    This game is a huge steaming pile of garbage. The greedy developers copied and pasted the majority of the maps from the past Splatoons, and they had the audacity to charge $60 for reused content. The developers were too cheap and lazy to give us more new maps. Only 5 maps are new and the other 7 are reused from previous games. When I pay $60, I expect most of the maps to be new with topThis game is a huge steaming pile of garbage.     The gameplay is the exact same trash as Splatoon 2. The graphics are a joke and looks the same as Splatoon 2. It's almost as if the lazy developers got Splatoon 2 and slapped the number 3 on the cover. The physics are beyond horrible. This game is broken because I was stuck in a black screen. The campaign is awful with boring boss fights. The story is stupid and worthless. The missions are boring and repetitive. The soundtrack is terrible. The puzzles are laughable. These annoying creatures make too many cringeworthy noises, to the point where I almost wanted to slam my TV against the floor if I heard their voices again.

    The online multiplayer is complete garbage with all these connection issues and awful map designs. There isn't even any split screen. This is clearly the developer's pathetic attempt at making players buy more Switchs for local play. The inkling kid with the yellow "hair" has a cringeworthy face on the cover of this game. This made me remove the cover paper off the game case and rip it into pieces. I don't recommend this game at all, unless you want to support laziness.    … Expand

    Best Splatoon so far and a proof that a gaming company can release a FULL Complete package and not a work in progress like so many ‘shooter games’ released these days. It’s a multiplayer masterpiece, has an excellent single player story campaign, a cool Splatoon x Tetris sub-game and that Salmon Run mode is better than ever. 10/10.

    First time I though it was gonna be the same Splatoon formula, but then, they put a lot of love in this Splatoon game, with new modules in Multiplayer, and a great campaign with another different story and a upgrade system like the RPG games

    Its very similar to splatoon 2 but extra content in both multiplayer and salmon run and revamped single player mode (as well as a new card game). Highly recommend to the fans of splatoon 2

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Even though this game seems rather similar to the previous two installments, Splatoon 3 improves everything about the series. Pretty much every issue from Splatoon 1 and 2 have been fixed this time around. I was thrilled when they announced you could skip the opening map announcements! The story mode also feels considerably different. Mr. Grizz is a fresh final boss instead of using Octavio for the third time. The idols have the most interesting designs, especially Big Man, who's the best idol to me! My only negative point is that there weren't that many new weapons added. But considering that every previous weapon was brought back, it doesn't bother me too much. Overall, it's not Splatoon 2,5, it's another fresh banger from the Splatoon series!… Expand

    In my opinion, in terms of the online multiplayer everything is generally the same to Splatoon 2 except for some quality of like features like a prelobby. Over all it’s still a solid addition to the Splatoon franchise and worth the $60!

    An improvement over Splatoon 1 & 2 in every way. All the little annoyances I had with the first 2 games like not being on the same team when you play with friends, not being able to party up before matches and not being able to skip the idol intros. The netcode is also much better and I have had no connection errors since launch.

    I think the controls in this series get better and better with each entry. I personally never really experience any of the connection issues a lot of others have apparently. The single player mode is still a blast and I am still in love with the actual multiplayer mode as I was back on the WiiU. The only reason I am not ranking this higher is just that I think the game balance dropped, II think the controls in this series get better and better with each entry.     Splatoon 3 is a game where the only good is in the side content. The campaign, Salmon Run, and Table Turf are all good but the actual main game falls flat due to poor balancing, maps, and Nintendo Switch Online.

    Based on the amount of fun this game has in store for you, it's an easy 10. The only reason it's a 9 is because if you buy this game a year later, it will be even better and more innovative compared to the last two games. I personally do like this take, but I think they could have done a bit more before releas.

    An absolutely amazing game. Nearly all of the problems of the prior games have been addressed to some extent, and then some. The multiplayer is incredible, and the single player campaign has more than enough to justify being played offline.

    Splatoon first timer and loving it. The ink physics are so satisfying and the character movement is really slick and responsive. Such an original, quirky concept and just so fun to play. Obviously can’t compare to other Splatoon games but from what I gather it’s pretty unanimous that it’s the same but better. So why not play the best version?

    Fun game and I already noticed improvements from the 2nd game. I love the single player mode but i wish there were more weapon options for multiplayer. I really appreciate how you can create a lobby with your friends and then be able to queue for battle unlike in Splatoon 2.     The story mode is a really big evolution and features lots of improvements from Splatoon 2's DLC. I would even say the story mode could be a full price title it self. Whetever you like the characters, gameplay, lore, or    Splatoon 3 is a good fun game and also a great evolution for the Splatoon series.

The single player campaign "Return of the Mammalians" is a great introduction to Splatoon while also providing the challenge and lore for veteran players like me. The new single player campaign is more cinematic than anything we have ever seen from Splatoon before. AndSplatoon 3 improves on almost every aspect of it's predecessor and delivers the best title in a already wonderful series. The single player campaign "Return of the Mammalians" is a great introduction to Splatoon while also providing the challenge and lore for veteran players like me. The new single player campaign is more cinematic than anything we have ever seen from Splatoon before. And from start to finish it is a fun and enjoyable experience. But that is only the tip of the iceberg of what Splatoon 3 has to offer. Just like it's predecessors the online is the main draw to Splatoon 3. Returning to Splatoon 3 is Turf War and the ranked (now known as anarchy battles) Splat Zones, Tower Control, Rainmaker, and Clam Blitz. And all of these modes are very fun to play and always keep you engaged. But here's where my only issues with the game lies. No new online modes have been added to the game and I have personally experienced more communication issues than with any other Splatoon game before it. However this doesn't take away from how fun the game actually is. And there's even more to the game with the returning Salmon Run and the brand new Table Turf Battle. And there are also way more options to customize your inkling or octoling with brand new hairstyles and many more new clothing options. And also there are more ways to have fun on the battlefield with two new weapon types. So overall Splatoon 3 is a very fun experience which will only get better with time as it receives more and more free content updates.… Expand

    One of the best multiplayer games of 2022, it has a 3 month battlepass, the arenas look great, the outfits are awesome, the story mode is one of the best and hardest of the series. Splatoon 3 is indeed an addictive and fun game in which you always have something to do. Good for kids and adults too.

    Great game with loads of content that builds from the 2nd game! The lobbys are improved and there is so many quality of life changes too. This game has a great campaign like the octo expansion and the weapons and specials are well balanced!

If you are a more seasoned veteran of the game, it may be easier for you, but the secret level to 100% the story mode ends up being good for anyone that gets to that point, especially for honing in on movement and combat skills. TheSplatoon 3 does a great job on expanding on the 2nd game. The story mode offers tons of levels that get quite challenging by the end of the story campaign. If you are a more seasoned veteran of the game, it may be easier for you, but the secret level to 100% the story mode ends up being good for anyone that gets to that point, especially for honing in on movement and combat skills. The story itself provides interesting context into the world of Splatoon through the collection of collectables. I'd love to see something that dives into a fuller, more aggressive story. However, I don't play Splatoon for the story.

    The combat is as good as ever. I've always loved that this is a faster paced game (regular matches being 3 minutes each). You can definitely carry a team to victory with good flanks and great aim, but this is more fun as a team game where everyone is working their weapons/abilities together to hold down map control.

    It can be confusing to get an idea of all the different ability layers at first, but as you learn what each ability does, you'll have a better idea on how to further build out your character. Various powerups via the in game Food/Drink shop can help you boost XP, cash, or a chance at certain item abilities, and the Murch character in game can help you with adding new abilities, or removing abilities.

    The in game addition of a lobby to queue up with friends and practice your aim while you wait for a match is a fantastic move. More of a quality of life addition than anything, but I think it was well done.

    Ranked gameplay (as far as the setup of it) is well done with the "series" mode. Even if you are losing games initially, you will still get rank points for how well you are playing in each game, which potentially allows you to rank up and play with more team based players. Even so, I love the strategy of the various ranked modes. The Rainmaker one is perhaps the most confusing, and I wish that one could make more sense to me.

    My biggest complaint would be less related to the game itself, and moreso on Nintendo servers disconnecting during games, when I have no issues with any other games that I play. It's more rampant than it should be, though I have to say that it "appears" better than other Nintendo online games that I've played (looking at you Smash!). This is something that I think Nintendo should prioritize for the future of their online games, as it can be frustrating for players to get disconnected during matches, especially in a ranked match.

    I hope this provides more context into whether you may want to purchase this game. It can be a learning curve to understand certain aspects to it, but the gameplay is fast and fun.

    Shoutout to the music as well, some of the best energetic music in a game. I always feel hyped up when the "1 minute" music starts playing each match.    … Expand

    I was one of the victims of rage inducing competitive games such as LoL and Overwatch. Splatoon has never made me feel anything other than joy.
    This is the best Splatoon you can play until Splatoon 4 came out.
    *Petition to mute all reviewers until they beat After Alterna. Play with gyro like they intended instead of complaining about how much you lost in rank in your reviews.

That being said, this is still a high quality game that isn't much like any other shooter out there. Loved the previous entries, and this one is the best yet. But part of me wanted something more, something revolutionary out of this.     Its really sad that my favorite shooter had god awful internet connectivity. Nintendo really needs to step away from peer to peer and use servers for everything, especially so everyone doesn't disconnect in the last 30 seconds and have all that hard work go to trash. I can't believe I'm considering taking a break from this game just cause the online sucks so much that its practically unplayable.

    You are paying full game price for a DLC to Splatoon 2. If this wasn't Nintendo the user score would be like a 1. Yes, Splatoon is fun but paying full price for what could have been an update is crazy. This will be the last Splatoon game I own. Nintendo is just getting greedy now. I have been playing since the Wii U and my disappointment is immeasurable.

After playing Splatoon 3 for some time, I can say that while this initial assessment was mostly correct, the game does have more to offer than I might have expected.

    The core gameplay feels just about identical to 2, which is a bit disappointing, but then again too much change could've compromised the series' identity. I found myself getting tired pretty early on of the online battle stages, as not enough has changed from 2, or even 1, for it too feel all that new; this gameplay style is starting to get a little bit stale.

    Fortunately, some of the extra modes are much more compelling, and made my purchase of this title feel justified. The single-player campaign is quite the improvement from previous versions, clearly some inspiration has been taken from 2's DLC Octo Expansion. It feels more substantial, and makes some interesting story choices. There is a lack of bosses, and it might've been nice to have more new enemy types.

    Apart from that, there's a new customizable locker, a card game, a more expansive hub area, and the ability to skip the intro-video. One of the greatest improvements are those made to Salmon Run; I like being able to play it whenever I want, and I enjoy the new bosses and enemies.

    I'm not a big fan of the new three team Splatfest format, it seems to be pretty poorly balanced, and the tri-battles seem like an under-baked idea which aren't well implemented.

    Splatoon 3 is the most fully featured entry so far, but it does feel like it could've done much more to differentiate itself from it's predecessor, especially when it's being released on the same system.    … Expand

    Yes, there may not be TOO much new content, but the content that is currently available is worthy of at least a 9. Also, Nintendo likes to do these updates that add a ton of stuff to the game, so the current version is around 10% of what the game will be in a few years

    80 hours + first time playing a Splatoon game. The fun is real. The rage is real. No complaints overall.. story is acceptable. Salmon Run is cool. Multiplayer is fun. A lot to enjoy with this Nintendo title.

    This game is so much better than the previous one, so many QoL fixes and other changes that make it worth buying. They're going to update the game for 2 years and dlc, so there will be always something to look forward too. Despite some minor bugs and server problems I love how fun and addicting this game is.

Another issue is the servers are significantly worse, as connection errors are extremely common. Neither of these were particular issues in Splatoon 2, so it seems that Nintendo really cut corners on this one trying to get this product out quickly so it has more shelf life before the next console.

    Another huge issue is the decision to make the maps as flat and small as possible. For a game that steers hard towards a competitive base, map design is just sort of out the window here. There often is no way to flank the enemy, or if you can, it's extremely risky and easily punishable. This leads to one of two situations; your team or the enemy team spawn camps the entire game, or it's a stalemate in the center the entire time with only the last 45-60 seconds making a significant difference.

    The singleplayer while not living up to Octo Expansion, is a great addition as well and works off of its success. This makes me actually look forward to the paid DLC they announced, as they seem to be consistent with level design on the singleplayer side.

    Salmon Run is an upgrade and some ways, however some of the maps feel like a downgrade. As someone who primarily plays Salmon Run this continues to be extremely enjoyable, although the giant salmonid boss you have to fight is very frustrating. Solo lobby queuing is another nightmare on its own.

    Splatoon 3 fails at a lot that Splatoon 2 soared with, which is disappointing to see and I hope Nintendo takes a lot of this sort of criticism spread through the internet to heart and make better outings to the franchise next time. Any fan of Splatoon 2 should check this out as well. Anyone looking to get into Splatoon should go play the 2nd game instead.    … Expand

    For me it has the best shooting game (?) experience with a controller. The combat design is no like others and extremely friendly to people like me who have little experience play fps or tps with controller.

    However there might not be enough content to keep players to stay for a long time. Updates are only few new maps and splatfests that is not as fun as I once imaged.

    My Shooter for 2022. This game is a great pick up for a fun and carefree gameplay. Quick games with great weapon and map variety. The single player is a good way to improve skills with a lite story mixed in. I have been playing since the Wii U and Splatoon 1. See you at the next Splatfest!

All of the broken specials are relegated to subpar weapons now, and all good weapons gave meh to useless specials. The maps are also way better, if homoginized a bit.     It is impossible to ignore the breadth of quality-of-life changes they've made to the game. Listing them all would take too much time, but a few important ones are the new matchmaking freedoms (being able to actually do something while looking for a game), and many more.

    Love how the ranking system works in this game. It is not based on the team, but in the players individually. Even if u lose, you still rank up if you are good at the game.

    This game is absolutely the best splatoon game. It has the most modes and the best versions of them. It has the best single player campaign. The online is also the best in this game. The new additions to game play are great however my one big problem is that there are no new online modes. However this did allow us to avoid getting a terrible new mode. Also they should have just removed clam blitz

    The only thing the games sucks is optimization and internet. Other than that, it's such a great game. If those issues are gone, it'll be 9/10. The only thing that misses is the apocalyptic world isn't as greatly executed.

    It's still a mix of platformer and shooter, but some missions are focused on combat, figuring out ways to advance, surviving in a diabolical arena, painting giant statues, sneaking around, finding keys, and even using your weird sidekick to activate and deactivate various mechanisms. More fluid, more dynamic, with a more balanced gameplay and a very welcome enlarged one-player dimension, Splatoon 3 is all that could be expected from the third chapter in the series, where the improvements fit neatly with the Splatoon legacy.
