The original games themselves are great. Zombies Ate My Neighbors is a 8/10, Ghoul Patrol is a 7/10, but this release of the game is pretty weak. I don’t mind not having simplistic bonus features, but not being able to remap the controls is a huge hit, especially since the control scheme they used feels like it was thought out at all - and it’s not what the original control layout was asThe original games themselves are great. I don’t mind not having simplistic bonus features, but not being able to remap the controls is a huge hit, especially since the control scheme they used feels like it was thought out at all - and it’s not what the original control layout was as well. They made no changes to the games themselves except the controls, makes no sense. I find myself dying simply because the controls go against formats that I have used throughout any other game in my life. Would have been nice if it had some quality of life options and improvements as well, because otherwise, they’re just the original game. The source games are great, this release is alright. Expand

Zombies Ate My Neighbors And Ghoul Patrol is a fine combo package of a cult classic of yesteryear. A credible and well spirited effort has brought these two titles to modern systems near perfectly. Any issue that I have are due to the problems inherent in either title; Ghoul Patrol is not as good as Zombies and both suffer from hard to navigate level design at times.

Ultimately Zombies Ate My Neighbors is a good game that’s sadly been poorly treated with this port. There’s not enough that’s been added in here to make it worthwhile for those who have fond memories of playing it back in 1993, and the rough edges will likely put off most newcomers.

On the one hand, getting Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Ghoul Patrol on a modern platform is great, especially on the Switch, where docked and portable play has always served as the system's strength. The former is still a classic title that holds up well even if the difficulty can scare people away, while the latter is good but not as ambitious or polished as its predecessor. On the other hand, the inability to disable bezels is a shame, but the unclear save system and the unnecessary control changes ruin things for new and old players alike. This isn't the ideal way to play any of these games, but it works when no other options are available.
