    Positive:

The online is better than the Wii U's.
The new Salmon Run mode is most likely the best.
The new dualie weapons are a nice addition.
    Negatives:

Salmon Run is only available at certain times.
    The single-player campaign is short.
The final boss is a step down from the first game, and it is easier.

Overall, though, I still think this is a 10/10 game and deserves the best Switch game spot.

it's very cute, Colorful and has an amazing theme/atmosphere.

the music is also very cute and nice :3

also seeing other's drawing and cards while walking in the town area makes the game have a cool feeling and all. it's like this game has a personality, and I love it so much!

the graphics are really good imo, the Devs have done a wonderful job!

the gameplay is also very fun, so are the mechanics! there's a lot of special and unique things about this game that makes it not just another boring shooter! Like you realistically can't move where you haven't painted or inked! stuff like this makes it very fun,

however, as much as I love this game it has a few very annoying quirks >.< but I hope they fix it, this is why I give the game an 8 instead of 10-9!

    1. You can't skip the intro and it's so annoying, I mean being forced to see it each time there's a new change or anything would be ok, but if you open the game, see the intro then close it you have to watch the news all over again about the map rotations!

    2. Maps change over time and they're not chosen over time randomly like other games, it makes it a little weird. I prefer random maps TBH!

    3. You can't leave the lobby once you're in! if it even takes like 5m you have to stay, although you could maybe turn your wi-fi off or something to make it kick you, but it's really dumb, It doesn't happen often but it early morning etc, it takes a long time to find a match and you're stuck there waiting, for some reason the 170s timer that kicks you if no players are found keeps just reseting too. and you can't do anything interesting while waiting other than playing with the music

    4. I originally complained about the match making but after playing a few more matches and reaching lvl 15-20 The MM started being a lot better!

    5. Lack of dedicated servers! I get a lot of disconnects. and the need for a Perfect internet connection is annoying, I can't play it anywhere but in my room cause my Mobile data's NAT Type is D. and the Switch's Wi-fi antenna is garbage! I really wish I could play this game when I'm outside like rocket league! and dedicated servers would just make everything a lot better! and not make people worry about their internet connection constantly!

One of the best games on the system, great style, gameplay and it is an all around gem.
Some problems i encountered was trying to play with friends, in turf war you cant decide to play with or against some of your friends and the lobby is always the same, which can be annoying since the players you encounter are always the same. You cannot play ranked with friends and the league battles

The salmon run mode is excellent. It would be great if another mode like this one was added.
The singleplayer mode is fun but nothing special, a little short but fun.
The weapons and customization are amazing, the arsenal is huge and so is the clothing collection. Furthermore, there are addictions to the game every week or so, which makes, to me one of the best games on the switch.
I think it is a must have game for the switch even for people wanting to play this alone or just casually.

Splatoon 2 is a great game but with bad matchmaking. I have to go against level 80s and I'm just level 30. Say its just a level but it means experience, you don't just die over and over and get to level 80. It's hard to have fun in a game where you have to keep losing and losing over high competitive play. Everything else is good though.

Consistent weekly updates proves just how much lover and care was put into this brilliant game. The single player is a clever Mario galaxy inspired tutorial that prepares the player for the epic and awesome online. That may sound like a bad thing, but the levels and bosses are all extremely fun and well designed, and will supply you with hours of enjoyment. Those willing to stick around and complete every level with a certain weapon will be rewarded with a unique hero weapon to take into the world online and show off. Speaking of online, this is a masterpiece when it comes to online play. The basic turf war never fails to entertain, and is always fun to play and also allows for quick pick up and go play. More experienced players can then play ranked modes, which consist of amazingly tactical gameplay, from escorting a weapon to the enemies base, riding a moving tower, controlling a certain area with your ink and playing american football with clams. Not your thing, try the addictive Salmon run, the horde mode of Splatoon. Take on the zombie like beings in epic survival maps and earn unique rewards. The only downgrade is the lack of two player due to the Wii U pad being absent. Putting this aside, this is a brilliant game and is one of the best games of 2017. This is a must own for any Switch player, and is a perfectly good reason to buy a Switch. 9/10 Expand

I really loved how fresh (ha ha ha) and different the game was, and I thought Nintendo's admittedly risky approach was extremely successful. So, when I heard Nintendo was making a sequel, I was...kind of confused. Sure, I really loved the first game, and I knew I would play this game, but I was shocked that Nintendo was making a sequel so soon (it's only been 2 years since the first one). On top of that, Nintendo is very rarely the one to settle for a sequel that's so similar to the first one, and that's what "Splatoon 2" was looking like. Even so, having played the game, I can say that Nintendo has succeeded once again.
As expected, "Splatoon 2" looks and plays great. Visually, it's absolutely gorgeous, and the game runs smoothly, as it should on a new and more powerful system. The game also remains just as fun as ever, the campaign's levels are still varied and exciting, the multiplayer is still fun and frantic, and the new modes and small changes are nice enough that the game does stand well next to the first one.
That said, my one small, minor criticism, and the reason I can't really comfortably give the game a perfect 10 is that, as I said before, the game is VERY similar to the first, so much so that this could've easily been a "Splatoon Deluxe" instead of a full-blown sequel. Oh, and while I'm glad Nintendo added voice chat this time around...why is it so cumbersome?
All that said, "Splatoon 2" is still a great game and a worthy buy if you're a Switch owner. I'm sure I'll still get plenty of longevity out of this game thanks to the Switch's portability.

Just finished playing through the campaign sometimes it was a bit of a grind but largely it was quite engaging. Broken up into 32 bit sized chunks you can chip away as and when to feel like it. The boss design is for me the strongest part of single player. It's no secret that the multi-player is where this game really shines

Splatoon 2's single player is a great improvement over the original allowing you to play with all base weapons adding lots of replay value the levels are even more creative than last time. Splatoon 2 in total has 8 modes Turf war the core of the game with it's objective being to cover the ground in ink in 3 mins time , Rainmaker take the giant goldfish weapon to the enemies spawn, Tower control ride the tower by standing on it and taking it to the enemies spawn , Splat zones hold a specific area for 100 seconds, Clam blitz get a super clam to destroy the enemies clam basket by filling it with clams , Salmon Run a NEW mode where you team up with 3 other people (or friends) and survive 3 waves of salmon , League is ranked with friends (Includes Clam blitz, Rainmaker,Tower and zones. The app is mediocre I wouldn't use voice chat on it. The game also provides local multiplayer but each player needs their own switch to do so a bit disappointing . Splatoon 2 is a must have for the switch.
The game features a vers good and diverse multi-player with tons of weapons and a wide variaty of gear to customize.
The different modes give you enough replay value and make for a wonderful experience.
The control takes some getting used to but with a pro controller works really well.
I would definitely recommend this to every switch owner !!

The new game mode Salmon Run rounds out the game adding a PvE mode with a wonderfuly grimmy aesthetic that offsets the vibrant nature of the PvP modes. This mode tasks with collecting eggs from boss salmons while using a random weapon with teamwork as a strong key component. The best comparison I can think of is Salmon Run reminds me a lot of Left 4 Dead.

At the Sahoal players can team up with local friends to play any of the PvP or PvE modes without an internet connection. This is a great feature since it means even when the servers go down you can still play all the modes with friends.

If you are interested in shooters but want something unique you can't go wrong with Splatoon 2. Though the matches are short it is easy to get caught up playing just one more over and over.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'd like to state that I've been trying to love the splatoon series since it's inception on the Wii U. However, Splatoon 2 Isnt the fix the game has desperately needed. Splatoon 2 in short is just a large add-on to the original splatoon 2. The singleplayer story and gameplay are not far different from the original. The game's main focus is online multiplayer but for one reason or another nintendo decided to keep the same poor-net code that plagued the last installment by choosing web-style hosting rather than dedicated servers and further lowering the games tick-rate. This has led to one thing I noticed about splatoon that always stays consistent, its how inconsistent the game feels. Theres no consistent hit detection, the games net-code favors weapons that instant kill than those with lower DPS such as the ink guns. So while playing you see that you hit a player enough to kill them yet due to the delay in the netcoding you are far more likely to die first if they are using weapons such as the sloshers, brushes, etc. This makes the gun type weapons less desirable in online matches because of they sheer reaction time you would need to even be able to compete. This leads me onto the motion controls. Ive had massive problems with the motion controls with the switch version compared to the last. Simply because none of the aim movements feel consistent, in my case using the pro controller which makes aiming a complete and utter chore. I hope in the next installment of this series nintendo puts on their big boy pants and actually do the framework of a competitive shooter rather than trying to make it look like one. Expand

However, I couldn't help but lament over the barriers that the game systematically provides. Restricted Salmon Run times, incompetent local co-op and friend options, and the ideology of unlocking an "enhanced" experience through a mobile app. I'm disappointed in the fact that Nintendo also has only included 10 stages in this game when the original Splatoon had 16. This was a hastened sequel and I'm hoping there are updates following forth to at least have 20 stages. I'll update my review instantly to an 8 otherwise. If they also fix the online issues and other trivial problems, 9.

In other words, I recommend this game, even though my review is seemingly mixed. For me, the stage diversity is arguably more important in a game like Splatoon where the fundamentals are to ink as much turf as possible, and on different stages, there are different strategies that must be plotted with each weapon. I also believe an online multiplayer game doesn't deserve higher than an 8 it if can't fundamentally understand online functionality.

*review updated to a 9. As of 16th Dec, there are 17 stages, but I expect more since Nintendo is still updating the game.

All of the modes are back in this game, which is awesome considering they were great modes. The already fantastic single-player campaign has been improved upon and adds a lot of good new ideas. And the brand new Salmon Run mode is a fun co-op mode that is enjoyable whether you're playing with strangers or your friends. But not everything has been fixed. I still am bothered by the lack of a way to pick what mode you want to play, as I certainly like Tower Control and Rainmaker over Splat Zones, making it all the more disappointing when I find out that's the mode being played currently. Also, the fact that Salmon Run isn't available at all times is a very questionable decision. And since they actually decided to include it in this game, I have to mention the abysmal voice chat system. It didn't bother me that the first game lacked this, but Nintendo's attempt at it is pathetic. But none of these issues significantly hampered my playtime with Splatoon 2, as it was still an awesome experience, and definitely a worthwhile addition to anyone's Switch library. Expand

My original score on the game was a 4/10. After playing the game for a while I’m willing to bump up my score 2 points for not having mico-transactions, season passes, or charging for new maps. However, the matchmaking process is rubbish and I end up on a team that is either stomping on the opposition or being stomped. About 1/3 of the time there is a dropped player that dictates what side loses. It is less than satisfying to win a match only to see that the losing side had a zero point player. I’ve also been dropped from games with a “connection error”; when I start another match I’ve been greeted with a ban threat if I keep dropping. I haven’t rage quit this game yet. I have a stable internet connection (fiber optic) and I do not have connection issues with any other online game I’ve played on PS4 or PC. Considering the match making problems and dropped players I have to give the game a -1 point; the resulting delta then +1, so 5/10.

The game play was fun I really like the concept of a cartoon shooter that would be fun to play with my son. That being said there is no split-screen multiplayer mode. I could understand not supporting split-screen multiplayer for a game like Call of Duty but not a cartoon game that should share the same demographic as Mario Kart. With the exception of the very short campaign/tutorial the lion’s share of the game is online only; this becomes a problem when you find out Nintendo will be charging an annual fee for online play. On principal I’m not willing to pay full price for what is a yearly rental. Because the Switch doesn’t support voice chat it can be difficult to coordinate with your teem but that really didn’t hurt the game when I was playing it. I would have given this game a much higher score if it supported split-screen multiplayer and was either exempt from the online subscription fee or was a $40 game.

Amazing. It's colorful, fun, there's plenty to do, and perfect if you don't have much time to play video games. You can sit down, play a few games, and get back up. The mobility of the switch supports this a lot. The story is better than the first one, nicer graphics, and great for all ages. Definitely recommend you pick this up.

This is a $40 game at most. Expand

Splatoon 2 is a lot better than wii u entry and has a lot of to offer. I hoped for better single player campign, but it's cool tutorial. Multiplayer and customization is great, a lot of diffrent weapons means a lot of gameplay styles for diffrent players.

I own the game from the same week it was released, and it is one of the best online shooters I played. The game is really fun and gets updates every month but there are still some cons:
You can't skip Marina & Pearl when you start the game
A lot of communication errors (pretty common)
Salmon run is closed most of the time
2 maps which change every 2 hours

Splatoon 2 being the second game of the series included many new ideas, but it was ultimately a polished version of the original. The new weapons are great, but some sound good on paper but when they are executed, just really aren't that great. This is a great game, and I love it, but in my opinion it falls short of a 10 due to the lack of difference from the original and the sequel.

The single player left a lot to be desired. I personally only attempted the campaign for any potential unlockables (hoping for something like Splatoon 1) but ultimately got fed up with the level section process. On the last world, it felt almost impossible to find just the entrance to the level.

Characters are a major draw too. A new set of hosts join you in map change announcements as well as my personal favorite Splatfests that occur monthly.

Nintendo promises two years of continual support for this title leaving little room to doubt that you won't get your money's worth.

    - There is a wide range of weapons, sub weapons, and super abilities that all feel great to use in their own respects and all have their own unique functionality. It all comes down to preference.
    - Despite a ton of small issues, the game is a very fun take on the shooter genre. Covering the map in paint and surfing as a squid is very enjoyable.
    - Salmon Run adds some nice variety to multiplayer
    - The soundtrack is catchy

    Mixed:
    - Bosses could have been a little better but it’s nice that they’re in there at all
    - Tons of cosmetic items but the scrub system is tedious for gathering power-ups you want and players who put massive amounts of time towards it have huge advantages in multiplayer modes

    Bad:
    - Can’t switch your load outs in the middle of a match and you have to leave match making completely to do so
    - Veteran players have massive advantages over newcomers; match making pits low level players against high level players much to often
    - You lose your super charge when you are killed
    - Players can’t leave match making while searching for a game; waiting times can be very long and the timer resets every time a player enters the lobby or turns off their game
    - Voice chat…
    - Players can’t create parties with their friends; chances are you’ll often be fighting against friends rather than with them
    - The multiplayer map preview plays everytime you start up the game and is unskippable
    - Map rotations are dumb and the fact that you can’t play Salmon Run whenever you want is stupid

The single player campaign is longer, more difficult and deeper than the original. This includes using more weapons, replayability using more weapons, and a better story. I prefer going into story mode and finishing before jumping into multiplayer, but should work no matter how you prefer to play. Expand

Amazing improvement over the first splatoon on all aspects. Really addicting gameplay, sound and art. The cartoonish graphics hides an impressive competitive multiplayer game. Also the single player campaign is simply awesome. Must buy for anyone with a switch.

In 2015, Nintendo struck gold when it decided to put its quirky spin on the online shooter genre. The result was Splatoon, which is bound to go down in history as one of the company's main victories in the underappreciated Wii U console. A couple years later, we get a sequel on Switch that manages to one-up the original by pretty much every metric (one which, thankfully, isn't called Spla2n, no matter what kids these days think they want).

Splatoon 2's real meat is in its online play. In a nutshell, players gather in teams of four to duke it out by shooting ink at each other, with the objective of covering most of the stage's ground in their gooey substance (well, mostly; there are additional modes geared at the more competitive players). Aside from shooting, characters are able to transform into squids and swim through ink of their color, aiding with quick movement and refilling the ink tank in one fell swoop. This is, for me, one of two genius ideas at the heart of the franchise, as it helps tie the whole gameplay together while offering opportunity for players to move up walls and through grates.

The weapon selection is vast, and it's gradually unlocked as you gain levels. It includes traditional weapons like quick revolvers and gatling guns, but also stuff like rollers, brushes, and umbrellas, offering a wide array of playing styles. The fact that the main objective is covering the ground in ink is the second genius idea, as it means even players who aren't good at (or dislike) the precision of aiming at opponents can help by devising smart ways to cover large swaths of ground.

New to Splatoon 2 is a horde mode, called Salmon Run. It can be an absolutely exhillarating experience, as you team up with three others to kill invaders and collect salmon eggs for a hungry bear. The one caveat is that you don't get to choose which weapons you wield, relying instead on a randomized selection. This can be pretty annoying, as sometimes you'll just dislike how a specific weapon plays (hey there, splat charger!).

Like the first game, there is sadly no option for split-screen play, but this is where the Switch's portability is a godsend. I never went to the trouble of taking my entire Wii U (with a television to boot!) with me to play online modes together with a local friend, but I have already in many occasions taken my Switch with me for that purpose.

The single-player mode was also extended and improved, thanks to the addition of weapon selection instead of the small gun-only approach of the original. Stages are insanely well-designed linear platforming-and-shooting romps, with the exception of one open-ended but self-contained stage in each of the game's five worlds.

The one glaring omission from the first game is a minigame to distract yourself while waiting for enough players to join a match. The one available in the original Splatoon was just the kind of arcade fun I need to make the waiting, which is one of my biggest qualms with online multiplayer, more tolerable.

    TL;DR:
Splatoon is the most important new Nintendo IP in many years, and this sequel improves over almost every aspect of the excellent original. Shooting your ink around is as fun as before, and the new horde mode makes things even more varied for online players. Offline has also got a big improvement, as the level design remains incredible while weapon selection was significantly increased. As such, Splatoon 2 is a more than worthy sequel, and one that thoroughly deserves to continue the series' success.

Though never fun in real life, spilling ink all around is even more fun in Splatoon 2 than it was in the first game. Teaming up with your squid friends has never been better. But even though some weird Nintendo elements can drag the fun to a stall, everywhere that Splatoon 2 shines makes it a deserving heir to the original.
