    An improvement over Splatoon 1 & 2 in every way. All the little annoyances I had with the first 2 games like not being on the same team when you play with friends, not being able to party up before matches and not being able to skip the idol intros. The netcode is also much better and I have had no connection errors since launch.

    Best Splatoon so far and a proof that a gaming company can release a FULL Complete package and not a work in progress like so many ‘shooter games’ released these days. It’s a multiplayer masterpiece, has an excellent single player story campaign, a cool Splatoon x Tetris sub-game and that Salmon Run mode is better than ever. 10/10.

    An incredibly fun and still unique project, the formula of which no one has been able to copy, therefore, not very big changes for the triquel do not even feel like a minus for me personally.

    this is the best splatoon game by a wide marjin. any user reviews stating it's too similar to splatoon 2 are untrue and completely invalid. and anyone saying they have connection issues, get better internet.

    One of the best multiplayer games of 2022, it has a 3 month battlepass, the arenas look great, the outfits are awesome, the story mode is one of the best and hardest of the series. Splatoon 3 is indeed an addictive and fun game in which you always have something to do. Good for kids and adults too.

    Love how the ranking system works in this game. It is not based on the team, but in the players individually. Even if u lose, you still rank up if you are good at the game.

    Easily the best game i have ever played, its a shame the multiplayer is paid but its still a great experience. if u experience internet issues, its not the game's fault, its most likely yours, since most of the problems i had during drizzle season seem to be fixed

    An absolutely amazing game. Nearly all of the problems of the prior games have been addressed to some extent, and then some. The multiplayer is incredible, and the single player campaign has more than enough to justify being played offline.

    3 fixed every issues in 2. Playing splatoon is just pure fun. The ultrastamp seems to be nerfed though, my old strategy which usually wipes the opposite team doesn’t work any more.

    Great game with loads of content that builds from the 2nd game! The lobbys are improved and there is so many quality of life changes too. This game has a great campaign like the octo expansion and the weapons and specials are well balanced!

    First time I though it was gonna be the same Splatoon formula, but then, they put a lot of love in this Splatoon game, with new modules in Multiplayer, and a great campaign with another different story and a upgrade system like the RPG games

    Splatoon first timer and loving it. The ink physics are so satisfying and the character movement is really slick and responsive. Such an original, quirky concept and just so fun to play. Obviously can’t compare to other Splatoon games but from what I gather it’s pretty unanimous that it’s the same but better. So why not play the best version?

To all the people who are giving bad reviews, your right. Splatoon 3 didn’t totally reinvent the franchise, but name one sequel that does, I’m waiting. The story mode is just 100x better with an actual story that’s interesting, and finally reveals all of the game’s lore, with fighting the ending boss in space on a rocket ship! You can’t tell me that’s not cool. Multiplayer has significant changes as well, with new movement options, specials, weapons, replay system, matchmaking system, ranking system, UI and much more. Splatoon 3 overall is just a fantastic, addictive game and is a straight up perfect sequel to Splatoon 2. And i’m sure that Splatoon 4 will reinvent the series, just you wait.… Expand

    I was one of the victims of rage inducing competitive games such as LoL and Overwatch. Splatoon has never made me feel anything other than joy.
    This is the best Splatoon you can play until Splatoon 4 came out.
    *Petition to mute all reviewers until they beat After Alterna. Play with gyro like they intended instead of complaining about how much you lost in rank in your reviews.

    80 hours + first time playing a Splatoon game. The fun is real. The rage is real. No complaints overall.. story is acceptable. Salmon Run is cool. Multiplayer is fun. A lot to enjoy with this Nintendo title.

    I think most people will agree with me Splatoon 3 is a game worth playing. It’s unique, fun gameplay is appropriate for younger users yet still has action - not to mention the great graphics, fun background story, captivating gameplay and vast world to explore! New weapons, gear and the Salmon Run mode creates the successor of Splatoon 2.

    definitely my favourite ip of nintendo’s, seeing the franchise grow and improve from the first game has been amazing. this game has something for everyone, with several game modes including both pvp and pve. the only downside is the connectivity issues and frequent disconnects, but n’s online service isn’t that great with most games

The balance feels fair. Splatoon is the most fun pvp game I've ever played. Because I like a battle of strategy more than a match of "Grinding" with an opponent.     Most fun in video games i've had for many years. People complain about many disconnects, but to me it doesn't happen very often. It cancels a game in the beginning of the match if a player was lost, which I think is fair. After all it's only 4v4 and players wont connect mid match (the matches are three minutes)

All of the broken specials are relegated to subpar weapons now, and all good weapons gave meh to useless specials. The maps are also way better, if homoginized a bit. The result is a much more polished and less gimmicky splatoon.     Love Nintendo approach to games and love how they made combat design for this game. I didn't play the previous two games, but this gave me lots of fun. There are some issues with UX, but the game has a powerful core.

The servers are... bad. The servers are acceptable now, but at launch, they were not. The meta is leagues better than splatoons 1 and 2, but that's not much of an accomplishment.     The one actual major issue I have is stages. There are 12, which is a good launch number... but 2 are very very bad. 2 are very underwhelming, and 2 are just ok. That leaves us with 6 good stages, which is not a good number for a shooter game. Let's just hope the post-launch stage reworks make the stages good.
    The Improvements made over splatoon 2 are massive, but sadly it took the series 3 entries to catch up to other shooters in terms of content. Still love this game to death though, and when it gets good stages it will become a 10/10 game    … Expand

After playing Splatoon 3 for some time, I can say that while this initial assessment was mostly correct, the game does have more to offer than I might have expected.

After playing Splatoon 3 for some time, I can say that while this initial assessment was mostly correct, the game does have more to offer than I might have expected.

    The core gameplay feels just about identical to 2, which is a bit disappointing, but then again too much change could've compromised the series' identity. I found myself getting tired pretty early on of the online battle stages, as not enough has changed from 2, or even 1, for it too feel all that new; this gameplay style is starting to get a little bit stale.

    Fortunately, some of the extra modes are much more compelling, and made my purchase of this title feel justified. The single-player campaign is quite the improvement from previous versions, clearly some inspiration has been taken from 2's DLC Octo Expansion. It feels more substantial, and makes some interesting story choices. There is a lack of bosses, and it might've been nice to have more new enemy types.

    Apart from that, there's a new customizable locker, a card game, a more expansive hub area, and the ability to skip the intro-video. One of the greatest improvements are those made to Salmon Run; I like being able to play it whenever I want, and I enjoy the new bosses and enemies.

    I'm not a big fan of the new three team Splatfest format, it seems to be pretty poorly balanced, and the tri-battles seem like an under-baked idea which aren't well implemented.

    Splatoon 3 is the most fully featured entry so far, but it does feel like it could've done much more to differentiate itself from it's predecessor, especially when it's being released on the same system.    … Expand

This is a result of a series of small, but significant changes across the board, from new movement options in squid roll / squid surge, throwing eggs in Salmon Run, lockers, customisable nametags, being able to do things in the lobby between matches, the list goes on.

    The main thing that holds this back from a 10 is the netcode which is just unacceptable. Not only are disconnects very common (which almost instantly ruins the experience for everyone involved) but the online tick rate is still only 16Hz, lower than the original's from 2015, which leads to a lot of inherent lag. No-one would accept a game playing at 16 fps, so only updating the packets being sent 16 times a second is not good enough. This is even more problematic given the gameplay is much faster now.

    All in all, it's easy to overlook the netcode issues when the gameplay is so fun. Even one year on, the game continues with substantial updates and unique events to keep the game feeling fresh. I just hope that in the future, Nintendo can somehow improve the netcode of this game or a future Splatoon instalment.    … Expand

    It is impossible to ignore the breadth of quality-of-life changes they've made to the game. Listing them all would take too much time, but a few important ones are the new matchmaking freedoms (being able to actually do something while looking for a game), and many more.
    Buy and large, it's more Splatoon. It's better than 2, by far, and that's all there is to it. It's most definitely on-par with the first.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off, the single player campaign is really fun. I finished all levels in all areas but did not 100% all collectables. The overall story is very engaging and makes you want to finish the game. I also like the exploration in the hub world and the variety of stages present. It overall resembles octo expansion from splatoon 2 but with a way better hub world. Final boss/sequence is not as fun tho.

    Secondly, the multiplayer. The game just feels better in every single way compared to its predecessors. the new lobby system is awesome and all the additional customization is great. Due to heavy server load, i got a lot of communication errors but i expect those to get resolved as time goes on.

    Last but not least, salmon run. The mode has evolved with many new bosses and new maps as well as new special waves, including the boss salmonid wave. Salmon run feels very fresh with the new weapons and bosses added as well as the new Xtrawave which spices up gameplay drastically.

    Overall, this game is a true sequel that is sure to give you a lot of fun for many hours.    … Expand

    This game is absolutely the best splatoon game. It has the most modes and the best versions of them. It has the best single player campaign. The online is also the best in this game. The new additions to game play are great however my one big problem is that there are no new online modes. However this did allow us to avoid getting a terrible new mode. Also they should have just removed clam blitz

That being said, this is still a high quality game that isn't much like any other shooter out there. Loved the previous entries, and this one is the best yet. But part of me wanted something more, something revolutionary out of this.     Based on the amount of fun this game has in store for you, it's an easy 10. The only reason it's a 9 is because if you buy this game a year later, it will be even better and more innovative compared to the last two games. I personally do like this take, but I think they could have done a bit more before releas.

    Splatoon 3 is by far the best in the series, despite it's inconsistent and downright awful online service. Still, Nintendo released a live-service shooter in the year 2022 with no microtransactions. Packed with more meaningful content than any new COD release has achieved in recent years.

    Everything I wanted it to be. I'm looking forward to years of splatfests! To be a 10 it would need to have added something totally unexpected but instead is really solid upgrade on an awesome series.

    It’s so close. Amazing story mode, well balanced, and it is a great concept. But the connection errors are pathetic. It has gotten better with the update but the servers still need a lot of work.

Pretty much every issue from Splatoon 1 and 2 have been fixed this time around. I was thrilled when they announced you could skip the opening map announcements! The story mode also feels considerably different. Mr. Grizz is a fresh final boss instead of using Octavio for the third time. The idols have the most interesting designs, especially Big Man, who's the best idol to me! My only negative point is that there weren't that many new weapons added. But considering that every previous weapon was brought back, it doesn't bother me too much. Overall, it's not Splatoon 2,5, it's another fresh banger from the Splatoon series!… Expand

    Definitely the best Splatoon game, this had me theorizing like crazy, which made me more excited for the confirmed DLC.
    The only thing I didn't like is that you have to walk to play Tableturf Battles. Winning in Tableturf gives you nothing all you do is go against CPUs with no tutorial, I genuinely didn't know how to play it.

    It's still a mix of platformer and shooter, but some missions are focused on combat, figuring out ways to advance, surviving in a diabolical arena, painting giant statues, sneaking around, finding keys, and even using your weird sidekick to activate and deactivate various mechanisms. More fluid, more dynamic, with a more balanced gameplay and a very welcome enlarged one-player dimension, Splatoon 3 is all that could be expected from the third chapter in the series, where the improvements fit neatly with the Splatoon legacy.
