There’s a ton to like about The Library of Babel. From a presentation standpoint, this is one of the strongest games I’ve played in 2023. That just makes it more annoying when the title’s core gameplay mechanics don’t hold up to the experience the developers have created. While they’re mostly okay in the early going, as the game tries to push players further, they simply don’t hold up well to what’s being asked of them. I still overall had a good time with The Library of Babel, and this is a game that, with a bit more refinement, could really have been something special, but as is, this is a game I can only recommend strongly to die-hard fans of classic cinematic platformers.

I personally don’t necessarily like auto-runner, but I don’t mind games like that for lunch breaks at work or when I am waiting somewhere. I did encounter a few framerate drops while on handheld mode, but nothing major. The game is fairly short and easy in general, but it gets challenging towards the end. I honestly enjoyed the game and I like the fact the towers are randomly generated as you cannot memorize the levels which I am usually good at. You get a second chance if you get hit, but you fall into another state and it takes a certain time to get used to that mechanic. You can chose to go slower or faster. No comment on music as it was turned off. This game deserves an 5.5 out of 10 in my book and I would recommend picking it up when there is a sale. Full Review »
