    A fantastic refinement of the classic twin-stick shooter, Tesla vs Lovecraft is a lovingly made adventure that takes its perk system and gameplay seriously, even if the story thankfully doesn't.

    Tesla vs Lovecraft is a solid and fun twin-stick shooter. A wide variety of weapons, gadgets, and perks keep things fresh and interesting. Other than a lack of mission variety and no online co-op, this is a game that will keep me wreaking havoc on Lovecraft’s monsters for a while.

    Tesla vs Lovecraft is a competent top-down, twin-stick shooter and arguably the most polished title in the developer's catalogue. Taking the fun but limited template of Crimsonland and building an entertaining and visually striking, but familiar and repetitive experience. It's unlikely to get pulses racing in terms of original gameplay, however, the perks system, crazy weapons and relentless explosive action should spark enthusiasm among fans of the genre.

    Tesla vs Lovecraft is a surprising work that brings high-paced action and screens filled with enemy hordes, precise and simple controls, an immersive soundtrack and a solid four-player multiplayer mode. It may feel a bit repetitive on a short-term basis and have few online resources but Tesla vs Lovecraft has enough to be a very interesting experience in the catalog of the Nintendo Switch.

    The game itself doesn’t give much in the way of context of who Tesla and Lovecraft are, or even why a scientist would be fighting an author to begin with. Nonetheless, Tesla vs Lovecraft is a fun twin-stick shooter, made even better by being technically on-point and very clean to play.

    Tesla vs. Lovecraft is imbued with a frenetic, bold energy that I only wish its designers had committed to more strongly. While there is fun in the premise of knocking back waves of Lovecraftian horrors while teleporting around them and maximizing Tesla’s devices, none of these concepts ever truly hits the mark. The result is a distracting but ultimately mindless exercise in repetition, which fails to ever become truly interesting.

    I bought this game when it was on sale for $5 because I thought the title was a fun idea. Its one of the best twin-stick shooters I've played and I've spent more than 100 hours on it. Well worth the price!… Expand

Have been playing this for a year now, with ever increasing frequency, and that's a trend bound to continue for a good while yet. (Refuse to make any serious effort to finish the thing on account of I won't be able to bear the disappointment if T.A. Edison doesn't show up as the end boss.)… Expand

The levels are limited in size, so you can't just run away, and the difficulty curve is gently sloping. But if you're looking for a greater challenge, there is a kind of gauntlet mode, where creeps just spawn until you're dead.

    At first, you might assume the power ups are limited, but with each level beaten, you unlock new potential skills, and your experience level resets after completing each stage. You might find it a bit unfair if you're just trying to level up to a kind of god mode, but it gives the title a bit of extra flexibility.

    The graphics aren't really much to write home about, but the game never slows, there are virtually no load times, it's still pretty (decent lighting, too), and I think it captures the atmosphere it's reaching for. If you're a fan of Tesla OR Lovecraft, you might find this an enjoyable gaming experience.    … Expand

    Tesla vs Lovecraft has all the mindless monster bashing that you expect. However, it also comes with its own share of flaws. The game has very little content, stretched really thin to dilute the play time. To reach the "real" ending, expect to fight the same handful of monsters over and over again, and to go through the same maps three times at increasing difficulty.

    The lack of content can be forgiven, but the design flaws of Tesla vs Lovecraft are harder to swallow–especially if you consider that the developers are twin-stick shooter specialists. The game's difficulty swerves wildly, with frustrating peaks followed by walk-in-the-park levels. The role of luck is excessive, and the same level can be very easy or painfully hard, depending on which power-ups you get. There is even an upgradeable stat that makes it more likely that you'll get one of the good perks that make levels so much easier. The existence of that stat should ring an alarm bell–but it seems that this game is OK with being heavily RNG-based.

    The worst problem of the game, by far, is the poorly tuned upgrade system. Once you get to the third and last pass of levels, you find yourself short on "crystals", the in-game currency that you use for upgrades. You'd take forever to accumulate a decent amount of crystals through regular playing–and collecting crystals usually gets in the way of completing a level. Long story short, you probably need to farm crystals if you want to complete the game. I spent at least a couple of hours going through this pointless grind, playing the beginning of the same level again and again until I had my upgrades where I liked them, and then moving on to finish the game.

    Even with all its shortcomings, Tesla vs Lovecraft is a fun experience. It has all the action you expect from the genre, and the short levels make it moreish. Yes, there is luck involved–but maybe you'll be more lucky if you try this level again, for the 12th time! I don't regret playing this game, but I think that the developers should have spent more time tuning the mechanics and producing content, instead of paywalling more content behind a pointless DLC. I have high hopes for the next work from 10tons, but I also hope that they'll spend more time refining it before release.    … Expand
