    i wanted to give this game a second chance but....
    i never understand that people call this the best 3d sonic game while this game is a 2d game with 3d sections lets be real. and you have games like adventure 1 and 2 heroes unleashed and generations
    this game has block like level design and the wisps arent fun to use [maybe drill is but] this game isn't really a good boost game there is    i wanted to give this game a second chance but....

    this game isn't really a good boost game there is so mutch stop and go platforming that just doesn't work if they wanted to make it good they should have done what sonic lost world did if they wanted stop and go platforming. sure unleashed and generations has some platforming but you can boost through them with timing and there not that long.....

    ultimate made the game even worse with al these glitches and i get so annoyed that people are defending this but still bashing 06 this game is more broken than that.. 06 only had physics stuff and random jank moments but this game has a ton of lighting glitches and overal is just broken . like safe file's getting corrupted

    remix soundtrack is okay although the original tracks are better
    cosmetics are neat altho nothing special they shouldd have done things like soap shoes or chips bracelet. but its okay

    rival rush is just a time trail so nothing that cool i wish you could play as metal sonic if u finished all of them.

    AT THE END OF THE DAY if u enjoy this game thats fine i guess i mean games like unleashed aren't going anywhere so il just stick with those i guess i just have to accept that this game isn't for me

    Full of bugs and glitches. I just got a refund on this game. I don’t recommend this at all. If they fix the glitches and bugs then maybe.

    Sonic Colors definitely needs a remaster. What we got with Sonic Colors: Ultimate, however, is a stylistically questionable and much more buggy game than was seen on the Wii. The upgrade to HD and the cosmetic bells and whistles are good and the new soundtrack can also convince in many places. The gameplay of the original has remained largely unchanged, which still makes the game a funSonic Colors definitely needs a remaster. What we got with Sonic Colors: Ultimate, however, is a stylistically questionable and much more buggy game than was seen on the Wii.     Sonic colors on Switch is definetly one of the most buggiest ports of the console, due to the inconsistent frame rate, poor drawing distance, múltiple colission glitches and the poor graphics makes the Game just not fun to play

    This version of Colors Ultimate is somehow even worse than the already horrendously awful PS4 version. It has all the same issues as the PS4 version, except with seizure inducing glitches! Brilliant. Please for the love of god sell this godforsaken franchise to an actually competent company.

    Realmente es difícil valorar bien este juego. Lo disfruté en su momento, cuando estaba niño, pero ahora solo me sorprende lo mal que se ven las cinemáticas, y lo aburrido de su diseño de niveles. Aún más, es estresante cómo combina las secciones 2D con las 3D, ya que las 3D son divertidas y cortas, y las 2D son tediosas y largas. Esto empeora cuando te fijas que las físicas no son las deRealmente es difícil valorar bien este juego. Lo disfruté en su momento, cuando estaba niño, pero ahora solo me sorprende lo mal que se ven las cinemáticas, y lo aburrido de su diseño de niveles. Esto empeora cuando te fijas que las físicas no son las de Generations, y no le llega ni a los tobillos a las de Mania. Es MUY difícil calcular los saltos, y la inercia es nula, así que cualquier movimiento puede ser exagerado para zonas de plataformeo preciso.

    A esto le agregas los cambios gráficos, en los que la iluminación (sobre todo en sonic) refleja demasiado, y los colores son más muertos que los de la entrega original, y realmente te das cuenta de lo mal que ha envejecido este juego. Incluso el menú se siente molesto, y ni hablar del volumen exagerado de los efectos de sonido. Verdaderamente ensordecedores, que opacan la genial música por completo, y que no se pueden configurar!
    Por qué no se puede configurar el volumen de la música y los sonidos por aparte????

    En fin, se nota que quisieron hacer algo mejor que el 3D allstars de Mario, pero terminaron fallando con bugs mundialmente conocidos, y un desempeño mediocre.    … Expand

    Sonic Colors wasn't even that amazing when it was first released on the wii. But this "remaster" is just pathetic. The sound mixing is headache-inducing, the game is littered with bugs, and the bloom is just too much in some areas. Don't play this, PLAY UNLEASHED. UNLEASHED FOREVER BABYYYY

    I want to give this version of the game a good review. Trust me I do, it was my favorite game to play on the Wii back then and I got hyped at the fact that you can now play the game portably on the Nintendo Switch, but there is just so much wrong, it just isn’t acceptable. Despite Nintendo Switch hardware being weaker than other consoles, it is practically stronger than last-gen consoles.I want to give this version of the game a good review. Trust me I do, it was my favorite game to play on the Wii back then and I got hyped at the fact that you can now play the game portably on the Nintendo Switch, but there is just so much wrong, it just isn’t acceptable. Despite Nintendo Switch hardware being weaker than other consoles, it is practically stronger than last-gen consoles. Yet, the game is stuck running in 30 FPS and it isn’t even consistent. You’ll sometimes get frame drops when transitioning camera angles. You’d think it would run better, but no. To be fair, it does look better than on Wii hardware, but that’s when the positives end. Load times are also embarrassing! Up to 20 seconds for a level to load! And don’t even get me started with the audio! It’s just a hot mess! Wisp themes won’t play at times when activated and to fix the issue, I would have to pause the game, press the home button, then go back to the game to get it to work properly! The sound effects/audio mixing doesn’t work right either. You’ll hear the music from both left and right channels, but jumping SFX will get all jacked up, moving from one ear to another (noticeable when using headphones or through higher speaker volumes).

    As for visual glitches, yes there are game-breaking,” seizure-inducing” glitches and bugs in the game, but I have not experienced any like the ones shown online. As you may have heard, those are caused if you switch between planets over and over again. The only types of visual glitches I would get are the usual falling through platforms and dying ones. Or where Sonic can’t complete a full loop in some areas. Other than that, nothing too severe like the ones shown on the web.

    As for new content, there isn’t much. Sure there’s the “options satellite” where you can view your stats and customize Sonic’s appearance, but I didn’t find myself using this as much for these areas, only to access the settings to remap the buttons. The remixed music is alright but I feel it was not necessary to change the originals. However, they still had the original versions of the soundtracks for the last three acts of every planet so I guess I can live with that. The Jade Ghost was also a fun addition to the game, but is only really used to phase through walls to reach red rings or other items. One last thing that ticks me off that I believe should not have been changed, is the underwater drill theme… WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE CHANGED TO THE SONIC LOST WORLD VERSION! It was already fine the way it was in the original game and sounds way better than the lost world version! I know it may seem like something small to everyone else, but to me, it’s one of the aspects that made sonic colors unique compared to the games that came after it.

    Other than the obvious issues, this game has a lot of potentials to be better when it gets patched. Hopefully, a stable version of the game will be released soon.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe edition, so I ended up getting the game early on September 3rd for my Switch Lite. Personally, my experience with the game was mostly smooth. I completed the story, got all 180 red rings, got the 7 Chaos Emeralds, got S-rank on all stages and completed Egg Shuttle. Thankfully, my game never corrupted my save data nor given me seizures. My copy was somewhat stable and I say "somewhat" for a reason. Despite completing most of the game, it still has a ton of technical issues and crashed on me a bunch of times whenever I try to complete Rival Rush in Aquarium Park or Asteroid Coaster. Once I beat Metal Sonic and go through the Results screen, the game crashes.

    Coupled with the game crashes, I dealt with random glitches where dash panels don't work like they're supposed to, Tails Save breaks the 2D-3D transition sections, audio and music cutting in and out at sporadic points, framerate issues during busy stages like Aquarium Park and a lot of graphical issues and pop-up when it comes to platforms, rings and various background details. Then there are the loading times, which last close to 12 seconds, which is unacceptable considering the original Colors' loading times were shorter. In terms of gameplay and level design, that's where I express issues with Colors as a whole, both the original and remaster, because of its overall design. Sonic still controls how he did in Unleashed, where he moves and steers like a car. His physics are further tank-like in order to make him manageable at high speeds when racing through levels. In the boost formula, Sonic is specifically designed to go through level design that involves racetrack-like design. The boost formula is after all a glorified racing game since the emphasis is on speed and quick reflexes and being able to find the quickest routes to the goal. Colors, however, deviates from that design philosophy and puts Sonic in level design that's completely counterintuitive to his gameplay and physics.

    Instead of the levels being mostly in 3D and involving extensive use of the drift and quick step, Colors' game design is predominately in 2.5D and involves a lot of platforming, exploration and puzzle-solving elements, especially when Wisps are involved. Sonic's controls, however, clash with that sort of level design and leads to a lot of frustration and cases where Sonic feels too stiff and tank-like to work with platforming, let alone puzzle-solving. Coupled with that, he moves too fast at points, which makes it easy to run into enemies or fall off into bottomless pits during moments of precise platforming. It's the kind of game design where the original developers (Sonic Team) had zero clue what they were doing when designing the game or how the gameplay and level design could complement each other.

    Then, when you add in Blind Squirrel Games' incompetence into the mix with the abundance of glitches and graphical and audio issues, Colors Ultimate is honestly a horrific mess of a game and ends up being one of the worst Sonic games in recent history in my opinion. In the end, Blind Squirrel Games has a lot of work to do in patching this game and getting rid of as many glitches as possible. It's a shame because I did enjoy parts of Colors Ultimate despite my issues with the game's overall design. I like the game's creative usage of the Wisps and also the addition of the Jade Wisp. The Jade Wisp adds a bit more replay value to the game and has you exploring parts of levels you hardly were able to explore in the original Colors. It's an interesting twist. I also like some of the graphical enhancements, Rival Rush and the customization options in terms of the controls and Sonic's cosmetics. Movie Sonic's boost and aura are my go-to favorites to use. Even with the customization options though, there's still a lack of options in terms of mapping the drift to the Left and Right triggers and the quick step to the L and R buttons and also the music. You can't toggle listening to just the remixes or the original music. You're stuck with listening to both the original and remixes despite Generations, for example, offering far more options to the player in terms of what music to listen to in stages and bosses and that game was released back in 2011. It's inexcusable and yet another case of terrible decision-making on Blind Squirrel Games' part.

    I can go on and on about the game's lackluster story and how I hate its childish and ridiculous tone and unfunny jokes, but this review has gone on long enough. To wrap this review up, this remaster is a disaster through and through and is full of horrific design choices. I recommend that people stay clear of this game until Blind Squirrel Games releases enough patches to fix this broken mess. Until then, avoid this game like the plague, especially the Playstation 4 version since that version can corrupt and delete save data, which is beyond unacceptable.    … Expand

    The game is flawed. I didn't want to believe the rumors, but they are true. It is completely unacceptable in my humble opinion, especially for Sega. I will change my review if they patch the game, but as for now, it is a disaster.

    I think that this game was truly worse than sonic forces and that’s really saying something. Sega completely blew their chances to redeem themselves on the last flaw which was sonic forces. I felt that sonic forces was a playable game.

    This is the remaster that everyone hyped for, It's even worse than forces. I played it on my Nintendo Switch and it has a lot of glitches, so I decided to play it on my PlayStation4 and it has the same problems, No I won't recommend this game.

I don’t know if I was lucky or what I had a couple of very minor graphical glitches and one time a boss fight stopped functioning properly, otherwise my experience was fine. But, I recognize this game came out flawed.     Sonic Colors is not my favorite game in the series but it is a really good one. Played the original on Wii just a few days before the remaster came out and honestly I didn't have any issues with it. Most stages look better than og except for Tropical Resort which ends up being less colorful but the place is in space but still. Overall this remaster is 100% worth the pick up. I have heard certain bugs are more present on the Switch version but I haven't experienced them but if you feel uneasy about getting it on Switch then buy it on PS or Xbox/PC those have less bugs than the Switch from what I have seen. 8/10 Great Remaster.… Expand

    Sonic Colors Ultimate is a really good remaster simple story with good balance of 3D and 2D gameplay with a few nice quality of life changes alongside of the gameplay staying the same. There are a few glitches (haven't experienced any) but they're not widespread and I feel like some people overexaggerate some of the glitches itself 10/10

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For someone who never really got a chance to try Sonic Colors back when I owned a wii, I finally got to play Sonic Colors Ultimate on a modern console. Here's my review:
    Pros:
    - For a story that began the writing of the "meta era" this is so much better than the games we get later on.
    - The graphics in my opinion look very good. It makes Sonic Colors feel more beautiful than the original (from gameplay footage I've seen from the wii)
    - The new homing attack system feels so satisfying. It shows you some skill of how to time your attacks perfectly against enemies which I find very fresh.
    - The wisps were a great addition to Sonic. Even tho I think they have been over used too much later on the series, this was a pretty neat addition.
    - The new Rival Rush is my favorite, it gets pretty challenging especially in Sweet Mountain which got me sweating for awhile.
    - The cosmetics are very cool. I hope they continue to do this for now on. It adds plenty of replayability to the game.

    Cons-
    - As much as I like the story, the dialogue in this game is not even funny. A character stays on the joke too and them explains about the joke which I don't find it amusing. It should have taken some notes from Sonic Unleashed.
    - The bugs in this game are everywhere. Hopefully these glitches will be patched later on.
    - This game relies on the 2D sections a bit too much which makes it boring.
    - The brightness in this game is just too damn bright that I might watch the sun rather than this game.

    Therefore, Sonic Colors Ultimate is an okay game    … Expand

    The best Sonic game in the series!
    Sonic Colors is an amazing experience with well implemented wisps and amazing level design, the graphics are candy to the eyes and the story and voice acting is good and the music is amazing.
    10/10
    No bugs and glitches at all, if anyone says there's bugs and glitches than he's lying to make Sonic looks bad, DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So i had the original Sonic Colours on the Wii played on my Wii U and i loved it back then! And when the remaster still makes me think the same about this game and i really love the new visuals Sonic looks very shiny with the bloom applied and the new additions are cool as well the new customization and the rival rush is really fun!
    Now sadly im stuck with the switch version and its visuals were stripped down all other versions have 4K 60fps while the switch version only allows for 720p 30fps but it still looks great.
    Now the bugs are kinda annoying but i didnt run into too many but you may have a buggier experince so be warned also the seizure bug to avoid it dont switch maps too fast too often as the game get confused wich to textures to load in so it loads in a flickering mess.
    If you have paitince wait for patches if you wanna play it now dont get the switch version so ill give this game an 9/10 still as good as it was.    … Expand

There are also advantages such as graphic remastering, new wisp additions, and customization features, but the loading times are strangely long on Switch.     Sonic Colors on the Wii was one of the best games to ever come out of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, after stumbling for a while in the mid 2000's Sonic Unleashed brought a formula where the blue blur could work on a tridimensional space blazing at top speed in one of the most frenetic action platformers ever made and Sonic Colors took another try at that formula, only this time adding aSonic Colors on the Wii was one of the best games to ever come out of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, after stumbling for a while in the mid 2000's Sonic Unleashed brought a formula where the blue blur could work on a tridimensional space blazing at top speed in one of the most frenetic action platformers ever made and Sonic Colors took another try at that formula, only this time adding a little twist.
    Unlike it's predecesor, Colors is a bit less frenetic, going for more of a platform heavy emphasis, that being said, i don't think it hinders the gameplay in any shape or form, in fact, going for the 5 red rings that are hidden on every level only helps to show how creative this levels can truly be, putting a high emphasis on the wisp color powers like the lazer, drill, frenzy, cube and the newly added ghost
    As a whole Sonic colors is a 9/10 game, but i cannot give this version of the game that score given how mixed i am on the remastering work blindsqurell games did.
    First i must adress, must of the seizure inducing heavy glitches that have been floating all over twitter have been overblown to the extreme, where as a matter of fact you'll rarely experience this, if at all; They can be triggered on actual hardware, but you need to get out of your way to actually trigger them, believe me, i've played over 25 hours on the switch an i can promise that on a regular playtrough you WON'T find any of this Issues. Sadly, those glitches are far from the only issue the "Ultimeta" version of this game brings up
    The Audio mixing is truly terrible, from sounds coming out of one headphone only to wisp music straight out NOT appearing, it can be a bummer to see the game audio fail sometimes
    The graphics look gorgeus if you ask me, they did an overhaul to the entire game and it looks better than it has ever looked, especially on Sweet Mountain where godrays give the level a truly next-gen appearance, which is impressing considering this was originally a wii title.
    The new remixes are 50/50, while the trumpets of Sweet Mountain and the new take on Planet Wisp Act 1 sound worse than the original there are way more hits than misses; The piano on Tropical resort gimes me chills every time i replay the level and the new Planet Wisp Act 2 Remix is simply phenomenal.
    Touching on the las aspects of this remaster there's Rival Races against metal Sonic which are okay but they're nothing truly outstanding, and there's the Tail Save replacement on the outdated lives system of the original game, and being 100% Honest it barely chnages the game experience.
    In conclusion, Sonic Colors Ultimate is a mediocre remaster work, but at the end of the day its still Sonic Colors, which I repeat, is one of the best games to ever come out of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. I deeply recommend the game for those who haven't tried it out on the Wii, but to everyone who has, stick to the Wii original.    … Expand

    This is one of the best 3D/2D sonic games since generations and colors on Wii IDK about the glitches issues since I never experienced them myself but I gotta say boy did I have fun feeling while playing this the world's the wisp powers it makes for an unique fun Gameplay experience that only colors can do

    Actually pitiful. Shame on me for preordering a remaster of a fine sonic game in current sega times and expecting it to be just as good. If it was a little less good, I'd get it. But there are so many problems here that just can't be ignored easily.

    This game is a must have IMO, whether you're looking to get into the series, play a new game, or just add to your switch collection this game is for you.     Es una remasterización un tanto floja que pudo haber sido mas, el modo carrera esta muy vacio y la customizacion es muy extraña ya que hay pocas opciones a escoger

    On the whole, "Sonic Colors: Ultimate" can be seen on the consoles and is really good in terms of gameplay. The storylines with the familiar characters are simply good and are a lot of fun right from the start. The controls are quite fluid and work flawlessly so far. The graphical performance would simply have been more in it. And a later trailer showed off the "Ultimate" version next to the Wii version, either SEGA or Blind Squirrel purposefully made the Wii version look like trash to boost people's interest. Non of the issues present in the trailers have been fixed, even worse is that people's saves are being corrupted and for switch users, seizure inducing glitches. Granted the player has to go out of their way to trigger this visual melt downs. Sometimes the Switch version dips under 15fps. Don't know why the team decided to use a new open source Godot engine for this project. This is supposed to be an ULTIMATE version of a **** Wii game. If you really wanted a better experience for Sonic Colors, play it on Dolphin with 60fps boost. Any modern PC or Phone can run it. SEGA, either put one of your owned studios to work or find a capable company that can deliver on quality. **** hell...
    Listen, going off tangent here, I've been a Sonic fan since 1991, we had our ups and hard downs. But I'm exhausted of SEGA or **** Iizuka lying to us fans. If SEGA hadn't released Maina, that would've been it for a majority of fans. Unleashed was a breath of fresh air, Colors stabilized the foundation, and Generations put the building blocks of what a good Sonic game can be.

    Graphics: Cataract and Glaucoma simulator
    Controls: Sonic is literally slower in this version
    Sounds: Too loud
    Music: Originals are 100% better
    Story: Didn't age well
    Added Content: Don't even bother its trash

    I paid way to much money for this game, and that's coming from a guy who paid $9 for Forces on launch date.    … Expand

    Sonic Colours was the few mainline Sonic games I had not played, that was until Sonic Colours Ultimate released. I don't think I need to talk much about the original, but Ultimate is worth the opinion.

    Sonic Colours Ultimate on other platforms is a great experience, with great additions like HD resolution, 60 FPS and more, while the switch unfortunately is 30 FPS. Ultimate includes    Sonic Colours was the few mainline Sonic games I had not played, that was until Sonic Colours Ultimate released. I don't think I need to talk much about the original, but Ultimate is worth the opinion.

    Ultimate includes cosmetics, player icons, ghost races with Metal Sonic and a little extra, and that is great, but the game gets brought down due to technical issues, with the worst being on Switch. When these get ironed out, it'll be an easy 8, maybe even 9, since the changes are great, and Sonic controls wonderfully here, it's just being held back. If I suggest playing this, either on PC or Xbox, since nothing like the PS5 or Switch issues are there.    … Expand

    It's a magnificent game, it has some buggy textures once in a while, but it's nothing that can't be repaired in the next patch. I'm now trying to get the 100% of the game.

    aside from having beautiful backgrounds and astonishing graphics, this game does not have much to offer. The levels are very repetitive, and they aren’t even fun. The story is somewhat unclear, and the gameplay is absolutely underwhelming. Adding on, you also don’t even get to take in scenery and backgrounds because you are going so fast. Fighting enemies is very underwhelming, youaside from having beautiful backgrounds and astonishing graphics, this game does not have much to offer. The levels are very repetitive, and they aren’t even fun. The story is somewhat unclear, and the gameplay is absolutely underwhelming.     Really great remaster. They messed up at launch on switch, but developers are listening to the feedback and they fixed the whole mess. I really love the graphics, its accurate to the title. We got more content than colors on Wii, we got ability to customize Sonic and we got Rival Rush with Metal Sonic. They even remastered music so it sounds like it has more energy put into it. The onlyReally great remaster. They messed up at launch on switch, but developers are listening to the feedback and they fixed the whole mess. I really love the graphics, its accurate to the title. We got more content than colors on Wii, we got ability to customize Sonic and we got Rival Rush with Metal Sonic. They even remastered music so it sounds like it has more energy put into it.     Switch aparenta não conseguir manter 30 Quadros por segundo de maneira contínua o que acaba voltando ao tópico 1º em seu tempo de resposta e congelamentos de imagem.

    Minha nota poderia ser maior se apenas falasse com óculos de nostalgia mas infelizmente a versão de Switch é a pior escolha no momento, apesar de terem consertado vários bugs e principalmente um que causava EPILEPSIA ele ainda está longe de ser um produto sólido para se recomendar fora a questão de não ser barato.    … Expand

    The original game was good, but the remaster is worse than the original game, it added new bugs that weren't there, and the new features are not worth the money and the graphics in this game are the same as in the original game.
    P.S. in my version of the game, if i try to start a competitive rush with a Metal Sonic then game crush, same with customization Sonic

    Sonic Colors Ultimate is a okay game. I think too, the patches, fixed the game but it could be better at some points. I also really love The Original (Wii Version). I hope if they make one day a Sonic Unleashed Remaster it should be the same game but in 4K and 60fps and extra content. But yeah Sonic Colors Ultimate is a great game

    I wanted to like this game, I really did, the Wii version is why I got into sonic in the first place, but this game was just not for me. In a weird way I think the graphics got worse, the lighting is cranked up to 1000 and the characters appear metallic.     Everything about Sonic Colors should work, but like so many 3D Sonic games before it, its ultimate potential remains just out of reach. There's fun to be had, and the high points are incredibly cool, but the shoddy gameplay boils the entire thing down to a surprisingly mediocre experience that's tragically unworthy of what this concept deserves. [Issue #58 – March/April 2022, p. 74]

    A content-packed game that really shows the essence of Sonic, specially in the 3D sections. Switch version is not the most spectacular of them all, but it's really enjoyable nonetheless (and you can do it outside).
