Soul Searching is short, sharp and symbolic. It amalgamates excellent audio with engaging scenery to provide the perfect backdrop for an exploratory, non-combative adventure, leaving some reflecting on life long after the credits roll, and others failing to see what it was all for.

The rating system actually fails to account for something like this, as this is more like an assault on the psychological health of the player than a game, it practically has negative value. An honest rating would be -5 as far as I am concerned since the amount of time I spent playing and actually finishing it was not the only amount of time I lost to it, it took some extra time to feel good again afterwards. Avoid even if someone offers you money to play it. Full Review »

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. Got the game on a sale, and for that it's OK. The visuals are OK, the islands have different themes, but still feel kinda the same at heart, almost every one has a food and water place, a shop with the exact same items, a bar and a handful of people, there isn't much to the characters, and the character creator seems kinda pointless. The soundtrack seems nice, but I played a good bit without sound. I visited every big Island I could see on my map, upgraded my boat every time, then I wanted to proceed to what seemed to be the last island with the "???", as I approached it, I got completely destroyed by 3 or 4 dragons, and I couldn't do anything about it, died and respawned on a boat about 3 levels under mine. I just kinda lost interest after that, because I didn't see a way to get past those dragons, if they were a scripted event. If there is a spell that can beat them on one of the little unnamed islands all the way at the beginning, cool, I'm sure as hell not going all the way back there. The story and world didn't seem that worth it from what I got to see, imagine just a handful of things that are wrong with real life, like really basic stuff, put that into an island setting and add a good lack of subtlety. That paired with some kinda bland and samey characters and you basically got the gist of the story and world. The boat navigation is cool, the survival mechanics are more of an annoyance. Overall rather meh. Full Review »
