Bowser's Fury, on the other hand, is a brand new open world mini adventure which can be played seperately. It's really nothing special, there are some repetitive missions and sometimes the framerate is all over the place but it's still solid for what it is. Bowser's Fury took me 5hrs to complete while I was done with 3D World after around 12hrs. I don't think 60 bucks is an appropriate price for an 8 year old, 17hr long game but that's not the game's fault, it's just Nintendo's price policy.
All in all, it's a short, but fun experience. There are definitely better 3D Mario games out there but Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is still one of the better Switch games. I'd give 8.5 if I could.

Super Mario 3D World, originally released in 2013 for Wii U, is still excellent, though the motion controls that have replaced the original's touch controls when playing on TV can get a bit awkward.

The Bowser's Fury side-story is generally great too, though Fury Bowser's interrupting of the gameplay tires fairly quickly.

I thoroughly played the Wii U version so I'm coming at this as someone that double dipped. The 3D World port is pretty underwhelming but Bowser's Fury was far better and meatier than I expected, so I rate this collection pretty highly. Especially if you haven't played 3D World, this is a 10/10 must-play for Mario fans.

    ---3D World---
If you're unfamiliar, Mario 3D Land and 3D World are a mashup of 2D Mario's more linear levels and challenging platforming with 3D Mario's mechanics. Basically, Crash Bandicoot but Mario. 3D World is the sequel to 3D Land and was entirely built around 4-player co-op. It works great solo but is also a blast in multiplayer. I recommend 2 player if you have a friend that's dedicated to go through it with you. Personally, the game is a ton of fun but not a must-play. 3D Land was a great experiment and perfect for a portable but I and many other Mario fans view these games as a step backward from 64, Sunshine, Galaxy, and Odyssey. The coop is its saving grace.

With regard to the Switch port, they basically just upped the run speed. Many were hoping they'd add some new characters like Yoshi, Daisy, or Wario but that's not here. Similarly, this would have been a great opportunity to port the 3D Land levels into this engine but that didn't happen either, probably relegating 3D Land to the 3DS forever... So I'd say this port is pretty bare-bones.

    ---Bowser's Fury---
The other half is a brand-new campaign, seemingly targeting people like me that prefer Odyssey/64 over the "3D" games. It uses 3D World's mechanics and powerups verbatim but it's a massive open world you explore and collect Cat-Shines (basically stars/moons from the other games). The map has a dozen large islands that serve as levels, with several shines each, but there's also shines scattered in between for a total of 100. This is the most open-ended Mario ever made and that absolutely elevates the game. It all works fantastically and is a great proof of concept for an open world Mario that will hopefully come in the future. My biggest gripe is that I just wanted more, though I understand it's just a side-campgain. I'd gladly pay full price for this game if it just had 3 more similar maps. It also feels like so many of the mechanics and enemies get almost no use. Often, a new mechanic from 3D World is introduced for a 60 second shine and is never seen from again.

While the structure is great, there are many good small touches too. Bowser Jr is your sidekick now and he can help you fight and platform. A 2nd player can take control of him, and while it's still pretty mindless, it is much much better than the coop in Galaxy and Odyssey, kind of like Tails in Sonic. Like Odyssey, lives are gone and Fury actually handles this much better. When you get 100 coins, the game gives you a powerup, which is a great incentive to collect coins. You can find all the powerups from 3D World (fire flower, cat suit, tanooki, etc.) and you can horde up to 5 of each. While I miss Cappy, this was a great way to incorporate the old-school powerups, while getting rid of lives. Each death is 1 less powerup, which kept me on my toes, even if the game wasn't that hard.

Lastly, is Fury Bowser. Every few minutes, a giant bowser will show up to harass you for a while as you explore the world. He'll go away if you find a shine (which are everywhere), if you fight him, or if you wait long enough. I've seen some people criticize this but I thought it did a great job of mixing things up. I wouldn't want this mechanic to be prevalent for an entire full Mario game but I like the idea of levels organically changing condition as you play. The only downside is that there are several shines you can only get when Bowser shows up. These are all lame, as you just have Bowser roast some bricks, and you'll have to wait around for Bowser to show up if these are the only shines you have left. I thought for sure the game would let you summon Bowser after you beat the story at 50/100 shines but this wasn't present. Similarly, I think a hard mode where Bowser is always present could have been awesome but that's also not present.

    ---Conclusion---
Lastly, I will say I wish Nintendo had allowed people to buy Bowser's Fury separately for 20 dollars or so. I routinely feel screwed over for being one of the few people that bought a Wii U. That said, and regardless of some easy additions Nintendo could have made to 3D World and Bowser's Fury, this is still a very strong package for Switch. Most Switch ports have added 1 character and charged 60 dollars but Nintendo gave us an awesome new campaign that will last you 3-8 hours, and I'm already replaying it because it's so good. I know I'll play 3D World coop in the long run but I really bought this for Bowser's Fury and somehow wasn't disappointed. I've been aching for Odyssey 2 or DLC and this definitely scratched the itch.

It's an exceptionally polished title that's fun from start to finish, and is even more enjoyable in co-op; up to three other players can join in at any time, and although this leads to a more chaotic experience, it was my preferred method of playing. The scoring system and the fact that you can pick up your comrades and throw them off the stage adds a slight competitive side to an otherwise co-operative adventure. My playthrough with my brother involved a lot of laughs and energy - this game is just perfect for co-op play.

There's a lot of content on this side of the package too, as it includes a great postgame that ramps up the difficulty somewhat, culminating in a final world that contains the most challenging levels in the game. I really enjoyed the challenge presented by the last couple of levels, as beating them was such a tense, rewarding time.

Bowser's Fury, the brand new appendage to 3D World, showcases more Nintendo creativity but in a very different format. The levels in this entry inhabit the same space which gradually unfolds as you progress. Really, it's an open-world, and although it's fairly small, it does have some nice verticality to it. Mario feels right at home here, and it's great to see the IP's signature brand of creativity extended to the structure of the game in addition to the level design.

Bowser's Fury is a pretty short game, but it leaves a lasting impression. During its runtime it establishes a concrete identity defined by its imagination, charm and its titular villain whose arrival is accompanied by awesome rock music, an outpouring of rain and the darkening of the sky. The fights against Bowser use the open-world to establish a grand sense of scale, and they're a highlight of the game for me. You can see the credits after just a few hours, but it's worth finding all of the 100 Cat Shines and seeing all the game has to offer.

One little nitpick I could levy against the game is that the Switch seems to struggle a bit with Bowser's Fury, running at 720p/60fps docked and 720p/30fps handheld. Neither are ideal, but it's not too bad. I played in docked and the game still looks good, albeit noticeably less crisp than 3D World. Another thing to note is that the 2 player mode is quite weak in this side of the game - the 2nd player controls Bowser Jr. and doesn't get much to do. The co-op play is closer to that found in Super Mario Odyssey than in 3D World.

All in all, I loved Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. It's a fantastic package full of great content, and not a bit of it fails to deliver the fun.

But, what I love is how the game lulls you into fun and easy levels, only to get progressively harder, and even damn near frustrating on the unlockable worlds. It has something for everyone. Bowser’s Fury is more open world like Odyssey, and it’s just tons of fun. I wish it was just a bit longer, but I had a blast anyways. It’s good, it’s fun, it’s sometimes stressful; just get it! Bowser's Fury is the real crown jewel here, though. It takes all the mechanics from 3D World and puts them into a HUGE open sandbox level. It certainly doesn't overstay its welcome, but the amount of ideas it manages to cram into a short 4-8 hour experience is absolutely staggering. THIS is why Mario is still standing as the king of 3D platformers after everybody else has faded away. And fighting Giga Bowser as a Giant Super Saiyan Cat Mario is just pure, silly awesomeness. The only problematic thing about BF can be the framerate, which REALLY dips down when there's rain and fire going on during the Bowser sections (c'mon Nintendo, don't be stingy, give us that Switch Pro already!).

So yeah, there you have it. Two great games in one package. If you have never played 3D World before, this is definitely worth your money. If you have played it on Wii U, only you can decide if a slightly better version of that game and a short, but amazing new experience are worth the price to you.

Playing by yourself is a good time but you'll want to play multi-player to get the full experience. I haven't tried the online multi-player so I don't know how much lag there is. A game worthy of your time for sure, but it pales in comparison to the legendary 3d marios such as Mario Galaxy or Mario Odyssey. 7/10
    Bowsers Fury
This is what the future of mario should look like. The graphics are stunning at times (unless you're playing on handheld), the level design is fresh and intuitive, the controls feel like butter, and its more of an platforming collectathon. It feels like a mix of super Mario 64 and Mario 3d world itself, with a more open world feel. The only complaints I have would be the length(game is too short) and the fact that bowser can be a bit repetive showing up all the time. We NEED a full length version of this. 9/10
I rated the game collectively as a 9/10 because of the experience Bowsers Fury provides and the fun time 3d world is when you've beaten Bowsers Fury and want more content. A definite must have for the switch that I was not expecting it to be.

I had forgotten just how much love and thought went into that game as Nintendo clearly wanted to make something new and fantastic, and it definitely earns it's spot as the 4th 'main' 3D Mario game. As if that wasn't enough, an entire new game is added on in Bowser's Fury which feels like a hybrid of 3D World and Odyssey. You explore a beautiful lake, where everything including the enemies and environments are themed like cats, collecting shines and constantly fighting off Bowser when he wakes up angry all in a 3D sandbox environment. One of my favorite elements of this is when you're attempting a challenge, Bowser can wake up and begin attacking you, adding in a new rush and sense of danger. The reuse of assets was perfectly done as you feel almost like you're playing a sequel to 3D World, because it captures that same feeling yet at the same time gives you something entirely new.

With this fun new additional game added to an already existing great one, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury definitely becomes a perfect package with dozens of hours you can sink into it to have the time of your life, especially if you have a Player 2.

The best 3D Mario ever? It could very well have been, had it not been for the very odd decision of including a white Tanooki suit on every level (after looding 5 lives), making it literally impossible to die - except from falls. What a shame that this has not been removed from the Switch version.

The Toad treasure levels also serve to break up the platforming levels and honestly I liked them. Simple, but fun.
3D world is pretty short, don't expect a huge game. You can probably finish both 3D world and Bowser's Fury in about 10-15 hours if you aren't going for 100%. Maybe 20-25 if you 100% 3D world, Bowser's Fury is very short.

Similar to 3D world, Bowser's Fury uses the same mechanics in an "open world" setting. It's fun, and the short challenges are well integrated into the world - You can just keep going, as opposed to the level/challenge based structure of 3D world. I enjoyed Bowser's Fury. Nothing surprising, but quality and consistent gameplay are there.

It should go without saying, it's a Nintendo game and as such is highly polished. You won't run it crashes or game breaking bugs. Bowser's Fury does suffer a bit in the framerate and performance categories - especially later - But not enough to take away, and it's over by then anyways. Solid content, great fun in multiplayer as well. Stock Mario game, which means solid, well-designed, creative levels and a known quantity. Worth it if you missed it the first time around. Skip it if you played it on the WiiU.

Though Bowser's Fury clocks in at about a six hours, this should serve as framework for Nintendo's inevitable next entry in the Mario franchise as it works well within the context of this universe. While the game definitely respects it's players time, it's shorter length and smaller scope may disappoint those who played 2017's Odyssey; especially as a majority of Switch owners never played it. Those who do pick it up, regardless of predisposition, will undoubtedly approve of their investment even after the credits roll.

Mario teams up with bowser jr to collect cat shines to defeat a very angry bowser. There are 100 of these shines to collect. The only reason I’m not giving this game a 10 is because some of the shines are very repetitive and tedious to do (blast the fury blocks, lost kittens etc). This doesn’t weigh the game down that much though because the gameplay is superb. Controls are the same as 3d world but still work well with bowsers fury open world levels. Graphics are awesome especially when switching from day to night.
This two game collection has magnificent adventures to go on as Mario and is a must have for the Nintendo switch (experience is amplified if you haven’t played 3d world before).

The base game is really fun and creative, Bowser's Fury is one of the best platform experiences in last years and it is exciting to see what Nintendo could do going forward. I feel the levels a bit short, they introduce a good and fun mechanic but then doesn't expand on that. The specials worlds definetly are the best part of the game when it becomes quite tricky and you have to try a few times.

When people think 3D Mario, they think about Mario 64 or Mario Sunshine, but this is more like Mario Galaxy except MUCH more linear. Don't let that discourage you though. At the cost of the freedom you had in 64 and Sunshine, you get to experience amazingly creative level design. While it's not the best or most memorable Mario game, it has a charm to it that can't be matched.

Bowser's Fury review: I know it's early but I'm calling it: Bowser's Fury is the goty. It's been almost 4 years since Odyssey came out and we still have no word on Odyssey 2, if that's even in the works, but to fill in the time Nintendo gave us this smaller game. And when I say small, I mean this game can be beaten in 2-3 hours. Yes it is short but it's part of another game that already takes a bit of time so it's not that surprising. For what it is, this game is a masterpiece. If you were waiting for Odyssey dlc to come out here you go; this is it. The soundtrack is some of the best Mario music I've heard since Galaxy; it's that good. It almost feels like a waste to talk about the level design, because it's 3D Mario. It's pretty much a well known fact at this point that it's almost flawless. While the boss fights with Fury Bowser aren't super challenging (except for the final final boss when you've collected 100 catshines), they are still really fun and engaging, and considering the fact that Godzilla vs Kong is releasing soon, this could be a good way to get hyped for it. I hope Nintendo takes heavy influence from Bowser's Fury for their next 3D Mario game, because if they do, it might be the best 3D Mario game ever created.

An excellent remake of a very enjoyable Wii U game with a shorter but all-new wild adventure thrown in, what’s not to like about Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. With plenty of platforming, group adventuring, high-pace boss battles and hours of post-game challenges, you may find it hard to stop playing.
The character’s movements are smooth, and you can really sense your in-game surroundings and atmosphere thanks to the sound and graphics of both games.
The fact that each character in 3D world has their own strengths opens up new possibilities for different players. There is the high jumping Luigi, the fast Toad, the floaty Peach and the balanced Mario. Plus, a surprise character unlocked after completing the main story. You can try each of these characters solo or grab up to 3 friends as you travel across the many worlds and conquer each level as a group to save the Sprixies (the princess of this kingdom and her followers), from Mario’s archenemy, Bowser. However, 4 players get a little chaotic, especially when players rush ahead of the rest of the group and force them off the screen, so the game can be improved in that area. But on the bright side working as a team can be used to great effect against a variety of challenges in the game.
Meanwhile, Bowser’s Fury is a shorter but whole different story, one where Bower Jr. and his greatest enemy, Mario, must team up to undo whatever has happened to his dad. You can play solo as Mario and chose how much you want Bowser Jr. to help by taking out enemies, grabbing coins and finding hidden items, or a second player can take control of Jr. Although, when playing as Jr he does not have as many abilities as some would like. There is much to do as you run, jump and climb your way across the platforming level-like islands and riding on your aquatic friend Plessie between them. But watch out, because the huge black guy will wake up and rain fireballs and huge spikes down on your parade, totally changing the pace of the game. But while you can run from Bowser you can also use the Giga Bell at several points in the game to grow to a size where you can jump over mountains and confront him on equal terms.
Both games also feature several new power-ups, like the a-meow-zing Super Bell and the duplicating Double Cherry as well as old favourites of the Mario series the Fire Flower, Super Leaf, Boomerang Flower, Mega Mushroom and Super Star. You are also given the ability to store power-ups by collecting them while already powered up so you can use them later in certain situations which is useful.
Control of the characters is easy and smooth, except maybe with a Double Cherry, but that is just because you are trying to control two characters at once. As you explore each level of 3D world you are given a satisfying feeling while going through the mix of open and linear areas. The variety provided by each level makes each one a unique experience with different atmospheres. Not only that, but each level comes with hidden collectables such as green stars and stamps for who want to achieve more after completing the main story. There are several bonus levels too, so there is much to do after the game. Bowser’s Fury is also satisfying but instead takes place in an open world filled with islands to explore, which is a good shift from levels being points on a map. It is a fun mix-up of different atmospheres including platforming fun on the islands, free-roaming and interacting with whatever you came across like in Super Mario Odyssey levels, speeding around the ocean on Plessie, and high pace chaos whenever Bowser pops out of the ocean to light up his fireworks show.
3D World was originally a game for the Wii U which has now been updated with a more vibrant look and faster character movement. Also, the captain toad levels, which used to only be one player, can now be enjoyed by all four players and features which used the Wii U gamepad’s touch screen can now be done by moving any controller. 3D world and Bowser’s Fury both combine elements of Mario’s other 3D games such as Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy to bring about a similar experience but with smaller areas to create a slower easier pace. Many old enemies have also returned alongside old power-ups, like the mushroom-headed Goombas, shell-wearing Koopa Troopers, biting Piranha Plants, and more. Though there is a surprise you will notice about them when you play Bowser’s Fury.
Overall, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is a great quality bundle of non-stop new and old Mario-style fun. I would definitely recommend it for platformer type gamers, as both the games provide fun platforming challenges both during and after the main story, even though one is surprisingly short. I would also recommend it if you are looking for friendly game to be played with a group of friends or family, because although 4 players can be chaotic it is still an enjoyable group experience. I give this game a 9/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This entry is one of the best in the Mario series. I never got to own this game, because I’m not in possession of A WiiU, so I was excited when I saw it was coming to the Switch. The story for 3D world is very good, and mixes it up a little. You save these fairies instead of princess peach, and (spoiler alert) at the end of world 7, you think you have completed the game, and then bowser captures the fairies again and the real final boss fight is in world 8, which is a really cool world in the game, probably the best.
World 6 is also really fun and cool.
The game tries out some new gimmicks, such as the cat suit, the coolest power up in the game. And that’s coming from a dog person.
But 3D world isn’t the only game in this bundle, of course. Bowsers fury is super fun. You go around collecting cat shines to awaken the giga cat bells so you can defeat bowser. They are really good power ups. The game is a little short, but it’s super fun and replayable, as you can go on plessie the orange Dino, and defeat bowsers fury a bunch.
I have been playing these games for about a week or two now (i got this on launch day), and it’s really fun. It’s a must play in my book.

3D world is an amazing platform we which bridges the open world style of Nintendo’s 3D games as well as the traditional platformer, Bowser’s Fury is another experimental title which pulls off the similar concept in a different way, my only issue with the game itself is the complete lack of story and direction in the beginning. Bowser's Fury did something i thought would be impossible. Making a game focused on linear platforming and open-world platforming. And that's why i love it so much. I love the different ways that you can get the cat shines, and the game is generally very fun and interesting. The only cat shines I don't like in this game are the "Blast the Fury Blocks" cat shines, because for those you mostly have to wait for Fury Bowser to spawn and break the blocks, which is pretty boring. The only big flaw I can think of is that the game only runs on 30 fps and the lag can be really bad when Fury Bowser spawns. But other than that, i like almost everything about this game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. this is some of the best Wii U games ported. SO LETS GET IN THE GAME! The gameplay is exactly the same with a few differences, you can roll in the air, which helps you get more horizontal distance. And the dash is significantly faster, which helps for speedrunners and gamers alike. The online mode is not that bad. It's smoother than I expected. So lets get into the side game, Bowser's Fury. which is a new adventure. Just gets some cat shines (about 100 of them.) and if you reach a specific number of cat shines, you face off against Fury Bowser. and there is the 2-player mode. It is kinda fun playing with another person and just, so fun! If you own a Wii U this game is worth it if you are interested in Bowser's Fury. If you started on a NS I totally recommend the game. just beat the levels and cat shines. now the cons are:

Microphone levels are gone. Puffrod Peaks isn't the same. And thanks to the speed and air-roll, the game is way too easy. (Edit, yeah the Switch doesn't have the mic so fine)

But the game is some of the best Switch games out there!

Y la aparición continua de Bowser cada poco tiempo le da una vuelta de tuerca a la jugabilidad y a la dificultad aunque el problema es que si no le haces caso desaparece demasiado rápido. By far the biggest selling point of this game if you already have 3d world the only issue that i have and thats what bumps it down to a nine is the fact that 3d world is kinda short clocking in at about 6-10 hours and bowsers fury is only about 3 hours. I have never really enjoyed a mario game. (played every 3d installment and most of the 2d ones). But this is by far the most fun ive had with a mario game ever. Every level is different and throws new mechanics at you while always being super fun.

3D World is ok, but what really shines is Bowser's Fury, despite being short, its formula is surprisingly fun, for someone like me who is tired of the old formula of linear stages, one after another, its freedom and open-world-ish design makes the Mario franchise feels fresh and is a step in the right direction.

On the other hand I got Bowser's Fury, which exceed my expectations, it was something I would love for Nintendo to use as a stepping stone for creating the next thing in the franchise. It was nearly perfect, I loved looking for things and collecting it all (I played it near the release date, so right now I can't recall the name of the things there were to collect). Map was diverse and quite big for such a thing (not a full game). Gameplay was smooth and the usage of Bowser Junior was nice as well.

The stand alone is a bit short but it' s been announced as an add on/bonus so it's acceptable, though a bit easy here again. It brings new elements to the franchise and though the framerate does not still follow, it's a very nice 3D Mario to play.

Mario 3D World is the perfection of what Mario 3D Land started. It is one of the best - personally I would say the best Mario-game of all time. The short well designed levels always invite you to play. Bowsers Fury is also a good addition to this game and makes the short adventure a little longer. I can really recommend this game.

    SM3DW:
Decent platformer with a few glaring issues. The levels are generally good and fun but overall not well designed. The only real problems I had were the controls (which I got used to) and the lack of depth-perception.
Firstly, the controls feel very floaty and the levels were clearly not designed with so much pace in mind. They should've maybe not sped it up as much as they did.

The lack of depth-perception really made me mad a couple of times. I died to it often and needlessly. A 3D-platformer that fails at its only gimmick (other than being playable on WiiU) should maybe be overhauled thoroughly. It doesn't help that the camera-movement is as bare-bones as it can get.

It is also obvious that they had no idea how to utilize the Switch in terms of technical fidelity. Graphics still don't look as good as they could and there were moments where I thought, "are they not ashamed to present this to the world for $60?"

Other than that it is a decently fun game, especially recommended for kids who just want to have fun or are not very experienced with video-games. They'll probably adapt very quickly and be able to forgive the 3D-problems

    Bowser's Fury:
To me, definitely better than 3D World. It's fairly short, but the level design is very good and the 'puzzles' are decently creative. Reminded me a lot of SM Sunshine. It's also short enough to not become repetitive for me.

    ------------------

overall definitely a lazy package from Nintendo (no surprises there), that's never worth more than 40 bucks (except maybe for fanboys or very inexperienced players). It's incredibly short and even the newer Bowser's Fury had obvious technical issues.

Starting with 3D world base game, it was an absolute treat. I had much more fun then expected! The levels are well designed and the collectables are MOSTLY obtainable. Basically the game rewards you for exploring. The diversity of the levels create variety of gameplay which is always welcomed.
When exploring the hub world, there are bonus areas (such as timed challenges and Captain Toad levels) that made it exciting to progress. Occasionally you get bonus rooms to gain some extra lives or power-ups. Speaking of power-ups, although only 5 power-ups, they were diverse, displaying classic power-ups such as the fire flower and original power-ups such as the cat suit. The new power-ups I found to be the most unique throughout.
I like how you can choose your characters along with the ability to have multiplayer where as many as 4 players at the same time can cause chaos.
The only issues I had with the game were some collectables were cryptic to find and had on a rare occasion look them up as I wanted to play the final Captain Toad level. I also found about 10 levels had a high difficulty spike and can easily frustrate due to being unexpected. There was a level in World 4 that was more challenging then any level in World 5 (World 5 is my fav World). Despite the levels listed, there was quite a few levels that were too easy and lacked a serious challenge even in areas like World 6, hence the difficulty imbalance. There are special power-up to aid players if they get stuck and die several times.
Even with it's flaws I highly recommend for a seriously fun time, 86%
The addition to Bowers Fury was a smart choice. This seriously adds value to the Wii U port making it worthwhile. Think of it as a hybrid to Mario 64 and Mario 3d World. In summary, I loved Bower's Fury! Dare I say, more than Mario Odyssey. Reason being is each main collectable (shrine), had a task to complete to get it and were consistent in challenge and difficulty. There was one shrine I can curse and hate getting, it wasn't hard but super annoying and costs me many attempts. Otherwise my main complaint is, I wanted more and hope they expand on this concept. It took me about 10 hours to 100% Bowsers Fury and would encourage all to do try it out. 97%

I would've given it a 6 - I'm a completionist and I beat the games 100% no matter what it takes, and this took me the joy from the game - but oh boy, Bowser's Fury redeems it.

Bowser's Fury was a fantastic experience - the graphics are beautlful, gameplay is beautiful, 0 loading time and the challenge recipe for collecting the cat shines has proven to be just about perfect. A very well balanced and elegant game.

Mario 3D World + Bowser Fury is a remaster that we didn’t necessarily need. On the other hand, the 2013 game still works as well with an adjusted fluidity. As for Bowser Fury, it is a kind of first step to a completely open Mario. If Mario Odyssey would have been like that, I would have put 20/20 direct lol. But, this port is certainly not necessary is always welcome on switch.

After defeating Bowser, there are even more levels for the late game. But these are pretty hard, be prepared!

A great addition is Bowser's Fury. In this fully 3D World you navigate Mario and helping Bowser Junior to make Bowser normal again.
The map has really good vibes like in Super Mario Sunshine. The difficulty is easy to medium, so perfect for a nice break.

U Deluxe, which is one of the most underwhelming games I’ve ever played, let alone one of the most underwhelming Mario games. Regardless, I’m glad to see 3D world on the system. I never owned a Wii U, but many players and critics called it one of, if not the best game on the Wii U.
If I were to ever own a Wii U, I likely would’ve sprung for this game and/or Mario Kart 8. I played Super Mario 3D Land on my 3DS and adored nearly every second of it. It’s probably my favorite game on that system and I think it’s the best handheld Mario game. On the contrary, many took issue regarding 3D World(3D Land’s sequel), both when it was first revealed, and when it launched. As the first HD 3D Mario game, players expected Super Mario Galaxy 3, Sunshine 2, a direct sequel to 64, or maybe even an original title, but no. We got a sequel to a handheld game whose gimmick was designed around the glasses-free 3D feature, which the Wii U lacked. This reaction could have also been due to the oversaturation of Mario titles during the early 2010’s, although, it currently holds a score of 93% from critics and an 8.9 from players on Metacritic and is the second highest ranked Wii U title, only surpassed by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Like I mentioned previously, this title was on my radar in terms of most desired Wii U games, but I wasn’t gonna buy a Wii U at the end of the 2010’s just for this game(thank goodness I didn't). That brings me to an issue I have, not exactly with the game: the Wii U, in my opinion, is losing its identity. Most of the beloved titles that can work well on Switch have either received direct sequels or have been ported over. This is a good and bad thing. It gives great games a second chance on a successful console(Nintendo Switch), whereas they used to be stranded on an abandoned console(Wii U), which didn’t sell well. On the other hand, the Wii U has fewer and fewer great titles to call its own. The Switch has a plethora of Wii U ports, which are more often than not, the definitive version of the game due to all DLC/extra content being packaged in and/or simply higher frame rates and resolution. There truly is less and less of a reason to buy a Wii U in 2021 if you're simply looking to play its best games, but this isn’t a huge issue for me, since I and many others only own a Switch.
I want to get my one big issue out of the way first: the camera. This nearly ruined the game for me in some areas. Having a fixed camera for most of the game may work better for multiplayer, since you’ll have 2-4 players on screen at one time, but for single player, why can’t I have full control of the camera? It led to so many deaths that were the game’s fault and not my own. I mostly played on my own, and it was incredibly frustrating at times. At least there’s an infinite lives trick early on in the game.
Luckily, you can play online, with registered friends, but I wish your progress could have carried over to your own save file.
Even though these issues remain, I had a blast playing 3D World and Bowser’s Fury. It’s definitely not as good as Odyssey, 3D Land or Galaxy 1 and 2, but I enjoyed it much more than 64 and Sunshine(I know, sue me). This game looks surprisingly great, even for a Switch game. It’s not quite as beautiful as Odyssey, but it’s definitely one of the best looking first-party games. The lighting is beautiful, the art style is charming, and it runs at a solid 60 FPS, although Bowser’s Fury runs at 30 FPS in handheld mode.
If there’s one thing you’re getting with 3D World, maybe more than any other Mario game, it’s variety. Most levels feel unique, although some are more memorable than others. The worst levels are, at the very least, enjoyable. Music is also a highlight, much better than that in 3D Land. There are also gallons of replayability, especially if you want to collect every star and stamp.
Bowser’s Fury is likely the best add-on we’ve gotten with a Switch port so far. If you were expecting it to be an entirely new game, you might be disappointed, but it is the definition of quality over quantity. You can finish it in just a few hours and collecting every cat shine won’t take you too much longer, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it, maybe even a bit more than 3D World since I prefer the sandbox style of 3D Mario games. Being able to fully control the camera is also a godsend. Unfortunately, the 2-player mode in Bowser’s Fury is fairly weak. It’s more of a “backseat” experience, similar to a 2-Player mode in Super Mario Odyssey. Regardless, Bowser’s Fury gives us a taste of what an open-world Mario game could be like, since this is technically an open-world experience. I can’t wait to see what Nintendo makes next.
