With agonizing decisions in an unforgiving Viking-inspired setting, The Banner Saga mixes strategic gameplay with choices that truly matter. At $19.99, it’s easily one of the best tactical titles on the Nintendo Switch.

The negatives aren't that big of a negative for me, however, I do love role-playing games where you actually control your character and can move freely around the map. This game is one of the best tactics rpgs I have played in my life. I would recommend this game to anyone who wants to try it out whether you get it for Switch or not.

The Banner Saga finds a perfect home on the Switch, much like in its iPad counterpart. It's already a very good strategic but it finds its best expression in portability.

The Banner Saga comes to Nintendo Switch via a fantastic and faithful port, its dire tale of survival and strategy completely intact. It plays well, it looks fantastic, and every battle and dialogue choice is here for the taking.

Overall, this has a few slowdown issues but the ability to play with both touch and button controls in addition to being able to play it anywhere makes this the definitive version of the game for me.

The Banner Saga is a highly worthwhile addition to any Switch library. It is incredibly well suited to the portability of the console. Combat is addictive, at times brutal (There are 3 difficulty levels for people struggling or masochists) but always highly playable. Couple this with a well told story with proper choices that can reward and punish you in equal measure and you have a game that is completely absorbing and hard to put down. I eagerly anticipate the following two volumes.

The tale that this first chapter in The Banner Saga weaves will have you gripped from start to finish. The player is left to exist in a world that has been meticulously crafted, whether that be the breathtaking art direction, the riveting efforts at world-building or the gameplay mechanics that underpin the experience. It is the difficult decisions that you must make that let it become more meaningful, even if some of your actions will ultimately lead to heartbreaking consequences.

The Banner Saga’s narrative does a Fellowship of the Ring, introducing you to this world and leaving you just as things are developing. Still, there’s good value in the title, with around ten hours of play time required to reach the end, possibly more if you opt-in for more fights throughout.

Repetitive battles are The Banner Saga’s biggest issue, but they don’t stop the enjoyment from what is otherwise a fantastic experience. Strategy and fantasy enthusiasts should find a lot to enjoy here. Roll on part two!

This is a beautifully crafted game that uses its intriguing cast, gripping tale and absolutely stunning artwork and soundtrack to transport you to a world filled with plenty of danger and surprises. The turn-based strategic battles might not be equally as thrilling to everyone who plays this, and the interface in this part of the game can be a bit clunky at times, but this doesn’t detract too much from the collective offering.

A cool story with lots of narrative choices and decent tactical battles.

The Banner Saga is an excellent game, driven by a wonderful score and a moving story. It’s a perfect fit for the Switch too, and the port itself is handled well.

Yes, combat wise, The Banner Saga does nothing new, but it does the basics very well, and the difficulty is well-judged for the most part. Clunky and poorly-explained HUD aside, this is a worthy addition to most Switch libraries, and fans don't have long to wait until The Banner Saga 3 is also released.

The Banner Saga is short but that does not stand on its way from being a fine tactical game with a very challenging combat system and plot options which can lead to some very surprising outcomes. Its marvelous visual environment helps it stand out and the characters will prove quite challenging to manage, even if the narrative could be presented in a more interesting way.

Some of the most difficult decision-making in gaming, both tactically and morally, but occasional rough edges betray the game’s small budget and short development time.

This game absolutely blows it out of the park with their story telling and old disney style art direction. I would have given this game 10/10 if Banner Saga 3 was actually playable. Banner Saga 3 being literally abandoned(Game crash, save lost, bugged UI for the entierely of it's release still as I'm writing this) makes the repeatability of this game 0 as I can no longer play through the series using 1 save.
