Warning! this game will not even start without a permanent internet connection! This is NOT mentioned on the store page! Playing on the bus, or plane or anywhere else on the go is NOT possible. (Unfortunately Nintendo doesn't offer refunds for falsely advertised games like this, so be warned).

[edited] Also: This seems to be a 1:1 port of the ps4 version. All UI text is too small to read on the handheld screen (5px is not large enough to see vital information). And the switch version also has the unfathomable health/HP only on hover-over for ALL enemies and player characters - which makes this game almost tediously unplayable, because of the clumsy controls.

Can someone reasonably explain to me why a single player game with no PVP requires an internet connection to play? The PC version of this game is actually quite good IMHO. Clunky controls make this like playing with your feet while your hands are tied, no touch screen functionality for no reason, missing features do also not make this "the complete" version, like they say (armor customization e.g). Someone on the internet called this a "Russian scam" - I wouldn't go that far, but it's almost there. This is a sloppy, grossly overpriced cash grab port Nintendo should have rejected. I recommend playing this on PC (much cheaper too), and staying away from the Switch version, which will just frustrate you. Expand

    It's internet only!

optimization - bad, various bags and lags. No acceptable tutorial. No scenario.

I had to register here to leave my warning. It is a scam indeed. Doesn't tell you it requires online access, until you paid for game. No refund possible. When you are making an online only game, then don't sell it as a single player game for consoles mostly used offline. The game itself is very mediocre and if it would be offline, cheaper and properly advertized probably a solid 5. Expand

As others said before, this game is a scam. I have played the game previously and I was happy to pay a bit extra and get it on Switch since I was not happy that it needs constant internet connection on my phone. There is no mention about this on the store page so I suppose you can file this under false advertising.
The gameplay itself is really fun however. The mechanics are done well and overall its a nice strategy game. Thought if you want to play it at home, you can probably pick it up much cheaper on different platforms.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played the phone version 1st, and enjoyed it well enough. It started with back story and plot line, jump into battle, then had a fairly elaborate tutorial system interwoven with more plot exposition that introduced you to the different features of the game. For a phone game it was actually entertaining.
I eventually stopped playing that one because of the Pay model that it used, further in the game, similar to many phone games. Get you hooked then pop goes the Pay to win.
I purchased the switch version thinking it would be identical to the phone one, but without the micro transactions (nintendo at least makes them say if they have in-game transactions, which it didn't).

    Wrong, well, 1/2 wrong..

So far no micro transactions. HOWEVER, the Switch version has eliminated ALL the intro cut scenes, storyline, and almost ALL of the beginning tutorial and levels. All the features the phone version slowly unlocked and explained are all just there, no real explanation how to use them.

This makes the switch version have no plot, no real instructions but a hasty in-game tutorial, and no motivation to seek revenge against the chaos trap and save your battle brothers.

Think final fantasy 7 with no dialog or story, you just run around killing things. What was a somewhat tedious, but enjoyable game has become something worse, lost in translation to the Switch.

If the Warhammer universe is well represented, a weak performance, unbalanced combat system, random tactical component that discards any strategic ambitions and the game's impractical requirements, which demand a permanent internet connection, make the handheld experience near impossible to enjoy and something very difficult to recommend.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf offers decent strategy gameplay for those fans looking for something as similar to XCOM as possible. However, lacking tutorials, weak story, and watered-down mechanics make Space Wolf feel like XCOM-lite with cards.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf has moments of enjoyment and there is definitely depth to be found in building multiple decks, but the slow speed of the game and the random nature of the enemy placements diminishes what fun there is to be had. The Warhammer 40,000 universe is currently underrepresented on the Nintendo Switch and fans of the franchise might enjoy the game as a simple strategy game that uses the lore of the series, but there isn't much else to recommend for those who aren't familiar with the tabletop game.
