Its a nice onlinegame, but in this Game is no anti-cheat, needs a very good Internetconnection and its laggy. For 20€ or $ in a year its to bad. BUT in Splatoon2 are a lot of gear and Weapons and thats a big + for Splatoon2. The fights are different to other shooters. I like this game and I have 400h played this game. It's a must have for NSO users!

Controls aren’t the best plus the lack of local multiplayer is really disappointing. Interesting take on the shooter game though

TL;DR - Love it, but there needs to be more of it. There are too many ways to cut comparisons that make the game easily feel bare bones, most notably to the already bare bones original. This feeling only increased when Paid Online was introduced, a rip off now that new content has stopped and improvements to Online as a whole are nowhere to be heard of.

I have a lot of detailed cons and few pros, but that's just because I'm really good at complaining and not describing good. I, in fact, adore this game a lot.

    Pros:

Unique and Fun Twist - There simply isn't anything that plays like Splatoon 2 other than the original, I'd gladly experience inking action day in and day out not only because of an engaging reward system, but actually being fun at its core. Not many games can say that.

    Cons:

Missing basic features - Since Nintendo has proven to be just like other companies as of late, I've decided to criticise them for this instead of being thankful that they're 'in the past'. Why no bots? Why no Single Player Salmon Run? Why no servers? Why can't the game tell me what I have and haven't bought already? Why are all the minigames gone, couldn't even port them?

Gear - The fun grinds to a halt when it comes to the gear system. I never re-roll because I know that I won't get what I want, so I always scrub slots. For some reason, the chunks just come way too slow. I guess it's improved in the sense that it's guaranteed, but it's worse in that it will always take forever. On that note, miss Splatfest and you're out of luck, simple as that.

Paid online - The quality just isn't satisfied if I have to continually pay for it. Keep in mind that I have a strong opinion that Paid Online is wrong full stop, but think about it, this version of Paid Online is at its worst, other platforms would at least butter you up so you don't feel bad that you're being forced into what should be a VERY unnecessary payment every year, on Nintendo you're paying for the sake of paying. Nintendo, if they insist on making it paid, should be buttering us up by bettering the online experience and putting more content into their online IPs, but after all this time there isn't so much as a rumour that they plan to do anything.

Lacking content - Stages and weapons never ported from the original, far too few online modes, especially casual ones, am I really asking much? It's such an easy fix too! Do what you have already been doing by using the Bucket tool on a pre-existing weapon palettes, re-arrange the pre-existing sub and special assets and release, I'm not a programmer and I know for a fact that this isn't hard. Stages? Re-release stages that ended up being overhauled overtime as 'classics' and port the stages that haven't been from the original. New modes? Easy: Single-Player Salmon Run, Survival Salmon Run (infinite amount of waves only stops after a crew wipe. Starts at easiest, gets harder by equivalent of 5 rank points each wave, more or less depending on performance. Scored by waves survived multiplied by average difficulty boosts across rounds.) Team Splatmatch (Team Deathmatch), a way to play pre-existing Ranked Modes casually, pre-existing modes but with asymmetrical multiplayer elements (usual team of 4 VS Player-Controlled and fully armoured Agent 4, fit with fully upgraded mains of each weapon class, every sub and all specials, equipped before the match), if they insist on Paid Online then a more substantial Offline, ability to play pre-existing modes Offline in general, pre-existing modes but with limitations on what main, sub and special is allowed to be used. I could go on, I really could.

Blasters - Nintendo thought it was smart to make a weapon class that can't miss, kills fast and has the advantage regardless of range. No, no it wasn't. Direct hit, instant kill. Miss twice, still a kill! Using a weaker Blaster that kills in 2 directs or 4 misses? Fires faster to compensate, I already mentioned you can't miss, it's exactly the same but with better coverage and maybe a more helpful set. Long range? Good, bully them without them even realising what's happening or being able to touch you. Short range? You DEFINITELY can't miss now and your range is way longer than you think due to the explosions. The only thing it can't do is get coverage, which doesn't matter as it will face every round essentially unopposed. Now yes, this class could be balanced out by removing automatic fire and requiring an additional button press for the ink bullet to explode to make them actually take skill to use and even make them more versatile, then maybe even buff their ink coverage to compensate for these changes, but after what they pulled with the Clash Blaster, I no longer trust the Devs to ever get this right. So, just remove the whole thing and equivalents, never speak of it again and never bring it back next game or in any game. Oh and a few other weapons are overpowered I guess, take this as a point about poor balancing?

This is game is really fun to play. I completed the single player missions and played a bunch of online matches and it doesn't get boring. It could have been my favourite game on the Switch, but unfortunately there are some weird decisions that hold this great game back:

-You can't save your progress online. They say it's to prevent cheating, but they don't seem to care as much about people who just want to have a backup in case their console breaks or gets lost.
-You always have to watch an unskippable cutscene each time you start the game which just gets annoying.
-Playing with friends is unnecessarily complicated. You have to join a friend's current game and wait for a free slot. Or everyone has to reach Level 10 and then rank B- to create a team. Or you play offline where each player needs their own console and game.
-When you play the co-op missions you get random weapons instead of being able to choose one which makes them more frustrating than they need to be.
-Getting ability chunks and Super Sea Snails takes much longer without Splatfests and those stopped happening regularly in July of last year. This makes progression much slower.
That said, I still love playing it. The graphics are great, the music is super catchy and the levels are well designed. If there ever will be a Splatoon 3, I hope it's just more of this without the flaws.

Having said that my main complaints are the multiplayer matchmaking system as of now Feb 29 2020 24 multiplayer maps which is more than enough but the system of choosing stages is flawed where in you will randomly get selected one of two stages which are randomly generated over 2 hours which means everyday your favorite stage will be on once but that does not mean you will get to play it as when it is on you could be at school, work or literally anything i think they should do the same stage selection as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe where every race you will get 3 new stages to chose from and if you do not like them you can always choose random this is good because if you do not like the 2 stages that have been chosen you basically cant play for 2 hours which is just Nintendo hurting its own player count also same with the ranked modes which there are 4 which you should just be able to choose your preferred mode and also there is no reason that salmon run should be open 24/7.

Whoever has the longest reach and/or most powerful weapon wins. ZZZzzz. This means that Splatoon 2 is now like Super Smash Bros. and Fortnite except it isn't Super Smash Bros. or Fortnite, and no one needs another Super Smash Bros. or Fortnite.

That said, there's still something to love. It's a visually fun game, and if you're playing with friends and chatting - coordinating your efforts - it's a lot of fun. If you're playing on your own, not so much.

I have at times waited numerous matches queued to join a friend, with it autofilling slots with other people before myself. In other instances, it joins me into a lobby without the friend. The lack of simple multiplayer functionality that has at this point been around for over a decade is inexcusable, and their attempt to remedy it through an external mobile app (whose party function still does not let you play together in public matches) is offensive. Paired with that, the unskippable news reels are annoying (especially since you have to sit through them every time the stages change), and the inability to play salmon run whenever I want also demotivates myself from playing. I know there is other game modes, but I tried Salmon run and didn't particularly enjoy it as it is far too hard and I am sort of incompetent while playing difficult games. Finally, the single player mode was fun yet underwhelming. I think it is lacklustre compared to the original game's story.
The reason I am giving it a good score, however, is because in the time before Nintendo Switch Online took over, I didn't stop playing it. It was brilliant. If they hadI missed out on experiencing Splatoon for the Wii U, so my experience with Splatoon 2 on the Switch is untampered by some complaints I've heard by people who did play it on the Wii U, namely the fact that they're calling it a sequel, though there's a sparsity of new features and overall it doesn't feel as though Nintendo heeded the feedback they received from the first game. If they had called it a "deluxe" edition, as they did with Mario Kart 8 on the Switch, rather than "Splatoon 2," I think the disappointment could have been avoided.

But luckily, this is the first experience I've had with the game, so my impressions are overall very positive, if number of playtime hours displayed on my Switch's profile are any indication, which would be 70 hours within just a month getting the game, and I don't see myself taking a break from it any time soon. I'll make a list of pros and cons, starting with the cons:

    Cons:
-there really should be more modes than there are. What is there is apparently fun enough to drain 70 hours of my life throughout the course of a single month, but with only four modes (five if you include Salmon Run, which is only available on specific days at specific times), it really does make you wish for more
-the single player campaign is fine, but there really is a lot more potential for it, given that the core gameplay mechanics are so unique. And locating the actual levels in each of the five worlds is irritating
-there are a lot of different loading screens in the community area, whether you walk into a shop, walk into the lobby, walk into the Salmon Run waiting area, or equip new gear. A loading screen pops up for everything
-the game does not do a good job of acclimating new players to the different features, and things you can do. There are some things I just recently found out about (after playing for a month), such as all the different things Murch can do for you, like ordering specific gear items you like that you see players in the community area wearing, or scrubbing slots, or collecting ability chunks, etc. That's probably my fault for not going out of my way to talk to the NPCs, but I still wish there had been a more comprehensive tutorial available somewhere (maybe there is, I just have to go out of my way to find it, I have no idea. Most informative and useful things to know in this game you need to go out of your way to find out about, which is frustrating)
-that freaking "talk show" that comes up EVERY time you turn the game back on, and is completely unskippable, wasting 45 second of my life on information that can me conveyed in three seconds, makes me want to rip my hair out. What the hell was Nintendo thinking when they made that unskippable, and why the hell has there not been an update allowing you to skip it after almost a year since the game was released?
-there isn't an option to save replays of matches. The screenshot button allows you to record up to 30 seconds of footage, but there's no way I can know something awesome is going to happen before I start recording. Really wish they would include a replay feature.
-I am not convinced it is conceivably possible to win a match if one of your team mates dips out last minute. One time I got stuck on a team of three and we made it within four percent of winning, but that is the closest I've ever seen it. Typically it's just a slaughter. It isn't as if their team has an edge over you, and you're simply fighting with the odds stacked against you. Nope. You're just done.
-no split screen competition of coop. I'd love to play it with my wife, but we'd have to get a second Switch and a second copy of the game, which is a shame.

All that being said, this is still some of the most straight up fun I've ever had with a game.

    Pros:
    -kids that are also squids
    -game mechanics are super unique
    -matches can be ridiculously tense
-you play as kids, and squids
-there may be a lack of modes, but the sheer amount of mileage you get out of such few modes is amazing
-customization options are expansive, but it never feels as though other players have an unfair advantage over you because they have better gear
    -First I'm a kid, then I'm a squid, then I'm a kid, then I'm a squid
-all of the control options feel good, whether I'm using joy cons, my pro controller, or handheld mode
-no lootboxes, no paywalls, no "pay to win" features. You buy the game, you play the game, the end
    -so many colors
-there are kids and there are squids and the kids are also squids

    Edit:
I thought I might retroactively change my score, because I wrote this review back when I had only spent around 15 hours with this game and I original scored it with an 8. I now have spent over 300 hours playing this game, and I'd feel dishonest not giving any game that managed to steal 300 hours of my life away a perfect 10.

On top of the fun campaign mode, which holds a mix of shooting and well thought out platforming sections, you’ll find an extremely fun multiplayer offering. Easy to pick up and play, this game can be very competitive at the same time, as the well refined motion controls allow individual players to truly show their skills if they manage to master the aiming system.

Each level grants you the ability to unlock new clothing items and weapons with the in game currency. On top of that, each piece of clothing has the ability to level up up to three times, unlocking random additional skill sets. Dozens and dozens of different weapons can be bought at the weapon shop, allowing each player to easily find their own play style.

Both the amazing sounds and music make sure each match (which usually lasts not more than 3 minutes, making this title perfect for its portable pick up and play nature) ends up being a lot of fun, and with its happy go lucky overall theme and the large amount of varied and different maps, it will surely put a smile on your face more than once. The shooting mechanics are satisfying and the damage feedback is always a pleasure to listen to.

This game could easily get a 9 if it wasn’t for some major shortcomings, like the inability to play the wonderful co-op mode whenever you want (it is, in fact, only available on certain days), and the awful friends matchmaking system. If you can get past these issues, you’ll find Splatoon 2 to not only be an amazing pick up and play title perfect for the switch, but also one of the best shooters that ever made it to a Nintendo console.

I love Splatoon 2. The gameplay's great, there's almost too much content in the game. The graphics have improved so much from the first. The game's very balanced and polished. Although having Salmon Run available at all times would be great. Now I do see why they did it, it would still be nice to have it available at all times

Every person in this universe: Please can we have servers
Nintendo: Servers? Screw that sh*t, you can give us $20 tho, nvm you have to give us $20 now.

Oh, btw cloud saves aren't supported - Nintendo

Besides the 2 second delay on multiplayer a good game, music is good, the art style is good, these delays just subtract so much from high level play.

There are a lot of things to love about Splatoon 2 like its bright colourful gorgeous graphics, its unique sound track and the tons of free dlc that come out for the game. The game overall is quite good but is VERY similar to its predecessor and feels more like an expansion than an actual new game. The weapons also arent very balanced.

The login to matches (or the whole switch's connection to different servers) has been designed so utterly terribly that none of these work. I'm still stuck with NAT type C and the game doesn't work.

Worst of all, totally spineless nintendo shop doesn't give you returns that you could get your money back from useless products.

It was a good lesson for an 11-year-old (and myself) that big corporations can be the biggest scammers.

I advise to prepare for disappointment of you decide to buy this product.

If this online service didn't exist, I would have given this game a solid 8. But since it does exist, I had to bump it down to a 7. Expand

Excellent game. Even though it is basically just like the first Splatoon, this game is still great. Hours and hours of fun. I have no complaints regarding this game. I am only a level 30 and there are level 99 people playing. I never get tired of this game. This is how a "shooter" should be, just fun without hearing 12 year olds screaming in my ear or trying to insult me LOL.

I rented Splatoon 2 because of the great reviews. I only rented it for the single-player campaign because my internet does not support multiplayer games. I have never met a motion-controller that I like, and Splatoon 2 didn't change my mind about that. It uses motion controls to aim, and that makes aiming awkward and frequently frustrating. There is no precision to aiming, and that is very important in a 3rd person shooter. The single-player campaign is hidden in the city. I found the first two levels, which took me about an hour to complete. There are 5 levels total from the guide I read. I quit the game after the first two levels were completed because of the motion controls though. The game has an interesting mechanic where your character can turn into a squid and swim in any ink you've laid down, which happens with every shot of your gun as it shoots ink. But your gun doesn't have a very long range, so you can't hit anything more than 5 feet in front of you, much less the balloons floating above you that you need to target to progress, and there are frequent platforming sections where you need to ink the platform in front of you, squid to the end, and jump to the next platform. With motion controls, these are the embodiment of frustration, as I had to attempt a simple jump more than a few times, and it just isn't fun. Ultimately, I decided the game wasn't worth my precious time and returned it. Your tolerance for motion controls may vary, but if you hate them like I do, you're not going to like this game. 2/5 stars. Expand

Great single player mode. Lots of content being poured out by Nintendo, including a full fledged single player DLC. The downsides to this game are the abysmal online server provided. Large amounts of latency, disconnects, awful matchmaking, and inability to easily group with friends make the fun online multiplayer into a frustrating experience.

Though never fun in real life, spilling ink all around is even more fun in Splatoon 2 than it was in the first game. Teaming up with your squid friends has never been better. But even though some weird Nintendo elements can drag the fun to a stall, everywhere that Splatoon 2 shines makes it a deserving heir to the original.

Splatoon 2 builds on what its successor did so well, with a much larger base of assets that has allowed Nintendo to provide more to consumers right off the bat.

Splatoon extended its content and has brought a funny storyline in the second episode. Both newcomers to the Switch and fans of the first game, this is a must-have for you. [Issue#277]
