The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure stands comfortably alongside some of the greatest RPGs I’ve ever played and is an early Game of the Year contender. Fans of the genre definitely shouldn’t miss it.

Just like Trails from Zero, The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure on Nintendo Switch is the gold standard of how an older game should be brought to Nintendo Switch. The improvements and upgrades over the PS4 version are massive, and PH3 took things a step further to even add options we'd usually see only in a PC release. The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero to Azure is an essential duology for every RPG fan on Nintendo Switch.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure is a fantastic RPG, and is something I’d easily recommend checking out. Just keep in mind that this is very much a sequel to Trails from Zero, and I’d strongly suggest giving that first entry in the series a go before tackling this one, even if I think you can kind of pick up on core gameplay elements and story beats after a few hours of commitment. Provided you’re willing to spend the time to check out both titles, I think you’ll be pretty happy with the overall result.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Azure takes everything that’s excellent about Zero and runs a marathon with it. It’s one of the best-paced games in the series, with some of the best characters, best music, and easily the best setting. The Crossbell Arc is a hugely compelling two-parter that captures everything that makes the Trails series what it is perfectly, and Azure in particular deftly balances high-stakes drama, political intrigue, and poignant character moments. This is one Switch RPG we won't be feeling blue about anytime soon.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure is a great turn-based JRPG that holds up exceptionally well against its modern competitors. The story and combat system are equally deep, allowing the game’s bigger moments to carry players through a fair amount of combat repetition and prolonged narrative dumps.

An essential sequel for those who played Trails from Zero. The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure is charming despite the fact that it shows the passage of time in terms of graphics. Something that you won't notice once you dive back into the fantastic world and plot of this dilogy, accompanied by a combat that still feels stimulating.

A somewhat fair version of the second part of a mythical JRPG. Its greatest virtue is that we can finally play it in our territory, but it would need more work to not feel so out of time.

Trails to Azure is the 2nd and last game in the Crossbell duology and makes this part of the Trails series to the best it ever was. TheTrails to Azure is the 2nd and last game in the Crossbell duology and makes this part of the Trails series to the best it ever was. The Crossbell series delivers an amazing story, both political and supernatural, while having some of the most memorable and interesting characters. The SSS around Lloyd Bannings becomes like a 2nd family to you and each of the members feels like a friend.

Trails to Azures story starts shortly after the end of Zeros, picks up many of the story lines, while further crafting the world of Zemuria. The story, characters and world building are by far the strongest part of the game, while being some of the best in RPG history.

The gameplay mostly stays the same, the only major update is the addition of master quartz and new duo special crafts, that your team members can perform. The enhanced edition we get here also provides speed up options, which can be very useful for grinding or going through basic monster encounters.

The only downsides of the game are that it has – as almost all Trails games – a very slow start. It takes its time to explain the world, let the characters live their daily lives, which can be a problem for many players. Furthermore, some of the side quests are rather hidden and can be easily missed. There is also a final bonding event with each character of the SSS, but in a regular playthrough you can only see one of these – but all of them give huge character development, hence it is a bad decision that important story bits/character information cant be seen unless you reload the save/do multiple playthroughs

Widely recognized as the peak of Trails series, and I couldn't agree more despite it not being my personal favorite (that would be Sky: SC)Widely recognized as the peak of Trails series, and I couldn't agree more despite it not being my personal favorite (that would be Sky: SC) because the writing is top-notch and the music is freaking DOPE.

Now, do you need to play the games before it (Sky Trilogy, Trails from Zero) to get the most out of it? Preferably, yes. But you should play those games anyway because those are also phenomenal games in their own right.
