I loved it. Great puzzle solving game. The characters too are great. Very excited to play the rest of the series

Nice relaxing game with original story. Not difficult and complicated. Minus part is logical story segments, character reactions.

Great way to play this game if, like me, you hadn't played it before. Graphics are a little bit enhanced for this port (character models and shadows) and get the job done, but backgrounds are ugly to look at while docked in the TV. In portable mode, the game looks way better and touch screen controls great.
Story and sound (even voice acting) stays top notch.
    The worst thing? it's price

I guess that’s was intentional to contrast the main character’s goodwill. But that doesn’t has anything to do with the quality of the game. Overall the game is pretty good! Expand

This game is really enjoyable and relaxing and I recommend it to anyone that's looking for something laid back with an interesting story and puzzle solving.

At times it may feel like you are just playing through a filler, which is probably my only complaint about the game. It also feels a bit unrewarding to finish the game because it feels like the story has barely started. I bought this game in a bundle with the second one so I could just jump into the second game immediately and it felt like a smooth continuation, but I can imagine it feeling unrewarding to finish the first game if you don't already have the second one.

It felt like being part of a real life experience. There were some annoying things about the game that dragged the game experience down though. For example, the constant walking back and forth through scenes, no map, no quick travel, no way to run faster, and the puzzles weren't very exciting. Overall, the plot/characters were compelling enough to make me want to keep playing. I felt connected to the characters and cared about them. Nice to feel an emotional connection to a character in a video game. Expand

Syberia on the Nintendo Switch runs great of course, it is a 15-year old game after all, even though I notice some minor sound hiccups. On the other hand I really did not enjoy the limited 4:3 aspect ratio especially on portable/handheld mode as the screen of the Nintendo Switch is already quite small and reading text like in subtitles or in-game documents was really difficult at times, apart from the fact that you cannot appreciate the environments/graphics as much. The "stretched" widescreen mode is simply ridiculous as the character models are distorted. This is the biggest downside for me about this port, they could really have offered more visual options like a "zoomed-in 16:9 ratio" that fills the screen nicely without distortions... Expand

You will find only essential and very simple interactions making the whole game feel empty. You will find yourself running in big, static, prerendered scenarios trying to solve trivial pretestuos puzzles only to fill the gap between the first part of the story and the last one, because all that is in between feels useless.
The voice acting and the music is not bad.

A well-written game in the old style of things. The story keeps alive the feeling of mystery that we used to have when we were kids, when it was possible to believe there may be a mysterious land full of adventure hidden somewhere deep in Siberia. In that way, it’s a great game. The writing carries it.

In that way, it’s a great game. The writing carries it.

But it’s a very old game, and it has not aged well. It was made for a large screen, and if you’re playing handheld (like my wife and I did), some objects on the ground are almost impossible to see, so at some points you’l have to use a walkthrough because you won’t know that you won’t know something. In addition, some dialogues and written pieces are painfully long. This was more common back in the day, but today, it sticks out.

All in all, we had a positive experience, but I don’t think I would recommend this game to anyone else. It takes too long to sift through the foibles of its age, and the competition with other similar games has grown too stiff.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I got this game because I like Point and Click Adventures and since I noticed on the internet that Syberia 1 is pretty good, I spared no expense and effort to play it. So I threw myself into the adventure and was rewarded with a moronic ending.

I just didn't enjoy the game and that was mainly because of the story and it got boring over time. Kate Walker an american lawyer, who is the protagonist of the game is looking for the heir Hans Voralberg, because a contract of sale has to be signed. Through the phone calls from her boss Mr. Marson, who is pushing her, the player realizes how important this contract is and gets a clear goal. To find Hans Voralberg as soon as possible and then back home to New York. However Kate Walker changes during the search for Hans Voralberg. Through further phone calls with her fiancé Dan (Ex-fiancé at the end of the game), her best friend Olivia and her mother, the player realizes more and more that she has packed the adventure, which is not bad in any way, but shouldn't forget that this is purely business. This is also noticed by the before mentioned persons and they are worried about Kate. During her adventure she is accompanied by the vending machine Oscar, who is in my opinion a huge troublemaker (nicely put) and personally just annoyed me about the whole game. On her journey Kate Walker meets some bizarre persons with whom she has boring dialogues. Where I couldn't stop laughing was the part with the border guard who thought a dead branch was an enemy (facepalm). From then on I thought that the game would get even worse from there...
But I don't want to mention anything about the game, because there is nothing more to mention about the story. But now I'll come to the point that I was most displeased about the game. It's the end. What were the developers thinking. Towards the end Hans Voralberg appears out of nowhere and the annoying purchase contract is finally signed. Also, the game mentions that Hans is illiterate but will give a signature. This is very logical. Hans Voralberg is talking something about an adventure at the end and Kate calls her boss and tells him that the contract is finally signed. Kate is rewarded with a new job and is supposed to come to New York as soon as possible and hand it in. However, at the last moment, when Kate Walker is about to board the plane, she decides to throw her whole life away without being aware of the consequences. You don't really get to know the reason. Like a madman gone wild, she runs to the train to accompany Hans Voralberg and continues her journey with him. What a great ending. So much effort for nothing...
No human being would make such an idiotic decision.

The gameplay was okay and the puzzles reasonably fair. The music was good but this one annoyed me after a while. It played very well on the switch and therefore the port was successful. I would recommend it only to those, who like puzzles in Point and Click Adventures but otherwise the story is disappointing and therefore this game is not a real recommendation.

Respect to all, who had fun with this game.

Syberia is the first in a trilogy of puzzle / adventure games. It delivers a Victorian charm backed up with great music and images with a simplistic puzzle-solving approach. Though I'd like to recommend it, the price of the game means that you’re better off looking on other platforms.

Syberia is a game that is perfect for the winter. It has a nice, roughly, 10 hour story and is not a high action title that makes you have to have quick reflexes to win. There are no guns, fights or scary scenes, just a good adventure with some engrossing puzzles. For me, it was best played in handheld mode on the Switch, not that it was bad in any way when docked, but it just felt better as a mobile game. I am interested in seeing where Kate goes next, which makes this great, as both the sequels are also already on Switch as well.

Microids has done an excellent job of porting the classic point-and-click adventure to Switch. Kate Walker's epic first adventure in Syberia is every bit as gripping today as it was 15 years ago when originally on PC, and it fits perfectly on Nintendo's system, boding well for the impending releases of Syberia II and Syberia 3. Hopefully this is the first of many point-and-click adventures brought across to Nintendo Switch.
