Despite it being a short game outside of its high replay value, Shu is a charming and beautiful 2.5D platformer that has a lot to offer between its calm stages and its more frantic moments.

From the gorgeous, simple visuals to the ever-changing platforming, Shu is an excellent example of what a small developer can do to push the genre forward. For that reason, this game is worth a look for platforming fans.

There’s polish to its presentation and controls, invention in the way it strings together the combinations of different abilities, and oodles of charm in its aesthetic. Especially as a game to play while in portable mode, Shu is a platformer that any fans of the genre should consider trying.

Shu is a platformer that while short, is a magnificent piece of gaming to discover and explore. Its wonderful audiovisual component, a difficulty curve that gradually increases the performance demanded from the player and a capacity to keep the players holding on to it until the very end make this a title that is more than worthy of its praise.

SHU is a classic platformer that does the genre justice. It may not be super advanced, but it is good fun.

Shu is a charming and elegant little platformer that surprised me with its fast, but also calming, gameplay.

Shu is a beautiful 2D platformer that while short on length and content provides a wonderful and mostly peaceful adventure for all audiences to enjoy.

While The Refuge, released on the PS Vita, is not present this does not impact gameplay and the Switch version of this title is far superior to its previous mobile incarnation. The team at Coatsink has optimized this title, making excellent use of the Switch’s power. If you were disappointed by the pace of Sonic Forces and absolutely love games like Rayman Legends, then this game will have you hooked. Shu is out now in the Nintendo eShop.

Shu is a pretty and emotional journey whose atmosphere building is just like my love towards soccer - non-existent. It looks and plays nice, but ultimately fails to capture our hearts with its cute yet flawed storytelling.

In the end, Shu is a well-made platformer that is short but does many things right. It may not be the best, flawless or the most original game out there, but it's a fun and varied journey that's worth taking if you're fond of the genre.

Shu is not exactly a memorable experience, mostly because of its non-existent difficulty and derivative gameplay. Nonetheless, the game from Coatsink is perfect for touch and go moments, has a peculiar style and art, and a peaceful soundtrack.

Yoshi's Island this is not, but it's a honest and cute (albeit very short) platform, with a handful of good ideas but a strange difficulty curve. If only it didn't play that safe, it could have been a first choice for Switch owners.

A nice and fairly simple platforming game, which ends up being entertaining, despite its short length. Its collectables can bring some replayability to the game, but the sensation after completing it is that it could have gone much farther if its developers had tried a little harder in some aspects.

The game may not do too much more than tick the boxes of what one expects of a platformer, and stumbles a few times on level design and coherence, but the wrapping of the game is a masterfully neat bow that will really help to draw in an audience.

It doesn't last long, but it's very enjoyable and intense. A good and addictive platformer that works great on the Switch.

If you’re looking for a solid platformer, you may find Shu to be your remedy. While it never really shakes up the genre, it ticks all the boxes that platformer fans enjoy. Shu’s main campaign doesn’t last very long, just a handful of hours, but it’s designed so that players will want to continue playing to find every collectible and improve their timing. If you’re the kind of player that likes that sort of challenge, Shu may just be for you.

Shu is an elegant, attractive and thoughtful 2D platformer that strips away a lot of the excess of its genre rivals. It's still not ripping up any rulebooks or reinventing the wheel, and it's far from the best platformer on the eShop. If you're after a more sedate alternative to Sonic Mania and company, however, it's an enjoyable way to spend a few hours.

Shu is nice, but it is overshadowed by the many other 2D platformers on Switch.

There are times where you’ll love the flow of the levels and the tension of the darkness chases, but sometimes those moments will be clouded by the horrors of the frustrating level design and unnecessarily brutal difficulty.

Shu is an okay platformer with a pretty facade. You jump, do a few interesting moves and that’s about it. With little compulsion to obsess over collectibles and skills that are given then taken away, Shu feels like a handful of decent ideas without a meaningful vessel to contain them.

Shu is a game plagued by its own potential. With tight platforming and shifting abilities, this bite sized game could have been a real treat. Instead, you find yourself constantly bogged down in small frustrations and game breaking crashes. I like the game Shu is trying to be, but not the game it is.

A basic platformer with the same old clichéd mobility tools and a pretty underwhelming world to be a part of just isn’t enough to make its mark these days, making Shu feel a little played out. It’s by no means a bad game, but hardly a good one either; it falls quite neatly into the comfortable, average middle-ground.

Shu is a game with a simple but strong core. Unfortunately the extra features often don't do anything or don't work properly. Although the game looks great, its story is very short and the controls suffer from some frustrating bugs. Your money could be better spent on other games.

Sometimes it's a little bit confusing to understand what is just the background and what can really kill you. Some levels are too easy, some of them are too hard and unfair, especially the last level, when you have to rely on luck instead of ability to progress, which shows that there are some problems in level design.
