I may alter this review because I haven't played for long but the problem lies right there. I don't want to play it for long.

So far we have really grim graphics. It's out right unpleasant to look at. Pretty average songs but repetitive and sounds like general midi. Next the gameplay - oh dear. Bump enemies, almost no avoiding them, mash A button, within one second you often get bumped

So far we have really grim graphics. It's out right unpleasant to look at. Pretty average songs but repetitive and sounds like general midi. Next the gameplay - oh dear. Bump enemies, almost no avoiding them, mash A button, within one second you often get bumped again. I got bumped so much and mashed A so much, I got bored. I turned off and went back to it and then forgot half of the area and had to rebump tens of enemies to get my bearings again. I never like Square Enix games and it is because they are always full of gloomy back drops and crap gameplay, with annoying characters. If I had noticed that this was Squenix, I wouldn't have bought it. They throw out any old **** and people buy it by the bucket load. This is the same price as Ara Fell, which is by a tiny company, of around 6 people and Ara Fell just ****s all over this junk. Not to mention the music in Ara Fell smashing this too. Saga frontier just pales against Ara Fell and to be honest I get 20 minutes in to my go and just think, what a load of bollocks, should have just replayed Ara Fell. This **** just doesn't hold up in this day in age and I'm an 80's gamer. It is just poor.

Like I say the score may alter but I'm not sure I'll play it again for that to happen. £15 down the ****ter.

Too many good games out there to waste my life on this.

When SaGa Frontier was first released in 1997, it was not magnificent, but it was memorable for its interesting attempts to do many things differently than the time-honored jRPG tradition demanded. When I played the remaster, I was pleasantly surprised how well the game stood the test of time. I wouldn’t call it an essential title every jRPG fan must play, but it is charmingly unpretentious and I enjoyed my time with it. [07/2021, p.42]

As far as remasters go, SaGa Frontier is an automatic recommendation for anyone who appreciated the original, as Square’s work on this new edition adds some quality-of-life improvements and upgraded graphics. Unfortunately, it’s a different story for newcomers expecting a more traditional sort of JRPG. Even so, Square’s original vision still stands apart from other RPGs of the time and this quality remains true in this remaster — for better or worse, the player will be experiencing a unique experience.

SaGa Frontier Remastered is a classic RPG with good stories, a combat system with many possibilities and a great soundtrack that may be a bit rough for the newest players but will delight the most veteran.
