    For the first hour of this game I was a bit disappointed. Only the battles are 3d, the remainder of the game is a 2D map. The controls don't suit the Wii U, you keep trying to use an analogue stick and find the character stopping dead. Some of the music feels like it's on a ten second loop that makes you want to turn the sound down.     However, I took a break after 60 minutes playtime, came back the following day and found myself getting really into it. If you make that effort to persist then it pays off. I found myself drawn in by the plot and genuinely wanting to know what happens. The gear and skill system suddenly starts to make sense, you realise that it's quite hard to get lost and the difficulty increases are gradual... you start to have fun.

    As you can tell this review is after 2 hours playtime so it's not comprehensive but I definitely recommend giving this game a chance. It is JRPG by numbers but right now the Wii U lacks a good JRPG and this comes close.    … Expand

    There are a lot of classic RPGs out there on PSN and the Wii U's eShop and many of them are definitely worth playing, but Alphadia Genesis is not one of those - unless there is an insatiable desperation for a turn-based RPG, that is.

    It sets out to offer a nostalgic JRPG experience, and it achieves that. It might lack the style and substance of a truly good game, but I can think of worse ways for JRPG veterans to eat away a lazy Sunday or two than this.

    A little more effort on the part of the writers would have gone a long way toward making the narrative and characters less insufferable, but as-is most JRPG fans should be well-versed enough in this banality to look past it and enjoy the game for what it is.
