Oct 24, 2024Shin-chan: Shiro and the Coal Town takes what made the previous Shin-chan game good and adds a twist of intrigue that is much stronger than the latter's plot. There is a lot of fun to be had in Shin-chan's new adventure in Coal Town and a good relaxing holiday story to boot. The dedication to matching the visual and writing style of the Shin-chan universe makes this a joy to experience and a fantastic pickup for those who pine for summer during the cold seasons! It's a satisfying little adventure story with a ton of very odd humour and a really unique design.

Oct 24, 2024Light-hearted as the flight of a butterfly, refreshing as water raised by the dart of a fish and relaxing as a sunny summer afternoon. Shiro and the Coal Town is an old-fashioned title that requires no special skills, but if played with the right spirit can awaken sweet emotions, welcoming you into a typically Japanese rural atmosphere.

Oct 23, 2024To be honest, I wasn't really sure what I was going to get with Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town. However, at the conclusion of my playthrough and this review, I can truthfully say that I had a wonderful time playing this game. All the boxes were ticked: story, characters, setting, gameplay, play time, beautiful scenery, soundtrack, and sound effects. There are a few minor gripes, such as the day and night cycle affecting how much time you have each day to get stuff done, but to be honest, this just added to the challenge of the game and made me plan my in-game day, rather than be a huge pain to deal with. When all is said and done, this was a very well put-together game. I look forward to seeing more adventures with Shin chan and co!

Oct 23, 2024Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town is a charming little adventure that brings back childhood memories of carefree summer holidays. The beautifully drawn landscapes paired with the classic Shin chan humour is bound to put a smile on your face no matter what.

Sep 24, 2025Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town is a fun, wholesome game that does a great job as a sequel to yet another fun, wholesome game. With its fun errands and activities, a gorgeous visual world and a great cast of characters, Shiro and the Coal Town might not captivate an entirely new audience but it is a marvelous adventure full of lovely and funny moments that fans of the previous game will most certainly embrace.

Oct 27, 2024Shin-chan: Shiro and the Coal Town is a slow life simulation game paired with an engaging adventure involving the mysterious Coal Town. It’s a really relaxed and pleasant play, as a result. You can take your time with it and enjoy the ambiance. The only thing that might get in the way of some people’s appreciation or enjoyment of the experience is the presence of Shin-chan himself, as not everyone might appreciate his humor or the series’ character design. Still, even if you are apprehensive, it’s a soothing way to savor the last bits of summer before easing into winter.

Oct 23, 2024Just like the first game, Shiro and the Coal Town highlights the joy in ordinary tasks like collecting bugs and getting to know your neighbours, but with its stronger cast of characters, array of side quests to complete, and well-developed trolley racing minigame, it has a lot more to offer and is a significant improvement on Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation.

Oct 23, 2024But let me be clear: Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town is a great experience that has me fully invested in Millennium Kitchen’s flavor of adventure games. Between a well told slice-of-life narrative, an improved structure, a super fun minecart racing mode and some really pretty art, this is a top tier adventure game for anyone hungry for some weapons-grade nostalgia.

Oct 23, 2024Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town is a stunningly beautiful game balanced by its fair share of weird humour. While not mechanically complex, it’s a charming slice-of-life game that will likely delight any fans of the Crayon Shin-Chan series.

Oct 24, 2024Shin Chan: Shiro and the Coal Town is an easy recommendation for any fan of Shin chan, as well as for those looking for a relaxing experience while exploring a beautiful place through the eyes of a 5-year-old boy with a lot of imagination. The game looks great and lets you engage in various farming tasks, collect all kinds of insects, fish, and minerals you come across, and enjoy some excitement in curious races. The best part is that the signature humor of the series is present at every moment.

Oct 23, 2024Shin Chan: Shiro and the Coal Town is a video game with gooey, overly saturated, yet charming environments. The brightness resonates strongly in the summery art that will take you to another world (in more ways than one). Although it may seem more of the same within the genre, the distinctly Japanese items (fish, food, plants, and animals) add a special touch. Its mechanics will keep you engaged for hours without you even realizing it. It's an excellent video game to forget about everything and simultaneously experience summer!

Oct 23, 2024Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town is an adventure with childlike tones and a deliberately monotonous pace that aims to recreate the carefree atmosphere that many associate with their childhood summers. Undoubtedly designed for a very young audience, it forgoes some of the original work's strengths to package an aesthetically enchanting adventure, but perhaps a little too poor in terms of gameplay.

Oct 24, 2024Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town brings the mischievous charm of the beloved 5-year-old protagonist to life in a cozy adventure. Faithfully capturing Shin chan's witty personality, the game invites both fans and newcomers to explore a beautifully presented world filled with vibrant cel-shaded graphics and immersive voice acting. While the intriguing storyline and stellar presentation make it feel like stepping into an animated series, the repetitive fetch quests and limited gameplay variety may leave some players wanting more. It's a delightful journey for younger gamers but falls a bit short in delivering the depth expected from the cozy genre.
-
Oct 23, 2024I honestly think Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town greatly benefits from its new location, adding a unique charm that sets it apart from its predecessors with a charming story that’s personal and melancholic. It still has its issues with overly simplistic gameplay, which could use an extra bit of spice to keep it from dragging, but this game is a definitive and polished way of experiencing Shin chan’s adventures in video game format.

Oct 23, 2024Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town offers a fun and colorful adventure, perfect for fans of farming sims without too much depth. The short day-night cycle can be frustrating, but exploration is a delight, even though the series' signature crude humor is absent.
