What it does very well is mixing up the level variations, you have levels where you have infinite jumps, where you float in the air like a sine wave, control like the asteroid spaceship, full fledged shmup levels and more. Each level is short and there are over 200 of them. Each level has an optional coin that increases the challenge and unlock a very hard bonus world if you collect 90% of them. All in all, there are very few negatives to mention in terms of the core gameplay. The controls and movement feel perfect. Stage progression is fair and fun, and the visuals are vibrant. Performance docked and handheld never skipped a beat. Super Mega Zero really is a package that continues to impress the further you dig into it. If you’re looking for something challenging and bite sized, this is a super fit on the Switch.

Honestly, the only negative I could level at Super Mega Zero is that it may be too difficult for some gamers. Otherwise, it’s nearly a perfect experience. If you’re a fan of puzzle platformers and enjoy the retro aesthetic, you absolutely need to pick this game up. Even with all the math present, this is a game I truly adore.

Super Mega Zero is a tight precision and puzzle platformer with shoot 'em up elements. Simply touch an upgrade and switch forms to go from classic, straight-forward platforming to the more puzzle-like action number system or Shoot' Em Up gameplay.
