Its difficult to separate my love for 2000 AD from this game, but I'll try. Its a pretty standard 3rd-person shooter. Fun enough, but nothing special - UNLESS yoo happen to be a fan of the comics, in which case its pretty good. So while I'm giving it an 8/10 for 2000 AD fans, its probably only a 7/10 for everyone else.

I don't think that this is a bad game. however it does feel it's age. I had some issues with aiming. When I was in a position to aim forward, sometimes the HUD will not make the character transparent (as it does lost of the times) and you will only see his back and unable to see the enemies.
I am not much a guy for stories so I didn't pay much attention here. It seemed kind of generic, but

Great game with a few issues that hold it back a little.

Gameplay Combat is visceral. Great weapon variety. Multiple ways to approach firefights. Cover system can be stupid sometimes, although with my style of play I really didn't face much difficulties, even on the hardest difficulty. Pistol is OP as hell, but I would rather have that than fight bullet sponge enemies for 15

Cover system can be stupid sometimes, although with my style of play I really didn't face much difficulties, even on the hardest difficulty.

Pistol is OP as hell, but I would rather have that than fight bullet sponge enemies for 15 minutes straight just because I ran of of powerful ammo. A bit unbelievable, but trust me when I say the gameplay would be way worse with a weak pistol. Additionally, using your pistol often helps you accumulate a LOT of salvage used for your ammo, medkits and equipment upgrades, so practice your aiming. LOOT DAT CORPSE, EXPLORE DAT ENVIRONMENT!!! You will be virtually drowning in salvage if you do so, and you will make the game easier on yourself in the later levels :)

Some sections of the game will be too difficult for the average player, I wouldn't be surprised if someone rage quit. The turret sections, especially the train section, were annoying. I managed to get through these after a few tries, but for some it will take hours without a doubt.

Some people were complaining about the repetitiveness of the game. But you know what else is repetitive? Pretty much every other game on the planet. What matters is the fun you can have by approaching the game differently, and this game has more variety in its gameplay than some AAA games released in the last 3 years. It is fun to play, despite it's aged looks and occasionally wonky cover system, and in my opinion, a worthy addition to the Switch's library.

    Graphics

This is a PS2 game, and it is a remaster, not a remake. Obviously it looks very bland in comparison to current titles. Not too bad looking on the switch screen though, but it's no Mario Odyssey in the aesthetics department.

    Story

Cheesy as hell, but can be followed easily. I would rather have this than one that tries to take itself seriously while also being based on a freakin' comic book. These guys are blue soldiers for crying out loud, there is no need for Oscar-bait writing here!! Story is fine for this type of game. Other than the disjointed pre-rendered cutscene transitions between gameplay, this story is nowhere near as bad as folks say, considering this game is over a decade old and based on a comic book...

    Online pay

A garbage mode, I have no confidence that will keep your attention for long. I assumed it was campaign co-op, but no. Look elsewhere for online fun in a video game

    Conclusion

Highly recommended, considering the price AND portability factor. If you ask me, the Switch version presents the greatest value here, even though it runs at 30fps as opposed to 60fps on other systems. On any other platform, probably just wait for a sale if you are patient enough. Just don't go in expecting a Gears of War level of polish, and you should be fine

I am tempted to try this seen as there not too many shooters on the switch yet it could have filled the gap.

But this is a redux of a old ps2 game and feel 19.99 is a silly price tag. Wouldn’t pay more than 10 for this tbh

Based on their inability to find a suitable price point I hold no hopes out for a good game here.

Eating for JYDGE instead reasonable prise for a modern game

Rogue Troop Redux is a remake of an Xbox and ps2 game Rogue Trooper from 2006
And while there are some good part of this 3rd person shooter…
Even considering its initial release... this shooter feels dated…
Rogue Trooper Redux contains a 6 hour long story mode and a cooperative online mode where you’re either choosing your loadout and doing a co-op mission or a defense mission with ammo around the map instead of crafted like in story…
Online is a pretty mediocre experience and pretty dead even on launch day.. Thankfully you’re not missing much...
The better part of this game Is easily its story mode where you play as Rogue, a genetically engineered soldier designed to fight in a war on this now toxic planet
The idea of this game is a decently cool one..
You have 2 soldiers attached to you in the form of chips that will talk to you and make the occasionally joke while you play through this games campaign, really giving the game some personality... but more importantly... they bring life to your equipment as one is attached to your gun and the other to your helmet…
The helmet is used to hack doors..
And your other chip does basically everything else... you can use them to create a hologram to distract enemies and snipe them out, or you can set down an infinite turret to distract enemies and actually kill them while you do some hacking…
Really making the gameplay of this otherwise bland game feel alive and varied
And you can craft new guns as they become available as you progress the story…
This game is highly focused on crafting.. Though the crafting here is very light...
Basically instead of ammo enemies will drop salvage…
Salvage is what’s used to craft everything in the game from med packs, to ammo, weapons, and grenades… you get bonus salvage if you take enemies out stealthily.. Though good luck as their detection is ridiculous... and there are piles hidden around the map…
if you’re running low on ammo you can spend a large amount refilling your clips or you can just swap weapons, and if all run out because you’re saving for a new upgrade, you can just switch to your pistol which has infinite ammo…
though weapon switching in this game is painfully slow and this slow swapping can make some moments feel frustrating as you feel stuck in a death cycle trying to get your favorite weapon back out…
    speaking of slow..
This entire game feels sluggish and clunky...
and at times feel unresponsive when throwing grenades or using a medpack...
leading to frustrating deaths in the heat of battle…
And there a lot of them…
As this game will throw annoying heat seeking bombs and turrets into the mix that can only be taken out with sniper rifles.. or finding a way to sneak behind
The level design here is pretty uninspired, aside from one level I enjoyed towards the middle…
it’s a lot of getting from point a to point b with the occasional climbing and the constant shooting in areas that hardly look different from one another…
The scenery gets old fast, occasionally interrupted with some on rails shooting….
Rogue Trooper isn’t really an interesting game…
It’s the very definition of just okay...
There’s weapon variety, but the game leaves the overall gameplay variety up to the player...
if you don’t actively think outside of the box this is a just a very dull third person shooter with unresponsive controls that feel from the stone age
    I give Rogue Trooper Redux
    a 6/10

Rogue Trooper Redux doesn't fit the Switch. The gameplay is dated and boring. It's not very playable in handheld mode.

Rogue Trooper Redux is for those with a distinct taste. I can't deny the problems found in its cover mechanics, and the visual upgrade isn't that grand. That being said, the hectic 13 missions remain a fun romp to get through. The campy story and amount of upgrades only elevate what the developers tried to pull off. Rogue Trooper requires a more aggressive gameplay style than I remember, but I can't really say that I'm bothered by it.

The Wii version of Rogue Trooper had much better controls, the graphics fit the animations and is still the best way to play out the Quartz Zone Massacre. Rogue Trooper Redux on Switch is an unpolished mess with technical issues and looks horrible docked and in portable mode. The new model's rigs cause extensive clipping and makes character anatomy do all sorts bizarre contortions and twists that are just painful to look at. The limits of old hardware made the developers be creative with their modelling and consider more carefully how they would be rigged. All of that is thrown out the window in favour of technical advancements... not artistic advancements. While it is playable, expect a very sloppy version of what was already a run of the mill third-person shooter.
