    Unrailed! has the personality of games like Minecraft and Terraria, but it provides its own unique experience. Try out a quick gaming session with some friends, and you’re likely to end up working on the railroad all the livelong day.

    Filled with humour, as well as a great level of challenge, Unrailed! features a steep difficulty curve that will require some time to get used to, and this is one of the game's weaknesses, especially as the multiplayer is its main selling point. But those willing to learn its dynamics will be rewarded with a work that's both hilarious and unforgettable.

    Unrailed creates a party game atmosphere in a voxel diorama setting. The mechanics are simple for pick-up-and-play family parties of all ages but anyone looking for in-depth strategies and play will find it sorely lacking. While its graphical design is cute, the camera view loses a lot of this design quality leaving the players to squint to see any kind of detail. It brings the party atmosphere with an innovative idea but by simplifying the activities lowers the excitement potential. There’s fun to be had here but mostly as a warm up.

    Despite a well-executed premise and pleasing blocky visual aesthetic, Unrailed is ultimately a short-lived game. It tries to promote replayability with an inbuilt achievement system, leaderboards and different modes, but this doesn’t disguise a lack of depth to the core gameplay. It’s still an enjoyable experience though and whilst solo play won’t hold you for too long, if you can gather a group of friends to join, this is one co-op game worth looking into.

    1. After completing a biome you can't save it yet. You have to complete the first leg of the *next* biome before you can save your progress. This results in frustrating start-overs because you have no idea what the mechanics are in the new biome. Why do I have to redo the end of a level that I completed, because I didn't know how to get water in the new level? Water!?!
    2. The save states can only be used once. This means that if the game crashes you lose several hours of work.

    It's a disappointment because the concept is fine, but the game is organized so poorly that no one will have the patience to see it through. I don't know why the makers are so stingy with their procedural content. If I complete a level I'd like to save and come back to it later. It's 2021.     Very tense party game for 4 players that requires teamwork and multitasking, definitely an underrated gem and provided hours of fun

    This is a really great multiplayer game, and if you get it on sale you are getting a real bargain. I've only played it multiplayer, but it's at least forgiving enough that I can play it with my partner without much arguing, but challenging enough so that you have to communicate, and there isn't time when one player is doing everything. I'm sure if I play further I will find things to complain about but so far I just enjoy the hybrid action, puzzle, strategy experience.… Full Review »
