MDickie has done it again, improving on his wrestling game that he's been developing for years. It's as addictive as ever and it's honestly the reason I picked up my Switch again after not using it for quite some time.
This just proves that you don't need AAA studio graphics or a massive dev team to make a good, fun, entertaining video game that obviously has a lot of passion put into it.

It’s a 10 from me because I’ve had so much fun playing this game. I would be fool if I were a critical review to give this a game a 10. It has so much wrong with it I wouldn’t know where to stop criticising the game. As a long time wrestling fan mind this is a dream come true. So much fun

Just an unbelievable fun game. Is it rough around the edges? Sure. Easily the best wrestling campaign I've played in a long time. Feels loosely like No Mercy. The game will keep receiving updates. If you are a fan of wrestling games at all this is a must get.

I feel like most critic reviews do not understand the real appeal of this game. If I could describe this game in three words it would be chaos, wacky and fun. Hear me out here, you probably wouldn't agree with my rating, but I ABSOLUTELY **ADORE** Mat Dickie's games, the campaign and gameplay is so fun, and it's probably my favorite Switch wrestling game. For me, the only reason it's not a 9/10 is because of the bugs, I personally have no problem with them, but you most likely will. The game is like licorice, you either adore it or despise it.

Wrestling Empire is a ridiculously fun wrestling simulation game that has an actual fun career mode with tons of replayabilty and and almost roguelike feel as you never know what brand or match is coming next. The fact that this is V1 with plenty more coming and all of it done by one man makes this even amazing. Highly recommended.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is fantastic, it has improved on many things from Wrestling Revolution 3D. Despite not having all the features of WR3D, the improvements made in this game make it a blast to play. Moves are so much more fluid. For example, my create a wrestler is able to go from running into a sleeper from behind, take the opponent down to the mat into a camel clutch then wrap his legs around the opponent into a choke, all without letting out or pressing many additional buttons. When executing a spinebuster you can spin your opponent in a circle with the joystick or just deliver it clean. It's pretty much like having full control, it's easy to counter moves for some pretty impressive spots. There are more wrestlers in this game and more options when creating a character or editing an existing one. MDickie has stated he will be updating the game at no additional cost, so one can expect to receive updates to the game over time after purchasing. He has talked about other features that will be coming. It's such an impressive game especially considering it was made by one person. The graphics may look "bad" to some but they are made to emulate the N64 era experience and there is a lot of detail in the character's motion and even their facial expressions change in different situations and during the matches. Wild stuff happens throughout your career, not just to you but to other wrestlers in the game. The universe you're in evolves with your career. Other wrestlers change promotions, retire and worse. It's such a fun game and was the main decision in even buying a Switch. I put so many hours into WR3D that I knew it would be worth the investment and it has not been a disappointment at all. Expand

Great career mode, flexible customization, clockwork performance, and a complex and responsive moveset. That said, go in expecting indie/retro level graphics and an engine with more than it's fair share of glitches and jank. If you give this game a chance the glitches become part of the charm.

At first glance, this game maybe doesn't look that great. But the more you play (or watch) it, the more you realize how great it is. There is so much you can do in that game. Insane moves, a crazy selection of weapons and match types. Sure, the gameplay may not be the smoothes and it can be hard to get into it, but it's still a lot of fun.
But the best part of course is the story mode.

But the best part of course is the story mode. That mode is pure insanity. The game world still exists in the background which makes everything feel alive and the newspaper headlines are a nice touch to add to this. They also bring some of my favorite moments from this game, like weird or funny title changes or even wrestlers dying. I laughed way too many times at this mode and I think most fans would get a kick out of it.
On top of that, Matt also said that there will be more content added with free updates on the future. If this is true the game has the potential to not only get a even higher rating, but to also be one of the greatest wrestling game ever. So if you read this and think about buying it, the awnser is absolutely. It's worth every penny and you will get a lot of fun out of this game

This is one of deepest/funnest wrestling games I’ve played in my life. It’s not perfect but it sits very well beside WWE 2K20. If it was possible to port over the phone version of this game with how much he’s cleaned it up this switch version it would be an even higher score. Keep up the hard work M-Dickie, your work is incredible. I wish 2K had half the heart.

The poor critical reviews completely miss the point. This is the most ridiculous, fun and addictive wrestling game to play on basically any platform, up there with a classic like No Mercy on the N64. Yes it's janky, yes it's stupid, yes it's buggy, but none of that matters; in fact, it's kind of the point.

Wrestling Empire offers the career mode most wrestling fans are hoping for from a WWE game, but the standard of action inside the ring lets it down. Not quite ‘so bad it’s good’, the wrestling action is just frustrating to play.
  3. 40
It is kind of impressive that one person was able to create a Switch wrestling game that runs well part of the time when two teams at a major pub couldn’t even pull that off. However, Wrestling Empire isn’t quite “so bad it’s good” territory, nor is it the worst. It’s basically the small indie wrestling company bringing in a guy with TV exposure to sell tickets. And with more competition coming in the short and hopefully longer terms for Switch wrestling games, it’ll be one of those “Oh yeah, that happened” games in short order.
