Warframe is free to play so if you're on the fence about whether or not you'd like it, there's no harm done in giving it a shot - this Switch version is a high quality port.

That said, I did not enjoy this game beyond the initial excitement over the fluid movement system. It's an exceptionally grindy game, with decent combat that unfortunately quickly gets boring as you fight the same enemies over and over with little story to explain why. There's so many game mechanics and systems here that it's overwhelming for new players, and the game does a poor job of explaining a lot of these. You may need to frequently Google what things mean, what certain resources are for, how the different currencies are used, and more.

The levels have procedurally generated layouts so they tend to be pretty boring and repetitive, and though there are quests that tell a story, after 35 hours I still didn't really know who I was, what I was doing or why I was killing everyone. There may have been some good story content and more engaging gameplay to come but I couldn't be bothered slogging through any more of the game that I was finding too boring and easy.

Still, if the idea of being a space ninja appeals to you, and you don't mind devoting a lot of time to grinding and learning this game's systems, you might find some fun here.

As I played Warframe, I couldn't stop thinking of Dauntless–another FTP game mostly based on cooperative battles and collecting loot. At first sight, the two games couldn't be more different: where Dauntless is ugly and filled with stale fantasy cliches, Warframe has some of the best graphics available on the Switch, and its sci-fi world is original and rich in interesting lore. At first sight, the two games couldn't be more different: where Dauntless is ugly and filled with stale fantasy cliches, Warframe has some of the best graphics available on the Switch, and its sci-fi world is original and rich in interesting lore. On the other hand, a few hours into Warframe, I realized how similar the two games are. Both provide a deluge of mechanics and subsystems, but they're ultimately centered on a shallow game loop and insubstantial combat mechanics. As a result, both games soon devolve into a repetitive grind.

    Pros:
    - The smooth graphics will make you forget that you're playing a portable system.
    - The game world is way more original than the typical sci-fi game.
    - Not as greedy as some other FTPs: the market is expensive, but you can play without it.

    Cons:
    - The combat is exciting at first, but grows stale very soon.
    - The melee action is shaky and shallow, but (at least in the beginning) way more efficient than the more interesting firearms combat.
    - It has a huge amount of content, but it takes only a few hours for the procedurally generated missions to look all the same.

The game is fine on Switch. In every aspect of the game Panic Button does an excellent job! Except controls of movement and camera, but maybe it's DE's fault. Two things in overall feels weird.

1st: Left and right sticks have giant center deadzones, it needs to be redused (be smaller) by 1/2 or even 3/4. This problem leads to clumsy aiming and overall warframe movement when try to smoothly aim and follow the target, or slowly walk or sneak closely to enemies with such crappy stick setup.

2nd: Bigger delay (about 1/2 slower than on PC with same 30 fps locked and with connected Xbox 360 controller) when run, walk or sprint and try to slide with pressing and holding L button. It confuses and you frantically trying to figure out, this is something with a game or something with joy-cons. (joy-cons fully working ones, in other games L button works well).

I hope Digital Extremes and Panic Button can fix this issues and the game will be more enjoyable.

This is a really poor port for the switch. I understand that they wanted to still have the same look as the PC and other console versions, but they can actually run warframe at a steady framerate. The switch's port is very buggy at the moment and hopefully they will improve it but right now it's not fun trying to run around at an average 15-20 fps. If you really want to play warframe on the go they sure give it a try but maybe the develeprots will give the switch the support it needs. Expand

For some reason, games on consoles have been getting the mobile problem, where everything is cryptic, it’s always a question on what the hell is happening, there are always menus within menus, and it’s never obvious what you’re supposed to do

One of the best SyFy F2P shooters on the market comes to Nintendo Switch thanks to the work of Panic Button. In addition to an immense content, we have a fast-paced story, excellent gameplay and a memorable soundtrack.

A treat to the eyes, Warframe is a beautiful looking free-to-play game that presents a fast-paced and very fluid third-person shooter gameplay. Despite being a bit grindy, it has a huge amount of content to be enjoyed with friends.

Warframe is a fantastic sci-fi shooter with a very consumer-friendly business model and a ton of free content.
