Apr 2, 2026A mix of pointed humor, some procedural unpredictability, and what feels like a unique challenge help to at least make this an interesting experience overall.

Feb 9, 2026What ultimately defines The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest is its willingness to lean into the messy, unpredictable chaos of its themes. This is a game that thrives on unevenness, unfair boss fights, delightful absurdity, random map generation, and moments that make you throw your controller only to pick it up again with stubborn determination. It isn’t polished to a sheen, nor does it always feel fair, but it understands its own tone and purpose, and the developer acknowledges this throughout the game. Fletcher’s Quest is a game that feels like its own critique: uncomfortably familiar to anyone who’s lived through crunch, burned out, or felt their own creativity turn into an adversary. Well, hello, therapy and burnout, good to see you again, but gamified this time.

Apr 20, 2026Overall, The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest is a fun experience that’s light on the metroidvania aspects. It’s well designed and executed, if a little short. This makes it an easy way to pass a few hours, and it scratches that exploration itch. It might be a little crude at times, but The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest was a game I think I’ll remember in a sea of similar titles.

Feb 26, 2026The Prisoning is an interesting and unique game and really goes a long way to justifying the return of Acclaim. It feels familiar enough, yet sprinkling in a host of flavor to make it stand out. I really enjoyed playing through the game. The boss fights are the highlight for sure, and I wish it was a bit more fleshed out, but this is a novel title that breaks the standard on several levels. Definitely worth checking out.

Feb 9, 2026You can’t go through half a steam store page without tripping over a Metroidvania. Lots of great experiences to be had exploring wide ranging maps with hard stop gates you can only cross once you get that next special ability. The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest decided to step in that pond but stayed in the shallow end of map travel. There’s some comedy that oversteps the bounds of where my humor lies. Bluntly, in these spaces, a little bit of editing could go a long way. That said, when the jokes do hit, they’re really funny. When Elden Pixels tees up a gameplay surprise, it’s pure joy. When you get to that next boss, you’re going to feel good about dispatching them. The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest is a game whose highs are in the atmosphere, and is short enough where the flaws aren’t felt for long.

Feb 9, 2026The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest is a great little Metroidvania, full of wacky antics and charm. Its tight controls and strong design make the journey through perilous areas a thrill, while the catchy themes linger long after the relatively short runtime. Boss battles are varied and there are some genuinely funny moments; however, the mission structure can feel repetitive, and some of the randomness lacks clear context and doesn’t always land. Despite its creativity and polish, it risks being overlooked in an already crowded genre.

Feb 26, 2026I enjoyed playing The Prisoning: Fletcher's Quest and had some laughs but its basic gameplay and small scope certainly make it feel limited.

Feb 25, 2026The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest on Nintendo Switch is a meticulously built yet curiously lifeless micro-metroidvania, where, despite the controls being super-sharp and its pixel art vibrant, the adventure feels boxed in. Repetitive rooms, shallow exploration, and a brief runtime make it resemble a neat demo instead of the real deal. As for its constant meta commentary, it’s very amusing for about 30 minutes, but ultimately drains the world of its potential to immerse.
-
Feb 17, 2026Ultimately, The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest is a solid, compact experience that showcases strong fundamentals. Movement feels good, boss encounters are engaging, and the writing has a distinct voice. At the same time, its most promising mechanics are not explored deeply enough, and its metroidvania elements remain surface level. The procedural component adds replay value in theory, but does not meaningfully expand the scope. For anyone seeking a brief, well controlled action platformer with personality, it delivers. For those expecting a robust, sprawling metroidvania, it may feel underdeveloped. It is a good game that hints at something greater, even if it never fully reaches that potential.
