The third game in one of my favourite games definitely doesn't disappoint in its world, premise, combat, exploration and some of the heavy story moments. The world is very detained and vast and the side quests that fill it are very fun now compared to some of the other games. The story is very good with both the ending of chapter 5 and the ending of the game hit very hard with a really good romance built between the 2 main characters. However, it left some considerable holes which I would have liked to see get an explanation. Overall I would say I still enjoy the satisfaction of learning about XC2's lore more but every other element is better in XC3 making this game a solid 9.5/10 for me. (edit im now raising it up to a 10 because future redeemed gave me basically all i wanted to tie up the loose ends of this game, definitely a must play) Expand

+Characters don't feel one-dimensional and there's lots of focus on the group and their personal struggles, wich is something that the previous games also had but not to the same extend and I'm glad to see more of it here.

+Combat is advanced and complex and gives you seemingly infinite options to set-up your party. It's fun but din't go in this game thinking it's a full on action-JRPG

+Combat is advanced and complex and gives you seemingly infinite options to set-up your party. It's fun but din't go in this game thinking it's a full on action-JRPG cuz it's not. It's more of a tactical/strategy JRPG except it's not turned based.

    +Music is peak as usual.

+The areas look dope and are fun to explore, tho don't go in this game thinking it's an open-world game like BOTW, cuz it's simply not that and not trying to be that.

+The graphics are better than ever. Great artstyle with great graphics (For the Switch, at least)

-The areas are very large (especially in the later chapters) but unlike in Xenoblade X, there's no sprint button wich this game could use for sure.

-When you're fighting in a small area with lots of enemies at once the game becomes hard to follow visually. Now yes, there is an indicator showing your position relative to the enemy you're targeting but it's still a mess sometimes. I feel like they should give us the option to disable damage and healing numbers since, when you think about it, you don't really need them. Sure it's good to compare the damage output of your party members n' stuff but you can already see all the stats in the character menu so just give us the option to turn of all these damage/healing numbers so that my screen doesn't look so bloated in crowded fights.

-The dialoge isn't bad but sometimes it feels like the characters point out pretty obvious things. Mainly early game.

-This is not the dev's fault but sometimes I had frame rate drops in ceetain areas. This is just a Switch issue, not a Xenoblade issue.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Tetsuya Takahashi is a GENIUS. 3 Xenoblade games back to back that are *near* masterpieces?! Monolith Soft is one of the best companies around period (and yes this game has a 9 while the other 2 games have an 8 from me, but I still consider them all on equally amazing footing). This was easily my most anticipated game of 2022 alongside Horizon II and while Xenoblade 3 isn’t perfect, it’s so damn close I can’t help smiling whenever I think about it, unable to put it down for WEEKS.
My LONG list of positives, music is incredible as always. Is that even a question? I have to listen to it in full still but The Weight of Life, Moebius battle themes and A Step Away, truly some of the BEST songs ever in any video game. The graphics are surprisingly beautiful as well, it pushes the weak Switch to its breaking point (resulting in a few hard crashes for me), but it looks genuinely amazing, I took DOZENS of screenshots every hour. The fused environments had me geeking out the whole time too. The combat is FANTASTIC. I had so much fun even in the most basic of battles. The class system is genuinely addictive & I loved to switch up my strategies every few hours (but after a certain later point I stopped because I found classes for everyone I loved to use), and chain attacks are finally fun to use! It took a little getting used to, but very soon I was doing MILLIONS of damage and basically shredded every boss after that point. Anything would be WAY better than the god awful chain system in Xeno 1. It’s been a long time since I had so much addictive fun with a game, especially such a MASSIVE experience like Xenoblade 3. The cutscene direction & choreography are in a master class of their own. Everything in this game is designed to make you FEEL & I love some severe emotional damage in my games! I cried multiple times throughout almost every chapter, while jumping out of my seat with pure concentrated HYPE during other moments. For the record it’s physically very hard for me to cry, so THAT is an achievement! If you think that’s emotionally damaging, the ending had me in absolute SHAMBLES. I sobbed my eyes out for over an hour, until my eyes burned & my shirt was soaked. Happy & sad tears btw! One of the best ending setpieces in video game history!!!
Negatives are few & far between. Minor stuff like some of the chapter lengths were a bit much, there’s only 7 but I think some of them could’ve been broken up into separate chapters like in previous games. Like I mentioned, the game did stutter a little then crash after from time to time. I saved a lot, but once I lost 30 minutes of decent progress which was annoying. Also in one of the later chapters, you’re stuck at a location for an extended period of time doing boring tasks for an hour before being able to leave, right in the middle of the typical ramping up of the Xenoblade story which kinda stomped on the excellent pacing up until that point. It picked right back up after like none of the fetch quest crap didn’t just happen thankfully, but I was audibly groaning after a certain point of that quest, a dirty smudge on an otherwise heart wrenching & gripping chapter. SPOILERS! What I wanna dive into last is the story itself, what I was easily the most excited for.. I really love it trust me, but I think I had set my expectations WAY too high which is on me obviously. The story has some goddamn heartwarming, heartbreaking & awe inspiring moments, but a lot of them can be spaced far apart due to the chapter design. The main villains are also kind of.. ok? Compared to Egil & Zanza, Malos, Jin & Amalthus, the majority of them pale in comparison to those iconic characters. Moebius are all intriguing to watch, but I can’t help but scratch my head a little at some of the twists and turns surrounding them, especially at those 2 FAMILIAR Moebius, if ykyk. They just kinda fell flat for me. I understand everything about them now, but the way it was presented in the story came across as convoluted at times, at least to me. I really wish there were more connections to previous games as well. What we did get was AMAZING I was just wishing there to be a lot more, although my Xeno 2 story expectations helped to prepare me for this game tbh, Xenoblade games are their OWN stories with references to previous games. Considering this was a culmination of the series & was advertised as such, I was just craving more. Still LOVED the story, but out of the 3 Chronicles games, I still prefer the 1st & 2nd’s stories. Might be a controversial take, but all of these games are so carefully & lovingly crafted, it’s truly become one of my Top 5 Favorite Franchies, and one of the best trilogies I’ve ever played right up there with Mass Effect. Thank you Takahashi & Monolith Soft.. One more thing.. REST IN PISS FIELD SKILLS!!

But fortunately when I switched difficulty lvl to easy battles were lot faster and I really recommend easy from the start if you don't want to waste a lot of hours looking on the same combat system over and over again. I've tried previous xenoblade games but they never really convinced me to give them a chance for more then couple more hours. But this game is really special. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is an excellent JRPG that is sure to please fans of the genre and newcomers alike. The game has an epic story, a beautiful world, engaging combat, and plenty of content to keep players engaged. If you are looking for a new JRPG to play, then Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a great choice.

I've been playing video games since the days of Final Fantasy 1, and I've seen a lot of them come and go. But Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is one of the best I've ever played. The story is gripping, the characters are memorable, and the world is absolutely stunning. I could spend hours just exploring the different areas and taking in the sights.

It has an open world that feels copy and pasted repeatedly, and largely empty. All exploration gets you is hundreds of different items that are so numerous and so frequent none of it feels interesting or special. They seemed to have taken some bits from MMO style gameplay, but only the most boring bits. A story that can't seem to decide on it's pacing, with many of the characters being very bland stereotypes. You have so many cutscenes that they become a boring slog to even put up with and you groan every time you have to sit through one, or just start skipping them completely. The boss enemies are just terrible attempts at I think being funny mustache twisting evil and instead are just cringy and comical in a very bad way. Hours and hours of voice acting, yet in combat and overworld you'll hear the same half a dozen lines repeated over, and over, and over.

Save yourself the time and money and play almost any other game in the series instead, or really any other JRPG instead.

Xenoblade 2 was alright, but not nearly as bad as this game. At the time of release, I was not a legal adult, and had no source of reliable income, I saved for months to buy this game on release day with the dlc. You could only imagine my disappointment. Let's start on the story. I love the story. But actually playing through it, sucked. It was really hard to follow for some reason, and I found myself googling about the part that I was at. Now let’s begin on the gameplay. All the past battle mechanics we know and love are still here. However, the auto attacks were my biggest problem in this game and xenoblade 2. If auto attacking builds your team gauge, then why is it required for me to stand stationary when positioning is so crucial in xenoblade games? This was not a problem in xenoblade definitive edition, as you were able to auto attack while moving to position yourself better, which, as previously stated, is a crucial part of battle in these games. This auto attacking problem is auto attacking this game’s rating (Mediocre attempt at humor). Other than auto attacking, there were a few gameplay mechanics that are new, but poorly designed. One of which being the weapon class system. Every character in this game has a unique weapon that they use. While that is all well and good, you can also SWITCH any character’s weapon class to the weapon of another character. That makes any strategy of who to play, completely irrelevant since you can use any weapon as any character. It also has a level system for ALL the characters and for ALL the weapons. That adds more playtime to the game that just is not fun. This mechanic also makes the characters less diversified, as the weapon you see them use in the cutscenes has no meaning to the character anymore. Which perfectly segways this review into the characters. They are really not that bad, but the character designs are amazing, but way too detailed for the switch to handle, along with the environment. It feels as if this is meant to be played on a PS5. It runs horribly. Even the menu lags due to too much detail. Now we can talk about the dlc. The hype train for the dlc fell off because of how long the waves are taking to come out. I sadly can not recommend this game to xenoblade newcomers, or anyone for that matter. Just go buy Xenoblade definitive edition. Expand

Xenoblade 3 also has a much darker tone and story than either of its predecessors, though it never gets too dour or full of itself *cough*Final Fantasy XVI*cough* -- as heavy as it can be at times, Xenoblade 3 always keeps its sense of fun.

It is also by far the biggest and longest Xeno game, featuring a beautiful and fully realized world to explore, and countless side quests and side content to take part in. The game is so jam packed with content that you can easily hit triple-digit hours of play; though -- as one can imagine -- with so much content, not all of it is equally as compelling. Some side quests are very well developed and meaningful, while others feel more like useless filler.

As for the rest of the game, it serves as the true culmination of the Xenoblade trilogy by combining the best elements of both. The combat is so fun, with great variety thanks to the class-switching system, and the open world is as always stunning and satisfying to explore. The characters are among the series's best as well, with all six protagonists becoming well developed by the end. My favorite was Taion, but even the stoic Noah becomes a fascinating, three-dimensional character.

The main criticism I would give is that the game has a bit too many mechanics, and it became tedious to juggle classes, arts, gems, and Ouroboros upgrades. Additionally, while I think the ending was a good conclusion to the specific story of Xenoblade 3, it doesn't really serve as an ending to the Xenoblade trilogy that we were promised, and a few elements are left frustratingly unexplained (still have no idea WTF is up with Noah's sword). This last point doesn't bother me too much since I assume the Future Redeemed DLC will serve as a suitable ending, but just something to keep in mind! Overall, this is a definite recommend to any Xenoblade fan or RPG fan in general, and one of the Switch's best games.

Then Fire Emblem, a masterpiece right through to 3 Houses, which really brought it to the future, had these great story path choices, beautiful design, adding stunning music. Then Engage happened and ruined it all. I don't care how good the chess bit is when everything else was ruined. Nasty ear piercing, boring anime characters that I wanted to kill, not save and in a fooking illuminous game world.

Then Xenoblade, guess what? Yes ruined. The 3rd of Nintendo's best franchises given the **** treatment on the latest gen.

How did they manage to downgrade everything from the Wii and WiiU? All they had to do was combine the two and ditch Nopons. The gameworld, graphics, speed and fun of XC X on WiiU mixed with the Story and music of XC1 on Wii. Instead they literally destroyed everything. I am really at a point now where I don't believe the hardware of Switch is as good as WiiU. I don't think the Switch is capable of the WiiU game world in Xenoblade Chronicles X. On paper Switch maybe better but in the real world, I haven't seen the Switch come close to XC X on WiiU.

I am also starting to believe that people are paid to add reviews. Some of the reviews are outright lies.

    Great characters. If you're 6 y/o possibly.
Great story. Yeah, I'm just 30 hours in and the story has done practically nothing and the cuts enes are boring as it gets.

Edit: Got to 40 hours and it was still bad and got hit with loads of filler just as the story was about to move. Went to CEX and traded this junk. Good riddance.

I can't even be bothered listing every part of the game. It is bad in every way. Go play XCDE and XC X and comeback and tell me this isn't a downgrade in every possible way.

It's childish with characters and dialogue. With the removal of the old combat bar (I know they did this in 2 but I haven't played it) combat can feel like a lot of waiting around. Characters constantly glitching out and humping scenery. High quality but very forgettable music. I've never spent so long on such a terrible game. Absolute waste of my life.

I'm not sure how so many people can criticise SAO games and then praise this because the poor dialogue is very reminiscent of SAO. Hollow Realisation is actually a better game than this though.

Avoid this crap. Reviews are clearly from primary schoolers. There is nothing for teenagers, or adults here.

Unfortunately, the game actively punishes you for preparing for tough fights by locking experience to classes when you are over 5 levels than the enemy you're fight. This means the game is also punishing you for doing quests, since doing all the quests as they come up makes you roughly 10 levels over the monsters you face while doing said quests.

The story is mid at best and insulting at worst. It feels like it was written by three very distinct individuals. The first is an industry veteran who knows what they're doing. When they're writing, the story well written, concise, and you can really understand who each characters is.
The second writer is a college grad who hasn't quite kicked the habit they teach you in school to write a 5 page essay where 4 paragraphs is more than enough. This writer breaks the show don't tell rule in the most infuriating way. They will show you, tell you, then make the characters have a conversation going in depth on what they just experience or learned and then have the characters act like this is all new information when it comes up again. Never before has my controller fallen asleep because a cutscene was going on too long. Never before have I skipped cutscenes on the first viewing because i already know everything that happens in the cutscene from the first 5 second while they insist it needs 30 more minutes of cutscene to really drive the point home.
The Third Writer is a twitter blogger. They care more for creating artificial drama than keeping character consistency. Characters will spontaneously break character, act stupid, or act stubborn for the sake of adding extra drama or conflict when the story already has plenty of both to work off of.
The discrepancy between these three writing styles is such a glaring issue to the point that im almost convinced the first writer had made the prefect story for this but it wasn't long enough for investors so they hired writers two and three to stretch the play time and consequently ruin the story. The game tries to mix the themes of the first two games to great effect until the second writer beats the point to death and the third writer retcons it at the last second.

In conclusion, if you want to play it for the gameplay, go ahead and just try not to over-level. if you you want a compelling well written story, just play the last two because you're not going to find that with this one.

I don’t think I would have enjoyed the game so thoroughly if I hadn’t played xenoblade 1 and 2 before hand but it can still be enjoyed without playing them. Almost forgot to mention the music. That was honestly (as usual with xenoblade) one of the best parts. I also absolutely loved the ending. People who didn’t like it because it “goes against the message” or because it “didn’t make sense” I’m fairly certain were not paying attention when playing the game. It was a perfect end which was shown to be the characters aims from the start of the game. Overall this is my opinion that this is a great game, I didn’t get bored once even in the sections where there wasn’t any action. Truely a masterpiece. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played and finished both XB1 and XB2 and really enjoyed both. So I thought there was no way XB3 could fail. Unfortunately XB3 made several design and story decisions that did not captivate me.

First was the military theme, just didn't enjoy that aspect of it. XB games are more fun and interesting when they have a more homey or medieval theme. Could just be me that feels that way, I don't know.

I also didn't like the whiny lead character Noah. So weak. I mean I didn't like Rex that much either at first but at least he was tenacious so I had to give him respect for that - and eventually Rex won me over. Noah just wants to talk about emotions the whole time and I want to roll my eyes.

Also the UI felt like a step backwards, the combat also wasn't better than XB2, the villains were stupid, and the environments seemed dark and ugly. Not an enjoyable universe to be in at all. Somehow they did the impossible and released a terrible XB game.

The characters were some of the best I've seen from the series only being topped by some in 2. The final boss is literally just the same guy from Persona 5.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a game that has many good ideas but the execution of it is rather sloppy. First off, it's really cool that you get up to 7 characters on screen at once all participating in battle. However, the story wants to be a super complex story but has many plot holes and contrivances. For instance, the game basically says someone has 3 months to live, yet the party is okay meandering around doing things that aren't their main objective despite their time constraints. There's a moment where the main character summons a sword from his chest; yet never explained why this happens. Sometimes, the plot only moves forward because the writers force characters to make absolutely asinine decisions. For example, the party finds themselves in the heart of enemy territory and all agree that they have to get away as soon as possible. But no, the protagonist walks more into the territory rather than running; he does this for no reason and it's never explained. The game features completely one dimensional and overdramatic villains. It's a darn shame that the counsel of villains all have extremely similar personalities. There's even a scene where one of the characters tells the villain that they would join their side cuz of "friendship" even though the villain murdered all the character's friends. Let me tell you, if one of my friends murdered my other friends, I'd be pretty pissed about that. There's a part where one character switches bodies with another character. It's never explained why this can occur and how this is possible. It just happens because the writers needed a way to progress the plot and couldn't think of a logical way to do it somehow.

The gameplay itself is really fun. If you love tab targeting MMO's, you'll like the gameplay of this game. Exploration feels smooth, but some of the maps have issues telling the players which items are on which floor. One of the biggest foibles of this class based game is that when a new class is unlocked, it's not unlocked for every character. This is huge oversight because other games in this genre will allow all characters to use a class once it's unlocked. Why this game went against that good game design is beyond me. Also, the game fails to explain that you can't unlock classes if you're fighting mobs that are 5+ levels lower than you. This is awful design to an otherwise well designed class system.

Overall, there's nothing wrong with a straightforward story. If the writers wanted to make a complex story, they can do so without having so many plot contrivances and plot holes.

The music in combat is repetitive and stressful, however the music when you travel the world is beautiful.

+ DLC Wave 4 looks incredible (though it is not out yet)
+ Music is excellent, very impactful in cut scenes
+ Story up until about halfway through Chapter 6 is INCREDIBLE
+ Never had performance problems in over 100 hours of gameplay.
    Cons:
    - You never hear the night themes of 90% of the areas because when you skip travel the game auto sets the time to 8 AM, unless you hit extra buttons. Didn't hear half of the soundtrack until post-game.
    - The tutorials are suuuuuuper handhold-y. This isn't bad necessarily, it just bugged me as a person who had already played XC1 and XC2 and knew what I was doing. Understandable why they did it though, XC2's terrible tutorials ruined plenty of people's experiences with the game and they took that feedback slightly too hard. Wish there was a tutorial toggle for 2nd play-through.
    - Sometimes lighting on characters faces seems very harsh(?)
    - The last chapter or so of story was disappointing. The big bad at the end doesn't feel interesting or relatable in comparison to earlier antagonists.

    Overall still a 10/10
Though there are a few things that aren't perfect about the game, they are minor. I'd recommend XC3 to anyone who enjoys complex characters, intricate combat, or a past with JRPGs.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My original rating for this game was 6/10, after 110 hours and the ending it is now 4.5/10. This game was made for teen to young adult audiences who don’t mind anime-esque tropes and clichés and to introduce philosophies to them. I am not that target audience and feel those that are deserve better than this.

This game suffers a bar so low that it acts as an excuse as to why it’s not better than it should be. It walks on the corpses of the previous games, and by the end tramples on them. If you’re looking to play XenoC 3, welcome to the Endless Now.

    Gameplay 3/5

TL;DR: The gameplay is held up by conveniences invented and improved in the last 3 XenoC games, but is spoiled by its thoughtless combat and a lack of interesting mechanics on the enemy’s side.

-The good stuff from the previous Xenos are still here.
-The Gem mechanic has been simplified since XenoC: 1 into tactical stat buffs. No more fumbling around menus, throwing out useless ones or fusing them then slotting them.
-This game has an insane amount of tutorials for half the game.
-I like the new colony mechanics. Raising ranks to get better shop items, and building (pointless) relationships is nice.
-Traversal takes too long. This game could use XenoC X’s vehicles.
-The discussion mechanic bogs down time with extra steps to do basic quests.
-The bonus EXP is basically just “Get more EXP from the EXP you already get”.
-The Interlinks are cool looking, but slow combat with long animations. They’re like summons in FF10 and 12, meat shields used to keep the party alive.
-Chain Attacks are horrendously long. The animations are not fluid, they take forever, with latency between selection and animations.

~THE COMBAT of XenoC 3 is the worst part of gameplay. It comes down to basic level related questions.
”Are you 5 levels below a normal enemy?” You win.
”Are you the same level as this elite enemy?” You win.
“Are you 5 levels above the boss?” You win.
People make bosses with weird and interesting mechanics to breakup the above formula. The only two interesting boss fights in the game are against M (whose not that interesting, just watch your targeting) and the Final Boss.

The problem with the combat is that it’s flashy, slow and superfluous. Interlinks and Chain Attacks bloat the time. All the subclasses are pointless because you’ll never need the admittedly great and varied ideas they had for the subclasses because no enemy is special enough to need different strategies. On top of that it incentivizes you to just drop the controller because of Auto-combat. “Above the level requirement? Good, turn on auto-combat, it’ll be over soon. Unless you want it over even slower, but guaranteed, with the overly long Chain Attacks.”

    Story 1.5/5

TL;DR: The premise is simple, but interesting and starts well. Later the themes are found to be only skin deep and the characters and villains are shallow. The setting is glazed over and no one goes through character growth. The midsection is bloated.

-Plot. Easily guessable, but fine…till the end.
-Setting. Unutilized. The world is made of the titans of the first two games, who don’t come up as a plotpoint. The focus is on the “10 years to die” aspect and Moebius's immortality.
-Themes. They’re brought up only on a surface level with one exception. The main themes: Reincarnation, living a short life to the fullest , living for the possibilities of the future rather than the Now, people live on in others who knew and cherished them.
-Characters. The main characters are bland, save Eunie. The worst parts about them is they're innofensive and have no hobbies or dreams besides their goals. Earlier I mentioned this game has a safety net; that’s their 10 Year Lifespan. Because they can only live for 10 years they lack personhood/occupations. The narrative uses this as an answer to the character’s lacking elements. Yet they stretch subjects of convos impossibly long.
-Character Growth. There is none. The main reason being that because the colony’s side stories are optional. If any character development happened at a colony that was too significant, they’d have to change too much later to compensate.

The best characters are mainly the colony leaders: Ethel, Cammuravi, Monica, Asherah, and Triton. The rest are bland to bad (Ghondor). Only fleshed out villains are J and M

~THE ENDING. The End was so insultingly bad I thought it was a bad ending that I could earn a good version of. I could go on for hours, but in short it subverts its own message of giving people more choices. They rob each other of choice, denying the wish of people that want to be together, in hopes of finding a way to get back to each other. Also, when did Origin, a machine designed to hold people’s souls through an apocalypse (and somewhat manipulate ether) gain the power to force two universes apart?

Developed by Monolith Soft and published by Nintendo for the Switch, it features an original story that is both captivating and surprising, with nods to other media, including Star Wars and anime such as Attack on Titan and Berserk.

One of the standout features of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the quality of life improvements. The intuitive waypoint system allows players to navigate the expansive game world with ease, while the ability to change classes and adopt new fighting styles adds depth to the combat system. The core crystal system has also been reimagined, with optional characters now being enlisted through fully-voiced Hero Quests, adding an extra layer of storytelling to the game.

The layered combat system in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is also a highlight, with players able to combo, stagger, transform, and perform linked-special moves to tackle encounters in various ways. With 19 fully fleshed-out party members, the game offers plenty of options for players to customize their party and find their preferred playstyle.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is an essential JRPG for fans of the genre and newcomers alike. It builds upon the already solid foundation of the Xenoblade franchise, with slight quality-of-life improvements and a captivating narrative that will keep players engaged from beginning to end. With its expansive game world, layered combat system, and fully voiced Hero Quests, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a game that should not be missed.

    - The story is not as good as Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2 personally (as a JRPG, the outline is fine, but the storytelling is terrible, especially too much content is included in the side stories and the pace is not well-balanced. i.e. slow at the beginning, fast at the end)
    - Many meaningless conversations and some characters are not well built
    - Music is ok, but most are forgettable

The game has this feature of saving time by wasting your time. Chain attack animation is unskippable, so you have to waste your time watching the same thing over and over again. The game also has this thing called fabricator, by producing items that you can collect inside the game in large quantities, but not big enough. It can only run it once at a time, so you have to run it dozens of times so you can get enough amount, wasting your time because the animation is also unskippable, great.

Combat feels meaningless because nothing has any impact besides combos that just make your enemy stop attacking for a while. Exploring is pointless because nothing you pick up is unique and the environments contain no significance. Class system is a waste of time and you'll probably just have to play a healer anyway to make sure the AI doesn't just kill itself. Equipment customization is pointless because there's basically no real customization.

Basically just a surface level RPG with way too much filler. I thought it'd be a nice long game but instead it's just a long, boring tutorial. The long cutscenes at the beginning made sense because it was establishing the story and characters, and for a while was interesting. Now it's just "oh boy another cutscene", and put the controller down for a while. That's not a game. I got this because I saw how highly rated it was, and now I find myself doubting people's opinions, severely.

The OST is so good that I would place it up near other soundtracks, such as the Persona games. The gameplay is so fun and there are so many places to discover in this large and expansive world. The many side quests really make the game so much more immersive and show the player all of the struggles faced by the different sides in the epic war that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is showcasing. The heroes seen throughout the game are all so well fleshed out and add so much variety to the strategy in battle. The only thing I would say that really lacks in this game is a villain. Trying not to get into spoilers, while most characters and even locations have immense amounts of lore and building up to help the world-building of the game and to help continue to immerse the player in the game, the main villain is not exactly fleshed out, and displays no clear motive that is presented in the game. While this did not subtract from my experience of the game, it was still something I noted when doing my playthrough of the game. A final note I would like to make is that the character designs are absolutely superior and that this game presents a perfect end to the Xenoblade series. Absolute perfection. Expand

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the most polished the series has been, but unfortunately did not live up to its ambitions and may even do "dirty" its previous numbered titles by mischaracterizing beloved characters at times with underdeveloped plot elements. It leaves far too many plot elements unanswered and feels undercooked in its execution toward the end unfortunately.
-The world itself leaves much to be desired from a gameplay standpoint compared to its predecessors. It has an ambitious combat system that drags players back to the more simple gameplay of Xenoblade 1 and mixes it with some elements of 2 in ways that make battles drag out longer than they probably should.
-The gameplay gets too repetitive compared to much superior combat system of 2 (or Torna).
-I think the developers really went out of there way to present well animated cutscenes that are the best in the series in terms of production, but sometimes it is a bit too much and re-treads too much on the previous games in ways that are not productive at all for advancing the story. I don't need 3 cutscenes when I'm running down a hill that takes three times as long as they need to, just present one cutscene that does it all then take me back to the gameplay.
-I think in terms of feedback, they over-corrected on potential flaws of previous games. The tutorials are way too long and drawn out for repeat plays. On the other hand, it is easily the most accessible the series has been since 1.
-It never resolves plot threads that it should be considering, and leaves much to be desired for what it is trying to execute. Don't bring previous games into your game if you don't make it worth it. As a huge fan of the 2nd game that loved it to bits, to leave many core elements unsettled was strange.
-The game could have existed without needing to bring 1 & 2's universes into this game, it felt totally not merited. The actual story it was trying to tell got dragged down as a result.
-The event system for quests are a bit confusing at times. You try to find out how to activate an ascension quest sometimes, and it depends on a quest, but the game doesn't inform you of which quest you're on. This happened at least 3 times on my playthrough and left much frustration on where/what I was to do next.
-The hero system, which is this game's "equivalent" to the blade system of 2, can lead players to become over-levelled for many parts of the game, making the gameplay far too stale too quickly. This is because unlike the blade system, the hero quests provide a ton of EXP up front through required quests you can at many times do at any time, rather than earning it. You can essentially just do side-questing with hero quests, and be way too overlevelled for the main story that you are walking through main quests not fighting any regular enemies. It breaks the immersion of the game considerably. Also the hero system, unlike the blade system, does not encourage replays in NG+.
-At this time, there's little reason to do a NG+.

The game, while a step forward in production, was definitely a step backwards in storytelling and gameplay from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which is arguably a better game overall. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a very ambitious title, and I respect the developers for their attempt, but they need to remember to focus on making the plot stronger and not re-use previous games in the way they did, it could have been much better. Without spoiling anything, the entire plot of this game could be rewritten out of existence if the previous games ended in a better way (that this game confirms didn't happen, unfortunately).

Hooks you right from the get go with it's premise, instantly introducing lots of mysteries and mysterious characters, and they really fleshed out all the main characters personalities, and the dynamic they have with each other is so good it's unbelievable how they did it. Yes, I am amazed at such creativity, the quality of life is unimaginable, this very much of a game (yes, despite being more than game, it is still a game) has characters that feel as life-full as any one of us, characters that actually pass their feelings to the player, a story that although it is so much fantastical, it still feels relatable, "betrayal, misery, captivity, an endless cycle of suffering and despair, but there is also hope" the game is screaming this sentence in every part and every corner of it's story, music, voice acting, and world design, you will laugh, get excited, feel joyful, and also shed tears through it.

the presentation in this game is untopable, but the gameplay is also surprisingle very good, it is not the peak of JRPGs but it has so much systems and doors to keep you hooked in for more than 100 hours, implying strategy in every step of the game, whether you're playing the game on medium or hard difficulty, you will still feel a challenge, not in proceeding through the story (which also has it's own unique challenges), but in creating different approaches to compat and different types of enemies, aside fr0m compat the world design is very beautiful and expanded, it's full of things to do and side quests which actually feels relevant and rewarding, and the reason for that is the improvements done to "fetch quests", cheer up mates.. there is no more fetch quests, the quest system has also been improved, with quests being sorted into 3 different categories, side quests which are initiated through exploring the world, hero quests which are fully voice acted - character specific quests; these are really fun to complete since 95% of the characters in this game are amazing, and the remaining 5% is likeable enough. the last category is the story quests, full of cutscenes and interactions between the main characters, every single character gets an equal ammount of screen time, with some chapters being dedicated to one or two at a time, every small detail is delicate and perfect, there is really no complains about the story quests for me, although i think it's perfect, some people might hate the cutscenes for being a bit too long..

my overall review of the game is 10/10, a true masterpiece that hooked me for 150 hours, i enjoyed every single bit of it, i would recommend this game to anyone familiar with JRPGs

The main problem that this game has is that all the characters feel exactly the same with the games class changing system. The problem is only made worse by the fact that seven party members are on the field at the exact same time. It ends up feeling like you as the player have no control over the outcome of the battle. Teammates in my experience did not use combos, didn’t really know when to use their support abilities or heals, they never entered a buff circle without me guiding them toward it. The combat is just incredibly clunky and felt like it was on autopilot most of the time which again was not a problem in any of the previous xenoblade games. The gimmick of this game, the interlink ability was also not interesting either especially compared to the gimmicks of the previous games (skells, blades) it functionally just gave you an additionally 6 arts you could spam repeatedly until the time limit ran out, again this is way less interesting than the overdrive mechanic in XBX which let you extend your time in the skell if you were clever about the arts you used. Chain attack was also not great in comparison to the chain attacks from XB1 and XB2, they massively interrupt the flow of combat and basically boil down to using the guy with the highest number over and over until you get the same big damage cutscene at the end which is unskippable and takes about 40 seconds.

Inventory and skill management are a complete hassle in this game. You constantly pick up random crap off the ground and your constantly unlocking new skills and classes and interlink points and every time you swap a class you have to go through their stat screen and change every little thing if you want to be meticulous and not use auto equip.

The point I’m trying to get at with this game is that it feels like player agency has been massively stripped from this game and the interesting gameplay decisions you could make in the previous games is now gone in order to massively streamline the experience. Unfortunately this has made the overall experience of the game feel very mediocre and uninspiring.

The other aspects of the game have taken a step back as well, exploration is not interesting, the music has a few good songs but overall is mediocre. The story takes a while to pick up and when it does it’s enjoyable unfortunately I find it difficult to get invested in a games story if I do not enjoy the gameplay.

I tried to like this game because I like the other games in this series a lot but unfortunately it has too many issues to ignore.

Best in the Xenoblade series and the best JRPG of the last 5 years, at least. This game is a Obra Magna, a masterpiece, an incredible experience in the techical aspects and in the creative ones. Mature narrative that offers much more than the average anime/JRPG. The character design and story is top level. Combat mechanichs are polished, offering you the best from Xeno1 and 2. I cannot think of a single room for improvement for this game. Clearly it should have won the GOTY. Expand

Amazing graphics, gameplay, story and music. I love the characters. The world is just so beautifly done. Absolute best game of this year. Other developers should learn from this game with impact.

This game takes everything great about this franchise and some how dials it up even further. The story is super epic, the characters are amazing, and the side quests are easily the best of the series. The voice acting is super well done and so is the writing. I never though any game would top XC1 for me, but this game is incredible. The game also starts at a really fast pace so it grabs you quickly, but then never lets up. The environments and monsters look great too. This is an absolute must play for JRPG fans. After 175 hours completing the story and all the side quests, this is easily one of my favorite games of all time. Expand

One of the best JRPG ever made, nice battle, transformations, "easy battle mode", superb musics, best game of the franchise.

Ultimately, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 represents the pinnacle of the series, both gameplay-wise and narratively. The characters are another highlight of the game. They are well-drawn, with only a small amount of formulaicness. [Issue#321]

I began XC3 knowing I'd enjoy it because of the fun I had with the previous games. What I didn't expect was for this to become one of my favorite JPRGs of all-time! With its engaging open world, engrossing combat system, loveable characters and gripping story, this game is a masterpiece of the genre! [Issue #62 – November/December 2022, p. 67]

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a clear improvement over its predecessors in almost every way. It streamlines so much and avoids past pitfalls, though there’s still work to be done in terms of balancing the difficulty. There’s a grounded story here with a solid cast of characters, and the basic plot is much easier to digest. The world design exceeds past efforts with ease, and the implementation of Hero Quests is a game changer. While the devs have done an admirable job making the battle system easier to grasp, it feels like the series has fully explored and exhausted these core combat mechanics, signaling it’s time for the next game to change things up. As a whole, it stands as a phenomenal RPG with a one-of-a-kind sense of exploration you can’t find anywhere else.
