I love the first game, seriously! But this is one of the worst games i have ever played:

-First of all, the story. The story is bad, since a lot of boring new characters appear and the humor that characterized the first installment doesnt appear at all. -The graphics are pretty nice but the 30 FPS are not tolerable. -The gameplay is generic so dont expect too much. -Dlc and general

    Dont buy this game! :P

This game it´s not too bad, really... It´s terrible! Wtf the developers did with Yooka Laylee?! The first was bad, but this is awful.... What a bad experience! Go with Mario.... It´s a lot better man.
I hope.... I hope that the next game are better, but with the awful companies today....... I want my sega dreamcast man.

It honestly feels like a waste of 12 hours once you get to the final level. Everything was quite enjoyable up to that point. Then comes this super cheap 30 min piece of crap. Love me hard platformers (Hollow Knight for example) but this is beyond frustrating. What a waste of time.

What annoyed me the most in this game is how frustrating it is to get all the coins, which you even need to progress in the game later on. It shows you constantly that you missed a coin but can't get to it anymore, forcing you to kill your character and retry from the checkpoint. For some coins you need to jump on an enemy to reach a higher place, but if the second jump doesn't workWhat annoyed me the most in this game is how frustrating it is to get all the coins, which you even need to progress in the game later on. It shows you constantly that you missed a coin but can't get to it anymore, forcing you to kill your character and retry from the checkpoint. For some coins you need to jump on an enemy to reach a higher place, but if the second jump doesn't work perfectly, the enemy is gone and doesn't respawn. Guess what you have to do? Exactly, kill your character and try again. Up to twenty times if must be. I really don't mind a certain difficulty in my platformers, but this one just stinks because it's so tedious and frustrating.

Presentation is fine, controls are bad, story and characters are whatever.

It’s such a shame that Nintendo have little interest in developing a sixth DKC, but at the same time it’s incredible how Playtonic nailed the formula so well. Fun levels, on point difficulty, visuais and soundtrack very well executed and a slew of new ideas really makes The Impossible Lair feel like a sequel to a series that we like so much, and not just a cheap knock-off.

I had doubts concerning Playtonic's ability to evolve past their '90s game design mentality, but they've proved this naysayer wrong with a strong rebound performance! [Issue #43 – November/December 2019, p. 18SH]

Even with plenty of superb 2D platformers releasing in recent years, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair easily belongs alongside the best the generation has to offer thanks to excellent level design and platforming that is evocative of past classics from the genre.
