Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is the best iteration of Monolith Soft’s impressive open-world masterpiece. I’m so happy that the game is on a platform many people own, so they can finally experience the wondrous world of Mira for the first time, just as I did in 2015. Xenoblade Chronicles X is the most impressive execution of the open-world concept I’ve ever experienced, and the fact that it retains that lofty designation for me even after ten years and countless open-world RPGs is a testament to Monolith Soft’s monumental achievement in RPG game design.

There were hardly any faults in the Xenoblade Chronicles X experience to begin with, but the Definitive Edition elevates the game in every respect. It’s MonolithSoft’s finest work, revitalised.

Instead of going the easy route, Monolith Soft went the extra mile and added meaningful new content and quality-of-life features that actually improved on what was already a masterpiece experience. The Definitive Edition treatment makes Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition one of the best JRPGs on the Switch, and a must-play for fans of the genre.

Xenoblade Chronicles X isn’t a game for everyone. It doesn’t have the kind of guided story a lot of RPGs do, and its dense systems can be a lot to digest. But it’s a game with a wholly unique vision, and only gets better the more time you put into it. It’s hard to think of a bigger high note the Nintendo Switch could be going out on.

What if “Halo” was a Japanese role-playing adventure written by the guy whose pitch for “Final Fantasy VII” was rejected because it was deemed “too dark and complicated”?

The release of Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition means that the entire Xenoblade quadrilogy is now playable on Nintendo Switch. If you’re playing the enhanced Wii U title for the first time, you’ll undoubtedly be dazzled by its breathtaking open world and astonishingly deep battle system. Series veterans will also appreciate quality-of-life changes like an improved tutorial, better navigation as well as the overall cleaner visuals whether you’re playing in docked or handheld mode.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is an expertly crafted revamp that gives us all the bells and whistles we could wish for in terms of graphical upgrades. However, it's actually Monolith Soft's attention to clever gameplay revisions that impresses most here. This is X streamlined and modernised, carefully recast and reset in order to play better than ever. Additional characters, a new ending, and all that snazzy stuff is all well and good, and fans will be excited by the fresh revelations that occur, but it's in how everything flows so much better now that we reckon the hardcore will find themselves most impressed. And for newcomers a recommendation is even easier; this is up there with the all-time great sci-fi RPGs and an absolute must-play.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is the best version of one of the best RPGs ever. With a lot of substantial improvements, new content that fans will enjoy and a world of large dimensions, we are facing a must-have gem on Nintendo Switch. A game that you have to play if you love the genre, as well as an outstanding swan song for the hybrid console.

In Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition the setting is the star, and Planet Mira remains one of the most dangerous yet inviting worlds you can experience.

The best Wii U port to Nintendo Switch, as they not only brought the adventure over intact, but also took the time to consider those who had already played it and wanted a more polished product. This includes graphical improvements, quality of life tweaks, and the inclusion of additional story content.

If the excellent core of Xenoblade Chronicles X that didn't need to be renewed wasn't enough, such as its vast and excellent combat and RPG mechanics, a living and highly explorable world, and an excellent and addictive soundtrack, Monolith Software's remaster also manages to get the right improvements to revitalize the game for the Nintendo Switch. Whether you're a veteran of the game or, like me, a newcomer wanting to explore the world of Mira for the first time, Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition truly lives up to its name as the ultimate version to experience what can easily be considered one of the best JRPGs available for the Nintendo Switch.

If it was already a special game on Wii U, now, thanks to all the changes, new features, and—above all—the epilogue, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is also one of the best JRPGs on Nintendo Switch. An adventure as colossal as a giant robot and as unforgettable as an alien planet you don't want to leave.

Xenoblade Chronicles X already proved its mettle when it was considered by many to be one of the standout titles on the Wii U, and its arrival on the Nintendo Switch only solidifies its place among the console’s best. While the pacing can feel glacial at times, the game’s rich world and new content make it an inviting experience for newcomers and a rewarding return for veterans.

Monolith Soft brings back to light one of Tetsuya Takahashi’s most singular JRPGs, originally buried in the depths of Wii U. The absence of the GamePad is more than compensated for by new content and improvements that refine both the pace of the battles and the narrative experience, making the adventure even more engaging. Living up to its name, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is the best way to lose yourself for countless hours among the wonders of Mira.

Every piece of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition feels meticulously placed. Pieces like it’s beautiful world, well paced combat and music, and gameplay variety give you the motivation to keep exploring every rock formation, combat encounter, and unique mission. Not every game has all these pieces that fit together this well, but this game does and it does it very well.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is bigger and better than ever on Nintendo Switch. The numerous quality-of-life upgrades and additions make the experience even more satisfying, and there simply is nothing like roaming the world of Mira inside your Skell. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is nothing but an exquisite return to one of the most ambitious games released in the previous generation. Now on the Nintendo Switch, it's more ambitious, more accessible, slicker and more welcoming than ever before. The successful audiovisual work has brought the 2015 original to our time where it fits perfectly, its enormous, varied and gorgeous world is a thrill to explore, the very dynamic combat system grips players from the first moment, and there's even an extra chapter that adds a new layer of challenge to the experience.

It’s worth appreciating the efforts Monolith Soft has gone to in making Xenoblade Chronicles X accessible to a much larger potential crowd. The studio could easily have left its elements as they were, but the quality-of-life features go a long way to alleviating the small but notable issues. Even for those who had already played the original, those touches ensure it’s a delight to play, and the new epilogue is very much in keeping of what fans of the series have come to expect. Xenoblade Chronicles X’s Definitive Edition is exactly that, and another excellent late addition to the Switch’s bulging library.

Ten years on, Xenoblade Chronicles X is finally a complete game with the Definitive Edition, and it’s still one of the most bafflingly ambitious games I’ve ever played. It attempts and succeeds with so much, even if not every aspect is on par with the majesty of Mira. It can be slow and tedious at times, but even after more than 90 hours, a part of me didn’t want the adventure to end. We don’t know what’s next for Monolith Soft, but after this I’d be overjoyed to see more from Elma, Lin, and everyone in New Los Angeles.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a phenomenal improvement on a rough but fantastic game. In terms of new content, however, it can feel very rushed and unsatisfying. Aside from that, this is still the same Xenoblade Chronicles X fanatics have come to love.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is superior to its classic version. The gameplay additions are welcome and streamline the experience, allowing us to invest time where it truly matters, whether exploring or completing the most varied missions. The new story content may be divisive, but for me, it was the perfect conclusion to the game, leaving me intrigued about what to expect for the future of the Xeno series. My only caveat is that our avatar is way too inexpressive, and their presence can be jarring in some story beats. Xenoblade Chronicles X may not be my favorite in the franchise, but it is definitely a must-play for any JRPG fan.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition has delivered the second chance that Monolith Soft’s epic sci-fi RPG deserved to find a wider audience. With its deeply emotional storytelling and world-building, I still see Xenoblade Chronicles 3 as the pinnacle of what the developer has long worked to achieve but this unforgettable space opera is close behind it thanks to its astounding technical execution and thrill-inducing battle systems.

Xenoblade Chronicles X was a very ambitious game that debuted on a practically dying console. But right now you can confidently say that you have found a perfect example of a game ahead of its time. This definitive edition not only shows the strength of the series, but jRPG genre as a whole.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a masterpiece of a remaster: Monolith Soft really cooked with the nice little quality of life and storytelling additions that make the game really shine on Switch despite being 10 years old.

And the thing is that Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition stands out for practically the same reasons as its sister installments: fun gameplay, a good story, charismatic characters (although in this work they are not as much as in other titles in the saga) and, above all, a world that is overwhelming to see and explore due to how vast it is. Huge, yes. And also very dangerous, as I mentioned in the analysis. But it is a joy to get lost and discover scenarios, each one more impressive than the last, with scenarios that are the envy of many current open worlds.

Xenoblade Chronicles X was already a monumental game in the last decade, and yet the guys at Monolith Soft have managed to further elevate its quality. The reworked graphics have given us polygonal models that are finally expressive, harmonious in their movements and embellished with lighting that can bring out the details, while the quick reload and other small adjustments made to the combat system have definitively banished the annoying "spectator effect" that the product had inherited from the first Xenoblade Chronicles, ensuring this time that the user is always involved in the combat phases. Between new secondary missions, three additional playable characters, Skells never seen before and above all a rich portion of extra story, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition represents an unmissable opportunity to return to the planet Mira or at least explore it for the first time.

Enriched with relevant content on Switch, the remaster of Xenoblade Chronicles X respects the direction desired by the series creator since its beginnings. It aims for the point of balance between Japanese and Western role-playing games by offering a dizzying world in its disproportionate excess and gigantism, like a permanent ode to discovery. This exhilarating immensity does much more than serve the game's narrative. It matches the perfect fluidity that connects the action and exploration phases to offer a tailor-made experience enhanced by an epilogue essential if we want to know the end point of the story.

There’s also a lot to be said about how impressive it is to play such a sprawling and complex open-world game on what is essentially a portable device. This feels like the Switch’s swan song as Nintendo prepares to enter their next era. It’s hard to not wish there was just a bit more new content here, but in all fairness the base game is overflowing with things to do. Despite some gripes, Definitive Edition was a great way to play one of my new favorite open world games. I’m excited to dive in to clean my plate of all the remaining side content out there, and even play the multiplayer when it unlocks. There is truly no game like Xenoblade Chronicles X.
  34. 90
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is much more than a port and there’s enough there to justify a re-purchase, even if you’re still one of the ten people still playing it on the Wii U. For those that aren’t existing fans, all you need to know is that this is one of the biggest science fiction epics on the Switch, and while I do prefer the intellectual depth and fantasy trappings of the “proper” trilogy, it’s hard not to be thrilled when exploring your way around this lush, unique vision and world.

If you can get past its tedious organization and swaths of overleveled monsters in your way, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is incredible. This was a game that eluded many fans back in 2015. Now, it has a fresh chance to shine and do so with a new coat of paint and some thoughtful QoL changes. It doesn’t always hit the bullseye, and some 2015 issues went unaddressed. That said, if you let yourself get lost in the wilds of Mira, it’s more than easy to overlook the few things that drag the fun down. Whether you missed Xenoblade Chronicles X the first time or are revisiting Mira, there’s a lot to love and appreciate for fans and newcomers alike.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition brings one of Nintendo’s best open worlds to a new audience with confidence, offering up much-improved UI, smartly-streamlined mechanics, and some intriguing new content. While the game’s presentation could perhaps use a touch more polish, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is an out-of-this-world Switch RPG worth experiencing before Nintendo launches its next hardware.

Xenoblade Chronicles X was already one of the Wii U’s best games, and this Definitive Edition has escaped the destruction of its old home like the White Whale and settled down nicely on Switch. The quality-of-life improvements here are enough to justify another trip to Mira alone for veteran players, and it’s the perfect opportunity for newcomers to explore its beautiful landscapes for themselves. Its combat systems are deep and engaging, and the massive open world never got old to run, jump, or fly across. Its main story may not quite live up to the standards of the series, but a likable cast of characters and plenty of compelling side missions mean Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is still an adventure worth writing back home about.

Xenoblade Chronicles X was the last missing piece to recreate the whole quadrilogy of Xenoblade Games on Nintendo Switch, and this Definitive Edition makes it justice. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a wonder to behold on the Switch. It looks stunning and features fantastic gameplay. The choppy, largely uninteresting story continues to be a significant drawback, and there are still some lingering issues with general repetitiveness and party management minutiae, but it otherwise shines like a Mira sunrise.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is the kind of remaster fans deserve. While Xenoblade Chronicles X has received a minor graphical facelift, at most, in this Definitive Edition, it's the opus as a whole that's to be acclaimed. Whether it's its version from 10 years ago on Wii U or this new entry to finish off the franchise's remasters in style on Nintendo Switch, Xeno Cross has all the makings of a great one and is, for many, the best opus in the saga.It shows just how much Monolith Soft knows when it comes to charming, content-filled open worlds. If you missed out on this JRPG and exploration smash over the last decade, this Definitive Edition is probably the best option.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will make you forget you're playing on a Switch with its breathtaking landscapes. It’s an incredible game that lets you fully immerse yourself in the sense of exploration. While the story left me slightly disappointed, the game never felt boring at any moment. For a game that offers over 100 hours of playtime, this is an outstanding feature. Whether you're a fan of the Xenoblade series or not, if you own a Nintendo Switch, I highly recommend getting lost in the vast world of Mira and finding your way back someday.

Xenoblade Chronicles X has always stood apart from the main trilogy as a markedly different experience, and the Definitive Edition does a fantastic job at bringing it up to par from a gameplay perspective, with the numerous quality-of-life changes addressing some of its more glaring flaws and making it a much more comfortable title to play. Occasional performance dips and obtuse gameplay mechanics notwithstanding, whether you’re as familiar with the streets of New LA as your hometown or this is your first time upon Mira, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is an out of this world experience you won’t want to miss.

I've had a difficult relationship with Xenoblade games in the past. They're enormous, unwieldy beasts that are weighed down with endless mechanical systems and floaty, disconnected combat. Somehow, all of this is applicable to Chronicles X, and I still love it. The combat feels more grounded, the mechanics more approachable, and the plot is more accessible. Plus, the custom outfits. Those really changed the game for me. Also, being able to pilot a team of mechs is a major bonus. Xenoblade games are still not for everyone. This is an imposing, enormous RPG series in every way. But against all odds, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is somehow the one for me.

In 2025, Xenoblade Chronicles X is no longer just another forgotten Wii U RPG: it's a videogame manifesto brought up to date, a singular work that finally finds the setting it deserves on Nintendo Switch. Where so many modern productions rely on cinematic narrative or immediate gratification, Monolith Soft's title dares to offer something else: a truly free open world, non-linear progression, gameplay that demands investment, and above all, a vision. That of an uncompromising RPG.

If you're a fan of big robots, melodrama, and love exploration, Xenoblade Chronicles X should be right up your alley. It's a wonderful time capsule from a console that barely got its due, and a terrific example of how well some of these almost forgotten games have stood the test of time.

A well-crafted and lovingly remastered JRPG originally released in 2015. It emphasizes a vast world and exploration, though this comes at the expense of its story, which takes a backseat. You can easily sink dozens of hours into it, but occasional glimpses of its dated design still surface.

With over 60 hours of gameplay, and much more if you aim to complete every mission and uncover every corner of Mira, there's always something to keep you engaged. Despite its narrative shortcomings, it’s a world that’s easy to lose yourself in—whether it’s your first adventure or a return trip.

The opening of Xenoblade Chronicles X is really something. From the pure horror of watching Earth get wiped out, to the first exploration sequence in the dark and the rain, this game really takes players on a masterful rollercoaster of emotion. The only real knocks against it are the occasional oddly placed music track, and the generally boring city sections, with an additional comment that the systems are often so complicated that they get in the way of fighting and exploring. The story definitely comes in waves, so any player should be more interested in the exploration than purely a narrative experience.

There's no doubt that this fan-favorite game is back in its full glory and better than ever.

This new version of the excellent Xenoblade Chronicles introduces numerous quality of life improvements that genuinely elevate the overall experience. Additionally, the inclusion of a new chapter effectively connects the story to the broader series, filling in some of the narrative gaps from the original game.

Overall, Xenoblade Chronicles X is a massive role-playing game that is more scaled towards the mecha than the on-foot component. The initial on-foot sections take a while, but once you get your Doll license, the world of Mira literally opens up. So stick with this one; it’s a long road but still one worth the effort of traveling.

Although it’s not the strongest entry in the series narratively, Xenoblade Chronicles X delivers a fantastic sense of exploration and a truly original mecha dimension to this unique single-player MMO-like JRPG world. The remaster doesn’t change much, but it ensures that the game finally gets the attention it deserves.

Within the splendid Xenoblade series, Chronicles X is still its own title, whose science fiction setting allows for concepts such as Skells that make the whole experience even more distinctive. It's one of the great JRPGs of the last decade, in its definitive version.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition has made a splash among the must-have games on the Nintendo Switch, bringing back a sleeping giant from the Wii U era with various technical and gameplay improvements. It's the ideal RPG for lovers of good micromanagement, it really encourages exploration of a gigantic open world and it knows how to guide the moments of reward with real amazement, either through the dramatic development of the narrative, with surprise attacks and unexpected heroic acts, or through the spectacular combat and the gigantic Skells.

The original game was an epic adventure that, although it had its ups and downs, managed to position itself as a great JRPG. Now, this Definitive Edition comes to offer the best version of Xenoblade Chronicles X, with additions and improvements that suit it very well and strengthen its greatness.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a middle ground between a remaster and a remake; the game is not overly aged and benefits from the many improvements resulting so and accessible. This does not mean that it is easier: the level of challenge is the same as in the classic version, and in general this re-release, appreciable by both fans of the saga and newcomers, offers a deep and exciting story.

A fantastic open world role-player, with a mountain of content and interesting diversions – although the unengaging storytelling remains its main weakness.

Not all its additions are for the better, but this excavation of Monolith Soft's alien opus remains as fascinating and enthralling as it was a decade ago.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a worthwhile upgrade to the base game, bringing with it things that fans have wanted for a very long time — but it also leaves some of the game’s more frustrating quirks intact, in a way that feels a little bit like a missed opportunity. It’s still a fantastic game, but it’s hard not to feel like too much was left on the table when addressing the game’s flaws.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a welcome return to one of the most ambitious JRPGs of its time, refined with visual upgrades, quality-of-life improvements, and new story content. While the core gameplay remains as deep and rewarding as ever, some of its rougher edges, like clunky menus, a steep learning curve, and persistent pop-in, keep it from feeling as polished as Monolith Soft’s later work. Newcomers will find a daunting but fascinating journey, whereas returning fans can enjoy the extra content without reinventing the experience. It might not be the series' classic, but if you can embrace its complexity and occasional frustrations, Mira is still an open-world marvel.

While its plot and performances sometimes had our eyes glazing over, there's still no doubt that Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is an impressively vast adventure which has clearly been designed with the player's comfort in mind. With swift exploration, an engaging combat system and a wealth of side quests, things are already compelling from early on, and that's even before the mechs turn up and kick things up another level.

After so many hours playing, I still haven’t seen or experienced everything here. This was a special game back on the WiiU, and while that feeling is still here, so are some of the frustrations. It’s going to be an overwhelming experience for some, and others will see such an expansive game as too much of a time sink. However, millions of others are going to embark on a journey of exploration filled with amazing moments, superb characters, and tremendous fights, all packaged in a new, shiny wrapping, worth the wait.

It’s a delightful adventure, dripping in imagination. It’s a saturated mess, prone to tedium. It has a knack for redefining itself in truly engrossing ways. It has a mean spirit that facilitates truly vulgar environmental design. Its world is breathtaking and vast. Its world is hateful and myopic. It sounds incredible. It sounds unbearable. It’s intensely absorbing. It’s offputtingly self-indulgent.

While Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is not a perfect remaster by any means. It has several notable and avoidable flaws. However, it is still one of the best remasters in modern years and the new content makes it an incredibly attractive remaster for fans.

Xenoblade Chronicles X remains stuck in the game design of 10 years ago, padded with hackneyed dialogue, pinballing the player from silly quest to tired kill quotients. Sure, it occasionally surprises you with a stunning panorama or confronts you with a colossal enemy. Even then, though, it’s not long before you’re engaged in a repetitive combat loop where your attacks trigger automatically and your optimum strategy relies on approaching enemies from the rear.

And yet, despite my complaints, what I’ve ultimately come away with from this interplanetary stroll down memory lane is this: Ambition is that element of game design that is the hardest to copy, and the easiest to invite forgiveness. Ten years after its release, there’ve been games that have replicated the genuinely coolest things about Xenoblade Chronicles X. (If you told me that no one who worked on the world design of The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild had ever spent time with these vast vistas of “How the hell do I get over there?” I’d be genuinely shocked.) But very few games have ever tried to work at this level of both detail and scale. Mira remains unmatched as a space to explore, a world that feels breathtakingly alive and hostile and glorious; a planet where cresting a hill to see the next view spread out before you remains its own shining reward. Xenoblade Chronicles X wasn’t a perfect game before, and a decade of time hasn’t magically made a perfect game of it since. But it is singular, and singular has only gotten more precious to me as the years have gone by.

For a certain kind of player, it’s worth pushing through the game’s fussiness. Because even now, 10 years after it debuted, there’s still nothing quite like the sense of stunning sci-fi exploration that Xenoblade Chronicles X offers. You even get a mech suit eventually. The Switch version doesn’t change much, but it does make that incredible world portable, which is more than enough reason to jump in — either again or for the first time.
