal 60 the single player has. When 3-4 players are on the screen the Frame rate goes to 30 which is annoying for a fast paced racing game where one mistake can cost you the race. You also can only pick circuits and not individual maps. This is my personal favorite and is really fun even with 3-4 players. The last mode is online multiplayer which is the only mode when I didn’t enjoy a lot. The online multiplayer loading takes longer than it should and sometimes the game puts you into a race that already started which isn’t that bad if the spectator screen wasn’t a complete mess, I found the screen would clip through the floor a lot and I couldn't tell what was happening due to there being no minimum. Luckily it redeems itself when the multiplayer works as the game rarely lags. The only problem is that some people are really good and there is no system to match equally skilled players. The game looks great, I couldn't look at it much since I was too busy flying down the track but the backgrounds really help bring more to the race. Giant robots stepping onto the track or dodging meteors really where some of the highlights I had while playing this. Too bad most tracks didn’t have things like this and for the most part were normal tracks but still had great backgrounds. The game controls well even though a little floaty, but since the cars are flying I’ll give it a pass. Overall Fast Racing Neo is not for casual gamers but it does enough to make it’s experience not feel like F-Zero which was one of my biggest worries before I got it. For only $15 on the Nintendo Eshop this game is %100 worth it. Maybe if this does well Nintendo might make a new F-Zero as well. If you’re able to overcome the difficulty you're sure to enjoy Fast racing neo on the wii U. 8.3/10 -Infinite

This "game" is about perfect running. In a match between good players the only moment of interactivity will be at the start, after that, everyone will have perfect trajectory and, without any kind of a weapon present, there will be nothing to do to shuffle places around effectively making an online match a time trial run.

TL;DR: This tech demo has next to none actual multiplayer game in it...

I really wanted to love Fast Racing Neo, and it certainly would if visuals alone were a game, be a to own racing game on near any system. It is gorgeous, and the environments create wonderful immersion with their style. The sound effects scheme is a bit repetitive though. And the music, while well suited to the game is not particularly memorable.

And the music, while well suited to the game is not particularly memorable.

    As for game play?

Falls flat, because the racing controls are just inconsistent. Speeds, angle, are all specific track and even specific turn specific... to an insanely obnoxious and nonsensical point. Try and take a similar turn elsewhere, at similar speeds with the same racer? Sorry, get ready to watch the racer react against what all previous experience from earlier tracks would make you expect it to be. (Even happens with similar turns on the same track.) This alone kills Fast Racing Neo as a racing game.

    Other cons,

No way to change the default control layout. And the default layout is rather poor with the placement of the gas button on Wii U game pad and controller pro.

Pointless 'You'll crash' gimmicks/angles on some tracks where your race will fly off (somewhat arbitrarly it feels) no matter how hard you try to not. And you'll be treated to a last place position which will just suck the last remaining bits of fun out of the Fast Racing Neo experience.

It ultimately is very sloppy on controls for a racing game, which is a death nail in the genre.

Highly overrated! Why, because this game is lacking depth in many ways and other bad design decisions:
    - No car tuning whatsoever
    - Not enough event variety
    - Weird save-game mechanism

It could have be a really good game if some more development would have put into it.

This game can go 2 ways for me. Either super fun or so annoying I want to smash my gamepad. The speed is insane. If you crash once you will find yourself in last place almost every time and it goes so fast I have no way of dodging some of these things without slowing to a halt. It's an okay game at best.

Fast Racing Neo, as the first word clearly tells, is VERY fast! The game is very exciting as you speed through 16 very distinct, well-made tracks. The gorgeous visuals only add to the enjoyment when you're immersed in all of the game's locations. The phase shifting mechanic is also a fun element that adds to the intensity of the game.

The game is, by no means, perfect or for everyone however. For those who enjoyed the crazy difficult challenges of F-Zero, like myself, this game will be a treat, but the bar may be set too high for many others, which is a shame because certain content can only be accessed by beating the merciless bots in Championship mode.
Online mode was fun for a little while, but it brought another major problem to light: the game's glitches. Less than a month after release, players have already found extremely broken shortcuts to win every race, thus making online racing unplayable. You can also see these glitches at work when you see the worldwide fastest times for each cup. You can't be too hard on it though, since this game was developed by a VERY small group. Hopefully, there will be a patch.
Local multiplayer is probably the best part about this game, supporting 4-player racing.

Despite the glitches online, the racing mechanics, track design, and difficulty in single player and local multiplayer make this game a steal at only $15 on the eShop!

Visually this game is absolutely gorgeous by any console standards, with a smooth 60 fps and zero slow down for single player as well as local 2 player co-op.

However, both the best and worst part of the game is its difficulty. Fast Racing Neo is a very challenging game, but for me it walks the line between difficult and frustrating. Making even the smallest mistake can knock you out of the top 3 and by the time you respawn after a crash -which happens fairly quickly btw- you'll be in (second to) last place for sure. Even the lowest difficulty setting is quite a challenge to pass, and higher difficulties will require full mastering of the game's mechanics, lightning fast reactions and near-perfect races.

All in all, this is a good game that's good value for your money. The difficulty wall can be very frustrating at times, but the game is fun, fast, arcade like and beautiful. I'd say it's an indie game with AAA qualities.

This game takes up the mantle of F-Zero & puts a unique spin on it by adding boost pads that require you to change color in order to use them. You also collect orbs on the track to fill up your boost meter. It's probably the most fun you'll have in a racing game on the system besides Mario Kart 8.

Totally worth getting on the Wii U or Switch, possibly both!

8.6 - Not a whole lotta racing games nowadays that are really good, so this one stands out. It runs great definitely above 40 FPS and tracks are crazy and challenging. Although don't compare this to F-zero because they are completely different.

Wow!!! What a surprise! The graphics, the speed, it's just an amazing game! A must-have on WiiU. It will get very difficult in the later Stages, but i can just encourage you to keep on playing, its very rewarding when you master it!

All those who can’t get over the fact that Nintendo forgot about F-Zero can now play a really decent indie substitute. The same goes for all of you who miss Wipeout. [02/2016, p.63]

Although a bit clinical, succeeds in being a nice little racing game. [Feb 2016]

Forsaking weapons for furiously fast racing, this is a worthy stand-in - not usurper - to F-Zero GX. [Feb 2016, p.80]
