So much fun! Many people didn't like the motion controls, I for one like it, you just need to learn to reset the gyro, it's kinda strange at first, but the moment you get the hang of it becomes a nice enjoyable ride. I think would be a 7-ish game, but I'm having so much fun that I'm can't help myself but to give it a 10, because the point is have fun while playing games, right?!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Skyward Sword HD has become my favorite 3D Zelda game so far. (Out of the Legends of Zelda games I’ve played) The controls are great and everything I love about this game is so good. Definitely worth buying and checking out. I recommend ordering from Amazon because it’s cheaper than getting it digitally for $60. I don’t have any complaints about the game but I am giving it a 9 because it’s not for everyone and not everyone will enjoy the controls but it’s fine for most people. Expand

Better than BOTW and TOTK. An actual Zelda game, perhaps the last of the series not to be a DLC of BOTW or some other formulaic amalgam of Fortnite, Minecraft, and Dark Souls.

This is a really fun game! Before I say more, I played it without motion control. I loved that you had to use the joystick, it felt so fresh and different from other games. The music and story are also fire. Wish it had a bit more freedom, sometimes, but other than that, this game is pretty underrated, and you should give it a shot if you're into this.

A very linear Zelda game, but a good one. Skyward Sword focuses the most on story. Its flawed, but enjoyable. The boss fights are good and fun, the puzzles and dungeons are fun. But you visit the same three places every time you play the game. You come back to Faron, Eldin, and Lanayru so much it gets a bit annoying. Not a grindy game, and pretty easy, but very fun.

The Legend of Zelda is a saga that entertains millions of gamers for more than three decades, but only in 2011 with The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword attempted to create a solid narrative structure able to contextualize in a time line (mainly in the initial phase) the other chapters of the saga. It's hard to say, at this point, whether this game has provided a clear image of brand's universe. What is certain is that Skyward Sword is a funny game that, surely, cannot be forgotten by those who approach to Zelda's games with Switch.

But let's start from the basics. Skyward Sword remastered HD for Nintendo Switch exploits the potential originally introduced with Nintendo Wii and allows the player to approach to the game play style gradually because, it has to be noted, a very slow start. If however many reviews have often stressed how frustrating this aspect was, my personal opinion is not so bad. On the other hand, seesawing is the experience with the commands: some game stages are not of immediate learning and only after four/five hours of play you can say you have acquired familiarity with the same.

From the beginning you can observe the obsessive attention to details of many settings and interiors that however it's less incisive in later sections of the game. Whether the dungeons can be lived in a in a satisfactory way even after the first visit of the same, sometimes they seem a little empty. This is not a trivial issue but we have to remember that this game was originally developed in 2010/11 and, for the time, maps of those sizes were not underestimated.

Skyward Sword was great when it came out and is still great now. In many ways, it is the pinnacle of Zelda: the best dungeons in the series, the best story in the series, the best music in the series, some of the best setpieces in the series, some of the best characters in the series. What it does, it does exceptionally.

The game also introduces a lot of innovations to the franchise that Breath of the Wild would then expand upon; this was at the time the most extensive arsenal of collectible items in Zelda, and Breath of the Wild expanded on this but arguably actually did it worse; same for Tears of the Kingdom.

However, it is also a game with very large flaws. There is very little exploration in this game, and very little room for player freedom. The game can be far too hand-holding at times, and can be repetitive and feel padded at points.

This game is the polar opposite of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom; what those games to the best, this game does badly, and vice-versa. It just so happens that the things I care about the most: dungeons; a grand contemporaneous story; great music; a sense of progression throughout the game; and the feeling of going on a meticulously hand-crafted adventure, are what this game excels at.

This free-to-play battle royale game has taken the gaming world by storm, captivating millions of players with its vibrant visuals, fast-paced gameplay, and constant evolution. As one of the most popular multiplayer games of all time, Fortnite has successfully redefined the genre and created a dynamic and ever-changing gaming experience.

One of the first things that strikes players when entering the world of Fortnite is its visually appealing and unique art style. The game's colorful, cartoony graphics lend a sense of whimsy to the battlefield, setting it apart from other more realistic-looking battle royale titles. The carefully designed landscapes, diverse locations, and imaginative character designs contribute to an immersive and visually engaging experience.

Fortnite's gameplay is where it truly shines. The battle royale mode drops 100 players onto an island, where they must scavenge for weapons, build structures, and outlast their opponents to be the last one standing. The fast-paced action, combined with the building mechanics, adds a layer of strategic depth and creativity. Whether you're engaging in intense firefights or constructing elaborate fortifications, each match feels unique and dynamic.

One of Fortnite's biggest strengths lies in its constant evolution and content updates. Epic Games has done an exceptional job of keeping the game fresh and engaging by regularly introducing new weapons, items, limited-time events, and map changes. This constant stream of updates ensures that players always have something to look forward to and helps maintain a sense of excitement and community engagement within the game.

Fortnite's cross-platform compatibility is another standout feature. Whether you're playing on a PC, console, or mobile device, you can seamlessly join your friends and compete together. The ability to connect and play with friends across different platforms has greatly contributed to Fortnite's widespread popularity and fostered a global gaming community.

Furthermore, Fortnite has transcended the boundaries of gaming, becoming a social space where players can gather and interact. The inclusion of the Party Royale mode, which removes combat elements and focuses on socializing and attending virtual events, highlights the game's commitment to providing diverse experiences beyond traditional gameplay. From live concerts featuring popular artists to virtual movie screenings, Fortnite has become a hub for communal entertainment and shared experiences.

While Fortnite's success cannot be denied, it's worth noting that the game's microtransaction system has received some criticism. While the core game is free to play, players can purchase cosmetic items, such as character skins and emotes, through in-game purchases. While these transactions are purely optional and do not impact gameplay, some argue that the pricing of certain items can be steep.

In conclusion, Fortnite has left an indelible mark on the gaming landscape. Its visually stunning aesthetics, dynamic gameplay, regular content updates, and innovative social features have transformed it into a global sensation. Beyond its gaming mechanics, Fortnite has become a cultural phenomenon, bringing players together and creating shared experiences like no other. Whether you're a fan of battle royale games or simply seeking an immersive multiplayer experience, Fortnite is a must-try title that continues to shape the industry and redefine what multiplayer gaming can be.

The maps are well designed, albeit overused. Look, it’s a flawed game, but I would love to see the theme we see in this game with other games. I didn’t like exploring the seas in Windwaker, but I desperately wanted to explore the skies in SS.

The later dungeons in the game are some of my favorite dungeons in all of Zelda. And, traditional Zelda’s have a “sneak don’t fight” part of their games. Those parts usually annoy me, but I found myself looking forward to those levels because it allowed the player to develop strategies to run through the same map again.

You get the ability to upgrade your items, take advantage of a simple crafting system, and feel the exhilaration of soaring through the air.

There's a lot of controversy around this game that just shouldn't be there. Those originally came to be because of Fi and motion controls. Even with this game's changes to directly mitigate those, the same gripes are being repeated in a way that implies no changes have been made at all. Since this isn't a new game, you can easily look at critic reviews / videos and decide whether it's a game you would enjoy. I would definitely recommend if it looks fun to you. Make no mistake, this is a lot of people's favorite Zelda.

The art style for this game is appealing. Skyloft is very beautiful. The color palette they used makes me smile just looking at the scenery combined with the music. The characters are lovable and memorable as well.

The gameplay is not perfect but I like it a lot. I didn't struggle with the motion controls but I can see why some people would. But once you get used to it, controlling Link will be akin to riding a bicycle. Plus, the button controls are really good! So pick your preference.

Overall, the game feels fresh despite being released in 2011. The price is a bit steep for a game that's 12 years old but imo it's still definitely worth investing money and time on.

Telling a more compelling story than any Zelda in history, with beautiful HD visuals that really bring this colorful game to life, and quality of life improvements that make the game FUN to play makes this already great game into a near masterpiece. From flying on your Loftwing around a sky filled with islands, to exploring the untouched world down below, all while experiencing fun characters with their own arcs and development… Truly I cannot recommend this game enough. Unlike some HD Remasters that only upscale the source, this game feels closer to a remake with all the wonderful improvements and changes they’ve made, making it without a doubt a true definitive version.
Skyward Sword has been near and dear to my heart for a long time, but never more so than it is now. Whether you’ve never played before or only played it once back on the Wii, I can’t recommend it enough. This version has definitely pushed this game into being one of my favorites of all time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game, the art style is beautiful, all the gadgets and items Link can use throughout the story are great, and I never had any issues with the motion controls. After playing BOTW you appreciate this game more for its level design and classic dungeons.

The closest thing I have to a complaint is how amazingly optimized and dense the world's are to be able to fit a game of this scope on a DVD at the time, so you'll be discovering new places of individual worlds at time kind of like a metroidvania.

Also, there's a game mechanic that is literally mole mania. Awesome stuff

Button mode isn't complicated if you only play 15 mins and quit cause of **** controls than you haven't even tried or read anything. The game explains it perfectly so how about reading stuff -.- Nintendo can't remake the entire game into something like botw this game was build around motion controls take that away and the game would be way too easy. This game is one of the best Zelda Games so I'd appreciate if people actually tried to play to the end. It's a wonderful story... I just hate all those peeps that joined the community after botw but yet they only play botw cause the other games are ****
This game is a 10 for me in every aspect
Good Controls (both motion and button mode)

The dungeons, story, and characters are top notch, and I also really enjoyed the motion control combat. Yes, it can be linear and repetitive at times, but overall, this is a game worth playing for any Zelda fan.

The stylization of skyward sword is wonderful, the characters are unique and in Zelda fashion. The story, cinematics, and what I thought was as the first real glimpse at romance between link and Zelda was cute. I truly enjoyed and had a great experience overall.

My only major complaint, which did take a few hours of gameplay to finally become used to, the action controls. I do wish it was standard hack n slash like most Zeldas. The directional attack using R is a cool way to mirror the original’s combat style, but I would have loved an option to rework the mechanics for standard buttons for slicing. You eventually become used it, and it did grow on me, but being able to switch would be amazing.

The dreamy watercolor aesthetic just works and doesn't look aged at all with the slight HD upgrade. Of course the music is amazing as ever.
When I played the original, I thought the motion controls were really innovative if not entirely necessary. It was certainly the best use of the technology in a big budget conventional style game. That said, no one (myself included) was disappointed that the trend didn't continue. When I started HD, I went back and forth with the control scheme, but fairly quickly settled into button control for the majority. The motion controls work well for combat, but it gets tiring pretty quick. Not that it's physically demanding, but when you want to unwind with a video game, you don't want sit in a certain position and always worry about your hands. The button controls give the same effect of directional swinging and let you sit back and relax. I would actually like to see them implemented in a future game.
Having the control option easily makes this the best version of and already great game. Oddly enough, it makes me understand the frustration many had with the original. It would be cool if they could have a third hybrid option where only combat is motion control. Flying and using the beetle were always clunky on the Wii. Skyward Sword has all the things that make Zelda great: Story, characters, gameplay, dungeons and some terrific boss fights. There's no excuse now to not play this game.

As for the game itself, motion controls are creative, easy to pick up and fun (and people who complain about them probably aren't even capable of using a fork and a knife to eat), dungeons are brilliant, I seriously can't get enough of the art style, and the story is pretty enjoyable and provides some cool explanations on the series' lore. But this is a motion control heavy game, particularly in terms of attacking with specific motions. The game is far from unplayable, but I’d say to expect the Joycon to read your motions correctly just south of 60% of the time when attacking. Also, when using equipment which requires you to aim, or even when looking around in first-person mode, keep your thumb on the Y button, because you’re going to have to readjust the gyroscope just about every time. Overall, this is a great game and deserves the accolades it has received, but if you can play it on the Wii, do yourself a favor and play it there first. Otherwise you might risk having a sour taste in your mouth about a brilliantly designed game. Expand

I feel this is a very underappreciated game in the franchise, it is actually quite good Imo. Definitely not the best in the series, but there's plenty of fun to be had.

There are some small improvements in the game besides the resolution & framerate bump - like being able to skip cut-scenes, skip FI's annyong interruptions etc. Those probably won't convince you to like the game any more if you didn't already, but for someone like me, it's great.

I gave it a 9/10 on the Wii, but I feel the improvements aren't significant enough to varrant a score higher than 8/10 for Switch, as there's no graphical improvements other than resolution - no improved textures, lighting & effects etc. And the new control scheme leaves a lot to be desired Imo.

A really fun game overall, but this version could be much better if Nintendo for once was willing to put in the actual effort.

    85/100!
Incredible upgrade system with the shield, amazing landmarks in the world, awesome musical score, and the motion controls added a lot of engagement to the battles. It looks great too!
I also think that as a game that's first in the timeline, it does it's job perfectly!

For those that haven't played SS before, the game features some of the most fun and creative dungeons in the history of the franchise. The Sandship requires you to manipulate time to solve the puzzles whilst in Sky Keep you will constantly have to rearrange the layout of the dungeon to progress. SS also see's an imaginative array of weapons such as Mogma Mitt's which allow you to dig and eventually burrow underground and the Dust Bellows which allows link to clear sand and move certain objects. Many of the items are also upgradable enabling you to either improve one of it's traits such as the strength. This was one of my favourite additions to the game and I was disappointed that the feature wasn't carried over to BOTW. Outside of the main story there isn't as much to do as other Zelda titles but there are still enough side quests to keep you occupied and help give a run time of around 50 hours.

Those that played this on the Wii will be glad to see that there are plenty of quality of life improvements. The most notable is the ability to choose between motion controls or standard controls. Personally I think the standard controls are a welcome improvement over the motion controls but they still do have some issues. The sword is mapped to the R stick due to the game originally being designed around motion controls but it can still be a little bit fiddly at times. On top of this improvement it is now possible to speed-up text and skip cut scenes, certain sections have been streamlined, an auto-save feature has been introduced as well as removing the repeated text every time you pick up an item. Best of all though is the ability to reduce the interference from Fi.

The biggest issue is that it is clear that more could have been done to make the game look better. Whilst largely thanks to the art-style, SS is still a decent looking game, I really don't see why Nintendo couldn't have put more effort into making SS looks like a game released in 2021 rather than just give it a minor polish.

All in all, SS is a very good game and if you have never played SS before or, like myself, are a massive Zelda fan then I would recommend this in spite of it's controversial price point. Otherwise you would probably be best waiting for a price drop.

You can skip cutscenes, flick through speech quicker than before, and reduce the frequency with which Fi interrupts you.

It's worth a note, however, that this title isn't for everyone, especially if you've not dived into Zelda's back catalogue beyond the last entry. The level design is particularly linear and on-rails, with emphasis mostly on brain-teaser puzzles and unique fighting encounters. You won't have a large, open world to explore every nook and cranny of, aside from some small rock formations that are dotted about Skyloft.

The scattered level design with multiple short loading windows whenever you travel between environments will get tedious toward the end too, and the mechanics to craft and upgrade your gear are a little redundant when they're never truly needed to progress. Some of the ideas presented here were clearly translated into BOTW in more meaningful and objectively better ways, but it's interesting as a Nintendo fan to see them first implemented here.

Where the game does succeed is in its character arcs and immersive setting. You'll feel compelled to finish the title just to see where it all ends up - and the final bosses are a stylish marvel for hardware that is fifteen years old. Combat is fun and unique, with the new button controls removing the frustration of unreliable motion gimmicks once you get the hang of it.

And while you can't run about freely in a massive environment, Skyward Sword still encourages you to dive deeper into its NPC questlines, hidden secrets in the form of Goddess Cubes and Gratitude Crystals, and its bug catching mechanics.

You can purchase items and medals to help improve your odds of success and there are many Skyloft residents who offer small quests to give you a nice break from the intense main story. Overall, this remains one of my favourite Zelda titles, despite its wearied design and controversy within the fanbase.

It is well worth a play - though I do wish Nintendo had lowered the price to around £35.

I had a good time playing Skyward Sword. Dungeon design is excellent; visuals while definitely old generation, holds well due to art style; and the motion controls add interesting gameplay possibilities, even if gets irritating when your movement doesn't translate well to the game.

I think this remaster could've came up at least with a significant visual uptade, but as I said before, the art style holds well and don't hurt the eyes.

Along the minor but welcomed modifications done in this HD version, I highlight the fact they shut the mouth of this nosy partner called Fi a little. Now is up to you to listen to her tips or advices, she doesn't intrude anymore if she's not called. Believe me, you'll be grateful for this. Motion less controls are also available as well, but given how the game was build, motion is still the best way to play it for the most part. I said most part, because flying on the bird and diving with button controls is the way to go (its possible to switch controls by going to the menu)

However, even enjoying my playthrough with Skyward Sword, I must say this is not quite there among the most memorable and unforgettable Zelda games. The environments, characters and overall feel are not quite as charming or charismatic like the Wind Waker or Majora's mask. But what really really annoys me the most is that due to the lack of explorable areas (just 3), the game keeps recycling them sometimes proposing annoying tasks and challenges that felt blatantly tacked on to make it last longer, like: fight the same boss 3 times; backtrack to an already explored dungeon to get an item; collect redundant stuff and on. It's not fun! Felt like work and also hurt the overall pace. It takes about 30 hours to reach the end and it didn't feel necessary to be this long. If an 4th explorable area wasn't possible to avoid filler quests, I think cut the game shorter would be a better decision.

I'm not a hater nor a lover of this game. I don't mind motion controls. I'm somewhere in the middle and I like it for what it is and dislike it for what it is not. I played through the original game about 5 times (I played OoT like 30 times, so yeah.) so I guess I'm more toward the lover side. I played all mainline Zeldas and I think I'm quite objective in my opinions, lol.

I was quite a bit disappointed that there was no additional content to this remaster. The Hyrule Encyclopedia states that the devs were originally planning a 'Second quest' for Zelda and Impa, but had to cut it, only to include the cutscene in credits. I thought the Second Quest would feel perfect for the HD remaster but did not happen. I can't stop comparing this remaster to the Xenoblade Chronicles DE and Super Mario 3D World, since both of the remasters had 5+ hrs of all-new contents included. I don't understand why the Zelda devs didn't bother to put that much effort into this remaster.

Aside from the Additional contents complaint,

    Pros:
    - Fabulous story and strong characters. Groose has one of the strongest character arches in any Zelda game.
    - Strong dungeon design. The Ancient Cistern is almost like a storybook and has its own story. Most of them requires you to understand the 3D layout and are not overly linear. The Sandship initially forces the player to the deepest part of the dungeon, while showing all the doors and branches that you can access later on. This is just a great dungeon design. I think SS is the second strongest game in terms of dungeon designs, next to MM.
    - Geographic design is great. Utilizing each of the provinces in a new way every time the player re-visits them. I really don't mind the tedtones. It's fascinating to see how the familiar maps change for the Silent realm sequences.
    - Addition of the button control was great, especially for some minigames that require precise controls. I played the HD version on motion because of muscle memories, but I thought buttons were great.
    - Halleluja, Phi's dialogues are gone. The game felt a lot speedier and more fluid than the original. Overall cut in diologues and tutorials were nice. I think this would be the biggest reason for the players to choose the HD over the original.

    Cons:
    - The hub world is really tedious, the worst in all Zelda games. They should've added a new quest to give the Loftwing some extra speed boost, just like how they did in WW HD. They should've added extra islands with more collectibles to give the players incentives for exploring. They didn't add anything. The Sky is a blatant ripoff of the Great Sea, but the Great Sea is actually fun and this is not.
    - The collectibles are the worst in the entire Zelda series. I hate the medal and pouch system and hoped the remaster fixed it. They didn't. They have 2 heart medals in place of 8 heart pieces. This game only has 24 heart pieces. OoT had 36. The game starts you off with 6 hearts instead of the usual 3. That's just lazy game design. You can get two of the same medals like the rupee medals, and this is because the devs did not want to develop new items. No permanent upgrade to the consumable items. Gratitude crystals are way too easy to gather and the quest itself is fairly short. I'm surprised that they fixed none of this. Someone should tell the devs that the collectibles in this game are downright terrible.
    - Some parts of the original game felt rushed and incomplete, like the empty caverns in Eldin province that serve no purpose, or the absence of any roles of the Eldin dragon. These have not been fixed in the rerelease.
    - The motion controls were okay, but they drift quite badly. They are a lot more responsive than the Wii counterpart but far less accurate. Not joycon drifts but gyro drifts. Any battle that required you to use the Skyward attack was quite painful, far more than the original.
    - The graphics were not as impressive as when I first played the first and haven't aged well. Very blocky. Soft, glittering aesthetics of the original release is not as prominent in the HD release.
    - Amiibo functionality is stupid. They should be criticized heavily on this. They should've let us scan all zelda amiibo and let us gain a ladybug or amber or something.
    - Why no warp??? They should've at least made warp from bird statue-to-bird statue within the same province possible. This is the only 3D Zelda with no warp system. If I land on a wrong bird statue, I need to fly back up and make a huge turn and see the cut scene again. That's annoying.

I enjoyed it, it's a good game. Took 30 hrs to 100% the HD version.
The complaints I have are all from the original game design. I do think Skyward Sword HD is a better game than Skyward Sword and the devs listened, but it feels like they missed some opportunities to fix the problems the original had. The original game had a lot of problems even excluding the motion control finesse.

Content-wise, this is one of the better Zelda titles - I think it is waaay better than BOTW, as it actually feels like a Zelda game rather than a Skyrim game with Zelda characters. I consider SS to likely be the last true 3D Zelda game, as BOTW simply did not have that Zelda charm. I also have doubts about BOTW 2 being the same way, but I will wait for it’s release to be the judge. Yes, this game is linear, but I think that is better IMO. The dungeons are extremely creative and fun, the combat is extremely fun, and this has the best soundtrack in the entire franchise. I also hear people whine about the price - for 60 dollars I consider it a good buy, considering the game will deliver at least 20 hours of gameplay to compete the game, more if you do side quests. At the moment I consider this to be the best Switch title to date, don’t listen to the haters, who likely didn’t even finish the game - pick this gem up! Expand

Skyward Sword HD should be commended for its attempt to improve on the original. Having a new control scheme and making a good deal of Fi’s advice optional make it a more palatable experience. However, the game still suffers from pacing issues that made the original feel too bloated as well as a disappointing deemphasis on exploration. This remaster could have realistically improved upon a lot, yet it would still fall short compared to the series’ strongest entries. There is still enough for those looking for a more traditional 3D Zelda experience on the Switch provided they keep their expectations in check.

Yes the picture is sharper, yes the game is smoother (60fps), yes there have been some improvements to make the adventure more enjoyable, but damn the gameplay has taken a hell of a beating in the back of the head. It was already painful in 2011, it is even more 10 years later, and it is not the tinkering in classic controls that will sublimate the gameplay of this Zelda : Skyward Sword HD.
