Yu-Gi-Oh on a handheld. I could finish the review with that, but this package packs a stronger punch. Since the trading card game changed a lot since the first iteration of Yu-Gi-Oh, Legacy of The Duelist: Link Evolution invites new and returning players to learn the new mechanics and rules that were introduced with Link Monsters. Or you could always stick the good old Blue-Eyes and Dark Magicians, with over 9000 cards to choose from, the choice is yours. Multiplayer is great if you want a real challenge and compete with the best and local battles to duel with your Switch buddy who is across the room, which is my personal favorite. Another interesting game mode like Battle Pack Sealed Play is a nice addition, which allows the player to buy a pack of around 45 cards themed around certain monsters(no micro-transactions, only game credit), and then it gives you 5 matches to play with the cards either online, offline or local. When you are done with the 5 matches, you get to keep the cards you bought, even if you lost. If you want a change of pace when gaming becomes stale, load up Konami’s latest entry in the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise, and watch time fly by. Expand

Building your own deck is easy and cards unlock very quickly, in fact you start out with a basic beat-down deck that is more than capable of beating the early opponents. Once you beat a computer character, you can do a "reverse duel", where you play as the person you just defeated. After beating that, you can unlock a much harder version of that character.

The game is a perfect balance of storyline and straight up dueling. If you want, you can skip all the cutscenes and use your own deck, making it like some of the Yugioh games of old. Or, you can read through all the story text and use the deck accurate to the character you're playing as, the choices are yours. In that way, I think the game will appeal to all Yugioh fans.

On the negative side, there is the repetitive music. There are only 5 or 6 battle tracks, and for most of the story you only hear 3 of them. Also, the VRAINS campaign has only 4 characters (unless you download the update).

This is THE Yu-Gi-Oh game to play, it's the most definitive TCG game available, and has up to current meta even, (salamangreat, and sky striker.) that said it excels in the ability to play -any- deck you want online and have matches against people with various other decks, almost never seeing the same one twice.

The cards are distributed very fairly and quickly, every time you win an offline/single player duel in any mode, you get between 1000-2000 points, and 400 points are typically to a pack, except the entry Grandpa Muto pack which is 200 points, while a loss is 450-950 points, not to mention when you win you get 3 cards from the person you're facing's deck, and if you lose it's 1 card, again all offline only.

Online, I've been running blackwings and have a fairly decent winrate (I'd say 85%, to give you an idea of how people don't use meta) using Full Armor Master, and Toadally Awesome. This game is not region restricted, you can play with people in Japan (who've had the game a bit longer), or anyone else who has the game anywhere else in the world, as a result the banlist is World's 2018 which means no Raigeki, no Harpie's Duster, but you have Soul Charge, Grinder Golem, and some other useful goodies... And if you want to just play offline or with friends? No banlist whatsoever(Untested for friends, but in the first game, if you were invited to a match by your friend, you could use any deck, no banlist enforced.)..

This game has EVERY(non-promo, not region restricted) card up to Hidden Summoners (Prank-kids and Mayakashi's), so no Pot of Extravagance, but fear not, as Konami is fully backing this game I assume we'll see DLC updates like we did in the first game... But don't buy this game based on that assumption, know that this is currently at November 2018 in the west as far as card catalog goes, and there's no Dangers as they were TCG only, and this game is global.

Unsure if you want to buy? As of right now you can get this game for FREE*, The promo cards are currently worth MORE than the game, that means you can buy the game, open the pack, and 1 by 1, sell your Cynet Codec for $22, Micro Coder for $15-$16, and Progleo for $8-$10, this is not only the BEST Yu-Gi-Oh game ever release, it also comes with the BEST promo cards ever released for a Yu-Gi-Oh game, as they were cards in a structure deck that we never got that are core to Cyberse Code link summons.

I do NOT give 10/10's lightly, this game tickles my fancy in all the right ways possible, and this is absolutely the best Yu-Gi-Oh game I have ever played, that means it's better than all those illegal emulation alternatives too... Partly because having all the cards at once is daunting, but because you have to progress and earn cards, online is FUN which is hard to say about those games where everyone runs only latest meta and testing for tournaments.

My verdict: Buy this game if you're a Yu-Gi-Oh fan, I bought a Nintendo Switch JUST FOR THIS GAME, and I have not put it down since, I did it because I enjoyed the first game, and when I saw the title was coming out for Switch I was a bit unnerved, but I still caved, bought a switch, got it along side Smash Ultimate, Super Mario Maker 2, ETC to play for the month leading up to this game, and I already have more playtime in this game than any of those, not to say they're bad, they're great, but this is better (IMO).

If you wanna play strictly for single player experience I suggest this game 100% with 9000+ cards Konami really put love into this game and for 29.99 cant beat that price.
Stay away from ranked as everyone uses decks that are considered tier 0 and 1 decks very boring people and opponents in those terms. But literally once in a blue moon you'll face someone doing the same by building a random archetype deck and they are testing the waters as they love that archetype. If you love Yugioh then pick this baby up dont let my low score scare you off. It's just the multiplayer that urks me.
Also 3 mins to make a no e in ranked is to dang long. Make it 1 min maybe that will help with weeding out the meta decks.

Wins do not come from skill, but from pure raw luck, you just need to hope and pray you don't have a garbage opening hand full of high-level Monsters you can't even use.
I know I could just use a deck I build myself, but the point of this game is to feel like I'm playing the anime, and I can't do that without decks themed around the characters I'm playing as. The game fails at it's "play through the anime" selling point. If I was gonna play a game where I build my own deck, I'd either just play the actual card game in real life, or I'd go play Tag Force.
Oh, and not to mention sometimes the game crashes during a duel.
When I got to the duel with Dartz, that's when I decided to call it quits and play a game with actual gameplay in it.

The ability for the game to run the cards effects reliably works out pretty well. There's only a hand full of times where I felt the AI was being too dumb or not letting me do something I felt I should have been able to. It's interesting to play through the stories while simultaneously trying to use each characters strategies. Thankfully you can of course build your own decks through the pack you purchase in game with the points systems if you become frustrated with the cold black heart of the cards. My biggest pet peeves while playing this is that giving some of the characters more powerful versions of their decks throws things off forcing you to use your own built deck a little too often, and that this is the first game my switch has ever had trouble running. As of 50 hours into the game it has crashed 3 times, which makes it literally the only game I own on my switch to crash. Pro tips for anyone playing. You are rewarded points still if you lose the match so you can literally just forfeit for enough points to purchase the card packs you want provided you have unlocked the vendor. Definitely worth a purchase for any fan of the game or show. Expand

For example, in the duel against Bones, you have to use sword and shield to defeat his strong zombie monsters who have 0 DEF; in the duel against PaniK, his cards keep you from attacking, so your key card is Catapult Turtle. The matches are not always balanced very well, so winning a "reverse duel" against the story deck can be tough. But this is a minor issue. The decision that the player can chose between their own deck and the well-crafted story decks is also great. And the switch controls make it easier to play with touch controls.
However, I have one major complaint: The game is too slow. It's not possible to change the gameplay speed in the options. Even compared to old titles such as NIghtmare Troubadour or Stairway to the Destined Duel (for the Game Boy Advaced!), the gameplay is so slow. The game constantly asks where you want to put a card, although it does not matter at all for the first generation of Yu-Gi-Oh. The AI takes a long time to deliberate. For a simple game like first generation Yu-Gi-Oh, this is taking a ridiculous amount of time.
Other minor issues are the boring presentation: The story is skippable, the backgrounds and music extremely simple and monotonous. But even when it is watered down like this, Yu-Gi-Oh is still a lot of fun.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution covers all of the card updates and additions from the past 2 decades giving us over 9,000 cards to build our dream decks with. With some of our most loved monsters, spell or trap cards from the earliest (and most beloved, in my opinion) the first season of Yu-Gi-Oh! To some of the most recent expansion, Vrains. There’s a lot of customization to be had with your decks not to mention the thrill of playing online or in Sealed and Draft modes, this is definitely a title that any fan of TCGs or Yu-Gi-Oh will really enjoy.
