A Lovecraft-inspired visual novel with a few rogue-lite and heavy resource management elements that have a detrimental effect on the narrative and the general atmosphere.

Theatre of Sorrows isn't worth your time. It's dressed up nicely with some good art and the occasional sinister moment to dwell on, but underneath that is little more than a basic resource management experience, with such egregious repetition through its "roguelike" elements that it becomes rote well before you've even finished the game for the first time. As a carefully-planned, linear and focused experience, Theatre of Sorrows could have been something creepy and evocative. Instead, it's like reading the same snippets of Lovecraft over and over again. Do that, and it doesn't take long at all for them to lose all meaning and value.

It is a resource management game with a choose your own adventure style. Strong art style (similar to Darkest Dungeon) with an interesting occult storyline. Is a quick game but has replayability. There's no combat so if you're looking for that type of game this is not it.

I only wish there was a achievements section so we can see our progress of tailsmens, outfits, monsters and multiple endings. I struggled to find how many different endings there are but I think it's 5.

I'm looking forward to the next one!

Nobody is writing too much about the game yet, and that's my surprise for January. Very cool for lovers of horror climates.
