Troll and I has to be taken as an indie title, despite its triple AAA ambition. As such, it's an interesting game, mainly for the Switch as it lacks this kind of titles. Graphics may look bad on interiors, but there are certainly nice views while traveling outdoors.
I believe I was lucky, for I didn't encounter as many bugs as some are reporting during the 10 hours it took me to complete

Not an amazing game, but does not deserve all the hate it's been getting.

I would be lying if I said that Troll and I is a game that by current triple AAA standards, is not an absolute joke, but if you look into the history of the game and the developers, it is easy to gain a soft spot for it. A game that was greenlighted after being voted in before it got shoved around publishers until its eventual release by a company that will pretty much publish anything with basic game mechanics (Maximum games).

A game that is constantly poked for being the Last Guardian rip off despite nearly having the same developmental time. I also find this game very comparable to Devils Third, a game that was released for the Wii U and if had come out when it was supposed to, it would have been a standard product.

The mechanics are extremely basic but fairly smooth despite the frequent bugs (I assume its bugs come from being constantly shoved onto a more high power system to keep up with the times). The storyline is a tale as old as time (sorry, I had to) but it's still mildly enjoyable, especially with the laughably dated graphics in the cutscenes. The puzzles are fun and simple and I can't help but love the big adorable Rastafarian E.T.

its hilariously outdated nature and many bugs, which include no clipping through walls, the map shaking for no reason and falling through the floor which with context is understandable but still hard to unironically be interested in the game aside. The biggest criticisms of the game are 1. painful backtracking and 2. barely any clue as to what you're supposed to be doing at times.

Conclusion: After understanding why the game is in the condition it is, it's easier to enjoy the game as the cute little puzzle one it is. You get connected to the big troll and working out each puzzle by alternating between the big Troll and the boy is fun as well as simple. Unfortunately, after it is filled with bugs and glitches and having a short run time, the game is not worth its big $50 price tag, but a 50% + sale will give you the enjoyment the game offers I think.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Possibly the worst game to grace the Nintendo Switch, Troll and I really is something that you will want to stay away from. If you are daft enough to spend full price on this, then I simply have no sympathy for you. It's a shame, as the premise could have made for fun - if everything else in this game wasn't so god damned awful!

I derived no enjoyment from playing the broken Troll and I, or in writing this review. Do not buy this game in favour of the many wonderful Switch eShop titles on offer representing a significantly better return on time and monetary investment.

For every intriguing idea that Troll and I presents, there are a couple of design choices or technical issues that will aggravate players. It’s ugly, clunky and bereft of certain amenities that players take for granted in this day and age. With so many games out to garner people’s attention, Troll and I isn’t as user friendly or quickly appealing as it needs to be in a flooded space. If you are someone who can look past technical hurdles there may be something worth divining here, but as a whole Troll and I is difficult to recommend.
