A lot of 2D shooters lean on being cool with over-the-top visuals and millions of bullets on-screen, but Rogue Aces instead goes for a lighter tone and places the emphasis squarely on the oldest, most reliable thing in the video game industry: perfect play control. Throw in a ton of different modes, including an Arcade mode, and players will be coming back to Rogue Aces for some time.

Rogue Aces is an excellent little game that works incredibly well however way you play it. The quick, convenient menu system ensures you snap right back into the action for some sweet on the go gaming. I would love to see a split-screen multiplayer added at some point as it’s clearly begging for it, but as a solid, satisfying solo-focused shooter that’s only 123MB in size, it is a Nintendo Switch necessity that will barely make a dent in your storage.

Rogue Aces is a stellar, fresh experience - even more so if you never played spiritual forerunner Wings of Fury - that has landed on the Switch eShop seemingly out of nowhere.

Rogue Aces is the best Arcade game I've played this year. It's a creative game and very well animated, with graphics that resemble Metal Slug and sound effects almost perfect highlight this. Several options for game modes make the replay factor increase a lot. It is highly recommended for those who like aerial battles or even for those who have that free time at lunch, because Rogue Aces is a game to play for pleasure without worrying about its end, an authentic Arcade.

I have to say that I have had a lot of fun with Rogue Aces. It’s not the kind of game where you will be playing it for hours at a time, though you could and may start that way. It’s the perfect game to take out and about with you and have a 5-10 minute blast on. It can get a little repetitive but in short bursts and playing across the various modes this is a cracking little game to have in your library.

Rogue Aces is an absolute treat. The gameplay is addicting, the visuals have a surprisingly deep level of detail to them, the controls are solid and fully customizable, and there are enough game modes to keep things interesting.

Meshing together the repeat play appeal of the Roguelike game category with a fun light-hearted take on airborne dogfight warfare, Rogue Aces is a joy to play and comes packed with a great deal of content. Newcomers to the genre will find some turbulence in adapting, and the multiplayer potential of the game's setup both online and off isn't realised at all. But for pure arcade fighter jet action on Switch, few games are more enjoyable.

Behind what looks like a simplistic design, there's a game much more complex than you would think. Fun and addictive, it's a game that's worth a try.

If roguelike elements are continuing to be the hot independent gaming trend, I’ll tend toward games that make the process more fun. Rogue Aces does a fine job of balancing randomness and giving agency over the flights, and it definitely doesn’t deserve to be buried by the wave of eShop releases every week.

There’s little doubt about it, Rogue Aces is a very enjoyable game, and one of the best and most entertaining Switch games within its price range. Controls are hard to master to begin with, and impatient gamers will need to be more lenient with this game and give it time. If you do allow it time, then Rogue Aces rewards you with high-octane thrills and spills from start to finish.

There are some nice moments in Rogue Aces, but in the end it's too repetitive for its own good.

this game is very challenging a fun pick up and play action game putting it down again is difficult in itself.....but what about the gameplaythis game is very challenging a fun pick up and play action game putting it down again is difficult in itself.....but what about the gameplay well to be honest here on the internet
nothing is done more with humour and panache than this little game
its sound design unlockables and missions that are endless and blowing everything up without dying
which is tough later on are a lot of fun
the flying is clunky to begin with then its 2nd nature and it just draws you in and I have to say its great...the buffs help and are welcome...
tested the game with my kids and they agree its a fun game
replay value is there with missions and campaign mode being a highlight if you like flying a plane dropping bombs and destroying everything that moves this is your game....

I bought it for about $3 but honestly it is worth more. The gameplay is just so much fun. I love the different modes, too. It is definitely a "pick up and play" type of game but it is also a "just one more try" type of game. The voice acting is funny and not annoying, and I am looking forward to playing through this. It is also very challenging. Full Review »
