Nov 5, 2019The most fun I've had with a 2D platformer since DKC Tropical Freeze, which in turn is a platfomer that- barring the other DKC titles- I enjoyed immeasurably more than any other 2D platformer on the market. Highly recommended.
-
Oct 9, 2019Amazing... I am fan of the DK trylogy in SNES and this game is more like snes games than DKC retuns and tropical freeze, very good music very good lairs I would like a donkey kong game made from the team of Yooka- Layiee

Oct 11, 2019Similarly to the first game, this one is being trashed by many people for what are obviously the wrong reasons. If this game looks interesting to you, you will love it. Great exploring and puzzles on the overworld, and fun platforming levels.

Oct 9, 2019this is a fantastic 2.5D platformer. It's also 60 fps both docked an undocked!

Oct 25, 2019Well after playing this game for 2 weeks, it reminds me of a combo of Zelda and Donkey Kong Country.
Bottom line Yooka Laylee the impossible Lair is downright FUN -

Oct 8, 2019Really fun game. Good graphics, sound. One of the funnest platformers i've purchased in a while. I def prefer the 2.5d lay out over 3d. Recomended, highly!

Oct 8, 2019Love this game!!! I don't know whether this or dk is better, but it's still a great game!
-
Oct 8, 2019Bardzo dobra gra platformowa. Piekna i kolorowa i bardzo grywalna. Czołowka platformerow na switchu
-
Oct 8, 2019Great game. It doesn’t beat DKTF in any way, but it’s a really nice platformer. Good graphics and nice control. A bit looser than the DK serie.
-
Oct 10, 2019DON'T believe the negative reviews (which are all posted by 1 guy with multiple accounts), 'cause it runs like a charm (60fps) and the only DLC is a tonic pack, which costs just $/€4,- (and is 100% optional)!
-
Oct 16, 2019If you’re a fan of 2D platformers, especially the original SNES DKC games, don’t miss this one!
-
Oct 9, 2019Okay, but doesnt ground breaking. Although i like the music and graphics, the gameplay is nothing special.

Oct 8, 2019This game it´s not too bad, really... It´s terrible! Wtf the developers did with Yooka Laylee?! The first was bad, but this is awful.... What a bad experience! Go with Mario.... It´s a lot better man.
I hope.... I hope that the next game are better, but with the awful companies today....... I want my sega dreamcast man. -
Dec 28, 2019Gran juego de plataformas, divertidísimo de jugar. 60 fps sólidos, gran diseño de niveles y buena banda sonora.
Lo único malo que puedo decir es la poca variedad de enemigos. -
Nov 30, 2019This game is pretty much if every level is Click Clock Woods except for the first level, which is Path Of Pain.

Nov 3, 2020Classic platformer with original ideas, secrets to search for, challenges to beat and on top of that world map with puzzles to crack. Really good package.
-
Nov 22, 2020It honestly feels like a waste of 12 hours once you get to the final level. Everything was quite enjoyable up to that point. Then comes this super cheap 30 min piece of crap. Love me hard platformers (Hollow Knight for example) but this is beyond frustrating. What a waste of time.
-
Oct 29, 2021I am playing this on my ps5 so late. I had no idea the people from Rare were behind of this game. I am playing this with the same vibe and happiness I did when I was a kid while playing Donkey Kong Country 2. Maybe DK has more memorable characters but being to replicate that feeling feels so good.

Mar 17, 2022Gameplay wise YLatIL is a really good game with diversified level design but not on par with something like DKC: Tropical Freeze or Rayman Legends. However, YLatIL has the best overworld I've ever seen in a 2D platforming game. The overworld reminds me of Mario 64. In total I love this game and it's easily my game of the year 2019.

Jan 27, 2021This game is an absolute joy. If you once loved the dk country trilogy, give this one a fair chance. You won't regret it :)
-
Jan 4, 2020this game is like a mix between DK tropical freeze and link's awakening, and I love it. although I collected all 48 bees and still can't seem to beat the impossible lair. I guess it really is impossible

Feb 24, 2020Not only is the 2d platforming incredible with an amazing dynamic to change back and forth with the levels changing, but the over world might have been even more fun. Finding every collectible is a must for this game. All puzzles feel rewarding to complete

Nov 29, 2020I want to love this game but I don't. It's good for what it is, a knockoff Donkey Kong style game. Some of the levels are fun, but it becomes boring and starts to feel like a chore. I might be halfway through the game and I don't think I'll finish it, esp since the last level is apparently very difficult and I've already lost interest in getting that far.

Apr 28, 2022Ok, this is game of the year 2019 for me. It's so great it truly is the revival of rare. I love the level design both in the levels and in the overworld. The game is pretty hard even if you do beat all the levels to get the bees. I love the jokes the game makes too. The music is great and it honestly has the best overworld ever because to get to a level, you have to solve puzzles... genius.
-
Apr 24, 2022The game is nicely animated and fun to play... Main issue is you are constantly stopped from playing with various conversations you have to click though, and cut scenes that take up more time than they are worth.... Trim the fat, and find a way to tell the player what's happening without locking everything up and this game would be a lot better.

Jul 8, 2023Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is nothing short of a generational masterpiece. Every single aspect of this game is creative, engaging, and most importantly FUN.

Jun 4, 2020It’s such a shame that Nintendo have little interest in developing a sixth DKC, but at the same time it’s incredible how Playtonic nailed the formula so well. Fun levels, on point difficulty, visuais and soundtrack very well executed and a slew of new ideas really makes The Impossible Lair feel like a sequel to a series that we like so much, and not just a cheap knock-off.
-
Nintendo Force MagazineApr 29, 2020I had doubts concerning Playtonic's ability to evolve past their '90s game design mentality, but they've proved this naysayer wrong with a strong rebound performance! [Issue #43 – November/December 2019, p. 18SH]

Oct 23, 2019Even with plenty of superb 2D platformers releasing in recent years, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair easily belongs alongside the best the generation has to offer thanks to excellent level design and platforming that is evocative of past classics from the genre.
