This was one of the most enjoyable games when it first came out during the PS360 generation, and Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered is proof that this is still the case for this generation.

Overall, Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered, feels like a unique addition to the Nintendo Switch library, and one executed well. That said, if destruction isn’t your playstyle, this may not be the game for you. But if you are into any action or open-world games, I’d highly suggest taking a look at this port. Though, from what I’ve seen, this game doesn’t add anything new from its original release. So, it may not be worth the playthrough for someone familiar with the title already.

Overall, I would say that the Nintendo Switch is the perfect way to experience Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered, whether you have played the game before or not. The game runs seemingly at a solid 30fps with minimal drops, and sometimes even seems to be smoother than most other games I have experienced on the system. It might not be as beautiful as the PS4 and Xbox One counterparts, but looks amazing nonetheless. The pick-up-and-play hybrid console, blended with the chaotic and extremely fun gameplay of Guerrilla, is a perfect match, topped off with motion controls. It's certainly a well-done remaster of a brilliant game and is definitely one that most people should pick up.

Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered makes it just as addictive to cause destruction as it originally did 10 years ago. While few downgrades have been made to get it on Switch, it’s a solid addition to the console’s library of third-persona action games.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of witnessing Guerrilla in motion for your own eyes, do yourself a favour and pick this one up – it’s still some of the most enjoyably catastrophic experiences gaming has to offer.

THQ Nordic has been doing a great job with Switch ports, and Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered feels like a perfect fit for the Switch: a fun action game in your pocket with completely destructible environment, a variety of gameplay modes, and solid technical performance.

The Switch version of Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered runs (somewhat surprisingly) as well as the console version, and looks almost as good doing it.

Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered premieres in Change with success with a proposal of action and destruction that overcomes the passage of time.

The game is amazing from all stand-points, from the story to the mechanics and visuals, and I have to say that I was pleased that the Re-Mars-tered version did actually feel like a significant improvement, even if it was just a re-release of the same game with better visuals slapped on to it. All in all, Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered is a game I would definitely recommend to anyone, especially if they think too much time has passed since the last Red faction game release.

One decade later, RFG is still one of the best games in terms of destructible environments, a very gratifying feature that the remastered edition retains... as it does with its shortcomings, like a relatively empty map to repetitive missions or the graphics, that look outdated in some areas like character models.

With no extra content, no Switch-specific controls or features and little to offer those who missed it first time round, Red Faction: Guerilla Re-MARS-tered (sorry, that’s the actual title) has little reason to really be. I’d recommend it to you if you like blowing stuff up and shooting things, as it’s still a very playable and cathartic adventure even if the busy work gets a bit much, but I wouldn’t go into expecting any kind of revolution.

Red Faction: Guerrilla‘s formula of a traditional open-world title with destructible environments is refreshingly simple even 10 years later. However, the Switch port is far from the ideal way to experience Red Faction: Guerrilla. The performance of the port leaves a great deal to be desired and the shooting mechanics were not tweaked for Nintendo’s smaller controllers. Yet, blowing stuff up is still just as fun as the pun in the title of this remaster. So if you’re looking for a portable sandbox open-world title for the handheld, then Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-Tered is one of the most enjoyable you can purchase on the console.

Despite an optimization that works only half the time, Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered has managed to entertain us like never before, even ten years after its first debut. If you have never stepped on Red Faction's martian soil, this Switch porting represents a great opportunity to make up for it.

Guerrilla has aged quite well overall, although some aspects are definitely a little bit outdated. It isn’t a must have, but it does have some impressive moments and there’s a lot of fun to be had.

In addition to the framerate issues non-existent in its PS4- or One-siblings and the non-optimized controls, some probably well meant gameplay additions backfire, making this the least desirable entry in the Re-Mars-tered versions.

Red Faction: Guerrilla is still the wacky, high octane dose of fun that I remember sinking many hours into last-gen, and the Switch version (mostly) plays to its strengths.

The well-designed sandbox world, along with its destruction physics and game modes make this a thoroughly enjoyable and fun game for anyone, while some occasional sight control problems can make the experience occasionally problematic but Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-Tered is not any less of a good game because of that.

As ports go, Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered on Switch is a good one. But it’s a game that’s starting to show its age now, and while it’s great to be able to play it on the go, the Switch is not the best way to play it on a big screen.

If you didn’t play the original game, Red Faction Guerilla Re-Mars-Tered is a legit purchase. It’s working pretty well and you’ll have a good fun. But it feels outdated when compared to all the current big open-world shooters.

It’s crazy to think that the original Red Faction Guerrilla came out 10 years ago, especially when you consider no one has matched it for sheer destructive agency. As an open-world third-person shooter, Red Faction Guerrilla: Re-Mars-tered doesn’t do much to set itself apart from the pack, but its unscripted destruction physics help elevate even the most boring of missions into a riot as you smash walls to reach an objective or use a rocket launcher to crumble enemy vehicles. With extra DLC bundled in and some decent Switch exclusive motion controls, Red Faction Guerrilla is another forgotten shooter that deserves a second (or third) shot at stardom.

There's nothing new to say about Guerrilla that hasn't been said before - its gameplay is solid and enjoyable enough to hold up its shortcomings in the story and graphics departments. They just don't make games like this anymore, and perhaps with good reason. Nevertheless, this is a robust cult classic that houses some thrills up its sleeve. It's intriguing that Red Faction has even made a reappearance… Is THQ Nordic gauging interest for a sequel, perhaps?

Red Faction: Guerilla is a curious game to remaster, besides THQ making the most of rereleasing their catalogue. There’s a lot of destructive fun to be had, but it’s often lost amongst boring driving and frustrating combat. If you still have a soft spot for Red Faction then this is very much the same game, warts and all.

A great time if you don’t care about the story and you just want to mess around in an open-world destroying everything in sight. It can feel a little tedious after a while, but the immensely impressive destructibility for just about everything will keep you engaged to the end.

Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered is a bunch of fun for first -timers, but those who have taken the trip before wont find many reasons to make a return. The Switch struggles to keep up with the most intense destruction and ends up feeling more like a port of the original game.

On the Nintendo Switch, and particularly in handheld mode, it actually looks really nice in capturing that grim-Mars wasteland. Sadly, open worlds age far worse than most other approaches to game design, and while I can quite happily recommend HD remasters of JRPGs that originally appeared on PlayStation 3 - or even PS2 or PS1 - because it's the unique and timeless narratives that people play them for, open worlds lose their value rapidly.

It's a game that's constantly reminding you that it is a game released in 2009, with its dated single-player mode and boring missions. The upgraded particle effects help the game show the destruction on the Switch very well here, but 'Wrecking Crew' is where the game shines, and proves it is very much worth your purchase here. Incredibly fun, great for party-passing, and being able to play this mode on the go only makes me recommend 'Red Faction Guerrilla' even more.

Red Faction Guerrilla’s primary hook, its physics-based destruction, has aged remarkably well. It is still to this day incredibly fun to take out the support of a building and watch it tumble to the ground. Regrettably, the game that surrounds this mechanic is a shallow and repetitive misunderstanding of open-world design. Add to this the less than impressive performance levels of the Switch version and you’re left with a great idea that just doesn’t have the design to support it. Much like the result of its primary game mechanic, Red Faction Guerrilla crumbles without the support of more engaging gameplay to surround that mechanic.

One worth the AAA rating... ok, its not rating, but you understand me. After playing it for 30 minutes, I´m in love with it. The graphics are great, it seems, the story will be deep, you can use cars, destroy almost everything, nice choice of weapons. Upgrades, multiplayer. And again, the game looks absolutely great. The last great looking game was Assassins Creed, but this is far better!! Probably it looks better on a PS4, but I think its pushing the limits of the Switch to the edge! As I sad, only 30 minutes of play till now and I´m going back to the game when I finish this comment. There is so much more to test and do.
So I recommend this game. If you are willing to get a game and dont know which should you buy, this may be the one. And if it costs only 4 bucks more then the gooshysomething fighters... wow... Then this is really cheap (or the other is really expansive).
Anyway... check the video below if you would like to see how the game looks when you start it and play it for 30 minutes. I must end the comment here and I´m going back to play it...

I have loved this since it's initial release!! I wish all open-world games could have destruction physics as this game implements it so well. I remember spending hours and hours tearing down buildings support beams just to watch them crumble. Climbing up in a building and watching it crumble from above is so cool. Literally the destruction physics alone sell the game, even in our current gen era, (there are not enough of these games these days), and now we have a pretty solid port on the Switch.

I am giving this a 10 in order to further support good Switch ports and encourage more developers to bring their games to this platform!!

    A breakdown of how I would rate components of this game;

    Story: 6.5
    Graphics: 8.0
    Sound: 9.0
    Re-Playability: 10
    Controls: 8.0

Total Score for the Switch Port: 8.0

It gives you a bunch of cool weapons and vehicles like mech suits and tanks and encourages you to have some cathartic fun.

There's not much more to it than the core gameplay of destruction - there is a story but it's pretty thin and exists only to give you a reason to blow stuff up. There's also a fair bit of driving, but it's far from the most fun the game can offer.

The game works best when you're destroying every building you can see, and thankfully there is a lot of that. Unfortunately, constant destruction does lose its initial 'how cool is this?!' feeling after a while, and the shooting mechanics are decent but nothing exciting. On the plus side, Red Faction is short enough that it ends before you feel fatigued by it all.

The port itself seems solid to me apart from a few frame rate drops when there's a lot going on plus the noticeable pop-in of terrain. It's not the prettiest game either, with bland environments and a very limited colour palette, but given that it's set on a recently terraformed Mars, it's somewhat forgiveable.

Red Faction is good for some mindless fun, but apart from it's interesting physics engine that makes the destruction satisfying, it's a little forgettable on the whole. However, given that you know what you're in for - a fun but unremarkable excuse to destroy, destroy, destroy - I'd recommend it. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but overall, it's a decent game, if nothing special.
