Mar 7, 2023The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure stands comfortably alongside some of the greatest RPGs I’ve ever played and is an early Game of the Year contender. Fans of the genre definitely shouldn’t miss it.

Mar 13, 2023Just like Trails from Zero, The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure on Nintendo Switch is the gold standard of how an older game should be brought to Nintendo Switch. The improvements and upgrades over the PS4 version are massive, and PH3 took things a step further to even add options we'd usually see only in a PC release. The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero to Azure is an essential duology for every RPG fan on Nintendo Switch.

Apr 12, 2023The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure is a fantastic RPG, and is something I’d easily recommend checking out. Just keep in mind that this is very much a sequel to Trails from Zero, and I’d strongly suggest giving that first entry in the series a go before tackling this one, even if I think you can kind of pick up on core gameplay elements and story beats after a few hours of commitment. Provided you’re willing to spend the time to check out both titles, I think you’ll be pretty happy with the overall result.

May 8, 2023Trails To Azure, alongside Trails from Zero, are two of the best turn based RPGs that I ever played and thanks to its great narrative and characters, both titles create an adventure that it’s truly unforgettable. Both titles are a slow burn, carefully constructing its narrative and the payoff makes it truly worthwhile.

Mar 22, 2023The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure finishes filling in a critical gap in the series, and it does so with style. This twelve-year old game has been given a little extra spit polish in the transition to Switch, helping a great game shine its brightest. Taken together with Trails from Zero, this is one of the strongest RPG experiences you can get on the Nintendo Switch and is arguably still the high point of the Trails series today.

Mar 7, 2023The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure is an incredibly strong RPG with phenomenal pacing, characters, and combat, but it also relies so much on the player’s connection to the previous game. I can’t in good conscience say anyone should play Trails to Azure without first playing Trails From Zero, but that’s exactly what makes the experience so special. The duology of Zero and Azure revels in sequential storytelling, building a convincing world filled to the brim with personality and political intrigue.

Mar 7, 2023It might be tempting to skip Trails to Azure, but even set apart from the exceedingly large franchise it’s still another great RPG for the Switch. I’m looking forward to possibly replaying it with more knowledge of the events and try to take on more of the side content, since I had to take a hard critical path to get the review done. If I don’t decide to fill in some of those Trails story gaps this spring….

Mar 7, 2023The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Azure takes everything that’s excellent about Zero and runs a marathon with it. It’s one of the best-paced games in the series, with some of the best characters, best music, and easily the best setting. The Crossbell Arc is a hugely compelling two-parter that captures everything that makes the Trails series what it is perfectly, and Azure in particular deftly balances high-stakes drama, political intrigue, and poignant character moments. This is one Switch RPG we won't be feeling blue about anytime soon.

Mar 23, 2023The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure is a great turn-based JRPG that holds up exceptionally well against its modern competitors. The story and combat system are equally deep, allowing the game’s bigger moments to carry players through a fair amount of combat repetition and prolonged narrative dumps.
-
Mar 7, 2023An essential sequel for those who played Trails from Zero. The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure is charming despite the fact that it shows the passage of time in terms of graphics. Something that you won't notice once you dive back into the fantastic world and plot of this dilogy, accompanied by a combat that still feels stimulating.

Apr 24, 2023With writing this outstanding and characters this endearing, Zero fans get a satisfying conclusion to the Crossbell saga minus the sense of déjà vu.
-
Mar 7, 2023This is a JRPG that I didn’t think we’d ever see released worldwide about 10 years ago, and now it’s here. It’s a joy to play. As long as you’ve been keeping up with the series over the last decade, it will likely delight you as well.

Apr 3, 2023The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure is nothing short of an epic RPG story. It’s not as good an onboarding point for the greater series as its predecessor Trails From Zero was, but that cost just means bigger ambition with the narrative beats and world explored. It’s worth noting it’s not as polished as it should be, showing its age with the lower visual fidelity and framerate dips. However, the priority with NIS America is clearly just getting the game out there. Frankly, what a game it is. Crossbell is as magical as ever and it was a heartfelt joy to experience the second and closing story for the SSS team. You’re not getting many experiences as special as this one. I love and will miss you, Crossbell.

Mar 10, 2023The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure has a lot going for it, but even more holding it back. The story and characters are mostly fantastic, but the game does so much to get in the way of enjoying it both through dialogue and gameplay it becomes hard to recommend to those not already invested in the world.
-
Mar 7, 2023A somewhat fair version of the second part of a mythical JRPG. Its greatest virtue is that we can finally play it in our territory, but it would need more work to not feel so out of time.
