Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles

Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles may not be the greatest game to bear the iconic license, but its uniquely chaotic arcade action deserved to make a comeback. There are better Star Wars games either already on Nintendo Switch or those we’re patiently hoping will receive similar remastered ports, but it’s hard to deny that there’s mindless fun to be found here that, despite its repetitive gameplay loop, proved a welcome distraction.

Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles is a blaster shot from the past, with fun beat-em-up action slightly let down by dodgy platforming.

For those who enjoyed the original release back around the turn of the millennium, Star Wars: Episode I - Jedi Power Battles is just about the safest remaster you could imagine. The instant level unlocks and expanded character roster are both nice touches, but Aspyr's limited improvements leave this feeling very of its time. If you can get past the sluggish combat, painful platforming, and performance 'quirks', then this is a fun trip down memory lane; if you can't, then prepare for a lesson in what games felt like a long time ago.

Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles is a remastered beat em’ up platformer about using power-ups and collecting points to bring down the Galactic Empire. While the new coat of paint may gloss it up a bit, the game is still coarse, rough, and irritating. Nostalgia and simple arcade fun may prompt quick bursts of amusement, but all in all, this is a Star Wars game from a long time ago that can easily be mauled for its confusing incompetence.

Whether you’ll enjoy Star Wars: Episode I: Jedi Power Battles depends purely on nostalgia, but for the modern day this game just doesn’t hold up.
