XCOM 2 Collection is the complete package, giving Switch players a chance to experience one of the best turn-based strategy games of all time. Not even a few technical issues can hurt the unparallel feeling of barely being able to succeed as you lead the resistance against hostile aliens.

Strategy fans who prefer their XCOM on-the-go should consider this a must-have, so long as a huge download and minor bugs aren't deal-breakers. [Issue 1#1, p.56]

If you can get passed some clunky performance, this is an excellent turn-based tactics game to add to the Switch's growing roster.

XCOM 2 is a great option for anyone looking for an entertaining turn-based strategy game on Nintendo Switch today. Mind you, it is a challenging game, which is why perhaps less experienced players can go through some issues while playing the main campaign.

The XCOM 2 Collection is a great addition to the Switch library with its strategic gameplay and intriguing storyline. While there are some issues with framerate drops scattered throughout the massive campaign, this is still a title fans of the genre will love to play on the go.

The world’s best turn-based tactical game makes its way to the Switch mostly intact, ready to entertain and frustrate fans once again, this time on the go.

Between the challenge, the mission variety, and the rock solid gameplay, there’s an incredible amount to like here and the ability to do it anywhere you want is enticing. The issues I mentioned definitely put a damper on the experience, though, and while some, like the bugs, may improve in time, I doubt we see those load times going anywhere. If you have no other way to experience XCOM 2, it’s still well worth your time. If you are in love with it and need a handheld version, you can feel confident that this is a very solid port. If you’re going to pick any version of the game, though, and handheld play isn’t your top priority, there are better options available.

If you’re looking for a great turn-based strategy title, XCOM 2 Collection is a fantastic option. However, it’s a little hard for me to fully recommend the Switch version due to the numerous performance issues I encountered. But if you can look past these, or if you’re lucky enough to avoid them altogether, XCOM 2 Collection provides one of the best strategy experiences on the Switch.

Despite some serious technical compromises this is still XCOM 2 and playing it on Switch in handheld mode is just as engrossing as any other version.

XCOM 2 is, at five years old, a stone cold classic. The XCOM 2 Collection on the Switch may have some technical issues, with framerate and resolution being the most prevalent, but having the ability to play this amazing title on the go far outweighs any problems you might experience. Let's be real; you aren't playing XCOM 2 for the graphics anyhow. All of the strategy, depth and fun is accounted for here. Highly recommended.

Ultimately your enjoyment of the Switch port comes down to whether you value accessibility over performance. XCOM 2 is a fantastic game and is a great title to play on the go If you are looking for the definitive XCOM experience it may be best to stick to the PC version. If you can handle the performance issues and you’ve already burned through the Switches excellent library of similar titles then this game is absolutely worth recommending.

If you already own these games, I wouldn't necessarily recommend the XCOM 2 Collection, but otherwise it's worth it despite the concessions.

XCOM 2 Collection is bursting with a treasure trove of awesome content that you can enjoy the fantastic SRPG gameplay within. Also, although it suffers from some performance issues, being able to play it portably is a welcome treat.

Although this Switch port evolves XCOM 2 in yet another way, it does make many sacrifices that may make or break the experience for newbies. The controls and overall gameplay of XCOM 2 is as good as ever with this port, which are two of the most important factors with it being so competent both docked and in handheld mode. If you’re willing to stomach some muddy visuals and frame rate issues when transitioning from one scene to another, it could be argued the Nintendo Switch is the best platform to own the XCOM 2 Collection. Being able to play XCOM 2 on the go is such a nice perk. 2K has evolved Firaxis Games and Feral Interactive’s deep strategy title in yet another way and I’m looking forward to seeing where the series goes from here.

Such a great game is now portable. Despite some technical limitations, this port is a great entry to Switch library, but portability really is the best aspect.

The XCOM 2 Collection on the Switch is an OK port of a great game and its expansion. If you can look past the mediocre performance, what lies underneath is undoubtedly excellent and fun. Since any XCOM game can be a time sink, the ability to have it available on the go can be a mighty strong draw. If you're a fan of the game or genre without other means to play it, this is certainly a solid way to do so. If you are able to play it elsewhere, you should decide if the downsides of this port outweigh its portability.

XCOM 2 on the Nintendo Switch is the complete package, including all DLC and the War of the Chosen expansion. Tactical gaming on the go will cost you a little graphical fidelity and a few frames, but in the war against the Elders, it’s a small price to pay.

The XCOM 2 Collection on Switch is the full-fat XCOM 2 and XCOM 2: War of the Chosen experience. Virtuous has had to knock the graphics right down to the lowest setting, there's plenty of framerate issues and bugs that we've already encountered on other platforms and the not-insignificant – but hopefully very shortly patched – problem with the game's character creation pool, but this is still a highly playable version of the game. If you can make peace with some stuttering and long loading times and aren't too offended by pretty ugly textures here and there, you'll be rewarded with one of the very best turn-based tactical titles currently available. XCOM 2 is nothing short of a masterpiece and now you can play it on the go, which we reckon is well worth any sacrifices made here.
