The dungeons are still lack luster and repetitive compared to previous zelda titles. The overworld is mostly unchanged as are the graphics, music and a lot of the equipment. That's disappointing. However, there are two new overworlds to explore — there's not as much to them and they're both repetitive and mostly empty, but they're still new additions I guess. The new powers are fun, but feel goofy, clunky and in some ways made for the memes. That being said, the memes are hilarious, so again, silly and disappointing? For sure. Still fun? For a while.
Was hoping for some exciting new improvements to the botw system for the $70 price tag, but alas.
Overall, it's a really fun game for the first few hours, then the enjoyment steeply drops. Far from the best zelda title ever, it's over hyped and full of recycled content...
The UI is horrible. Do I really need to scroll through LITERALLY EVERY ITEM IN MY INVENTORY to select an attachment for my arrow FOR EVERY SINGLE SHOT?
The building mechanic, while interesting, is really pretty clunky and takes a long time to line things up just right if you're building something complex. If you're building something simple, it feels like filler content.
Combat is weak. Spend 15 minutes mastering perfect dodge and the game becomes a cake walk. But don't worry, it won't always work because your weapon will break after 15 uses, forcing you into another chore.
Lots of farming. Should have been named Tedium of the Kingdom.

TLDR: super repetitive. mostly recycled content. not the best zelda game. UI is awful.
One day, people will look back and feel foolish for praising what is ultimately a lazy cash grab by nintendo.

The game is almost like Zelda BOTW, it's so boring ... the colors are strange, graphics are awful.
To my mind, building things is not part of a role playing game, it's just boring.

This game is not even a five! The graphics are terrible! Hurt my eyes, even after adjusting my TV and Nintendo switch settings! Wait for it to go on sale, if it ever does! 5 minutes into it and you will see why! It does look funish, but the graphics kill it! Hopefully they approve my refund!

It's crazy what Nintendo can get away with even in 2023. Zelda: ToTK has no accessibility options whatsoever. Furthermore, the game uses the exact same world from the previous Zelda (BoTW) and the same combat, which makes the whole experience feels very similar without any significant changes. ToTK is nothing but an expansion to BoTW with few Quality of Life changes. I must also note that the game has absolutely poor performance and outdated graphics. It will dip below 20 frames (FPS) a lot. As well as a big portion of ToTK just feels dull, especially the early hours.

it boggles my mind this game is getting glowing 10/10s despite all of its flaws. Very dishonest review process we're seeing nowadays from critics. Any other game would have been slammed for these flaws, but because it's Zelda and a Nintendo game, we see excuses like "it's an old hardware" even though the hardware has nothing to do with the options. And it's Nintendo's mistake not releasing a more powerful console in 2023. They should be criticized for this, not let them get away with it constantly. Somehow their games are just held to different forgiving standards and excuses that we don't see applied to other games AT ALL.

Bottom line: if you didn't enjoy Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you will certainly not enjoy Tears of the Kingdom as it is very similar and uses many of BoTW's assets. Game doesn't deserve its 70$ price tag whatsoever.

The game suffers from a discordant universe, where the integration of monsters and technological artifacts creates an incongruous atmosphere that detracts from the immersive experience expected from the franchise. The narrative is lackluster, with underdeveloped side characters lacking charisma and a storyline that fails to inspire.

Furthermore, the bosses, previously a highlight, now seem increasingly generic, lacking the originality and intrigue that characterized earlier installments. The game's saving grace is its customizability of builds and environment interaction, which offers some creative gameplay dynamics, but this is not enough to offset the other weaknesses.

The open-world format, a trend in gaming, here feels generic and lacks the unique touch that would differentiate it from countless other open-world games. In essence, Tears of the Kingdom feels like a missed opportunity, a game that took the right risks with its predecessor only to fall back on safer, less inspiring choices, resulting in an experience that is far from the revolutionary gaming experience that was Breath of the Wild.

This game is basically a giant DLC for BotW. I didn't care for the original when it came out, I found it to be quite boring and repetitive with a very lackluster story that I just couldn't bring myself to care about. Tears of the kingdom is unfortunately that same game re-gifted under a different title. The cel shaded graphics are nice to look at, and that's about the most praise I could give.

Not as good as expected. The positive pint is the fact that you can be creative as your imagination allows you, but Nintendo must learn that the technology evolves and power full hardware is needed. Plus there are some “hidden” messages about religion that can be disrespectful with some people. But, well, as a video game, the game is awkward and feels laggy and blurry.

This game and BOTW are completely unforgettable from a soundtrack standpoint. Much of this game feels tedious and pointless, from the stamina meter to the paper mache weapons, to the unnecessary time sink that is cooking. This game and BOTW both feel like someone wanted to create a video game version of that stupid Nintendo Labo crap. Botw and this game should have been a new franchise and then Nintendo could have focused on making an actual Zelda game that would be true to what that series actually has been. I haven’t even touched on the underpowered nature of the Switch, but when you’ve gotten used to playing modern consoles where nearly all games run at 60fps, 1440p or 4K with HDR it is PAINFUL to try and play a game that runs at 30fps (at best) with muted colors and jaggies everywhere from lack of resolution. TotK starts with 4 shrines (last one snow) to get 4 spirit orbs disguised as light spheres, led by the ghost of an old hyrule king. First power up you learn in BOTW is magnet which allows your to float items through the air, first power up you learn in TotK is ultra hand which is basically the same thing. Sheikah slate is the same thing as the purah pad. Skyview towers are the same thing as the Sheikah towers, but rather than figuring out how to climb them, it’s just opening a door then a long winded animation of being slingshotted up into the air and falling back into that zone of the map. The Ascend power up is annoying with having to watch a long animation and then press “escape” when it finally goes through. The time reverse power up is pretty cool, but I’d rather have stasis and the bombs from BOTW. Climbing in the rain was always a very annoying feature of BOTW but it could easily be circumvented by advancing the story and getting revali’s gale early. Looks like they’ve taken that away and your best bet is roaming around and finding fallen rocks and doing time reversal on them. Or finding shelter and passing time at a fire, which was always tedious. Or sticky frog potion. Getting a power up that made it not as hard was much more rewarding. Also a bad problem to double down on. Story is a lazy, predictable “let’s take all your powers away”. Sky world was already done in probably the worst main game in the series, skyward sword.

I haven’t played enough to get the hang of the vehicle building yet. So I can’t judge that. The shrines and the Korok seeds were a neat, new experience in BOTW, but they’re just slightly amped up but very similar ideas in this “new” game that took 7 years and multiple delays to come out. That’s crazy they delayed it so much only for it to look and play pretty much exactly like an old wiiU game. Not to mention the frame rate peaking at 30fps and often dropping way below that into being super choppy. Not sure I’ve ever been so disappointed in a game

I call this game "Copy/Paste - Find and Replace". Here are just a few examples:

    1. The music is almost completely copy pasted throughout the entire game; I think I noticed 5 new themes while playing.
    2. Ascend rune is just Revali's Gale but now it goes through solid matter.
    3. The time rune no longer freezes time but moves time backwards slowly.
    4. You wake up in a shrine with zero powers.
    5. You start on the “Great” area and can’t leave until you gain your 4 base powers.
    6. Zelda is missing for some reason.
    7. Zelda's Memories are now called Dragon’s Tears.
    8. You have to complete Zonai Shrines instead of Sheikah Shrines to open up warp points.
    9. You have to find all the same armor sets.
    10. You go to each race's region to beat a themed dungeon.
    11. You have to collect stupid Korok seeds.
    12. Weapons are very very fragile (possibly more so than BOTW).
    13. You gather the four Champions to help you fight Ganon.
    14. You have to remove “Corruption” within each race’s region.
    15. You have to complete a dungeon in each race’s region.
    16. Sheikah Towers are now Skyview Towers.

The only new gameplay aspect in this entire game is the fusing/crafting system, which is so needlessly finnicky and restrictive as to deter me wanting to use it. I hope you like building long planks as a ramp or bridge, because that’s largely all you do. Sure, you can build vehicles to your heart’s content, but you have a limited “energy” meter that drains within 5-10 seconds meaning you cannot actually USE any of those vehicles for any meaningful length of time. How do you upgrade your energy meter? Grinding. Lots of grinding. I’m sorry, but I don’t want to grind for 20-30 hours just to improve a **** battery. I want to enjoy a Zelda game, not play an MMO.

Another thing that bothers me is that all of the shrines are stupidly easy. There wasn’t a single one that even /remotely/ used the new mechanics in interesting ways. Nintendo is so proud of its new crafting system that solving a puzzle often times, you guessed it, means you build a ramp or a bridge to cross a gap. Whoopdie damn do.

The temples are seriously the worst in the series. They are all THE SAME TEMPLE, with variations on “how many buttons do I need to press”? You just wander around until you find a button, then you press it. Do this a few times, fight the boss. Temple over. There are no puzzles, no items, no thought. It’s just so incredibly lazy, and I don’t know why they designed them this way.

And why is Zelda relegated to not being a character in this game? In BOTW she was very sympathetic, compelling, and well written. In this one they make her disappear and then she doesn’t have any character change or growth throughout the entire game. She’s there to be a magical mcguffin, and it’s just sad. I wanted her to play a larger role, help Link alongside him this time around, maybe even contribute to gameplay. Nope. Go sit on the sideline and do nothing, Zelda. You aren’t important.

I criticize this game because I know Nintendo is capable of more, and quite frankly this game is just creatively empty to me. Same map, same gameplay, same exact story, same beats…and apparently it took them over 6 years to make. I keep asking myself, how is that possible? I don’t have an answer.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has lived up to the high expectations created by the success of Breath of the Wild with its exquisitely intertwined gameplay systems, outstanding music, and a legendary story culminating in a magnificent denouement. It's not every day that such a special video game like this comes around. Truly the stuff of legend.
