Rise of the Slime ticks all the boxes of a bad game. Not only is it a roguelike that crashes regularly to ruin your run, but the game has little explanation of basic mechanics, too much variety in the deckbuilding for consistency, little meaningful longevity, and a poorly considered port to Switch. If you’re desperate to play it, get the PC release, but do yourself a favour and save your cash for your next run at a deckbuilder.

When fighting and killing especially a tough character, the game crashes and you go to the start of the battle.
They should either fix the bug or make the save games within the battle. There could be an option to allow autosaves within battles (easier mode) or not. I really like the game but won't play again unless there is an update.

Buoyed by highly-successful titles like Slay the Spire and some others there have been a number of exceptional titles in the space on the Switch. Now we have Rise of the Slime to add to the list of titles in the genre, and while it does a reasonably good job of putting together strategy with choices of consequence it also struggles to make its mark among its brethren. A slightly lower price and a polished cohesive look do help its case, but if you're looking for the top dogs in this genre this is more of a middle of the pack entry.
