    The game is less kind with newcomers and beginners, as it has very little in terms of tutorials and assistance for those less familiar with snooker but despite its somewhat robotic animations and limited career mode, Snooker 19 fills a gap in the Nintendo Switch catalogue.

    Sports simulators continue to raise the bar of quality on Nintendo Switch, and Snooker 19 keeps that upward curve moving with an officially licensed recreation of all things baize-based. With an impressive number of facially-scanned pros and real-world snooker halls, and an incredibly precise simulation of striking the ball and setting up future shots, you’re treated to one of the best snooker games of the last decade. While still very rough around in the edges in terms of animations, commentary and accessibility, this is a must for snooker devotees who want an officially-licensed sim on Switch.

    For the very small niche of people who care that much about Snooker, however, Snooker 19 does deliver. There are more accessible Pool titles out there - including on the Nintendo Switch itself, but as an attempt to go the full distance with a deeply authentic simulation, Snooker 19 is a good and genuine effort.

    Snooker 19 is a decent snooker game, but a poor entry into any other category. Dated graphics and finicky controls make this hard to recommend.

    The table and balls look good... the physics seems spot on. Everything else looks like about 15 years behind. The player models are particularly awful looking.

    The biggest problem is there’s nothing to encourage newcomers... by default the game is set to “hard” mode, but even if you select “easy” you’ll be playing against guys that can clear an entire table from scratch (if not from the break). You’ll never see them fluff a medium-to-easy shot like you do in the real game. One mistake, and it’s game over. At all game difficulty levels, these are superhuman players. Want to build up your skills with some specific puzzles/challenges? Well, this being 2020, the age of nickel-and-diming us all, that costs extra.

    Where to start, well let’s start in 1995 considering that’s where the game looks like it’s from, it’s a shocker really, the gameplay is clunkyWhere to start, well let’s start in 1995 considering that’s where the game looks like it’s from, it’s a shocker really, the gameplay is clunky at best at its worse it’s tedious, you never really get the feeling you’re playing snooker, You set up your shot in 3 separate stages then there’s an animation of the shot you’ve just set up, it all feels robotic instead of the free flowing game it should be, which is surprising considering how good ripstones Pure Pool was in 2014, I mean they’ve had 5 years to better pure pool and this is it? Sorry but this is a backwards step, and the commentary is no better “what do you think we should do next children” ooh that wasn’t very good was it, silly billy.....save yourself some cash and buy pure pool, don’t be a silly billy.… Full Review »
