There aren't a lot of card games on the Switch, and even fewer in which you have to breed sheep; Shephy succeeds in being the best the Switch has to offer on both fronts. It's easy to pick up, fun to play, and more strategic than you'd expect for a sheep-based solitaire. While the translation efforts leave something to be desired, it's good enough to get the gist of what's going on, and there's very little standing in the way of just how fantastic this game can be.

A strange yet endearing tale of sheep traveling through parallel universes is an unexpected treat. Whilst the theme doesn’t dominate play, its inclusion brings enough gravitas to make every move count. Though the absence of multiplayer and optional touch controls is questionable, the price paid is nothing to squawk at due to a well-thought out single player experience that is potentially endless. Shephy is delightfully addictive, with a dark undertone that shares some realism with society’s treatment of sheep. Above all Shephy teaches you that “if you leave one wolf alive, the sheep are never safe…”

Shephy has a lot of promise, but ultimately lets itself down by unbalanced decks and somewhat messy rules.

Shephy is mechanically sound and intrinsically fun, but it’s also a harrowing experience if you think about it hard enough. I can’t tell if Pawn intended the game to be darkly humorous or outright desolate, but either way the grim story both tempered my enjoyment and drove me to play more. It’s an emotion that I’ve rarely experienced from a game, and that itself lends Shephy merit beyond the extent that the randomisation within the game actually hurts it.

Shephy is a goofy, short, single-player card game that is quite entertaining for its genre. It doesn’t stand out graphically nor musically, but may be a cheap option to spend your time with.

The music is repetitive and worse than what you'd hear on an elevator, and the randomness of the difficulty just isn't fun, at all. You could even say it's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

Cute design and simplistic gameplay get lost behind flawed design. Imagine having to play Solitaire not only with 50 cards, but also having to discard suit-specifically. I just don't see the fun in it and once you do figure out the extremely complicated and narrow design of discarding that allows you to will, you won't care, cause you already lost the other 99% of the time.

This is a $1 at best.
